You could not ask for a better location! It was around the corner from the Belfry and Christmas Markets. My room was bigger than expected and quiet. The man and the woman running the place were some of the nicest people around. I lost my itinerary and they took the time to help me find out where the place one, not even having the complete name. They gave me detailed instructions making my life so much easier. I highly recommend this hotel!

Our stay at Hotel Cour St-George in Ghent was a nightmare from the moment we entered the room.

After arriving in the room, I had seen reviews on Google mentioning bedbugs, so I specifically asked the reception about this upon arrival. I was assured — very confidently — that this was impossible and “an issue from the past.” Unfortunately, that was completely untrue. After checking the bed, we found three clearly visible bedbugs in our bed.

This completely ruined the start of our holiday. We had to wash and clean all of our clothes immediately, deal with the stress of possibly bringing bedbugs with us, and find somewhere else to sleep late at night.

The woman running the place — an older Dutch lady — was extremely rude, dismissive, and unhelpful throughout the entire situation. We were offered no assistance whatsoever in finding alternative accommodation. We were essentially left on the street on our first night and had to book another hotel at double the price.

To make matters worse, we only received a refund for the room the next day, and we had to go back ourselves to get it. No apology, no accountability, and no concern for the situation they put us in.

I am honestly shocked this place is still allowed to operate.
If you value cleanliness, basic respect, or peace of mind, stay far away

The hotel and rooms were nice, and spacious, unfortunately the two single beds were full of bed bugs, i got bit sll over from my shoulders upwards. My arms hands neck and face were all bit. When i complained to the manager i was told it was a reaction to the cleaning chemicals they used. So they changed the pillows?? I slept on the towels to put a barrier between the bugs and me. It didn't stop the bites but it slowed them down a bit. I stayed in room 1. The curtains didnt close properly as the hooks were broken off the rail. My advice dont stay there !!

Not recommended

Unclean room, desperately in need of some paint to cover the marks on the ceiling and on the cracked window ledges. The floor needs replacing. Even the door was stained (I took photos). The bed was comfy. Room extremely spartan. 3-star to me means an absence of luxury, but not unclean or damaged.

Bed bugs… :(

Unfortunately found bed bugs all over our bed on the second night, but the receptionist was very lovely and offered to refund. We didnt see the Google reviews that noted the infestation, but if youre in room 43 please ask to move as there are lots of these critters :(

We also had no window or balcony access as the door was broken, which made aeration difficult.

Decent for price, but you get what you pay for. I had a renovated room which was really nice, but the rest of the hotel is under renovation. There’s no elevator and the staff didn’t seem to be in the best physical condition to help you carry your bags up. So keep that in mind.

Not safe, garbage bin across the street, odd ways to get to room through outside stairs, foul smell, had to wash stuff that was out of bag to get rid of smell, cigarette butts out the front window and garbage out bathroom window that had no screen and could potentially be accessed by others, one outlet to charge things but you had to choose to charge or have the fan plugged in, not great when you are travelling and need devices charged, would have changed hotels when we found bugs but nothing available and unsafe to leave with a child late at night in search. Only positive I have is that their staff was super helpful, understanding and kind. I wish they worked at a spot that was better. Would not recommend staying unfortunately regardless of how helpful and kind the staff was.

Unfortunately no air-conditioning and our stay was VERY warm. Also, the television didn't work at all and is not available at all in the hotel. We were given a terrific room with a beautiful view of the lovely buildings. Our room was renovated and accessible by the elevator. We enjoyed the stay all the same. The location is wonderful, the staff were wonderful and the room was wonderful (except for the no aircon). We didn't miss the television but some might.

The property has no air conditioning that we could discern. They have small portable desk fans available upon request. It’s an older property but that just adds to its charm. Neel, the manager was great! Breakfast was also very good. I recommend this hotel as long as your visit isn’t during a heat wave.

The staff wasn't friendly or helpful, and they were mostly absent. We had to call every time we were at the reception, both to check in and check out and also when we had issues. The owners live in the same building and they seem to be always at their place rather than working. The rooms are very basic and, while being recently repainted, feel very outdated. There was only one electrical socket per room to charge our devices; the bedside lamp was broken, doors and windows had terrible locks and were wiggly. Most importantly, the place felt unsafe. The front door is always open so that guests could come in without bothering the staff, and the staff is never at the reception, as I mentioned before. After checking out we left our bags at a storage room (which was just a laundry room) and when we came back, nobody was around and we couldn't wait for a long time, so we tried to open the door to the storage room - and it wasn't locked. Anything could happen to our bags! Avoid this place.

Cute and minimalist

A fantastic location close to all of the sights. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming. The only small thing was the sparseness of the room. It was the bare minimum (limited shelves, no fridge, bare walls, etc) to a room which was good given that we were out and about most of the trip but it did have a fan which was nice. There was a lot of space/room that could have been used to make the room a little more \"homey\" but it wasnt taken adavantage of. All said, for the price and location i would stay again if it was a night or two.

I’m not sure how this hotel has an 8+ rating. It was dingy and not very well maintained. While the staff were friendly and nice, not much else seemed to be worth the price I paid. The door lock was loose and hard to open (and who knows how secure), I found a bug on my bed, and the room was full of mosquitoes every night because a window wasn’t sealed properly. Not overly pleased with my stay and the accommodations were probably only one step above a youth hostel.

Located nicely in the heart of Gent but without any parking option at all. Gent hates cars anyway, so if you travel by car, don‘t go to Gent. The hotel itself doesn‘t seem that old but looks old and a bit shabby and would need a refurbishment at all corners.

Spent several days here with friends. The rooms are large but rather shabby and in need of some tlc. Also, there's nowhere to hang clothes, no wardrobe, rail or hangers and no tea or coffee making facilities in rooms. One room wasn't cleaned for 3 days and the empty shower gel dispenser wasn't refilled for the whole of our stay. Each of our rooms had a television but none worked, we just got messages saying \"no signal\" - in Spanish! Our main concern was that it was very difficult to lock and unlock our rooms due to faulty locks, the barrels kept moving around loosely their housings. It took up to 5 mins each time to lock/unlock our doors. We had to leave one room unlocked throughout our stay as the lock was impossible to use. Locking your room is a basic requirement in a hotel and a condition of our travel insurance but one staff member dismissed our concerns saying \"these locks are difficult, you just have to get the knack of them\". Another staff member spent 10 mins trying to lock the door and couldn't manage it. He agreed that they are faulty but failed to do anything about it. That's just not good enough! The fire doors on the main narrow escape route by the staircase were propped open with fire extinguishers every day of our stay. However, on the positive side, the central location is excellent, 3 mins from St Baaf's cathedral & the main town square with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance, but there are plenty of other hotels nearby as well.

VERY HELPFUL \"JACK OF ALL TRADES \"NEIL Very difficult place to find in the dark , less than a budget hotel, maybe 2 star although some work has been done in the bathrooms, breakfast average. Paint pealing off window sills ,light switches falling apart. Bathroom door nearly slides off over light switch. Very little modern tech, 2 plug points. Would not recommend unless desperate for accommodation. Good central location. I think NEIL is what this hotel is about .helpful and friendly.

Hotel was in a perfect location. Friendly & helpful staff. The room was a good size, clean with a comfortable bed. Frustrations: the lock on the door was broken and we needed to fiddle a lot with the key to get it locked/unlocked. No toiletries, TV was broken and only 1 electric socket in the room. Short cord hair dryer too far from a mirror because of the single socket (that didn’t accommodate the shape of 2 out of 3 of my adapters). Good enough place if you plan on site seeing most of the time.

The hotel could benefit from having kettles, maybe a small fridge, hand soap, shower gel etc in each room to make guests stay a bit more comfortable.
We'd received the same benefits for cheaper prices in other hotels in the region.
cleanliness could have been better. Dust along the skirting boards and in corners of the room.
If you visit in summer be sure to take a wall plug for mosquito repellent!

Location is excellent! Everyone on staff that we spoke with were extremely helpful and friendly! Room was small, but perfect for 2 people, it was clean and seemed like it just got remodeled. Okkish place..

Short break with friends in Gent. Hotel was but covered our needs. The neighbourhood was noisy day and night. Due to no aircon we had to open windows and could no sleep of the noisy.

Towels were old and worn.

outstanding location and welcoming staff; common areas are a bit tired, but our bathroom was nice and modern; breakfast options were nice; if weather is warm, you might be as well, since there is no air conditioning, but on our way out, I think I learned we could have borrowed a fan. It was an outstanding value; just be aware the property is not modern.

Not a good experience.
We booked 2 rooms and was allocated one incorrect room.
We found on our return to the hotel that they had issued key to the 'correct' guests which allowed access to strangers to the room where we had all our belongings.
The other guests then took all our belongings to reception and staff just left it all behind the counter.
Very poor staff management.
Rooms were situated on 4th floor, even with fans they were very stuffy. Found it too hot to sleep. One of party also experienced itchiness.
Staff are friendly but not professional.
Only good thing is the location.

The hotel was super basic. Cheaply furnished and decorated. The lock of our door was broken. The location in central Gent was oké but the soccer noise and drunk people at night kept us awake till 4 am.

The very friendly staff made up for some the deficiencies.
- The decor is minimalistic to barren. But clean. No toilet door, no hooks for clothes. Open shelves only.
- TV kaput!! No response to inquiry.
- No housekeeping for second day.
- Lukewarm water .
- No safe in room.
- We did not have breakfast, but looked good.
- Cheaper than many, but you get what you pay for. FYI Room #30.

Unfortunately, the location was the only good thing about this hotel. We arrived and were surprised to find out there was no heat and no hot water. They should have communicated this as it had been out for days and we would have never opted to stay there in winter when the temps were in the high 20’s degrees! There are plenty of decent hotels to stay at…….dont waste your time!

Great for the price

The hotel was very well kept and updated for the price. A few of the front desk staff were very kind and helpful and a few just didn’t want to be there. For the price, this was amazing though. It’s an excellent location, close to everything. My only issues were that there was no outlet in the room so I couldn’t charge any of my devices (there was only a USB charge but I don’t have any decided without a USBC so I had no way to charge my devices. The shower also only had cold water.

Besides that, the bed was very comfortable and the price was unbeatable for such a great location.

Overall, it was not a pleasant stay and would not be back. When we first walked into our room, it smelled absolutely horrible. One look inside the toilet and it was clear why. I had to ask the maid working on the next room to come and clean the toilet. We stayed there for 2 nights and there was no hot water for the first day and a half. The only redeemable aspect was the location, which was excellent. If those two very big mishaps had not happened, it would have been an okay stay.

Very welcoming hotel, spacious, clean, historic bldg charm & stone throw away to the center. Super helpful hotel manager “Neel”who speaks 4 languages and really helped us a llot with our booking/credit card issues with other hotel in our next destination. No lift or elevators. Clogged toilet showers and sink. Though room we stayed looked newly renovated. It does not have cabinets to place clothes, no fridge,no tv. Amenities supposed to be included were not provided. Staff said , they are still working on it . It wld have been nice if management mentioned that other bldg has no lift, amenities not complete yet bec. It’s has just been newly renovated. At least I know what to expect
