The refrigerator was not plugged in, and then when we did plug it in, it did not work. The front desk said we could not get a new one at that point, but could change rooms....after we unpacked and settled in. not very convenient.

There was no literature in the room of amenities or breakfast times, we missed the buffet.

Some simple things to offer as we paid a fee for daily services, but received none.

I checked in at around 10pm, was assigned to Room 179, which involved carrying my suitcase up a serious flight of stairs, which was hard on my lumbar-damaged back, then a 10 minute trek to the room. The room looked good, but had no thermostat to control the heat and the mini-fridge wasn't plugged in. Starting at 4am a snow-plow spent clearing the parking lot for 30 noisy minutes. When I got downstairs the next morning at 8 am there was no one at the front desk to guide me toward the breakfast room and no bell to ring for assistance. All in all, I was treated thoughtlessly.

Beautiful hotel! Rooms were clean and comfortable except for the extremely loud hearing system. We were unable to turn it off which made sleeping a challenge for sure.
Dinner was delicious but the service was lacking even with only a small handful of tables.
We had a great time after dinner playing pool and our bartender Jeff was AMAZING!

Always the most important is clean sheets and towels and they were, so no complaint with cleanliness. I did have the feeling that we got the “budget” room for people who reserve thru Expedia or Hotels.com. Our room was in the one-story wing by the parking lot. You could literally climb into our room thru the windows which couldn’t lock! Regarding security, the doors that led into our wing from the parking lot were unsecured and unmanned 24/7. We were uncomfortable with the lack of security. But the worst was the NOISE. The heater was controlled by an HVAC appliance in the room and sounded like we were on the runway of an airport. It was unbelievably distracting and because the weather was raw, rainy and cold, we had it running all night. Added to that noise, whenever you turned the bathroom light on, the exhaust came on as well. Just as loud as the heater and didn’t even do the job of exhausting the steam from our shower. We couldn’t put the bathroom light on at night without waking each other up. I’m hoping there’s a plan to renovate these rooms because they are a bad example of what Avon Old Farms has to offer. The breakfast was fine, the staff was lovely and it’s very conveniently located to West Hartford, Avon & Simsbury. Not sure I’ll go back eventho I travel to this area often but if I did, I would request a 2nd fl room and test the appliances for sound.

hotel looks better on paper than in actuality. In room, safe did not work and nobody could fix it on the weekend. Also, the poster bed was nice but it means one can not watch TV from the bed without a post obstructing. Fancy hot breakfast buffet was very limited, all paper goods and did not have a lot of things other breakfast buffets have. Finally, price was $$$ and front desk would not guarantee an early check-in until we physically showed up at the hotel.

The entire property is dated and tired. Our room smelled intensely of mold and mildew. The carpets and upholstery were dirty and in need of replacement. Paint was chipped or peeling. The bathroom had grunge in the tile and wall seams. The shower curtain rod was rusty. I travel frequently and have stayed at some marginal properties, but this was by far the worst in recent memory.

Our room needed a serious update. The bath ceiling exhaust fan was as loud as a diesel Mack truck. The room was on the first floor & we couldn’t open the two windows, or lock them. There was coffee & tea in the room, but no coffee maker. A door on the tv cabinet, had fallen off. I had to email the hotel the next day to get a copy of our bill. At nearly $400 a night, this is unacceptable. The positive - Seasons restaurant was wonderful and their waitstaff were friendly and very helpful.

Perfect stay

I don’t know why you’d stay anywhere else. For the money this is the most beautiful hotel you could stay in and the breakfast is much better than chain hotel breakfasts. Thoughtful details in decor and beautiful views, bird feeders set up outside the breakfast window, dogwoods outside the room windows, kind staff, literally everything from start to finish made it the best stay I’ve had in a long time!

conveniently located in terminal two. Bed was nice. But the downside was pretty awful. The carpet, a light color, was plainly quite dirty and stained. I didn’t want to take my shoes off. The shower stall had mold in the ceiling and in the grout lines. This is basic cleanliness and it doesn’t take rocket science for housekeeping to spread the mold when they see it and to keep the carpets clean with some regularity. The hotel was quite dated as many airport hotels are, but this was not a Holiday Inn or a motel six, it was a Sheraton. At this price point, travelers have a right to expect basic cleanliness.

what made it worse? Was that at check-in, we were asked what time we plan to check out, which we informed the front desk. But by 8:30 in the morning, housekeeping was already knocking on the door, interrupting our sleep, followed by a bar man, looking for his bar tray that he used to serve a glass of wine to us the night before.

we had gone to the bar, as is our habit, to pay for a glass of wine to take to our room. We were told that we could not do that and had to use room service. For travelers on the fly, this is extremely inconvenient because of the wait time. Didn’t make sense to me. We finally checked out shortly after.

I do a lot of traveling and this property sold me on their pictures of chandeliers and beauty. The rooms are very dated not taken care of in anyway, musty smelling, mattresses are so old that they’ve taken the shape of bodies over the years. What a disappointment and disgraceful. It seems like management has given up and will/should close the property. I’ll also say that the employees must see the end coming because of their attitudes. You’ll be 100% better off going to the many chain hotels in the area.

Hotel was booked through Expedia and price was all inclusive. I don't know what a \"facility fee\" is and why it is separate. We were not told at check in, and just saw fee pop up on our credit card statement after arriving home.

We were recently at this hotel with a large group. We had a wonderful time. The room had beautiful high ceilings and it had a lot of charm. I loved that the bathroom had its own sink and then there was another sink located outside of the actual bathroom. We also really love the large refrigerator, spacious room, and comfy bed. If I was ever in this area again, I would used to stay here, but know that the air conditioning doesn’t get as cold as I like it, which is pretty cold.

The staff was very nice and there were some nice features like 24/7 coffee & tea and cookies. Complimentary breakfast was not very good. And maintenance was under par--our bathroom fan, which came on every time we turned on the light, sounded like a fog horn. The handles were missing from one of the dresser drawers, making the drawer unusable. We put in a maintenance request but no one was available on the weekends to make repairs.

Check in was ok, but we found that the bed was very firm - uncomfortable on your side ok on your back. The bathroom fan was very noisy, the WiFi didn't work. Breakfast was awful:the scrambled eggs were almost hard, the sausage barely warm, the bacon cold. The lone guy running it was on his phone and barely could look up to say sit anywhere. When he engaged, he was friendly enough.

This is a large property with comfortable amenities at a good price. The free breakfast is standard fare, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, and potatoes with the choice of breads for toast. They also offer some breakfast cereals and Chobani yogurt. The outdoor pool was wonderful, situated next to a grove of tall trees.

If you’re looking for a place to relax and recuperate, the Avon is it. The highlight is the outdoor environment: beautiful well-kept grounds with walking paths, multiple patios and sitting spaces, pool. There are also multiple indoor sitting spaces with lovely furniture, all kinds of games and books available, great for kids as wellThe rooms are spacious (including bathroom) with quality furniture. Disappointing Stay – Doesn’t Compare to Other 3-Star Hotels

We stayed at Old Farms for just one night, and thankfully so. The room was average at best — nothing special, certainly not what I’d expect from a 3-star property. While the hotel has potential to be charming, it falls short in its current state.

The biggest letdown was breakfast. The eggs were soggy and undercooked, and everything was served on paper plates with plastic cutlery — a first for me at a hotel of this rating. Overall, a forgettable experience. With some attention to detail, this place could be lovely, but it’s not there yet
