The hotel is in such a great location and a grand old hotel, making this a great spot for a stay. Staff are amazing, rooms are clean and well-furnished. Facilities are also what I look for, with a bar, restaurant and a well-known brunch spot. I would definitely stay again.

Overall a comfortable 2 night visit at the Clayton. This is undoubtedly a beautiful hotel in a great location.Rooms were spacious and clean. Booked room only, however we decided to pay for breakfast at the last minute on our first morning. The cost was 29 euros each, but if we had paid upon check in, it would have been 20 euros. We were not made aware of this during check in, which was disappointing. Also, when we checked out of the Clayton, we decided to go into the restaurant for a coffee and snack whilst we waited for the Airport transfer, but we were refused entry, as we hadn’t made a reservation. Again disappointing.

WOW- where do you start,the hotel is outstanding in every way,we had a deluxe balcony room( free upgrade) room was massive,great shower and AC/Heat worked a treat,the staff at the hotel can’t do enough for you,buffet breakfast was brilliant- great choice of hot and cold food .We are so glad we picked this hotel and when we return to Amsterdam in the future then this will be the hotel that we booked,if you are coming to Amsterdam you can’t go wrong with this hotel,also the area is full of bars and restaurants and the trams are a must . One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in .

My biggest and only compliant is that I added a two course dinner for 12/10. I checked with the hotel prior to the dinner and right at the end of the dinner to see how to pay for the meal. Since it states on the email that it'll be charged to our room. (Which is my credit card). I wanted to treat my mom to your guys amazing restaurant. And received the same answer from both parties. The next day 12/11 we went to our room after a long day of being out and exploring. The key wouldn't work at all, just showing red. My mom and I were both exhausted and so like any good mom she went downstairs to check to see what had happened. She was told that before we could regain entry to our room that the bill had to be paid. It was so embarrassing, even though i did nothing wrong. We were literally locked out of our room for something I double checked multiple times on. Mind you I surprised my mom with the gift of going to the restaurant as well. The restaurant was the fanciest places we've ever eaten at. And it was amazing, and if the bill needed to be paid I would've paid it, instead of being completely locked out of our room.

We contacted reception as there was extremely loud music playing from somewhere. The staff came to our room with ear plugs and said there was a function in one of their rooms until midnight but they would try to get the music turned down. This did not happen. The same happened the second night. I had made staff aware I was pregnant but they stated we had ear plugs provided. I also made staff aware of the noise when checking out but they did not comment. Also we paid for a delux room. The room itself was nice but our view was air conditioning units so I do not understand how they can state it was a deluxe room.

This is will definitely be our go to hotel when visiting Amsterdam. I can’t rave enough about how great we were treated by the staff. The bartender ( I forgot her name but she has blonde hair and seems to be the head bartender) made us feel like family and it felt like we were leaving family by the time we left. The very sweet man who usually does the check ins for breakfast ( he usually always has a suit on) made my day every morning we were greeted by his smiling face.

The Clayton was a great hotel for a trip with my daughter. Unlike other hotels I looked into, they were able to guarantee us a room with 2 twin beds. The location is so convenient with Trams right outside but also an easy walk to all the key sites. We opted for buffet breakfast that had many options and restaurant is beautiful. Gym is well equipped. All the staff are very helpful. Overall, really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

The Clayton Hotel (now the American Hotel) is a lovely landmark hotel in a wonderful location. The staff were professional. Our canal side room was a lovely mix of old world elegance and modern convenience. Floor to ceiling casement window let in the crisp Amsterdam air while providing a very romantic ambiance. The bed was heavenly with quality linens. The bar and restaurant are right out of a European movie set and the location is perfect for museum goers or those looking for the gay nightlife scene.
