This is definitely a budget hotel without budget prices. When we arrived there was dark hair in the shower and ants all over the bathroom. We pulled out the sofa bed and the sheets were filthy and obviously used and not changed. That bed was unusable. The sheets in the main bed were stained but seemed clean. The walls are paper thin and the pipes in the bathroom knocked loudly all night long. Ice machine was broken and there was never anyone available at the desk for help. The ants were a problem our entire stay and the room had a weird odor. The location was good and the beds were decently comfortable but make no mistake this is a low budget motel 6 with some minor decorative upgrades.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Cove. The room is so adorable and was very clean and comfy. We were within walking distance of downtown Salem and enjoyed the walk. The staff was amazing and helped us figure out what to do while we were there. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our stay at the cove very much. The unit was about as big as my home studio apartment. 2 queen beds in a separate bedroom and another queen fold out in the living area. The bathroom was also spacious and well lit.
The kitchenette was great but would be even better if a small microwave was added. The community microwave in the “play room” was better than nothing but a wee bit of a distance for us. The ice machine worked once in the 5 days we stayed. Bought bags of ice at the liquor store a short walk away.
We really appreciated the combo for the storage closet so we could grab extra towels, cups and coffee. We’d rather not bother the office folk so it worked out well for us.
The office peeps were friendly and helpful and it made our stay all the more pleasant.
It was a busy few days at The Cove while we were there. Once a couple of ladies tried to get into our room before they realized they had the wrong room. Two other nights (one at 3am) someone banged on our door then left. We assume it was another case of mistaken room.
We enjoyed the outside area with fire pits, bbq grills, a giant jenga game and comfy swinging chairs as well as standard tables and chairs.
The upstairs game room was fun, too! Our 9 year old boy enjoyed playing foosball with a Dad as well as the snacks in the vending machine but it really needed refilling.
We liked the microwave popcorn but less than 1/2 actually popped. That happens at home, too. Parking was plentiful. Good location.

Smoking is practically off the property and thats totally fine! Honestly, it’s nice going to a hotel and it looking as cute and cozy as this one!! They had themed rooms (all booked but now i will plan in the future to get one!). We will absolutely come back!

I woke up in the middle of the night with about 100 ants next to my bed. But I can’t even tell the staff until 9 AM because there’s no staff at night. When I did finally get to the staff they only gave me one option, which is to stay in an ice cave themed room. Which does not sound appealing and let me tell you do not run that room. It is terrible. I wasn’t able to get a refund I wasn’t able to get out of my contract. They were gonna make me stay regardless of ants and regardless if I was comfortable, staying in the ice cave room or not. I would not recommend this hotel. It is a one to star 1 to 2 star hotel if that.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, I liked that it sat away from the road, the outdoor area was clean and we spent a lot of time out there by the fire pits. The area around it has gas, water and food within walking distance. Lots of sidewalks.

The motel was cheaply remodeled so its starting to fall apart even though it was a recent remodel. The toilet paper roll was falling out of the wall and the walls and ceiling are paper thin so you can hear everyone around you. The property had a lot of rundown stuff like a decrepit building and dead plants that were eye sores. Its also kind of far from town, but the walk felt safe.

Overall we enjoyed our stay because it wasn't busy, I dont know if I would stay here again though it was a bit of a disappointment.

You know that friend who remodeled their house after soaking on Instagram? This hotel had that vibe. Cute and seemingly modern at first glance. Clean, simple. Wet bar and beverage fridge. But furniture not fully assembled. A bed frame that uses cheap shelving brackets, shower curtain hung too low so you’re standing on it in the shower. The table was too small to even play a board game on. Nearly 9$ for a can of cider from the lobby mini fridge. Felt like it was trying to be more than it was. I’m not a local so maybe the price is what it is for the area.

We stayed in the pirate theme room and it was awesome! Just a note, inside the ship at the bottom there is literally zero air flow in there, but that is just the nature of the bed. It was so awesome. The place was super clean. The elevator is pretty far but the stair case is right by the room and it honestly wasn’t bad bring all your stuff up. The thing I want to express is how amazing the outdoor area was. We got to use the grill and the fire pits. The chairs are well maintained and comfortable. We had an amazing time out side and kept feeling bad for not being in our theme room but it was truly beautiful. We did go when it wasn’t busy, so I am sure that had a lot to do with how much access we had to everything but it was awesome.

Had The best time; The room was a bit short on the clean side.. ie crumbs etc saw some ants BUT clean sheets, towels, furniture etc. it just seemed like the cleaner was in a rush, I just think someone missed the mark.

Location is 10/10. Property is amazing and everyone was friendly! Lots of amenities. Fireplace in the courtyard, lots of places for pictures! Parking is easy, and doors are accessible to the outside. Beds were comfy and it was mostly quiet! Seems they are putting up an air-conditioned room for the summer and fixing the burned units in another spot of the property.

We stayed 3 nights and housekeeping didn't come at all. one of the days we told them we didn't need it. We had to go and get coffee bags twice and they are very stingy with them, give you 2. One night we came back to our room and lock was changed, had to go to office for new code. Bed was comfortable I will say. Also temperature in room never changed even when you put the heat up. It was a cold rainy weekend, Brrr.

Swing chairs on the patio were fun, but the place was understaffed. The check in hours were not clearly communicated, and we were own with minimal cell signal and no wifi to get the remote check in going.
The bathroom ceiling was peeling so much our kids wouldn't take a bath. The fixtures all looked new and modern, but the shower head was not something I'd ever select- possibly the most uncomfortable I've ever felt in a warm shower.
The room was spacious, but beds uncomfortable. Coffee in room was terrible, but the tea was great.
Full of highs and lows. With a different check in experience, the overall rating would have been a 3, but I wouldn't recommend or go back. The highs weren't worth the lows.

We stayed in a king suite. It was clean, well stocked with towels and instant coffee and tea. It had a hot water kettle (but we always bring our own). The fridge was enough for drinks and leftovers. Check in was quick and easy. A small issue with the door lock was easily fixed. Read the summary paper on table to make your stay more enjoyable. The patio outside with fire pits and grills was great.

Then due to not having enough for the incentive on my card, my bank is out of state and was short $9, family and i were sent away and i lost on $200. When booking, make sure you are asking all the questions so you don't end up like us and having your family vacation ruined.

The hotel has recently been renovated, and we loved the modern touches like the keypad lock on the door and the walk-in shower. Rooms are huge, beds are very comfortable, and location was perfect for us - just outside of town with easy access to all the sites. My stay at The Cove was generally positive, outside of the first night. I had hoped for a second floor room, but none were available. Yet, when I stepped into the room it was lovely. It was modern yet comfortable with nearly everything I needed. The bed was also very comfortable. (An extra blanket would have been nice, but thankfully I brought a small one of my own). The staff were friendly and fairly responsive. There was a bit of misunderstanding about the housekeeping and the system for communicating about it felt cumbersome. The first evening the upstairs guests were quite loud, and their footsteps heavy and disruptive well into the night. Also due to heavy winds that night, the door to the room rattled back and forth all night which was quite startling and made sleep very difficult. It is a motel-like set-up where you enter the room from the outside...a detail I either didn't notice or realize upon booking. The remaining three nights however, were quiet and peaceful and I slept much better. A couple of other suggestions: access to the ice machine would be helpful, especially for early morning departures and needing to keep remaining food cold for the day. Lastly, a microwave would also have been nice in the room. The Cove was a convenient spot, with easy access to nearby towns, food, and shopping. I enjoyed my stay, outside of the first night and would recommend with some caveats.

We stayed in room 134. It wasn’t one of the themed rooms, but it was very modern and clean. It had everything we needed with the exception of a microwave (or at least we couldn’t fine one). That would be my only suggestion - add a microwave. Location is good. It is not downtown. Downtown is walkable, but we had one in our party that has a bad knee, so we drove into downtown and parked in a garage. As it was off season, we didn’t have a problem parking. We had a good time in Salem and would definitely stay at the Cove again if we make it back up.

Great large and renovated room. Loved the parking and location. We weren’t able to use the outdoor spaces due to snow but they looked like they would be fun in warmer months.

The room was great for our family of four with two younger kids. We had a nice large bathroom with a tub. Loved having the fridge and dining table. Room was quiet and liked having the upgrades like the smart tv and temperature controls. Could have used instructions for the coffee pot
but otherwise everything was perfect.

This is a lovely little place. Technically it's a motel since there's no common lobby to access rooms, instead you walk up to your individual door from the outside but don't let that fool you. The accommodations are stunning and very spacious. The rooms were sparkling clean, comfortable bed, great shower, nice soap, modern kettle with coffee and tea in room, and despite the frigid temperatures outside, we were toasty warm inside. Additionally, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. My only concerns were: very bright lights outside not totally hidden by the blackout curtains and perhaps because we were given a room near the elevator, there was periodic banging that woke us up a few times. I would definitely stay again but would ask about the banging (a friend who stayed a few doors down heard it too) and ask if we could be placed away from the elevator.

We were in the one bedroom suite with a full kitchen. It was very clean and very nice. We honestly didn't see any of the staff even once which was pretty funny lol.
We checked in at 11:00 p.m. so we got a text with our room number and PIN code to get in and then check out was also just a phone call to let them know we've left and that was that.

We never even went into the main building to see the lobby or anything because we were so tired after our very full days in Salem.

I can say the outdoor area with the fire pits looked very nice although we couldn't use them due to snow but I'm sure in nice weather they're a really really nice touch.

Walking distance from Essex Street where all the shops are is about 20 minutes - 4 minute car ride.
Very convenient area to stay at, away from all the downtown noise.

Would definitely come here again and maybe take a themed room. We needed the suite with the kitchen this time.
The kitchen has a full size fridge and freezer, oven, Keurig coffee machine with pods.
Everything was very well appointed and would definitely stay here again.

We honestly were not sure what to expect with such vibrant themes, but we were impressed. The Haunted Forest room was fun and whimsical for a random night away. Our only complaint was that we couldn't get the room dark enough to sleep soundly with the exterior light right outside the window coming in so much over the curtain rod and the thermostat screen being so bright, but I covered that with a hand towel, and we made it work. We will be back in warmer months and look forward to using the outdoor amenities!

Clean room, ability to have access to room supplies if needed, (such as extra washcloths, ones designated just for makeup low-key brilliant, coffee or tea supplies) and a game/lounge room were a plus. There was an outdoor fire pit/grill area for guests to access.
Walking diagonally across the street to DD, after dark on a cold December evening, I realized how appreciative I was of the sidewalk from the hotel and onto the street. It had also snowed while we were there, but there was plenty of parking and things seemed to be adequately salted or sanded.
Since neither of us in our party wanted to actually drive into downtown Salem or fight for parking, we just got an Uber. We also ordered in our first night and no issues with delivery finding our room, or them having any issues with parking but maybe it is also probably considered off season for major tourism.
Deep soaking tub was also an important factor in booking.
There is train going by in the distance, not crazy loud considering I lived right next to railroad tracks coming from Northern Maine, and booking a house for a week in Pennsylvania, next to train tracks with the train going by every couple of hours round the clock, this was absolutely doable for me.

Room 116 specifically has this bright light in the air conditioner that really disrupted my sleep. House keeping didn’t really make the bed or change sheets. It’s a cool place to stay because it’s so close to downtown Salem. I was not in the themed room but in the suite. Everything was brand new in clean. The service was just pretty subpar.

The room was so creative! We had a wonderful experience staying in the witch cottage! The location is perfect: very close to downtown but still quiet! We will definitely stay there again if we ever find ourselves back in Salem!
