If you are not familiar with the area, when the hotel website says there is no parking, it means that you cannot even drive up to the hotel to unload your stuff. It's on a pedestrian only "street," so be prepared to haul your things from the parking garage to the hotel.

If you are checking in late/after hours, don't bother walking around the block looking for a hotel specific entrance...there is a teeny tiny sign in the vestibule to the right of the entrance to the bar/restaurant... push the button on the Ring camera to have the front desk open the door for you.

Each floor has a water station. If you want ice, get it at the front desk before going up to your room...there is no ice at the water station. Water station instructions in your room say that there are empty bottles to fill up at the station (and a gimmick to purchase brand new bottles at the front desk to take with you), but there may NOT be empty bottles to carry your water...there might be ONE questionable glass bottle that is wet inside (from dishwasher condensation or was it JUST used?) which also smells like tonsil stones.

We booked the tiniest room. It was teeny and cozy. The sliding glass bathroom door should open the opposite direction for maximum room and minimal opportunities to crash into it when walking from the bed area. It also does not close completely, so privacy needs to not be a priority.

Room was clean overall, so housekeeping gets an A.

We booked the king bed room and it was great- spacious, clean, stylish. The location was great, also,right in the middle of the pedestrian area with shopping and restaurants all around us, and all our sightseeing trips within walking distance. Staff was great. Just a few negatives- we booked, partially, due to the rooftop bar and lower level bar, only to find out they are both closed on Mondays, our only full day there. This wasn't evident when we booked. Also, we are coffee drinkers who like a cup first thing in the morning before we leave the hotel, and again in the evening before we head out for dinner. There are no in room coffee makers, and the only coffee available was in the lounge from 7-11am. Also no ice machines. They do offer water stations on each floor. The last issue is lack of on-site parking and restricted access to hotel lobby vehicle drop off due to pedestrian zone. We did plan for this, and turned in our rental car when we got into town, and were able to walk to train station with luggage with no issues. All in all we enjoyed our stay, great location and staff.

The location is amazing. The Counter had good food. Very helpful and nice staff. Very clean. The bed was not comfortable at all for either of us and the heat did not work in our room so it got pretty cold. No mini fridge or microwave in the room. Overall a great stay!

Very clean & updated hotel in central Salem. The rooms are "micro", so not much room - but if you don't require much room you'll be fine. Parking is in the Salem Central parking deck ($20/day) that can be a ceased in the building directly across the walkway, so you won't get wet if it's raining.

We had an issue with the sink getting clogged, so it was kind of inconvenient
Also we were a little disappointed because the roof top was closed for an event the whole time we were there. And we were looking forward to seeing it going up there for dinner/drinks. But we understand it happens.
But other than that our stay was great and would definitely go back again for sure!

Very unsettling to find the place was not as clean as expected. While we were unpacking we seen a cockroach and wondered how many more there must be. There was a huge spider almost the side of my palm by the bed as well. The layout of the room we stayed in was also strange. Although, the staff was great.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bartenders at The Counter were amazing, the food was delicious (go for the wings! They’re made perfectly.) it was a little chilly and the thermostat did not seem to be working but they offered an extra blanket and that solved my issue. They have a water machine in the hall that dispenses sparkling water and still water which I found to be incredible. The location is incredible. The only thing I would say is a con is that the shower is an open-shower which I personally am not a fan of, but it’s a pretty small con compared to the many pros of this property.

Extremely small room. It's basically just a bed and a bathroom. The bathroom was so small, the sink was outside of it next to the bed. No closet and no drawers.

There's also no parking. You can't even pull up in front of the hotel to drop off luggage.You have to park your car and carry your luggage to the hotel.

On a positive note, everything was clean. And the staff are very friendly, very helpful, and very knowledgeable of the area.

I have never had such welcoming nice staff. Zay was amazing. I have never been to a hotel where I can text food and alcohol requests and have them bring it right to the room. Zay is the most smiling welcoming front desk a place could ask for. Without Zay I wouldn’t have had such a great experience. The kindness the smile the helpfulness made everything worth it. I also love how the restaurant was right downstairs. They had great food. The manager or owner whoever he was, he would always check to ensure our food was good and we were satisfied. It’s the perfect location right in town. Definitely will stay here again.

Specifically, the church street lot has parking available through the phine app. However, if you arrive during later hours (9 p.m. - 8 a.m.) the app notes that it is " unavailable". I was able to park in the parking garage, but whould have preferred the lot.

It was a great stay. Nice room. The only complaints was that it was so hot in the room and cold outside. You couldn’t adjust the temperature because they said “the air conditioning had not been turned in for the season”. We kept the heat on 65 degrees and it stayed well over 73. Also could use either a full shower door or a shower curtain. Location was great.

Air did not work and heat would not shut off. It was 80 degrees in the room the entire time. It was so hot we couldn’t even sleep. Staff did not offer to change our room or anything. I have a medical condition that flares up if I get too hot and this was a horrible experience.

There were Mice running across the floor. The room was cold. The shower had no door, and water would get everywhere. I was told two hours after I was supposed to check in that my room wasn’t available and that they had to downgrade my room. I find this quite suspicious, because my room was supposed to be ready two hours before they called. They offered to reimburse the difference, but it has been a week, and nothing. Perhaps it will come through, but no one answered my phone this morning when I inquired on it. They offered me free breakfast for the mice, which didn’t include my beer unbeknownst to me, and a travel voucher. I told them I wouldn’t be back for some time and they told me that they would figure something else out. I still don’t know what that something else is. There are far better places to stay in Salem. Stay away!

Our first room had a water leak and staff (who were fabulous, btw) immediately moved us to another room (king vs queen and the new room had a nice soaker tub). Both rooms appeared clean. That said, when I pulled to covers back in the king room, there were multiple hairs and flecks of something on the sheets. Upon further examination, there was a clear appearing stain on the sheet as well. I did not alert management and just rolled with it. The bed was super comfortable and we slept well. It was a little strange to me that the hotel offered zero breakfast despite having a large room in the back with seats and an attached restaurant that is only open for dinner. There was also NO onsite parking or availability for door drop off, so we had to carry our luggage .25-.3 mile to the hotel, which was fun.

Room was great, loved the decor and tall ceilings. Only complaints I would have is that there’s no fan (that works well at least) in the bathroom so it can turn into a steam room pretty quickly. Other thing would be that the TV didn’t have streaming service accessibility, which is pretty standard in modern hotels. These are pretty minor though, loved everything else! Great staff and room is well kept.

This was my second stay at Hotel Salem and I can’t say enough positive things about it. Rooms are clean, all the staff is friendly, location is by far the best, as you walk out right onto Essex street the heart of Salem! We love it, we enjoy staying every time we visit Salem!
