Good stay with some caveats.

No air conditioning but fine on all but the hottest days. Steep stairs, no elevator for floors 1&2. Otherwise our room was clean but sheets and towels in other family room were not. Stained despite washed. Courteous and helpful staff were not always available (eg. at 6:30 one weekday evening, or late night). Excellent location, comfortable sleep.

-Property overcharges on city tax. Didn't provide a receipt and when asked for a refund, only gave back half of what they owed us.
-Woke up with bug bites on our bodies and blood stains on the sheets. Very stressful experience because we had to carefully check our luggages and clothes to make sure we weren't bringing bed bugs home.
-Property feels more like an upscale hostel. Way too expensive for what you're getting.
-The bathroom is the size of a small shoe closet. Barely any room to move around. There was no counter space and the sink is the size of a football. Impossible to wash your face without water spilling all over the floor. When you take a shower, water leaks out onto the tile floor creating a huge and slippery mess. The water only goes up to a certain temperature and pressure isn't strong enough.
-Poor wifi connection
-No air conditioning so it gets really hot in the room. Had to sleep with the windows open and could hear people talking and shouting outside. If your room is facing the front of the building, the smell of cigarettes wafts into your room when windows are open.
-Walls are paper thin so we heard doors opening and banging shut all night.
-No cable TV.
-Stairs are extremely steep.
-It's a 10 min walk to get to the nearest tram stop.
-No staff at reception from around midnight to 7am.

The property was nice, we actually liked the very steep stairs, but having the small elevator was nice to bring our bags up. The room was clean and on the last day when the weather turned warm, you can ask the front desk for the A/C remote.

I took off one star because the last day we found two bed bugs. We checked all the bedding (and all our clothes and everything) and didn't find anymore so it was curious, but the fact that we found two... One adult one and one smaller one was concerning

We were staying for 8 nights and they put 2 of us into a room so small we had nowhere to store clothes or our bags, and only one person could move around at a time. To be fair, it appeared they had larger rooms but I can’t fathom why they didn’t put us in one. It seems to be family run, which I was happy about - but one of the men treated it like a motel - where they charge a deposit for everything, and they charge for lost room keys. There were no amenities, other than a nice garden area - but since there was no breakfast in the building it kinda killed using the garden. Everything is old, but they are doing a nice job keeping it alive. We tried to switch rooms but they couldn’t accommodate and wouldn’t let us switch hotels through Expedia. This will be my last time using Expedia because they aren’t useful either. Really miss having travel agents.

The room was good with a bed, sofa bed and kitchenette. However, no direct elevator to the room. Our room was on third floor. The elevator was to the fourth floor and you had to climb stairs down on extremely steep stairs with luggage. So if you have kids and luggage, you should consider other options. Also, no phone in the room to call reception. Other than that the staff was friendly.

The stairs are very steep so had to take care with that.

Well located for Vondelpark and the museums.
Dining options within walking distance too.

The place is very accessible to public transportation and is still in the middle of Amsterdam. The place is clean, staff is friendly and accommodating. The area is close to some tourist attractions and is accessible to other places of interest within the area. I will recommend this place to those who travel light since they do not have the lift or elevator in the property.

We enjoyed our stay, it definitely did the job. The decor is a bit odd, very much outdated. The bathroom was clean but the bedroom was heavily dusty around all edges. We booked a double bed but it was two twin beds pushed together, with no connector to keep them as one.

Location is VERY good, for walking and using the tram. Lovely area, very quiet and there is a lidl just around the corner (perfect for cheap morning pastries).

We had no troubles with noise or security. Beds were comfy and the temperature of the room was good. I think the location of the hotel makes up for what the room lacks. We didn't have breakfast there as it seemed expensive.

I originally stayed in room 39 - the bathroom smelled awful - smell coming through the drain - hotel explained that this happens to this room when it rains, and kindly offered to move me to room 38 instead - better room with better layout.

The Wifi in all rooms and in the lobby is horrendously slow, to the point where you can barely make a video call - drops every few minutes. At times, I could barely even edit a Google doc due to connectivity.

The stairs are very steep and very hard to bring suitcases up/down.

The location is great though - walking distance from many attractions - very centrally located.

Booked the same day and the hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. The location is great near the street trams and metro and 5-10 min walking distance to all the bars and restaurants. Greta for exploring city center and just off a canal. Rooms are clean and beds were comfy.

Hotel Jupiter was very nice, clean and close to the everything (red light district, all the museum's and the local attarctions), breakfast was good too but there is a local cafe if you would like yo try something local.
Definitely will recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! AGRESSIVE STAFF KICKED ME OUT OF MY ROOM AND PUSHED ME AGAINST THE WALL!!!
At my check in date I asked if I could extend my check out time and the guy at the reception said I could extend for 8 euros an hour. The next day, an indian guy aprox 40 years old banged on my door telling me to open the door. When I opened the door he started to get in my room super agressive kicking me out of my room “You have to leave now, go, leave, you cannot stay here anymore, your check out was 1 hour ago!”, when I tried to explain I was going to pay the 8 euros per hour like the reception guy told me he was being super rude getting inside my room with a vacuum not believing what I told him denying the guy at the reception told me that. WHY WOULD I LIE ABOUT IT?
When I told him I was paying for the room and he had to wait until I pack everything, he started to pull and throw all my stuff, make up, clothes, underwear, bags, everything out of the room! I started to scream him to stop and leave but he wouldnt stop and he had fire in his eyes... I started to record him like that, and when he saw my phone he came in my direction and ATTACKED ME, PUSHING ME AGAINST THE WALL AND GRABING MY HANDS AND ARMS! YES THE STAFF ATTACKED ME! There was also another man there, which was probably the cleaner, watching everything and he didnt do anything just told me to stop recording!
I am going to the police today and making a report! I am traumatised and this man ruined me.

Charged 4% extra for using a credit card which was not advertised in advance. No clothes hangars or anywhere to hang shirts in room. Door on toilet/bathroom missing! Impossible stairs for anyone with mobility issues - you may get up, but you won't get down! One plug socket in room - and that was four feet (over a metre) above the bed ! O, and €1.50 for a warm bottle of water.
This place is really poor value for money, even if the location is not so bad.

Location is good - close to the Hard Rock Cafe area. About a 30 min walk from Dam square. Buses and trams are close if you don’t want to walk. Property quite dated/traditional but had all we needed and was comfortable. VERY steep steps to the rooms but that’s just Amsterdam in general. Staff lovely and helpful.

Friendly staff but:
- No soundproofing between rooms. One can hear EVERYTHING from the rooms around.
- Very noisy guests (shouting and banging doors) 3 - 5 am every night for 3 nights.
- Room doors are super noisy when they close (related to previous point)
- No lift and the old stairs are unsafe and even dangerous.

The room set up was weird, we had to walk in through the bathroom, through another door and down a couple stairs to the bedroom. More than once I got stuck in the bedroom, because someone was in the bathroom. And the wifi really didn't work that well. But the room was clean, the staff was nice, and the location was nice.

This hotel is a little gem. Small and friendly on a lovely street. Opposite is a cute little restaurant. Our room was number 19 and it can be noisy because you are right by the front door, so when guests are returning you may hear them. We were on the ground floor with huge windows which opened out onto the street. It is a nice safe area. The shower room was small but very clean with a lovely shower. Breakfast was served in a lovely room with a glass ceiling which led out onto a small private garden, it consisted of scrambled eggs sausages beans and also continental was available and juices and yogurts. They also took care of our cases on our first day before check in and on our last day before our late flight home. I would stay again.You are a short stroll from boat rides and the tram. To walk to the main central station I would say under half an hour. You are near lots of cafes and places to eat and a supermarket.

My family were bitten all over by bed bugs and I found the hotel staff to be rude. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone because the management will not acknowledge the prescence of bedbugs. Disappointing overall.

OK Rooms are far smaller than they look on line. Now if you want Air conditioning in your room you have to pay extra to get the converter to turn it on, oh wait you mean you need a key for the safe thats already in your room oh that you have to pay extra for that as well, no matter you end up paying on top of your hotel fee plus city taxes be prepared .. If you want breakfast it is expensive for what it is, simple continental small buffet. go down the road (if you still want to go to this hotel) and onb the corner is a fabulous little cafe.

Good location Staff, read all material with care.

A very pleasant & well run typical Dutch Hotel, but read the Hotel description with care.

No elevator for floors 1 & 2, & steep typical Dutch stairs, so only for the nimble. Elevators for floors 3 & 4 BUT located on floor 2.

The Hotel is well managed & all instructions & Hotel matters are clearly explained.

It is a quiet location & a good breakfast is available in a very pleasant environment.

The first day we were arranged to stay at first floor, didn't know the lift access is only for 3rd or 4th floor so it was bad experience. However the hotel made a very great arrangement for us, got a 3rd floor room on the next day for us. I recommend to stay higher floor with room facing the backyard, it's little bit noisy if your room facing the main road. Overall it was good! Btw, there's no fan in the room. AC requires additional charge of €5/Night.

Not worth the price

I realize that Amsterdam is an expensive city and therefore I looked for a reasonably priced hotel. The neighborhood is fine, it is the Hotel that is a major disappointment.
The room I was given as a single traveler was about 6ft wide, not wide enough for my suitcase to be laid on the floor and walk past it. Frequently at different times of the day there was backed up sewage smell in the room coming from the bathroom.

The worst experience though was the interactions I had with the person who I assume is the owner. As a person of color, I felt treated with condescension and disdain. I was questioned about payment for the breakfasts. I had paid for three and I was told that \" my colleague told me that only payment for 2 was made\". After I said I had the receipt for it, he grudgingly acknowledged after checking that indeed I had paid for all three.
There was an annoyed tone for all responses. Simple questions about use of the automated coffee machine was replied with a tone of exasperation. I felt that I was watched while serving myself breakfast about how much i ate. Altogether a very unsettling experience.

everything was fine except i was charged a 4% free to use my credit card.
This free was not discosec at my time of Reservation. Otherwise, i would
have heget my bet and bought euros last year when the exchange rate was
10-12% l;wer. Please discuss this with Sanjay the manager. Everything else
was fine and so i did not want to gut into an Argument with your customer.
Thank you. Please not that i have reservations at Schumacher in Deisldorf
Germany on Tours and Frieda. I forwarded them a new credit caed number
as i was advised by Hotels.com that the Coups not take credit card info over
the phone. They said that i did not have a Reservation and that your numbers
were not valid. I ersehnt the info, advise i would send attachments later. how-
i am unable to. I have the copies with me. Can you please reverify that i am
booked with them on Tours 3/15/18 and Fri 3/16/18 under two separate
Reservation. I will have computer access in Germany from 10am until 10pm
tomorrow, Mon. 3/12/18 Berlin Time. Thank you again. Have a nice day.
I can provide more info on Jupiter later. Ist a good location if you dont have
a lot of Lugage.

Cozy and just right for single travellers.

Due to its location and competitive pricing, I chose this cute little hotel for my first trip to Amsterdam. The lady who had checked me in was very friendly and welcoming. Although there was a minor hiccup, she was very quick to make the fix and was very apologetic. I work in the same industry so it's completely understandable to make a billing error (was already fully paid but was charged again at check-in). Her promptness was very much appreciated!

The hotel is very small with no elevators so guests with large luggage may have a difficult time going up and down the stairs which are also quite steep. Walls seem to be paper thin as I had a difficult time sleeping my first night due to foot traffic and not to mention, tourists who have no sense of courtesy at very very late hours. So if you're a light sleeper, I suggest you bring earplugs to sleep with.

Other than the noise (mostly from other guests though), the hotel is very cute. I had a single room which was very small but if you're looking for simply a place to sleep and are on a budget, this place will do. It's at a very quiet and safe neighbourhood which is also near local attractions. This includes the museum district and also Anne Frank Haus, which are only about a 20-minute walk. Also near a great all-day brunch place called TED's (didn't make it there but I only hear great things about it).

Amazing value for the money

The Jupiter Hotel was such a pleasant surprise! Great location right near public transport and the museums, and good prices for daily bike rentals. Our room on the 4th floor was quite spacious and clean, and we loved the updated decor, especially the large shower. Very friendly staff checked us in and out and answered all of our questions. Much more than I expected at a budget price. This will be my go-to lodging for any future Amsterdam stays!

Staff was friendly at check but did not request payment. So being locked out of your room when returning after midnight was a bit of a shock. To add insult to injury, they charged a 4% surcharge to use credit card,. Really, 4% !

Smelly, noisy and overpriced. Birthday trip ruined

My girlfriend and I checked into the Jupiter on the 4th of February on a birthday trip. Immediately upon walking into the reception area we could tell the Jupiter hotel likely wasn’t the best hotel. It sorely needs renovation and the reception feels very dated and somewhat tatty.

Having walked the fairly significant distance from Amsterdam central the receptionist wasn’t clued into the fact that we were tired and that we just wanted to get to the room as he proceeded to spend ten minutes showing us a map then offering us deals on boat trips that they clearly get a kick-back on.

The receptionist seemed very insistent that we pay cash when checking in and now it’s clear to us why. We checked in, went to our room and were immediately disgusted. What we saw did not reflect the imagery being used on Expedia and the room smelled of damp. To make matters worse a party of ‘lads’ had checked in next door to us and we could hear the conversation going on word-for-word.

We went to reception to share our displeasure with the receptionist and were told that no other rooms were available that night and that one would be available the next day - he did say this would simply be an identical room with the beds pushed together.

When we quizzed the receptionist as to why our room did not match the images on Expedia he said “we have no rooms that look like that”.

We stayed for a further ten minutes and then left and stayed in alternative accommodation. we did not return!

Great location and price!

Great location and friendly staff. There were a couple condition issues like the shower curtain rod falling down and a blow-dryer that didn’t dry/started burning. Also, the WiFi was incredibly slow. Otherwise tho, it was great! Yes, it’s small and stairs are very steep but keep in mind the price, location and age of the building and that all makes sense. We would totally stay here again. €10 breakfast was good and totally worth it for convenience as well.

Great location but no parking

The hotel staff was friendly but concerning because we were told that we could leave later because we came in after midnight but the morning were unaware and rude about making us leave. The hotel wasn’t the best but it was clean. The parking is horrible and there should a better explained in the situation.
