We stayed for just one night. The person working at the desk when we checked in wasn't very friendly or welcoming, but we didn't let it ruin our mood. It was a sisters getaway. The hotel was perfectly \"old\", and it reminded us of our childhood home with the doors and feel of the hotel. We had cocktails and apps at the bar at the hotel. The bartender was great! She was super friendly, and it was a relaxing time before we headed out to explore. The beds were comfy and the room, albeit a little small, was cozy. I would definitely return!

The Hawthorne was an elegant, friendly port in a snowstorm after we lost power at home. We were delighted that our dog could join us there, and the staff was warmly welcoming to all of us. The building and neighborhood are rich with Historic charm, the staff is attentive, and the tavern with its fireplace and beautiful wood paneling is a distinctive spot for a meal or a drink. Nathaniel would be proud.

This is a very well kept Historic Hotel that will immediately make you feel like you're in the 1920s! The staff is super friendly, the rooms and bathrooms are very clean, Nathaniel's restaurant is delicious, and the location feels truly premium, right across the Salem Common and connecting you to main Salem streets at walking distance (for real for real!).

Front desk: Horrible customer service from the girls at the time I did my check in, every question that I did was answered with attitude like it was obvious. No instruction was given for the parking and how to get in from there. At the time for checkout, the guy K did his job and makes me feel more welcome but I was actually leaving the place.

Very nice staff, clean room, and The Tavern has great food! We were very happy with our 4-day stay, and we would stay again. Small but comfortable room, small but perfectly adequate bathroom with great hot water and water pressure. Thin walls so you can all hear each other. That didn’t bother us but could bother some. Well kept-up historic old building. We definitely recommend staying here, and everything is within walking distance.

Plumbing must be very old as it took 10 minutes for the water to heat up every time i stayed here. Showers were very weak which was a subpar experience. Hard to control room temp so in winter it is so warm in the rooms. The hotel is a beautiful old hotel with not so beautiful old plumbing. Staff at front desk are great as i am sure tgey get these complaints all rhe time.

The entire experience felt special from the moment we arrived. The vibe is really what makes this place stand out — cozy, historic, and just mysterious enough to make the stay memorable. We even had two small moments that felt a little… suspicious on the paranormal side, which honestly just added to the fun and the story of the trip.
Beyond that, the service was excellent across the board. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the location couldn’t be better for exploring Salem on foot. Fantastic location and the hotel is beautiful - lobby is gorgeous, tea and water and coffee on hand in the lobby, a great tavern and even though there are not a good amount of vegan options at Nathaniel’s restaurant (but a ton of restaurants nearby that are convenient!) they do have beautiful music being played, and singers! I recently went the other day after working a double shift at work to stay at the Hawthorne I paid online in advance had my ID plus a security deposit and was still denied entry was highly embarrassed and got stuck out in the night through the cold because my money was tied up in the hotel have not been disrespected or felt so insulted in a long time I would not suggest the Hawthorne hotel to anybody
