We stayed during a down time in January. The inn was most accomodating...warm and cozy. It was still decorated for Christmas which added to the ambiance. The staff was very welcoming - Glen went over and above to assist us and provide us with information. Sheryl was also very friendly giving us a nice little send-off when we left. Room and bed was comfortable and the town was charming. Will recommend!

I chose this spot over a conventional hotel for a 1 night business trip. I fully enjoyed the experience and I appreciated that it kept old technology. What I mean by that, it reminded me of the nineties and it transported me to another time and I want to go back to enjoy it again. The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything I needed. The staff were friendly and helpful. A great sanctuary.

The inn was so well maintained and preserved, modern necessity updates but kept all of the charm! Beautifully decorated, friendly staff, spacious room. The restaurant was fantastic as well. We had the short rib and rosemary chicken. Took our night caps up to our room. Shower was good too, water pressure and all. Easy parking, Complimentary water and wine in the lobby. No complaints at all. Would definitely return again!

We stayed in room 403. The room was huge but everything needed to be refurbished. The bed was very uncomfortable. Even though there was some kind of topper it was hard and the mattress itself was old and we could feel where the springs were. The room is partially below ground level and all night long two noisy humidifiers had to run. We could have turned them off but we were worried that mildew and mold may also affect us. The bathroom had had partial upgrades but the tub is old. Also, the toilet is the shortest toilet I have ever seen. I can’t imagine someone with mobility issues would be able to get up. There was a sofa in the room that had very obvious food stains on it.
The breakfast was not what I thought. It was a continental cold breakfast much like a holiday inn type. While you could get your food in a lovely room with a fireplace, if you wanted a table, you had to go to a smaller room with 6 tables that didn’t have much charm at all.
Overall, it was a disappointment and I’m glad we only had to stay one night.

Debbie at the front desk was a wonderful person and shared a lot of whimsical information about the area with us. She is someone who every business should have to welcome people to their business.

We stayed in the Carriage House and loved it. Coffee on the 1820 House porch watching the sun come up over the meadow with the Talcott Mountain Ridge. Simsbury is a great place to have a summertime slowdown.

Awesome staff members such as Sarah , Glen and maintenance guy Joseph . The property and its surroundings are AMAZING ! And a pleasure to explore the wilderness / suburbs settings along with the creativity of the town of Simsbury .
Plenty of restaurants and stores nearby immediately. They have a park/ frog pond in back of 1820 Hotel along with walking trail and plenty of baby frogs .
Room I had was very small but I still enjoyed the 4 day stay nonetheless. I appreciated that they have the cleaning crew closet door in hallway and did not lock it therefore I was able to grab the vacuum cleaner anytime I needed it which I enjoyed since I was traveling with my dog and he sheds a lot .
They have a sister hotel named Simsbury Inn about 5 minutes away on same road, where you can use the gym/ and awesome in-ground swimming and in-ground Jacuzzi from early morning up until 10 PM.
I had a very enjoyable time and was highly impressed not only with the town of Simsbury but also with Hotel 1820.

Lovely historic Inn in a great location.
We have stayed here several times over the last few years. We were always traveling by bicycle so we appreciate the restaurant choices nearby. The staff were very helpful with our bikes and allowing us to put them inside in Inn. The room was lovely with really nice touches. We received free water bottles and there is a refrigerator. Coffee and tea are always available in the breakfast room. I loved the comfy chairs in the room and the extra sink. The note pad and pen were a nice touch. Breakfast was much improved from the last time we stayed there. Many more options including fruit and yogurt, cold cereal, microwaveable breakfast sandwiches, and a nice selection of muffins, bagels, and breads.
Note that if you have trouble climbing stairs, you need to request the first floor as there is no elevator.

No elevator... although I realized later that that was shown on the website, so that is primarily my oversight.
But the worst part was a non-working toilet which we reported right away. They told us we were not working the handle correctly--but it did not matter what we did. It did not flush correctly. We ended up having to go down 2 floors to the general restrooms--not very much fun. The room seemed dusty and everything faded. Nothing like the pictures.

The female desk person was very nice and helpful....best part of whole experience....the place itself need quite a bit of maintenance.....there are water stain on ceilings, all the walls have peeling wall paper everywhere....the trim is smashed all throughout the building.....it smelled clean out in the hallway....when i entered my room it smelled like old wet moldy carpet which immediately hit me.....the furniture had pieces of wood missing and ripped off....the bed post frames were dusty....the wallpaper was peeling at seems and where it met switches and outlets....the bathroom fixtures looked old and dingy....there was blood on the curtain in the bathroom....we talked to the front desk monitor and she quickly helped us to another room which was appreciated....this room, under the bed topping..the soft part was blood stain again...we checked in at 11pm we checked out at out 1230am....

I would highly recommend the 1820 house to anyone looking for a cute getaway. My husband and I went for a wedding in the area, but I wish we could have stayed longer because it was the coziest little spot! Continental breakfast was perfect and the staff was amazing. Loved it.
