On arrival the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. He gave me a map of the area also a list of suggested resturants for dinner and offered to book if I dicided to use any. The hotel is inside the city walls so is within walking distance of the sights and the fact it has free parking is brilliant it also looks like a large villa.
The room I had was large with an equally large shower room with an excellent shower (plenty of hot water) and was very comfortable.Toiletries in the shower room shower gel and shampoo along with a soap bar. Breakfast was a choice of fruit juices, cereals, tea and coffee, fruit,toast and pastries and a choice of cooked items.
Full english, eggs benedict,eggs florentine etc. The bar next to reception was nice though as it was mid week was empty.
Only down side was a slight hum from what I can only presume was the fridge in the room but it wasnt that bothersome and I soon drifted into a wonderful sleep.
Overall delightfull and I would go back again probably in the Summer though as there is outside seating. One thing is more choice of jams at breakfast.

Quiet hotel, close to city centre

Castle House is very handy for the railway station and despite being close to a busy roundabout our room was lovely and quiet. The bed was comfy with crisp white sheets. Good breakfast selection with fresh cooked breakfast served very promptly. City centre a short walk away partly along a stretch of city wall.

Only 5mins walk from Canterbury East station and 10mins walk to Cathedral.
We stayed at the double room in the cottage, the decor is a bit old style but spacious and clean with free hot breakfast. Overall is a very pleasant stay, would recommend.

We were very disappointed that having pointed out to SImone on the reception desk that the room needed some cleaning attention with regards to nail clippings and a discarded cotton bud on the carpet she did not apologise but said she would get it sorted.However on our return at tea time no attention had been given to these areas.Not good enough.A deep clean moving all the furniture would not go amiss.We did otherwise enjoy our stay, breakfast was good and hotel conveniently placed.I would suggest that it might be a good idea to have some lights in the car park as it was very dark and this is the main entrance

Great location close to the city centre, plus onsite parking. Service was great, room was clean and comfortable. We had room number 10 which has a great view of the castle from the windows . The breakfast was good and plentiful. Has a nice garden to relax in.
Canterbury being a university city, be prepared for some late night noise/revelry.

The advantages of this hotel are it’s close proximity to Canterbury town centre with its attractions and restaurants, excellent cooked breakfast and lovely hot showers. Sadly the decor could do with an update and, although our room overlooked a very busy roundabout, thankfully the secondary double glazing helped to muffle some of the noise (worth pointing out that we stayed in October so no need to open any windows).

Think twice before booking

The toilet was broken, Vincent on reception was unhelpful and certainly not interested. The extractor didn’t work in the bathroom, the TV had to be the smallest I’d ever seen. TV remote was held together with tape. There was a black stain on the duvet. The room smelt musty on arrival. (Arrived late, unable to move hotels, no other rooms available). Plus the carpet looked dirty because of its age.
I’ve never written a review like this and was thankful it was only a single night stay. The room cost almost £90.00. If it had been £40.00 I wouldn’t stay again. These guys need to sort themselves out.
I must add the morning staff were concerned about my points but it was too late to do anything.

Cool old building a few hundred yards from the train station (Canterbury East, even though it is the Westernmost of the two stations.). Beautiful garden on the property. Good bathroom with shower, comfy double bed, tea/coffee and shortbread in the room. Huge Breakfast included. They will happily store luggage for you for a few hours. Service is polite and professional. The Cathedral is a 10 minute walk.

Great location being a short walk from the center of Canterbury. The staff was very friendly and tried their best to help, but I got the impression that the owner of the hotel cared little for the property. Our room had stains all over the rug, cobwebs in the windows, a moldy bath mat folded up in the corner beside the shower, a broken lamp, a hole in the wall behind the bed, and dysfunctional lights in the bathroom mirror.

It's a shame because with a little money and effort this property could be very charming. Unfortunately \"dingy\" is the word that comes to mind. Now if this was a hostel and I had been paying hostel prices for my stay I would be able to overlook most of this. However at over £100/night this should not be.

Kudos to the staff for remaining upbeat and helpful, even apologizing for the rough conditions of the hotel. One gentleman in particular retrieved and cleaned an extra fan for our room and was very helpful. So nothing at all against the staff, however they gave me the impression that my complaints were not new to them and that the owner could care less to address them.

By far the worst place we have stayed so far on our honeymoon. You know something is wrong when a 14th century inn is far nicer than a 19th century one.

Just 2 blocks away from Canterbury East train station and a 10 minute walk to Cathedral. Bed a bit hard, window wouldn't close so had noice from road outside, one bulb in chandelier didn't work. Room defo needs update smells and looks old. Good breakfast.

Adorable Hotel in great location

This hotel was in a perfect part of town. It was walking distance to pretty much everything and is across the street from ruins that were built in 1050. The staff were very welcoming and a delight to speak with. I would recommend this as a place to stay.

Not value for money sadly, we thought we were splashing out for a bit of luxury but it was all very average and one of the beds in our family room (the single) was tiny! We didn’t have a particularly comfortable stay and were disappointed with the breakfast, although the waitress was lovely. Location is very good. If it had been cheaper I would have rated it more highly!

Shower not working at all - because the control knob is broken completely.

Hair and dirt in the shower tray when we arrived. Obviously been a problem for some time, but receptionist denied all knowledge and said nothing could be done about it.

When I asked for a telephone number to complain to Dems, the company that owns the hotel, she said she wasn't allowed to give it out.

Seems obvious that Dems is used to complaints - and managers deal with them by ignoring unhappy guests.

Hotel otherwise dirty, cramped and tired, with noisy road outside window. Normally I wouldn't complain about any of that, but the shower was very much a last straw.

The hotel and proximity to centre.

The hotel was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The waiting staff at breakfast were especially helpful as they served our delicious breakfast. The room was made up and cleaned to a high standard each day. The centre if Canterbury was close and within 5 minutes we could be at the Cathedral entrance.

Put us behind schedule by over an hour...coming from York it made for a much longer day than wanted. The staff were great, we left our car there while visiting the cathedral in the morning. Check in was quick & friendly. Location perfect with only a ten minute walk to Canterbury centre. Plenty to see and do roundabout with ample choice of places to eat. The room was large and airy and spotlessly clean. The efficient fan was welcome as temperatures reached 31 degrees during our stay. The en suite was kept in tip top condition and the large walk-in shower perfect. Only 2 downsides 1) there is no lift and so would perhaps request a ground floor room next time. 2) the tv in our room was only 19 inch and wall mounted high up and so difficult to enjoy Wimbledon semis. The breakfast was top notch and could not be faulted, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Car park small but close to A21 and main routes. Would return.

This review is for Americans who might be expecting something an American hotel-type accommodation. It isn't. The first issue is likely related to the unprecedented heatwave that England has been enduring recently. We picked this hotel -- in part -- because it said it had \"AIR CONDITIONING\". We had already endured one night in an American brand hotel that did not have A/C, and we weren't looking forward to another one. Castle House does NOT have A/C. It does have free parking but if you arrive late, be ready for very tight parking. No elevators so be ready to pack your luggage up very tight set of stairs. Very clean. Courteous staff (that carried my wife's luggage up). In good location in Canterbury.

Very mixed. Twenty minute wait for breakfast table, another fifteen for breakfast itself. Okay, a full house. But a thank you for your patience, a simple sorry would have eased the aggravation. Plus the bathroom—health department disgusting. Brown effluent erupting on shower floor every time you ran taps. When reported to desk, indifference. Oh, you’re the first to complain about that! We left annoyed and disappointed. No management visible anywhere in this picture. Too bad. Good location. Room otherwise okay.

Booked this because my wife had to be in canterbury hospital by 8 in the morning to continue her cancer treatment so we requested an early breakfast this was requested at the time of booking and when we arrived at reception this request was not convayed to the cook we did get a cooked breakfast and arrived at the hospital at 7.55. The dining room like our bathroom was very cold and we were unable to shower it being to cold Glad we only stayed the one night

Such a spacious room and guys in reception so helpful with directions, giving us extra milk and letting us keep our car in carpark for a bit after checkout so we could do some last minute shopping. Breakfast was lovely too. Definitely stay again
