It was easy to access the tea/coffee unit and the biscuits were an extra touch, as was the offer of a wine or beer. The area is VERY quiet. You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into creating a great experience for guests. Peaceful but convenient location
There's nothing more likely to test the equilibrium of your hosts, than spilling (what looked like a whole bottle but was in fact partial contents of a wine glass....ok, a big wine glass) of RED wine over pristine white bed linen of your lovely room. They passed the test, tho I saw a hint of dismay when Julie was told of the calamity. Well, it would test any saint. Otherwise, our stay was smooth and suited our purpose. Close to Hamilton's Beaumont Street, close to the city beaches, but providing a quiet retreat when we needed a mid-afternoon break. Not suited to kids....but then, that was another 'tick' from our side. Admit we misread description and thought we had own kitchenette facility, but for the short stay, it wasn't a problem - and it was our stuff-up. The on-site parking is limited, but if we'd have missed out (we didn't) there seems to be no problem with on street free parking. And it feels a safe enough area to not worry about leaving the car out overnight. A nice, civilised break from the not-so-civilised Sydney life. If there's a next time, we'll have the Sauvignon Blanc...

Nice little touches like chocolates an added bonus. I did find the bed was a little uncomfortable for me - others might not be so concerned. It'd also be nice if breakfast was on offer after 8am - lots of people on holiday don't get up that early.

We were the only ones staying, so had the benefit of the off-street car park in the garage. The room itself was comfortable, and lovely and clean. Our hosts were available but unobtrusive - perfect.

We stayed here to be close to McDonald Jones Stadium to watch the Matilda's play, it was an easy 20 minute walk to the stadium and only 1 block from Beaumont st for drinks and food at a trendy bar before the game. Parking was easy in front of the BnB, the room was modern and comfortable with a massive spa bath. The price included breakfast, we chose muesli with yoghurt, fresh fruit and local honey and fruit toast with vanilla ricotta which was a delicious way to start the day. The owners were friendly and told us where to find the seal at Nobbys beach light house and we also saw a bonus pod of dolphins. Overall we had a great time in Newcastle and would easily recommend staying at the Chaucer Palms BnB.

We stayed here for a night as a bit of fun, even though we are fairly local. It's lovely and central to Beaumont street where there is great food and shopping, and there's easy free street parking outside. The host was lovely and had a nice chat with us over breakfast and the rest of the time it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Good selection of CD's and the biggest spa in our room! Chaucer Palms is a well featured, clean and modern getaway. The room was great and my better half just loved the spa bath (ok we both loved it).The room was well appointed, comfortable and quite.
This is not a family hotel, its more set up for couples who want somewhere to stay on a getaway, and possibly a business traveller after a touch of luxury.

Cancellation confusion
Despite phoning 40 hours in advance, I was told that cancellation involved losing the whole accommodation payment for the room.
No cancellation fee - just lost.
I would therefore recommend carefully choosing the accommodation. Most other accommodation applications involve a cancellation fee when trying to cancel more than 24 hours in advance.
If the room was not re-bookable then I can understand losing the whole lot - but to be told that they had turned 4 or 5 others away from accommodation that Saturday night because they were booked out (they only have 4 rooms) - and that was the reason for losing the whole accommodation payment seemed illogical to me as they would not have known if another booking would occur in the next 40 hours or not.

My husband and I were looking for an overnight stay while we were just driving through Newcastle so we quickly searched for a nearby hotels and found this lovely place. I've never stayed at such a nice B&B: house is very pretty and clean, bedroom was big and had everything we needed, and Julie and Peter's hospitality was amazing! They were very helpful with providing information and their breakfast is so nice, like it's at a fancy brunch. The location is also great, right off of Beaumont, so we wish we could've stayed longer here and explore the town. We highly recommend Chaucer Palm's.
