We stayed for 2 nights on our way back to the UK with our dog. It’s a lovely old chateau a few miles outside Beaune. The staff were incredibly helpful, the breakfast was great and there were spacious grounds for walking the dog. We parked easily in the grounds and generally found it very relaxing. We will return.

Beautiful property, peaceful, great location to visit Beaune and the vineyards around.
Bedroom was smaller than expected and quite dark, so this was a little disappointing. The area around the swimming pool needs a little bit of maintenance.
With that said, it was overall a great stay.

We stayed at this property for several days and were easily able to explore the area in all directions. The staff were lovely.
The Chateau is not as far out in the country as it looks on the website. Parking is easy and the grounds are large and beautiful.
Recommend strongly.

We visit Beaune 5 times per year as we live in France.This property listed as a 4 star hotel is very run down, no restaurant a 10 minute drive from Beaune and nothing nearby.We paid €300 for one night and it was a gloomy, depressing experience.Tjere are many better choices in Beaune so avoid this overpriced and shabby hotel

Good stopover- would stay again

Very happy with this attractive authentic chateau in a very quiet situation easy to locate a short distance from the motorway. We didn’t walk around the grounds or see the pool as it was inclement weather. The room was immaculate albeit very small but it was the least expensive but next time I would upgrade to have a separate bathroom. For an overnight stop it was fine - breakfast was adequate apart from the lack of fresh coffee-only a machine and the coffee from that was not the best. I think it might have contained powdered sweet milk. We were booked into a very nice nearby restaurant so the lack of a restaurant wasn’t a problem- good secure parking.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this hotel. Our room was one with a jetted tub, which was fabulous. We had a sitting room and a bedroom, which was spacious and tastefully decorated with antiques. Totally worth the upgrade.

Hotel Challenges was the perfect home base for exploring Burgundy. You will need a car, as the hotel is a mile outside Beaune.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The first day they gave us maps and suggested restaurants in the area. Breakfast was great, lots of choices.

We used the pool once and found it crowded, but it was clean and well-maintained.

The best thing about this hotel was the resident tabby cat. Very regal and happy to be petted.

Really beautiful chateau. Staff were all very helpful and welcoming. Lovely gardens and pool. We travelled with our large, bouncy dog and it was perfect as there was big field next to the chateau that we could let him run around. No complaints at all about this lovely property and would stay again.

This place is a hidden gem. Near the A6 Autoroute, but isolated from any noise. Wonderful pool, clean and modern rooms. The owners were so nice. We had a charcuterie board that was outstanding.
Overall,a great way to end our two week stay in France!!!!

The property is a very lovely historic building. Staff are friendly and helpful. We had a suite with a small balcony and inside is really clean and decor is fancy. The age of the building didn’t take away any modern amenities. The only thing to keep in mind is the property is on the outskirt of Beaune, not easy to walk. A car/taxi is needed to get around. But otherwise definitely recommend as a quiet lovely stay outside of Beaune.

Really lovely place. Gorgeous setting and building and was extremely comfortable and good access to town / wineries etc.

The staff was super helpful in setting up dinner reservations and wine tours. 10/10.

My only tiny gripe is that the wifi was not very good in my room, and not great right next to the router either (near the bar). I was trying to download a spotify playlist and some podcasts for the road and it was very slow.

Would absolutely stay again and appreciate the beautiful building and helpful staff.

The hotel area is very nice! The garden is beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The pool is too small. The rooms are small and have no light (not from outside and not from lighting). We had family room with double beds that were too small and very uncomfortable. The air conditioning did not cool just made some noise. Maybe the conditions in the bungalows (that looks new) are better? I have no idea. So, despite the lovely staff and the calm, green area I will not choose again to stay there if I'll be in Burgundy again.

I really wanted to like this hotel. It is well placed for a one night stop over when going to or from the UK for winter or summer activities in the alps. Friendly service and clean, but it really needs some investment in its ground floor reception and bar.

Disappointed that our room was not in the Chateau as displayed on the Hotels.com website, but was in the hotel annex - a much smaller room with steps to the bathroom/toilet. While the bed was comfortable and all the facilities worked fine, we felt misled and sad that we did not get our expected stay in the Chateau. One other observation is that while the hotel provided a breakfast on request, it had no facilities for evening meals, though it did offer a list of recommended restaurants in Beaune - a 2-3km drive, so late arrivals may find this disappointing. Fortunately we arrived by 4pm so had time to drive into beautiful Beaune, where the town centre had a wide choice of good restaurants.

In general we were happy with our stay in this wonderful French hotel even though our room was very small and located on the second floor without elevator. No-one helped us carry our heavy luggages. Also a cat was seating on the seats in the common area which is no big deal unless you have cats hair allergies.

Beautiful hotel in a tranquil pretty village

We had a lovely stay. The room was comfortable and large enough for me and 3 children. The pool is small but pretty and good for a decent swim. The breakfast was outstandingly good both choice and quality of everything. The staff were helpful and kind.

Good location close to Beaune but a very tired property. Bathroom tiling and fittings very old and long overdue for replacement. Most of the carpet treads on the stair carpet were worn out and UK health & safety rules wouldn't have allowed them. 2 nd floor bedroom but no lift.
Very helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Helpful list of local restaurants provided as no restaurant in the hotel.

Peaceful Oasis in Burgundy

After having spent a week in Paris, we were ready for a quiet and peaceful stay in Beaune. We were not disappointed. Chateau de Challenges is located in a very remote location 1.5 kms from town and is like being separated from the outside world.

Great stopover in Beaune on the way to Paris

This hotel exudes charm and is all you would expect from a French chalet. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It has great grounds, which make you think you are somewhere in the countryside, rather than close to the town and some busy roads. It is very easy to reach from those roads, we came from south and found it with no trouble. The only downside is there is no elevator, so if stairs are an issue it would be wise to avoid. Although the staff are very happy to help you take the luggage up those stairs. Breakfast was also very nice, the traditional French continental style. There's also a quirky bar where you can order drinks and tapas food.

Nice stay in French Countryside

The Chateau was very charming place to stay. Our room, that was near the pool and away from the main house, was immaculate and very comfortable. It looked to be recently remodeled but kept the decor off the main house. The staff was very friendly and took the extra time to thoroughly answer our questions whether about our stay or things to do in the area. Location is a good home base for touring the Burgundy wine region.

Quiet retreat at old chateau

We booked this hotel to enjoy the quiet of a non-urban setting. Check-in was quick and easy. Front desk staff were very helpful, including finding a softer pillow for a more comfortable sleep. Our room was in the out building overlooking a very nice pool. Sadly the weather (and our interest in looking around the region) led to our not using the pool. Room was quite large as was the bathroom. Our room was on ground floor so we had nice patio for snacking and sitting outdoors. Breakfast was included and was quite good. The hotel was about fifteen minutes by car from Beaune, but there were at least 3 good restaurants very nearby. Hotel staff were very helpful in making dinner reservations. Because we were staying four days, hotel provided us passes for a tour and tasting of wines at Chateau Pommard (100 Euro value).

Beautiful chateau just outside of Beanue. Our room was simple but more than comfortable. The best thing about this hotel is the beautiful grounds and the building itself. Such an idyllic setting. But just keep in mind that the hotel is outside of Beaune so you would need to have a car to stay here, or get taxis to and from Beanue.

Very quaint chateau, warm approachable staff, and a renovation that maintains the character while making the stay feel more modern. The host graciously set up a dinner reservation for us, and the pool was refreshing.

I only wish our room, albeit an entry-level one, was a little bigger. There was barely room to maneuver around the bed, let alone lay out our suitcases.

need a car if you're staying here as this gem is just outside of city centre
also could get there by bike
we had a lovely stay in a small room (Madeleine room). the Internet is only accessible sitting outside the main building. we didn't use the pool but all was easily accessible.
plenty of parking and very quiet. a very restful stay
in town I recommend the hospice or hotel dieu and visiting the cellars of Joseph drouhin. bought some excellent wines there
for dinner take up the chateau's recommendations and book dinner early at the Michelin places. the Bistro attached to the gourmand restaurant was also excellent. both are maybe a 4 minute drive from the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay and Francoise was thoroughly welcoming and attended to all our needs. His bubbly nature, humour and great advice on vineyards and places to visit made our stay extra special. The property is also really charming and well decorated. We arrived really early morning and although check in is in the afternoon, Francoise let us check in earlier and let us choose our rooms. We had the Beige room which is located upstairs with a sizeable bathroom. The other room on this level was not occupied so we had lots of privacy. We also enjoyed the dinner cooked by Francoise and enjoyed the company greatly with his chat over dinner. A definite great place to stay with the personal touch. Also great location between Saint-Emilion and Bordeaux.

Great Find near Beaune

Charming hotel with a pool and large, well-equipped rooms. Breakfast was great, and we were able to eat on the lawn. The immediate area isn't all that great, but it's only 8 minutes or so to Beaune, which is a lovely town, and wineries are a short drive further. Staff was great. We wish we had more time here, as we highly recommend the hotel and area.

Great Stay in Beaune

This was a great alternate to downtown. Thought the staff was terrific, particulary the woman that worked the desk during the pm shift. She was very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere, loved the lanterns placed out on the tables in front at night, nice touch. The breakfast was very nice. Our room was very small but we did book the lowest rate category and did not spend much time in the room anyway. Would definitely go back and probably upgrade the room type the next time. Felt like you were staying in someones home. nice experience.

Great Chateau but Crappy Service Philosophy

This chateau is off the track a bit - a good 2 miles out of the center of beaune and not that walkable so you'll need a car. you cross the motorway and worry that you made a bad choice but then you enter the chateau's property and it's a lovely quiet respite with great rooms, funky showers and a pool. Unfortunately you are greeted with a long list of things you cannot do - like eat or drink on these lovely tables outside of the chateau - which i sort of understand as their own bar is trying ot make money, but they send you to a picnic table in the parking lot if you want to eat your own food - which seems a lot like spitting in your face. we had an 'illegal' picnic of wine and mirabelle plums by the pool worried about confrontation - they've forgotten that they are in the service industry i think. So nice place, but they could use a service overhaul and come down off their arrogant ladder for a moment.

Lovely chateau just outside Beaune

We stayed here for two days in August to visit some vinyards and to relax. The pool is small but nice, and it gets sun most of the day. The hotel is just outside Beaune so its bood to have a car to get around. Friendly staff and the room was great. We stayed in a suite in the main building, while our friends took a smaller room overlooking the pool. They said their room was small but comfortable. Our suite was very comfortable and overlooked the back garden. Tucked away, it is a quiet location but easily accessible by car to everything. Recommend it for a good weekend away.

5 Stars isn’t enough for this true gem!

We have travelled the world and stayed at numerous great places, but this one left an indelible mark on our hearts. All thanks not only to an authentic yet respectfully modernized French oasis, but also to the host Vanessa and her team – their exceptional warmth and hospitality truly made us feel appreciated and welcome!

We had a lovely room in the annex, from where we could easily overlook and access the beautiful pool area, as well as enter our room from the charming courtyard.

The breakfast is a chapter by itself: a sumptuous selection of whatever you could wish for, all meticulously prepared and served in a chateau-worthy setting. When the weather allows, you can choose to enjoy it in the courtyard garden, where you can dine surrounded by a feeling of ancient magic.\"

Ondanks het mooie domein ligt het vlak naast de autostrade en is er wel wat geluidshinder buiten. In de kamer was er geen probleem. Het personeel was supervriendelijk en de kamer was ook zeker ruimen en had alle nodige voorzieningen.

Als Zwischenstopp für uns top. (Um Beaune zu besuchen benötigt man ein Auto.) Ruhiges Zimmer im Anbau war top. Kl Minibar, Heißwasserbereiter vorhanden. Kl Terasse, im Sommer mit Blick auf den Pool (saisonal). Super nettes Personal. Sehr leckeres Frühstücksbuffet mit guter Auswahl! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Ett vackert slott med grönskande park

Ett vackert hotell i en unik slottsmiljö. Vacker slottspark och omgivning. Riklig och välsmakande frukost. Trevligt bemötande och service. Bra mottagande av hund.

Das Personal war sehr nett. Das Zimmer war leider nicht unser Geschmack, sehr staubig und alt. (Wir hatten ein Standard Zimmer, nicht im Château). Der Pool ist schön. Das Château sieht auch schön aus. Ist etwas weit vom Zentrum entfernt, zu Fuß etwa 3 km. Die Autobahn A6 läuft nah am Gelände vorbei, hört man beim Pool aber im Zimmer haben wir da nichts von mitbekommen.
