There are serious problems with the elevators. They stop at every single floor regardless if there are people there or not.
We did find one of the world’s largest cockroaches roaming around our room and also saw cockroaches in the dining area.
The air conditioner in our room sounded like a diesel generator and was at 70 dB slamming 24/7 and made it very hard to sleep. Almost like a vacuum cleaner.
There should be staff to wipe up all of the people vomiting from over drinking around the pool throughout the day because it kept continually happening. Also, lots of vomit on the seats.
The service level and staff were fantastic
Getting and returning towels ends up being a giant chore
The buffet food is a cattle herd slop line. Zero à la cart food options available.
Most of the alcohol available is equivalent to bum/homeless liquor in plastic bottles in the United States.

An awesome experience as usual, Riu has never disappointed me that's the reason we keep coming back. The only thing is that this time we stayed at the family suite room 3146 and the WiFi and cellphone signal weren't working at all. Once we got to main level 💯 %

1) Three Mexican bands occupy the beach from noon to 8pm every day. They continuously play resulting in nothing but noise for foreign visitors. There is no opp for peace, at pool or beach.

3) we stayed 5 days, only twice hotel staff answered room phone. On most occasion it would ring with no one answering or someone would pick and hang right away. Meaning, forget room service

The hotel was great. All the staff is very helpful & the majority of the food at the buffets were delicious. The waiters are also very nice. The beach & pools were awesome. There were a few cons but the pros outweigh them. The phone signal was not so great & the WiFi was not the strongest & it was difficult to connect. Plus one of the TV remotes didn’t work because it was not for the correct one. Thankfully the only LG remote worked for both tv’s. And also the only channel to watch the World Cup games weren’t passing all the games. You needed Vix account but then again the WiFi signal was weak & the cell phone signal was slow. But overall we had a great time. I would definitely go back in the future.

I didn’t like that the pool closes so early. I didn’t like that the music is so loud when you are trying to relax. Everything else was great. Good food and always available to grab a bite. Staff was very friendly everywhere. Clean property.

Room was older, but ok, room a/c was weak, 90% of the hotel did not have A/C, they have fans throughout the hotel, it was horribly humid. I asked the hotel desk if I could leave a deposit for a fan to use in my room, they said they don't offer fans, but I could purchase one at Walmart. LOL. Elevators are crazy SLOW! Prepare to wait. Cleaning room ladies were Great!! The toilet seat was loose, the room coffee machine did not work, I asked the hotel to fix. It was never repaired. The tequila bottle in the room was empty when we checked in, they brought a new bottle the next day. (inconvenient) The adult pool lets kids access the pool area with their parents, so you hear crying. Not truly an adult pool area, and the second pool bar tenders by the outdoor restaurant are extremely sarcastic, especially one older man that walks with a limp. Pool water was foggy. Mexican show was Amazing, I don't know how the dancers can deal with the humidity because the show is outdoors. They need large swamp coolers or fans for guests. And closing the checkout is not in the same area as check in, no signs telling you this. We found the check out. When checking out the supervisor Eric was extremely rude and unprofessional. We were missing one of the pool towel cards. I explained to him that it was probably left in the room. He wanted to charge 300 pesos, I argued with him I'm not trying to steal towels, Eric said just leave, & he needed to cut our bracelets & rudely told us to leave the hotel...

If I’d never been anywhere else, perhaps I wouldn’t know how good an all-inclusive in Mexico could be. But I have experienced much, much, much, much better, and this one hailed in comparison to all of them.
First of all, aside from the Mexican restaurant, the food was horrible. I’ve never struggled to find food I like in huge buffets like theirs until coming here. Even the chocolate chip cookies were bad, something I didn’t think was possible. There also isn’t room service.
A few bars had Smirnoff and Bacardi, but otherwise, all of the alcohol is off-brand or come from cartons. Another issue with the bar is hygiene. Because this facility allows people to bring refillable drink containers, and the bartenders use the same stirring utensils for all of us, we are all swapping spit.
The biggest issue for me was the elevators which often stopped on every floor. That wouldn’t be a problem if there was air conditioner in them, I wasn’t on the 24th floor, and the compartments were tiny, jammed with other visitors.
The property is pretty, but it is in need of updates and smelled like urine or cleaning products in several places. For example, in the public bathrooms, I was grateful that they were clean, but the toilet brushes are kept out in uncovered canisters, containing very strong-smelling chemicals. And while enjoying cocktails in the pool, the cement stunk like pee. Not to mention the pool itself, which was constantly cloudy and filthy.

El hotel está muy bonito y muy grande tienen mucho entretenimiento ,pero lo único que no nos gustó fue en el bar Pool porque ay mucha gente y se apilan y uno no puede ordenar las bebidas porque además los bar tenders se agarran jugando con las mujeres que ya están borrachas y uno tiene que esperar un buen rato hasta que se le asercan a preguntar que va a querer uno yo pienso que ahí necesitan unos 3 o 4 bars tenders y eso era en el bar Pepe’s y que sean formales los que trabajen ahí que no jueguen .

The outside areas and pools are very nice and well maintained, which was definitely a positive part of the stay. However, the rooms are very old and in need of updating. The beds were also quite uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. While the property has great outdoor amenities, the guest rooms did not meet my expectations and could benefit from significant improvements

First night we were there we found a worm on the bed the food it self is not good at all I mean that is the reason people get the all inclusive to save on food but we ended up almost every day getting outside food the pools where always super hot and there wasn’t much to do overall. The rooms we had were about 10 min walk from everything. Also the hotel itself is very far from the malecon so you have to take like a 25 min car ride to explore everywhere else. Overall I think you should save your money and get something better for an more affordable price.

We just got back from our week long stay at Riu Emerald Bay. We had 3 rooms and 5 people. I would not stay here again. To start the elevators were always down and there’s 22 floors! The room cards always were getting demagnetized even when careful. The food was ok but not memorable. We found the far buffet in the main building the best food out of all of them. When it came to booking our à la carte dinners the app was atrocious! Three of us trying to book and only one could. We went to the front desk and they kept saying to use the app and it was our error. We asked for a manager to which the lady said “that’s me” and smiled. We said forget it then. We had phone calls the first couple of days during siesta time and when I would answer they couldn’t hear me and I could barely hear them - their phone lines are crappy! Finally a lady named Anna Maria stepped in the save the day with the à la cart dinners and we had Bamboo and Las Gaviotas. We were horrified that this booking was a buffet at Bamboo. The food was not good and made me sick the next day. The Italian one was great. Service in all restaurants / buffets was perfect! Excellent staff there. The resort was clean. We’ve stayed at numerous big resorts before but never a RIU - we will not be back to one again. Mazatlan was beautiful and we recommend the old zone to stay in. Check out the observatory and the aquarium.

All of the staff was very attentive and welcoming. From the front desk staff, cleaning staff, waiters, and bar tenders, everyone would go out of their way to make sure you were taken care of. Any time we had a special request, they always made an effort to animate us. Room was upgraded at no charge had a amazing ocean view. Jacuzzi at the spa was disappointing as the water was cold... not 100 degrees as advertised. The spa prices were crazy expensive. The bar tenders and wait staff were amazing, very happy, very friendly. Front desk staff were not super friendly. Nexus tour booker Alex was amazing definitely recommend, even checked back to see how our excursion was and to say good bye and helped us to our airport shuttle.

I stayed at the Hotel Riu Emerald Bay with my fiancé for 8 days. Up until the 5th day, we were having an amazing vacation — but unfortunately our experience took a horrible turn.
While we were out, someone entered our room and stole $1,500 USD cash from my wallet, which was inside my purse and packed in my luggage. We didn’t realize it until the next day because we had stayed in the room that evening and didn’t go anywhere.

The “band” playing live music was unbearably loud to the point where our party couldn’t have a conversation. It went on for hours and hours daily. Hotel was great! Food was awesome. Staff was friendly and super accommodating. Hotel is big so there is some walking required. They have a pool that has a ramp which is great for people with disabilities. Restaurants do require reservations which are encouraged to do on the hotel app but it's a little difficult especially if you are traveling with many people with different room numbers, but food is well worth it. Beach is great. I love banda so for our party it was great to have the music playing. Over all would definitely recommend.

The beach is spectacular, the rooms were clean, the staff was great… however we asked for two beds (expecting two queen or double beds) and when we got there, the two double beds were literally attached. When we spoke to the front desk, they told us that we DID get the correct type of room (there were 3 adults staying in the room so it was a bit uncomfortable and inconvenient) Be expected to wait for the elevators.. but the view of the ocean from the balcony is second to none! Lots of places to eat within the resort. All in all, we were pleased!

The only downside for our stay was the elevator system. The size of it and frequency that it was available was frustrating some times. If it was possible, it would be nice if certain elevators only went to certain floors (2-10, 11-22), with all being able to go to lobby and dining floor.

This is a big resort with a lot of people. They have over 1000 rooms. Be prepared to walk a lot to get to your room. Pool chairs around adult only pools fill up very fast and are reserved early. It is a great value for the price. You can’t swim in the ocean here as it’s too dangerous. Also lots of jelly stings when people did go in up to their knees. Food was acceptable but the app for reservations in the à la carte is useless as they are always booked up. Room was fine - beds and pillows aren’t great but it was okay.

The staff were amazing, always treated us wonderfully. However, there was very limited gluten free options. My meals consisted mainly of fresh fruit, plain salad fixings with no salad dressing that was gluten free, and French fries. We booked the Asian à la cart telling them I was a celiac. All I got was plain white rice and a plain chicken skewer, while the other 7 people of our party got wonderful options. They knew ahead of time that a celiac was going to be there. They cooked everything with soya sauce containing wheat. Even some plain stir fried vegetables would have been a nice addition to my plate. The adult pool was disgustingly dirty. One afternoon a drunk man threw up in the pool and they didn’t evacuate the pool to at least clean up the filth. There was cigar butts around the pool that had been there several days, the pile just kept growing daily. It was very disappointing. The RIU app was great for getting our fridge and coffee stocked. They were there within half an hour.

It didn't have much for shows or entertainment and there wasn't alot to do around the resort. Just enough to keep you happy and satisfied. Mazatlan is different than other places in Mexico but we felt warm and safe and happy we went.
