The hotel was lovely, the family room was spacious and recently refurbished. Beds were firm. Parking is 25 Euros a day and can’t be reserved beforehand, so first come first serve. Otherwise a local parking garage nearby. The only negative is that the bathroom was a wet room so the water didn’t drain well and the water remained on the floor. It’s slippery.

The hotel was in a great location, close to St Michael's Bridge and also had parking. The parking was secure but quite expensive. The building was really beautiful as it was an old monastery. We did not have breakfast as it was quite expensive, but there was a lovely cafe at the end of the road. The staff in the hotel were really friendly and helpful, my partner injured his foot and they helped with ice packs and there was a pharmacy around the corner. The rooms were spotless and beds were comfortable. Very peacful despite location.

This is a wonderful and very unique hotel. We loved the Monastery atmosphere and beautiful chapel. Great breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and spacious. I would definitely stay here again.

Amazing shower but without ventilation. That should be installed asap. We didn't figure out how the coffee machine worked. The bed was very good, but there was'nt much space around the bed. Breakfast was offered for 25 Euro per person which we declined. We only stayed for one night.

This property has bed bugs. I discovered this at midnight - the night guard was unbelievably rude and argumentative when I raised this as an issue. He was dismissive and aggressive and frankly I’ve never experienced anything like it. The ladies at reception were very nice, tumble dried my clothes after I washed them, I was given an alternative room for the rest of the night and the hotel issued me a full refund that is to be honest the least they could do. I am covered in bites, had to book a new hotel for the rest of my trip and this cast a bit of a pall over the holiday. Both staff members I spoke to were keen to insist the hotel wasn’t at fault as they had just had a lot of guests from the city festival. Make of that what you will. The property is charming and well located but the cleanliness and self-admitted capacity to handle large numbers of guests in these circumstances leaves a huge amount to be desired.

It was a fun little quirky place to rest at night. If you don't mind sharing the toilets and showers, go for it. Ita not a big deal to be fair. Super close to the canal and all the main parts of Ghent. Would definitely recommend! Thanks for the hospitality!

We had a great stay! Room was spacious and a short walk to some great restaurants. Although our room had air conditioning, it got very hot at night. Breakfast buffet provided a big selection of food options and good coffee. Would definitely return but maybe not in the summer!

This was a fantastic find! The room was spacious and spotless, very clean. Everything was as advertised, we had a small kitchenette, lightly stocked with necessary items. The bathroom was large, the staff was excellent. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The room was spacious and very new. The bathroom had a window that wouldn’t stay open. It seemed a little farther than expected from the sites. We would have liked to have seen more history and pictures of the building. The room number named a person, however it didn’t let you know anything about them. The room we were in was not accessible by an elevator, which was fine for us. Seems like they should ask that when booking. Renovations well done.

Lovely friendly helpful staff. Great value room compared to other places nearby. The window above the room door let light in when other guests walked by the rooms and the automatic light switched on, but this was very infrequent and otherwise no complaints. Would stay here again!

Great central location, peaceful and good parking - but all a bit shabby and basic for the price. Room walls rather thin and noise carries through. Breakfast was good.

The idea is good, but this is all rather tired and needs some investment to make as nice as it could be. If your primary concern is location and you are driving, this is a great choice. If you want somewhere of a high standard in terms of rooms this isn’t it.

Smart and quite trendy renovation of old monastery. There was a cold tap alongside my wash basin but no hot tap. Very odd - perhaps a legacy from monastic times ! Ha ha. I was on first floor and never did find the toilet so I always have to go downstair to the first floor to the toilet. Perhaps there was hot water and a first floor toilet but never found them.

Room was lovely and clean and full of character - we picked the deluxe double with garden view (room 0.1). The stone floors and walls were quite cold which is to be expected but do bring some slippers - however as the bathroom ventilation wasn't good, this mesnt water pooled/condesated on all surfaces. The main issue was sound insulation - at night we could hear noise from rooms around us, people walking up the stairs, televisions, and all the plumbing and whenever someone used the bathroom! Made for a very communal experience. The ventilation system also made a lot of loud noises as it turned on and off through the night. As the cherry on top, a random man opened our room door at 09:30 and showed himself in - much to our alarm! Definitely an experience and the building itself was beautiful, we may have just not lucked out on our room allocatjon - however we won't be recommending to our family/friends.

We were having issues connecting to the internet. The staff working, Vicky (I believe her name is), tried her best to troubleshoot the issue. It didn’t resolve it but we appreciate the effort she made, going over and above, for the issue to be resolved and for our stay to be worthwhile.
The problem was beyond her control but the dedication she showed was truly remarkable.
Give her a raise!!

Great hotel ...very different from the standard box hotel. Stayed on the rectory cottage. Room was spotless and very comfortable.

Quirky historic hotel in a very quiet part of the city, but just a few minutes walk from the centre. Great staff, lovely breakfast. Well appointed room and bathroom. Only slight criticism is that the double bed was two singles pushed together and they were very \"mobile\" so would drift apart easily!

Lovely peaceful hotel, great location for Ghent

We loved our stay, the hotel is in an ideal location for the town centre and they tried to meet most of our special requests, very quiet room, walk-in, full-height shower. Extremely comfy beds, but no natural down pillows. Mainly good breakfast with range of usual food, bit lacking in wholemeal /rye breads, sadly nothing much in fresh salad stuff like cucumber /tomatoes /peppers.

This is a lovely property in an old monastery while it keeps an elegant yet spartan decor reminiscent of the monastery the beds are comfortable with luxurious bedding the bathrooms are are elegant, and the property is quiet. BUT, there is no need to feel uncomfortable if you are not religious, there is a wink to the modern secular world visible in the art work, look closely, it will make you smile. The staff is wonderful.

Pro: The hotel itself is very cool and interesting just to walk through. Also the beds are pretty comfortable.

Con: the room was not fully cleaned (trash had not been emptied and the sink had not been cleaned)... but, more importantly, someone keyed into the room at 9:30am for no reason?? No warning knock nor apology. That was a bit alarming.

Staying in an old seminary was very awesome and the girl at the counter was very helpful, however the older side of the property where I stayed needed much work. The bathrooms were in I’ll repair and dirty, the room locks were poorly installed with drywall screws, the tv did not work in my room, and there were significant gaps around the room door. I have stayed in hostels in poorer areas of the world that were not in such poor shape. From what I gathered, there were other rooms that were recently renovated and had in-suite bathrooms instead of them being located half-a-landing down or down the hall.

What an amazing place! A former monastery sympathetically renovated and converted - with some quirky touches. Really nice rooms with all facilities. Good breakfast - though a bit on the pricey side? Only bit that needs improvement is check-in. Staff are nice but the system seems either too slow or too complicated - it all takes way too long and staff (though perfectly nice) seem overwhelmed with it. Would definitely stay there again, though - it’s a really unusual place in Gent.

We are 75 years old and were given a room on the second floor. The elevator was not functioning and we had to drag our luggage two levels (47 steps). In our room there was no internet connection. The woman at the reception (telephone) told us this was not possible, since she decided that there was connection. Quite rude. The same evening the friendly man, William, told us that our room was the only one without connection, but this did not solve the problem.
Otherwise the room was excellent, and the personnel was helpful and friendly. With a functioning elevator and a good internet connection, this would be an excellent hotel at a reasonable price

Beautiful use of Ghent Landmark

What a neat property. The building is beautiful, and the decor is both spartan and tongue-in-cheek. Totally appropriate for a former monastery! Really friendly staff. Only issue might be that the floors are creaky and the walls are rather thin. So maybe not the best place to go if you plan on being anything but on the quiet side! (Unless you’re an exhibitionist...) neighborhood is just off the main drag, an easy walk from all the beauty of old Ghent.

The provided water bottles were not new for me & I couldn’t get new ones. Breakfast is continental, so I did not purchase it. Beyond that, it was immaculately clean, newly refurbished with comfortable twin beds, but retained quite a bit of character. Bedding was wonderfully soft, towels abundant & thick. The Monasterium is being renovated and improved and will become an excellent hotel. Great location just 4 mins from the historic centre of Ghent, great breakfast, some parking on site, lots of history and a beautiful private chapel. With a visit just to look around. Some rooms and corridor areas still need more work, but overall a great find at a reasonable price. I guess the prices will increase when all the work is done.

Great place for a museum, not for staying the night. Needs upgrades, we were told that we have breakfast, but they never mentioned that we have to pay, we found that out at our check out. It is in a good location quiet and walking distance from all attractions.

An excellent choice for a young adventurous person on a limited budget. Location good, 10 min walk from center.

I was promised a comfort double room which should have been freshly renovated. However, the room was big with 6(!) single beds but definitely not renovated recently. Bathroom falling apart... next trip to Ghent I'll stay in one of the overpriced but nice places again.

Safe place to sleep. In dissaray of condition. Bathroom had no heated water and rotten floor that felt unsafe in places. Cheap place to stay, but there are better value for your money. Paying for be ahead of time is a poor investment and has no variety.

This was fun!

currently undergoing renovations, our room was a non renovated one. However, we were given a huge family room with massive bathroom. Everything very clean. We had 3 nights here and had a great deal of fun. As we are cycle touring, it was fabulous to be able to spread out everywhere. Great wifi, and even some British tv channels, which enabled us to 'veg' out for a few hours watching rubbish! Perhaps not for everyone, but the fact this was a monastary - and it felt as if the nuns had only recently left, made the whole visit fantastic. The staff were brilliant as well.

We stayed in the Rector's House: tall, thin building with big bedrooms and bathrooms. Room 21 has mini kitchen with fridge, sink, two electric rings (but no pans, china or cutlery). Rooms have kettles, cups, tea/coffee. Lovely historic hotel - obviously, as it is old, it hasn't got every modern comfort but our rooms were clean and comfortable with a big sitting area. Five minute walk into the heart of the old city and to trams/buses for getting to the stations to visit Bruges, Antwerp, etc. Very pleasant reception staff who dealt with a plumbing problem quickly and with good humour. Didn't eat there - breakfast is 17.50 euros. Would stay again.

BED BUGS -- BEWARE and STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL

I cannot rate this hotel well because our experience was ruined by waking up scratching and finding bed bugs in our sheets. After staying one night, we were covered in bites that increased the days following. They bites became so unbearable and painful that one member of group ended up going to the emergency room two days after our trip. When we reported this to the hotel staff -- we were given plastic bags to put our clothes in and insect spray. When living in Australia several years ago I experienced a bed bug infestation of my apartment -- which made this a particularly horrifying experience. Bed bugs are incredibly difficult and expensive to get rid of. We threw away our suitcases for fear that they had attached themselves and spent the entire day washing and heat-treating all articles of clothing. Poor unsuspecting guests may be taking the bed bugs home with them from this hotel and are likely unaware they have been bitten as for some, bed bug bites do not appear for days or they are confused with mosquito bites. We were not charged for our room -- but I am certain the staff were aware that there were bed bugs and STILL took the risk of allowing guests to stay in an infested room. We asked that the cost of our doctor bill and medicine used to treat the bites be covered by the hotel -- we sent pictures and receipts and received no response. Avoiding this will not solve the problem.

One night in Gent

I stayed for one night with my boyfriend and cousin in the superior family room. I was skeptical about booking at first because of some of the reviews I read but we had a wonderful time. We arrived early, around 12pm, but our room was ready early and they checked us in free of charge. It is such a unique, lovely hotel. Our room had a small living room, table with chairs, two single beds, and a loft with an additional bed. We loved the charm and character of the monastery turned hotel. The location was also great, less than ten minutes to the city center.

Sadly the first 'superior family room' we were offered was in desperate need of renovation. Disgusting bathroom, decor not to be believed and the smallest, softest bed mattresses I have seen since staying in youth hostels as a teen! The additional pullout bed was jut a single armchair and not a full sofa. I immediately returned to the front desk and asked if this was a superior room (wondering just what a regular one could possibly be like!) and after some shuffling of papers, quick look on the computer I was told I had paid for a better room and was given the keys to one. Thankfully this was the one I had seen on your site's photos and was satisfied enough to stay the night. It was clean, renovated and the bathroom was a zillion times better than the previous offering. There were 2 additional pull-outs up in the loft area and not just one although if you like firm mattresses you will not like the ones even in this room. The other two girls I was travelling with had already reached the conclusion that if we had not been able to switch rooms we would have driven home instead of staying the night. We checked in at around 9:00pm and by then the receptionist was running back and forth to the small bar to serve drinks so it felt a little like Fawlty Towers! The hotel itself is very quirky - a labyrinth of corridors and staircases and a beautiful chapel but could seriously use the injection of cash to upgrade the parts of the hotel that one really shouldn't be taken to!

Great location but a bit run down

A one night stay for a major sporting event, this was my first visit to the beautiful city of Ghent. My first impressions of the hotel were good, situated as it is in a monastery garden. Receptionist was welcoming and very laid back. I was told my room was on \"2nd floor room 2\" but I couldn't find it as room numbers began at 8! Eventually I noticed that each room had a plaque on the corridor wall dedicated to a saint and that the one outside of room 9 was numbered 2.2! Apart from a 1 ft crack on the door, my room was ok with very old style furniture but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The corridor was unlit apart from a dim light outside the lift. The staff were very helpful, providing me with a map of the city and ordering a taxi for me.I didn't eat in the hotel
and so cannot comment on the food. The hotel had loads of character and is well situated for exploring this delightful city.

Atmospheric and interesting

I short walk from the historic center of the city. This is a unique restoration of a monastery. The hallways are dark and atmospheric. The rooms have changed Little since last occupied by the monastic interns. As the rooms were living quarters they are large and spacious. with large owes radiators and huge windows you will be able to adjust your temperature. There are a few facilities in the hotel a small bar, which serves late into the night.

More a hostel than a business or family hotel

Dated, old monastery, old TV cathode tube not flat screen remote did not work , breakfast very expensive €17.50 for this hotel grade and what was on offer.
Problem is Ghent does not wake up until 9am for coffee shops in the centre, found just 1 very nice next to McD plus McDonalds.

Great hotel with a wonderful ambient

I loved this hotel! It has such a lovely ambience like a real monastery, with the tall rock walls covered with hiedra and full of space.
Breakfast was great and the room was very wide. They have to improve a little the heating but was not a major problem.
I do recommend it
