Hotel Monasterio was perfectly located to attend a wedding at Convento Santo Domingo (less than a block away). Upon arrival, we had an amazing meal delivered to the room (could not be put on the room tab). Staff was kind and helpful. The room was roomy with a seating area, plenty of outlets (for steamer and hair iron), as well as mirrors. I'm not sure whether there was AC, but it had a good fan which was sufficient for this time of year. There was also a fireplace and firewood outside (which we did not use). For the price and location, I was very pleased.

All of the reviews I had read about this place said the staff was amazing but I found quite the opposite. When I arrived everyone looked at me like ……hello? As if i was inconveniencing them by even being there. Every question I asked had to be translated because I dont speak Spanish and they just always seemed quiet annoyed by this. On my first night I went to ahve dinner at the restaurant in the hotel and they told me at 5:30pm they were done serving food AND drinks at 6. So even though it was 5:30 they wouldn’t even serve me a drink…6pm is a crazy time to be closed for food and drink so that was very disappointing,. And again, they weren’t giving this information in a nice way, they were annoyed I was even asking to be served. I know it’s a 3 start hotel but the staff was not kind or welcoming at alllllll. There was RARELY a receptionist at the front desk and if there was she was annoyed to answer questions. The ONLY thing I appreciated about this place was how quiet it was. I had friends at other hotels/hostels and they couldn’t sleep from dogs barking/ couples having sex etc. It was very quiet to sleep and had a very cold fan and comfortable bedding.

At first my family and I really liked the hotel, it looked clean with comfortable beds and pillows. Friendly staff, parking right on the back, close restaurants.

Nice quaint little hotel, but could never get the wifi to work typical of Guatemala I suppose, not complaining too loud that's a 1st world problem. The tub wasn't as advertised, also probably a first world problem. Was no way a person could sit down and bathe in that tub and it had residue in it every morning from? OK for a shower however.

This was a sleepless stay as the hotel staff were making loud noises throughout the night, including talking loudly and laughing outside my room and resulting in me unable to sleep.

This was just what we were looking for -- private, quiet, clean, comfortable, convenient. Staff were great, helpful and friendly. Although there is no restaurant on-site, there are lots of cafes and restaurants in close walking distance. We'd love to go back!

It’s fine but bring earplugs just in case. On the first night, we heard some animals fighting and it sounded like they were being slaughtered. Happened multiples times that night. Turns out it was stray cats fighting on the roof.

We spent 5 days in the largest room which accommodates 2 adults and 3 kids (12, 9 and 8) comfortably. It is very clean, and the people are super easy going. We even asked them if they’d do our laundry and they did! There is a restaurant across the street and a little convenience store too. It is very well located. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Clean and comfortable hotel, room is small but perfect and facing the central patio. Patio has chairs and hamacs. Bathroom also clean and small but perfect if you are on a budget, the lovely people at the front door will guide you where to park and are super helpful.

The hotel was charming and had character with rooms opening onto a central courtyard in beautiful Antigua. Everything is a little dated, and very few of the staff speak English, which was a problem on occasion, and limited advice that I might have received . However they were extremely friendly . There are plenty of places nearby for breakfast and dinner , but no food available on site. Rates were extremely reasonable.

The hotel room was spacious, but the glass on the windows only covered 3/4 up- there was a gap of a 1/2 of the window open to the outside garden. So when people would smoke, the smoke came into my room. When people say in the garden and would sing after 11pm, they woke me up and the. They were up before 6 am making noise as well- the water was like warm and not much pressure. The staff was accommodating making sure I had pretty of bottle water!

We would stay here again. It is a smaller place, only 7 rooms but looks larger with its nicely decorated courtyard. In the room we were in, with 2 Queen beds and a private shower, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was big and the shower had great hot water.- you often do not find that in Antigua! It is closer to the entrance of Antigua making it easier and faster to arrive and depart the town.

The property has a great location. Having said that, it’s good for just going to sleep. Hot water is available sometimes (during our stay). No A/C but a vent. Bathroom is very tiny. No parking, you have to pay a private one or leave it on the street with luck. You can listen to the noises made in the contiguous rooms. It’s a two star property. On the positive side, is very clean and you get what you paid for. Staff is very very friendly and they accept pets. I would stay again only if there was nothing else available.

Simple local hotel in a great location. The patio is lovely and the \"local breakfast\" is delicious. The staff were helpful and kind. I ended up in the family room (three big beds) because it was the last room left. More than I needed, but the bed was comfy, and I'd stay there again.

Really like the location of this hotel, is close to the entrance and exit of Antigua Guatemala, you can park your car in front of the hotel, i traveled with 2 mountain bikes and they let me park them inside the hotel, we stay 2 nights but i think you might need a week to know all the places you can visit in Antigua, Guatemala, Restaurants i recommend Kombu Ramen, Guatelaria, Epicure just to name a few. My wife, mom and kids really enjoy this trip and we really recommend this hotel once you park your car, you can walk everywhere and won't need it until you check out.

For the price, the facilities are ok. BUT, I stayed there on a Saturday night, there was a Band that played until Midnight. Everyone can hear it, it was a few feet away from the rooms. When the band stopped playing, the bar/resto kept playing loud music with the patrons screaming. They expect everyone to not sleep at all. I finally slept around 5 am. Awful.

The garden is nice, but basic- as are the rooms. It's not a swish place to stay, but it's clean, comfortable and the staff are happy to help with things like travel and food advice. They even went out of their way to make sure I got a car at 3 am to get me to the airport in Guatemala City, and at a good price. The location is very good, too.

The hotel room was pleasant and perfect for a couple nights stay. The rooms opens right into the courtyard. Friday night and Saturday morning there were events in the courtyard with very loud music. This was very disturbing as the sounds poured into our room. If I had known about this, I would not have booked this hotel. The front desk was not helpful in setting up tours or shuttles, I expected more from them. The \"amenities\" listed on their page are not included in the room. Everything is for an extra charge. Again, if I had known that I would not have booked this room.

The music blasting on a speaker in the courtyard. Granted it was Friday evening and they did turn it down as soon as I asked them to.

Great stay. Staff was super friendly and hospitable. I arrived to Antigua in the morning and they let me leave my backpack there while I toured the city. When I returned around 11:30am/12pm to grab something from my bag they actually said I could check into my room because it was ready. Breakfast was delicious (desayuno Chapin). About a 10 minute walk to Central Park and a 15 minute walk to the Arch. The Jade museum is also right across the street from the hotel, that was nice as well. Overall a great stay, will be back.
