Great location and a great vibe consistent with the historic town setting. Hotel has a first class bar and breakfast was very good. It is a unique hotel with the shower and bathroom sink built in a loft above the main bedroom with the toilet area on the first floor. Outside noise is a little loud as well but overall would highly recommend this place.

We loved 1898 The Post! The staff were incredible, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and really unique. Our room had gorgeous 20 feet or higher windows. The breakfast quality was fantastic, something about the food just tasted better than our other hotels we stayed at. Checkout the cocktail bar for a signature drink, they were also fantastic. One thing to be aware of our room had the shower and sink upstairs. It was no problem for us, but if you have mobility challenges, you should request a room with out this.

Stylish and very comfortable hotel with exceptionally lovely staff. The building is very characterful and imposing. Great breakfast. Cleanliness impeccable. Secure wifi. The beds are pretty firm while the pillows are the very soft kind that seem to be the norm in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the staff will find you a mattress topper if you need one. Rooms are well equipped with many cold drinks, a kettle and a coffee machine. The teabags are Mariage Freres. Just a few quibbles. Because the rooms’ ceilings are so high, the bathroom is on a mezzanine level, while the toilet is on the lower level, and there is no handbasin in the toilet- you have to walk upstairs to wash your hands which is not so much fun in the middle of the night, and either the staircase is pitch black or you turn the staircase light on which also lights up the bathroom and actually lights up the entire bedroom, disturbing your partner. The internal staircase needs to be better lit as the stairs are in shadow when you’re coming down. The breakfast is served in a room which acts as a bar the rest of the day and is furnished with low armchairs and sofas. If you’re really unlucky you end up trying to eat your breakfast with the table up under your chin. Lastly, this is not a hotel for the mobility-impaired as there’s no way to avoid having to walk up about 10 stairs to reach reception.

A wonderful hotel in Ghent with a quirky room set up (ours not for anyone with mobility issues since there are stairs) and truly exceptional service. We knew we were in for a treat from the minute we arrived and the receptionist walked us to our room, which had a waiting waffle. The staff was always smiling,warm and welcoming.

The room overlooked one of the large town squares but we never worried about sound because of the double windows. Dramatic height room with a loft, where the sink and shower were. We did have a bit of a ick factor since the downstairs toilet meant others may have used the hand railing with unsanitized hands on their way to the sink, foregoing the readily available hand sanitizer dispenser in the bathroom. We were careful and used hand sanitizer. Big shower with fluffy towels, robes and slippers.

Fantastic location to explore Ghent. Quick walk to boat rides. Right in the middle of the beautiful parts of town. Supermarket below the gorgeous building. Delicious breakfast each morning with made to order eggs. Highly recommend staying here.

Not a true 5 Star hotel. Very dark. Decor trying to be atmospheric but really just old junk Attempting to be charming. But it’s not. No restaurant. Breakfast was very, very good but pricey. Room had a great view and was quiet but very small. And dark. No siting area. Shower and sink was in loft area up steep stairs. No sink or place to wash your hands downstairs where toilet was located. Hand sanitizer was provided. Like in a port-a-potty. Ick. Did not like that layout AT ALL. Carpet in hallways and elevators etc. was very worn out and shabby. Entry- reception area hard to find and strange. The hotel definitely needs an update and sprucing up. Best thing about it was the location.

A very magical stay at this fantastic hotel. The small touches at check-in were very well-received by us. The 'Letter' room was very nicely furnished. The cocktail bar is one of the best we had experienced. The location is excellent for exploring Ghent. I would certainly stay here again if i return to Ghent

Beautiful place to stay. Very unique. Styled wonderfully so you feel like you’re in a story. If you struggle with stairs though, I’d consider elsewhere. If you’re good with stairs make sure you check out all the nooks and crannies. Bed very comfy.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful four-night stay at The Post. The hotel’s location is absolutely unbeatable, and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our visit. One thoughtful touch that stood out was finding an Easter egg filled with Belgian chocolate in our room—such a perfect gesture for the holiday weekend. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Just a small note: in our room, the toilet was located downstairs while the sink was upstairs. It wasn’t a major issue, but something worth being aware of.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Ghent. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay overlooking the basilica. Close to shopping and right on the canal. Beautiful Easter Brunch and very friendly staff in dining area. Best stay yet in years of traveling in Europe!

We have an exceptional 4 day stay! The rooms are beautifully appointed with everything you could want (the only thing to note is that some rooms have the shower and sink in a loft space, so the stairs were a little challenging for my mother). The breakfast buffet is a must! The views are stunning from every window in the hotel, and the location could not be better. The staff was warm and very helpful. It was a perfect stay.

Booked the tower suite for my husband's birthday was absolutely out of this world, couldn't beat the view. Staff were attentive and had put out some flowers after I'd mentioned the reason for our stay. Perfectly located, breakfast was lovely. Will treasure this trip.

What a hotel!

What a fantastic hotel! We were greeted warmly, shown to our rooms and offered extra service such as more bedding, milk, coffee if required. We were given maps of the city and recommended places to visit.
The room was spotlessly clean, all fixtures and fittings worked and were of a very high standard. Trye bed was very comfortable and the pillows were super snuggly. Extras such as the soaps and shower gel were of high quality and smelled divine. We had a lovely view of the square from our room.
Breakfast was perfect for us, lots of choice and nothing too much trouble for the staff. Spent an evening at the bar enjoying the cocktail making (not cheap, but worth it).
Thank you to all who work so hard to make this hotel one of the best we have ever stayed at.

An architectural masterpiece/ best location.

Gorgeous Hotel, in one of Ghent’s most beautiful architectural landmarks. One feels they are staying in a museum of sorts. Perfect location. Bed linens fit for a King. Only drawback was my beautiful shower was up a steep staircase and if your mobility is challenged then this is a huge problem but I’m ever so glad I experienced this gem of an establishment. The staff is fantastic.

A Must Stay in Gent!

This property has a sophisticated gothic vibe you likely won’t see anywhere else. Design, furnishings, linens, appointments, toiletries are all top notch. The breakfast was served by two of the most adorable and fun young women and was plentiful and delicious. The Post is located in the middle of everything so shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, cathedral are all walkable. AND the whole place was whimsically decorated for Halloween!

We stayed in the tower suite, which is very special, although it is a bit inconvenient to go to the toilet cause you have to climb down 28 steps to go to the toilet at another level. The hotel is near the touristy area. Taxi to the nearest train station only cost €10. Our room was not ready when we tried to check in at 4pm but they offered us free drinks in the bar lounge. Breakfast was excellent.

It’s an amazing hotel in a historical building. It was originally a post office long time ago. The duplex room is very spacious and lovely with lots of nice decorations. The Saint Nicholas’ Church is literally opposite to the hotel and can be seen clearly through the window of the room. The location is also quite nice, which is right next to the river and in the central area with walking distance to most of the population places. We were very impressed in general.

Mysterious dark green walls, cutest antiques and oddities (dried beetles in bell jars)… little snugs with honor bars, Guerlain Eau Imperiale bath products and hotel fragrance! Soft cuddly robes and slippers. Great reads in your room and all about the hotel. Best attentive staff and you are in the middle of everything Ghent!

Lovely hotel renovated from an old post office. Wonderful location directly over the canal. Rooms are nice. However, in some rooms, the toilet is on a different level than the sink. They are connected by a narrow stair that does not have sufficient lighting when descending. It worked well enough, but one should know this before booking the room.
