This is an exceptional property! It offers gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean; and evokes the splendor of the past … As the original home was built in the 1880’s. My wife and I agreed that our room was the most spectacular one we’ve ever enjoyed! But you pay the price for such luxury. Staying at Seven Gables is like being in a dream!

Beautiful Victorian property. Champagne at check in was a nice touch. There is a courtesy cocktail hour and evening cookie hour in case you needed a reason to enjoy the shared space. Room had a seating area with a panoramic view of the ocean - perfect for enjoying the sunset. Great breakfast with views and excellent location for restaurants nearby too.

Outstanding. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Yes the hotel is older and there is no elevator. So make sure your suitcase is light enough to carry up a narrow flight of stairs. BUT, the property is fantastic. Wine or champagne reception, a 100 million dollar view of the ocean, waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach made this a spot my wife and I will travel to again and again. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had. Well worth it.

Of the three rooms we in which we have stayed at Seven Gables, the Garden Room was our least favorite. It is comfortably appointed like the others but is situated at ground level. Also, the bathroom ceiling is low, which was manageable but not ideal (husband is 6’7”).

This has become a destination spot for us. We look forward to the wonderful views of the waves crashing on the rocks. Beautiful location and hotel. I am glad they have kept the Victorian decor. Other hotels have not, and it goes against the point of staying at a place like this.

My wife and I stayed in one of the rooms with ocean view. It was perfect. The whole experience felt more like an Airbnb / bed and breakfast guesthouse. The appliances were of high quality, and the bed was very comfortable. With the view from our room, waking up in the morning never felt so good. One of the most memorable stays in our book.

This property is situated directly across from the ocean and beach, with several restaurants conveniently located within walking distance. The building's architecture is quite beautiful, both inside and out. The room offers excellent insulation, as I did not hear any noise from the adjacent room.

Breakfast is included, though it is fairly standard. They typically offer two hot options, such as potatoes and scrambled eggs, alongside fruits and various breads. The breakfast room itself is stunning, providing a full view of the ocean.

We stayed in the Julia and Mariposa rooms, both of which offer a complete ocean view from within. Each time we visited, the rooms were exceptionally clean and the beds were comfortable.

One detail to note is that daily room service is not provided, but you are always welcome to request any items you may need. The ladies at the front desk, Jene and Claudia, are very helpful and pleasant.

The view from any point in our room was amazing. The pictures posted on the web for this room are 100 percent accurate. Very clean. Easy parking on the street. Everything is in walking distance, restaurants, shops, bakery, even the Monterey aquarium is in walking distance (30 min walk alongside the Ocean). Walking and bike path right across the street, next to the ocean for miles in both direction. Breakfast was great. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. The only negative is that the B&B is right at Ocean Blvd, which is quite a busy street during daytime hours, so it can be noisy. But at night traffic slows down.

This was our 4th stay at the 7 Gables Inn and we stayed in the Rocky Shores (RKS) room located on the top floor of the Beach House building, 37 steps up from the sidewalk to our room. The RKS room provides a complete panoramic and unobstructed view of Monterey Bay and Lover's Point.

One window in room has fog between panes making it difficult to see out and since this is an expensive ocean view it’s a little disappointing. But the property was gorgeous as always. Would be nice to have a normal egg option for breakfast instead of quiches and the like. TY.

Beautiful property. Ocean views. Quaint and quiet. Enjoyed waking up and walking across the street to the Oceanside path that goes for miles and miles. Easy walk to cannery row. Great restaurant at lovers point. Walked everywhere. It was a 10 out of 10. No phones or tv in the rooms which was fine with us. Sat with windows open listening to the ocean and having a glass of wine and snacks and listened to music. They also have complimentary wine from 4 to 6 every evening in the main house sitting rooms overlooking the bay. Also complimentary breakfast. Although we didn’t make it to that. Also the bed was so comfortable. Will be the place we stay when we go back.

We were very excited about this getaway, and this establishment certainly lived up to our expectations. We stayed in the Julia room, which offered an absolutely stunning view of the ocean through its large windows. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, with one minor exception: there were no refreshments provided during wine time. In our experience at other bed and breakfasts in Pacific Grove, cheese and other refreshments are typically offered with wine. Additionally, the room we occupied did not have a refrigerator, although a small cooler was kindly provided to accommodate our needs. The architectural details of this building are truly outstanding. We absolutely loved our stay at Seven Gables and anticipate returning in the near future.

This was my second time staying at Seven Gables and it did not disappoint. We stayed in the Ocean Mist room - it was palatial, we had a gorgeous view of the ocean, and the bed was soo comfy. I love all the finishing touches of this spot, from the welcome glass of champagne, the nightly wine and cookie hours, and the delicious buffet breakfast each morning - all included. This hotel is on the coastal walking path that goes right into Monterey or up to the lighthouse (great spot to watch the sunset) and its a quick walk into pacific grove, close to great restaurants and some cute shops. Staying here is always a treat.

Really beautiful Victorian inn on the ocean with a spectacular view of Monterey bay. We were in the china point room on the first floor, sitting slightly above a small garden. It’s small but quaint with a strong shower. Woke up to gorgeous sunrises over the big bay, rocky shore and pine trees through panoramic picture windows while lying on the bed. The public areas are nicely furnished. The grounds are immaculate. Street parking is easy. Staff is competent. Some are friendlier and more cheerful than others. All need a little training in looking at people when they talk to them instead of looking down or doing work which makes guests feel unimportant. The breakfast was just ok. The breakfast room had incredible views. But the food was average, which was surprising because they do make and bake some of it onsite. They need better recipes and ingredients but I think the corporate owner and current management have a cost down mentality. Same problem with the late afternoon (4 to 6 on the dot) wine. The room has great views. Check off the box for marketing but the wine itself was lower end and there was nothing to nosh with it. I know charcuterie boards are expensive but you could at least have Costco potato chips. Suggestion to guests: go to Trader Joe’s and buy your own happy hour snacks and share them with other disappointed guests. The cookies (bar, never had real cookies) come at 7 pm and run out within the hour. Nice inn but with some extras could be exceptional.

A welcoming greeting with a glass of bubbles. Room was small but well situated. Nice to have tea, water and coffee in the room. Bed was too soft for us.
Their wine happy hour was delayed but that was okay because the wine was not that good.
We had a nice view from our room. Definitely recommend.
The parlor and other sitting areas of the Inn are beautiful. Gorgeous furniture, art work and treasures to admire.
Breakfast was plentiful. Fruit, eggs, cereal etc… although vegetarian.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The freshly baked cookies in the evening a delicious treat!

It’s a beautiful location, overall the service and staff was very nice, but the rooms are way too small for the price tag. There is no fridge for cold water, no TV in the room, the hallways smelled like curry, also if you need anything you have to go down to the lobby to get it yourself. For that price tag way overpriced. Also view is great but everyone can see into your room, you can’t enjoy the view and have privacy.

Bed is super soft, and my handicap husband and I were given an upstairs room. He had a hard time on the stairs.

No pets allowed with no air conditioning, so we slept with the windows open. Second floor, we didn’t think anything of it, Until our second night I woke up to a cat walking across my legs in bed. Staff said it was the neighbors cat, but gave us no warning that a cat could get into our room (glad my husband did not have an allergic reaction.)

View and locations is amazing, this property is just not for us, I would not visit it again.

It was beautiful, but definitely made for more of just couples and not families despite having two rooms. My kids and I are trying to take a shower at the same time and the hot water ran out very quickly. There were spiders in the rooms, although not much and aside from that, it was very, very clean. Parking was very annoying. There’s only four spaces up at the front and then at the rest is street parking. It is beautiful and peaceful, but do not recommend it for families.

Beautiful Property, But Disappointing Hospitality

The location and setting of Seven Gables Inn are undeniably stunning—serene ocean views, peaceful surroundings, and a beautifully maintained Victorian-style property that feels like a step back in time. The charm of the building and attention to historical detail are truly impressive.

However, our experience with the staff left a lot to be desired. Over the course of our three-day stay, every interaction with the front desk was cold and unwelcoming. None of the receptionists greeted us with a smile or made any effort to be friendly or accommodating. It was especially disheartening considering the high price point and the fact that this is a hospitality business.

A particularly upsetting incident occurred when I cut my foot on a sharp edge of a Victorian side table in the lobby. It was bleeding quite a bit, and when I asked for help, the receptionist simply told me they didn’t have any band-aids—offering no concern or assistance.

Upon checkout, we were asked to drop our keys without even a simple thank-you or goodbye. For a boutique inn that markets itself on charm and service, this level of disengagement was disappointing.

While we were aware there wouldn’t be daily housekeeping, the lack of warmth or effort from the staff throughout our stay made the experience feel impersonal and uninviting. Unfortunately, I’d rate the service experience below a 1.

Beautiful old house with amazing views of the ocean and bay! Unfortunately our room had a bad musty smell and even with airing, every time we entered the room it hit us. No bellman so my husband had already carried our bags up the stairs.The pretty bed hangings looked so faded. Our shower needed grout to cover the black moldy areas. Don’t expect to feel pampered as no room cleaning/refreshing service. If you want more filtered water, take your bottle downstairs to be refilled. Ask for anything you need at the desk. Coffee (other than self service bag coffee) was only available in the dining room from 8 am til 10 am with breakfast. Starbucks is close by if you can’t wait. From 4 to 6 pm wine and bar cookies were served in the living rooms where the view was beautiful.
Just before I left on my third morning they texted accusing me of having a dog in room because a maid had heard a dog. No dogs allowed except service dogs. No television to have on and I was sitting quietly in my room, so they should have checked more before accusing me of having a dog.
The breakfast staff were great and very helpful. The food selection was large and the food was very good. The breakfast and breakfast room views did not disappoint! The garden areas were small but very pretty!

The property is beautiful. We had paid over what we normally pay for a room to get a boutique experience with a view for our 40th anniversary. While on vacation, I had an accident and broke my ankle in 3 places. I called hotel from emergency room to see if there was an elevator, there was not. I asked to be moved to a lower floor(we were on 2nd floor), they were full. It was late and we had a 6hr drive back home, so we had to stay. I made it up the stairs and down on my bum, in a lot of pain!!! What was most surprising, no one from hotel offered to see if there was anything we needed or were we ok or had we made it to our room. For a $800 a night hotel, I do feel that the customer service could have been better regarding this .
The hotel is beautiful, just don’t break a bone, they will not be able to help in an emergency.

I stayed at this hotel about 34 years ago, before they did a lot of expansion.The hotel is beautiful and the room was very pretty and it was oceanfront. The problem with oceanfront at this hotel is that the road in front of the hotel is extremely loud all the way through midnight. Also, I paid a little bit more for oceanfront with a fireplace, and it was a fake mantle with an electric light that looks like a fire. I just feel like this place is so nice, it would’ve been better to either advertise that that’s what it is or don’t do it at all. Many places in this area have actual fireplaces and I’m sure that there are rooms in this hotel that have actual fireplaces, but this looked very cheap and it really was nothing more than a light.

A lovely, picturesque, Victorian boutique hotel with the most amazing location and incredible views of Monterey Bay from the room. You notice the attention to every detail in the interior decor and the manicured gardens all around the property. Wonderful staff and service, great breakfast with healthy choices included. My husband and I enjoyed walking the coastal trail from Lover’s Point to historic Cannery Row and back to Pacific Grove, breathing the fresh air, watching the otters and other wildlife and lush vegetation around the path and stopping every few steps for yet another picture with incredible views. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel when visiting the Monterey area.
