The hotel is modern, it’s located in the heart of the city and short walking distance to Lugano lake.
Closed to the hotel there are many designer boutiques (luxury clothing brands), also behind the hotel there is a cable care for going up to the train station. If you are coming to Lugano by train, you just take the cable car for going down the city center.
Regarding hotel staff, they are very decency and friendly.

From the moment we arrived we were happy. Great reception staff. Special mention to Carlotta. Helpful and courteous. The room! Good size, beautiful view with cute little balcony. Didn’t feel like 4* - said there are 3 restaurants, in fact one one with not that much menu choice and overpriced; said parking available - in fact offered me to park in a car park “5 mins” away for CHF 30 overnight, the park meters outside the hotel start at 7am. Room basic with noise from the road.

Nightmare with parking especially if you have disabilities. Poor assistance. We cut our stay . No one does it for you. Takes a good 15 mins to either walk back after you drop the car off and 15 mins to go pick it up. Front door is on a busy street

Street View Rather Than Mountain View

To better manage guest expectation I think the Mountain View room should be called Street View since the mountain that can be seen represents perhaps 1% of the view.

Also during my stay (October 2022) right in front of my room a very large construction project is taking place and they start pilling before 7am. I would not have booked the room if i had known this.

Do not waist your money. The pictures are very deceiving! The rooms are very small and we viewed a construction lot across the busy street. We asked if we could have a different room with a better view and the answer was If you want to pay more. $250 a night more to view the lake. We already spent over $350 a night. Beds very uncomfortable with a huge crack in the middle. There are NO outlets in the bedroom for cell phones, computers etc. Only 1 outlet in the bathroom with no ledge to put anything on it. The shower is extremely small you cannot bend over or lift your arms & I'm a small person. Tv remote did not work from your bed you had to get up every time you wanted to change the channel. Water was $7.00 Walls in room are stark white with no artwork of any kind. The accommodations were subpar especially for over $350 a night. Very unhappy with our stay.

Great location with superb views. Pool and bar area brilliant. The hotel rooms have been recently renovated and so they are clean and spacious. However the breakfast area was small and the outside tables and area could have been cleaner. The service was either very good or very bad depending on who you were talking to. It felt like some of the staff were there for themselves but others were really good. All in all a great place to stay but very expensive (I guess all Switzerland is expensive) so not good value for money.

Excellent location - right on the lake, you can go swimming in the lake. Excellent views.
The rest is very mediocare - from the condition of rooms/interior (in urgent need of remodelling) to the nonexistent hospitality and rude staff at breakfast.
A real shame as this could be a wonderful hotel given the historic building, the location and the views...

Hotel was amazing! The restaurant has great food. The breakfast was superb, great and generous spread. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, we were even upgraded to a bigger room with terrace facing the lake for our honeymoon. Parking is eur16 per night at the parking site just opposite the hotel so that’s very convenient. It’s a nice walk to the city center, would be amazing for summer as they have a pool which overlooks the lake and it’s possible to actually go for a swim right from its private jetty.

The staff here are phenomenal. I can’t say enough about the quality of the service, professionalism and courtesy they have showed me.

I am extremely happy with the location as well. The breakfast buffet is good with a decent amount of options.

I had dinner here as well. The restaurant is perfectly located on the lake with views dor days. However, the pricing is ridiculous...I mean really really expensive for what you get. I ordered lobster soup for 26 CHF thinking there may be a little lobster in it...it’s broth...from more than likely the lobster carcass.

The room is very basic. I got one with a balcony and Mountain View, with some view on the lake which is nice.

Overall, would recommend...just maybe wouldn’t eat dinner here.

Great Lakeside Hotel with pool

We stayed here for a few nights because it is the only hotel in Lugano that is on the lake (no road between hotel and lake and has a pool.
The room was a decent size and seemed modern. Good AC and great view from Athénée balcony. Some rooms are facing the back onto the road. The parking is 16 CHF/night extra. Check in very friendly.

Booked a double occupancy room. When I checked in with my boyfriend they informed me that the reservation only said 1 adult and he would have to pay $100 per night despite the room being for 2 ppl. I paid extra for a double room but they said the reservation has to say 2 ppl. They have cameras set up and anyone not staying at the hotel isn’t permitted in the room or they will charge you. Please be aware. I have never experienced anything like that. We had just traveled for 24hrs and that was the last thing you would want to deal with. The location of the hotel is about a 15-20 min walk from the majority of restaurants and bars. The breakfast was great.

My parents and my wife and I loved to return to HLS. The service and nice staff made our stay a true success. The dinners on the terrace facing the lakeview were amazing. The pricelevel is quite high but we got a very high quality stay. We can absolutely recommend this hotel and will probably return another year.

Location anf staff are OK. But the property is in terrible condition (dont be fooled by the pictures on the website). The room was in bad condition, carpet stained and black, needs changing. No shampoo provided in bathroom. Breakfast was good but not enough to make up for the room. Save yourself money and go to another place. Or spsnd a bit more and get a real 4 star experience!

We received a bus pass for the city while we stayed. It was very convenient to visit the city center. The pool arear was awesome. We were able to order dinks pool side. The pillows on the bed were very nice. The decor could use some updating and the rooms some renovations. Breakfast was fantastic. They have a great variety of hot and cold breakfast. The honey options were delicious.

Really cute hotel! It wasn't anywhere near the train station as someone mentioned, but cabs readily available. And it is a bit of a walk to the city center, but only about 15 minutes, and you can walk through a lovely park through some of it. I did ask (and received) a room facing the lake, but it was on the 1st floor and most of my view was obscured by trees, but still lovely. Pool looked gorgeous and if inclined, you can climb right down in the late itself and swim to a floating dock. Beautiful area for breakfast!!! (And lovely breakfast buffet!) Restaurants and grocery store nearby, but actually shopping is in the cute city centre.

Check-In time is 330 not 3, as stated on my confirmation with hotels.com. If busy like when we were there, you may be unlikely to receive a room before that time. Hotel pool and acces to the lake is very nice. Upgraded lake view room had amazing view. The restaurant food and service was great. Check in communication and service could be improved as well as the pool side service. Generally, I've received better service from other four star hotels.

The hotel definitely needs to be renovated. Our room had water stains along the wall and ceiling. The wall paper was peeling away. The hotel had seen better days. They were renovating the lobby and common areas. The service was polite and good. The breakfast was very good. The hotel is local away from the more commercial and tourist areas.

The lights are always not on!

This hotel should be scrapped from your list. You have to enter the room in total darkness and try to get the lights on with tricks that take 30 minutes and if not successful, you end to have to freshen up in total darkness. The personnel treated me as a person who wanted to get a better room for free because I also wanted a bathtub. Unacceptable and a possible firetrap. You haven to write to the Bern tourist authority.

Very well located hotel right on Lake Lugano

The hotel is perfectly located on Lake Lugano, in the Castagnola neighborhood. It has a lovely terrace restaurant with a priceless view while dining. There is a nice pool lakeside, or one can swim right in the lake, and it is a 10 minute walk to the middle of Lugano. The room itself was comfortable, but a bit plain and could use some updating. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Great hotel with friendly staff. Also good food and nice breakfast buffet. I expected a bigger double bed in a hotel of this ranking. The double was also simply two singles pushed together. Some may prefer this. I don't. Also be aware that the car parking is not 16 Francs per stay as advertised but per day.
