Was ideal as an overnight stay after visiting the theatre. Room was comfy and clean but found it quite noisy through the night with heavy steps and talking. Easy parking and check in. Didn't stay for breakfast as had read previous reviews so went to nearby spoons instead. Would definitely stay again if the need arose.

We stayed only the one night. Parking was okay. The room itself and furniture was extremely outdated, and needed decorating. Mattress uncomfortable, and was a pillow short. Used teabags on the outside window ledge and covered in bird mess. Reception had none available. Shower room okay. We didn't bother with breakfast, as many quests queuing in a very small area.

Friendly welcome and easy check in.. free car park around the rear of the property..
The room contained everything we
needed needed .. .. only draw back.. two single beds pushed together to make a double..my mattress was ok but the other was to soft and lumpy.. Room although clean and comfortable it would benefit from a little TLC but not complaining for the price
Breakfast was included.. described as a grab and go..it was ideal and a great way to start the day
I guess I would describe it as cheap and cheerful and great value for money

The location is good and the staff are mostly lovely. Unfortunately, the rooms and property in general is incredibly outdated. Furniture was old and worn; the blinds didn't stay rolled up easily; and the lighting was dim giving the whole place a dull look. It was tidy and relatively clean, but when I walked around, my socks were dusty and a bit dirty afterwards. I had to clean the floor myself. Breakfast was a complete joke. Highly processed mini packet croissants; a few apples and oranges; a big tub of plain yoghurt; mini jams; tea and coffee and watered down juice. No cereal, no granola, nothing to have with the yogurt. No bread or toaster to at least have a very basic breakfast of toast. The juice and milk were in open jugs, so I saw small bits fall into the juice and didn't touch it. I ended up having to buy breakfast on pretty much all the days I stayed. Absolutely not worth the £250 for 4 days! Especially high price considering it's not peak season. Save your money or spend a bit more and stay elsewhere.

The location of abbey lodge was great, only a few minutes walk into town. Handy for restaurants and shopping. It was a short drive to get to the rural areas which we enjoyed walking. We booked a twin room which was much bigger than the doubles we saw.
It was bang for your buck!

Plus points were easy walking distance to station & town centre and plenty of car parking space. Hot water (even from cold tap!)
Breakfast appalling - would be better just having a coffee machine and letting guests bring own breakfast.
It's like old tired and stained student accommodation. But it's reasonable cost and you just about get what you pay for. Forget previous posts about great breakfasts they no longer do them due to costs.

Property was ok. Door was hard to open. The desk clerk was very helpful at check-in but her substitute was wearing headphones and always on the phone and speaking very loudly and we could hear him in our room which was about 20 feet from the check-in desk. The room smelled like someone just used the bathroom and that was not pleasant. Turning on the AC helped mitigate the smell.

We booked as a last minute stop point between London and Oxford. The check in was very easy - and conveniently at 2pm which worked really well with our timing.
We had a room with 2 twin beds which was a decent size with a good size bathroom - which for the price we paid was value for money.
Downside - no elevator - which is really inconvenient if you have a top floor room which we did. Carrying a large suitcase up the 3 flights of narrow stairs was not easy. Not something that can be remedied easily - just a heads up to anyone looking for a pleasant stop point.
Breakfast was very simple, could put a little more effort to have cereal or toast options and individual yoghurts instead of a shared pot.

Clean, practical, homely accommodation.

The hotel is easy to find, and there's plenty of off-road parking. The staff were helpful and polite. The hotel though is kind of dilapidated and due a makeover - but the rooms and bedding were clean, there was a generous kettle and tea/coffee supply, large mugs. The bathroom well lit and a had good shower. The room was reasonably quiet, and the TV worked (most of the time). Breakfast was a Bacon Butty, or a few cellophane packed items, but unlimited and practical. I would stay there again as it was a bargain price and nothing was wrong/offensive, just a bit run down. If it was all tip-top I would expect it would be more expensive, so it suited me on a low budget this trip.

I was warmly greeted with a lovely smile by Lily. She was informative and clear with instructions.
I saw Lily more than just at my check in and she was always the same, sweet and warm.
Jariah - was funny and warm also.

My room was clean-ish, here is a list of what needs to be updated and maintained

Bins needs cleaning,
Toilet brush was not clean,
Very dusty behind the toilet,
Dusty behind the furniture,
Dusty skirting boards,
Loose door handle,
Need more handing space and hangers for clothes,
Cracks in some of the ceiling, spiderwebs and a little mold.
The duvet had stains on it after I stripped the bed for the sheets to be washed.

I would stay again but i would definitely need these things to be changed for my rating to go up.

Perfect location, gentle walk into town, lots of restaurants to eat at within minutes. Room big enough and certainly warm, clean and presentable. The shower was amazingly powerful, and hot water didn't take an age to come through. Nice car park round the back, with on street if that was full. For what we required is fitted the bill exactly.

Property looked tired and in need of some refurbishment and a lick of paint. Room was clean and decent for the amount however the window was broken. Thin walls such that one could hear other guests in the corridor and nearby rooms. The whole hotel had a strong smell of cigarette smoke from the moment.you walk in all the way up to the rooms...this was really off putting. Management should consider a dedicated smoking area.

Overall, not bad for the amount paid and for a night's stay. Basic breakfast provided and access to a microwave available.

Cheap stay, good location for us, with parking. Showers hot. Bed was double pushed up against the wall. If you have limited mobility this might be difficult. Shower over bath. Cean bedding and towels. No bathmat. Everywhere clean, just tired.

Booked 2 rooms for 1 night. No lock in one of the rooms requested another. Dirty and stinking carpets. The whole corridor stinked of cigarette smoke. Terrible bed and pillows. Did not sleep at all. The pics shown are dosnt evn come close to the actual state. The sas part is I booked seeing the images put upon hotels.com which are not even close to reality

Car parking offered but not available due to car park being full. Alternative to park on road, not so good as location on steep hill and nothing avaiable outside.
Very basic accommodation, shower screen would not close. Provided were ith one hand towel and one bath towel. Breakfast, ok, bacon roll.
Overall very basic facilities and obviously in decline. Would not recommend.

The Abby if fine for contractors on a short stay. Hot shower, comfy beds and the TV works. Short walk into town for pubs and eats. But the hotel seems to be very noisy and you can hear above, below and to the sides whenever anybody walks around or opens draws etc.

The room was cheap and adequate for the price. It was clean. It was handy there was a 24/7 reception and the station is close by. The restaurant was still undergoing refurbishment so if bacon butties are not your thing it would be a struggle. I also could have done with shampoo and done without a cleaner entering the room without warning at 8:20am. The main issue though was the lack of heating from the evening through to the following morning and that there was no hot water in the morning. The guy at reception was apologetic, was trying to get it fixed and offered a discount for my next stay. I suppose these things happen but it was minus three degrees and I entered up wearing two sweaters in bed, the duvet had to be doubled over and with a coat on top. Certainly memorable!

I stayed at Abbey Lodge Hotel over Christmas while I was visiting my family. I chose the hotel as it was in a great location and reasonably priced.

I wasn't expecting much from the room, just a simple, clean straightforward (hopefully on par with travelodge) experience that was comfortable.

Unfortunately this was not what I experienced. The room was very dated and had a deep, strong smell of old tobacco that was very unpleasant. The bed was very uncomfortable. I don't mind a firm mattress but this one felt like there was barely any give to it. When I had a shower in the morning it made the smell even worse.

I asked for a refund and checked out after only one night's stay. The lady at the desk told me she'd ask the manager. I didn't hear back so I followed up today a few weeks later and spoke to a man who I assume was the manager. He was polite at first but said there was nothing he could do as the room is so cheap already. I had paid £95 for the 2 nights, which although cheap I did still expect a basic level of cleanliness and hygiene. I'd lost the key when I checked out and only later when I got home found it in my washbag. Which is obviously my fault, but after trying to come to a compromise and saying i'd be happy with just a refund for the night I didn't stay, he declined, and then asked if i could send the key back.. which felt very rude after not meeting me halfway. Would definitely not recommend this hotel. Spend a bit more and stay in a travel lodge.

Everything was quite ordinary. In view of the refurbishment claimed to be taken place, no restaurant service was provided. We were crumped into the sofas and a few high chairs with a small table in the lobby area to take breakfast. I do hope the restaurant will be completed next time I visit.

This was a 1-night stay for work, parking available at rear of premises but not enough spaces for the amount of rooms at hotel. I was in room 32 at rear of premises so got noise in the room from the car park at the rear. The room was very basic but functional. The heating was on high and controlled centrally. I had asked in the booking for decaf tea and coffee but there was none, so went asked lady on reception and got some decaf coffee. At the moment their restaurant is being refurbished so breakfast (included in room price) is in the reception foyer. The wifi was poor. I managed to get on it with one device when I arrived (about 3pm) but later in the evening could not get on at all. The venue is walkable into the town centre with a lot of choices for evening meals.

I arrived very late at night and the front door was locked. I am the bell which was prompted answered. The man who answered the door was not rude but was not at all friendly or welcoming. I was given my room key and directed to my room. My room itself was comfortable but very plain with no decoration and lots of dust on the surfaces. The blind at the window was dirty and stained and the room absolutely stunk of cigarettes. I am glad I only had to stay one night.

Nightmare stay!

Without doubt the worst hotel we have ever stayed in! Threadbare carpets throughout, front entrance doors are rotten and hanging in the breeze , really not sure how they call this a hotel! Not even good as a hostel,
We chose it for its location for us to meet up with some friends, when we got back from our evening out it became apparent that the guy I think directly below us was having a party of his own which left the rest of the clientele either banging on floors or the walls, after sticking it out for 2-3 hours had had enough and packed our bags and left around 4.30 in the morning, whilst walking back to our car in the car park in the dark and passing the window below us completely lit up with some guy completely out of his head dancing completely stark naked in front of the tv! I think it’s fair to say that we didn’t feel comfortable or safe in this environment,When we left through reception I made it very clear to the guy on reception that this place is a tip,
And I totally stand by that!!
Surprising we didn’t stay around to sample the culinary delights of breakfast!!
Total shambles!
Not sure how this place could have any stars at all!
If I could give it a minus rating I definitely would,

Hotels .com should not be promoting this kind of place it’s not fair to the people booking or indeed hotels.com themselves!

The hotel was well situated for the town area, short walk for my evening meal as the hotel didn’t have facilities to serve apart from breakfast. Parking was ok once I had squeezed into a space due to cars taking up more space than they should. For what I needed for 1 night stay the hotel was fine.
