The hotel was fine and very modern . There was no one at the front desk to answer questions
I have a major complaint. During our stay, there was a breakfast buffet arranged in the lobby. There was no price on it. And there was no one at the desk for us to confirm whether breakfast was included or not. I assumed that this was for the guest and and I took the breakfast. My husband who was staying with me also got coffee for one or two days. Again, no one told us that breakfast was not included in our service and they did not tell us the actual price of the breakfast. Afterwards, I have been charged $199 for taking breakfast at the hotel for four days. This is unacceptable if I had known that the breakfast was expensive I would not have had anything. They were cheaper pay places to get coffee and a croissant outside the hotel.

The place is conveniently located near the train station as well as the funicular to go to the lake promenade. They are between 5 to 10 minutes walk from the hotel respectively. Daniel was very prompt in responding with whatever we need figured out in the room besides being nice and helpful. Thank you, Daniel; you made our stay wonderful!

The hotel is lovely. We had 2 rooms booked and paid the same for both. 1 had a deck, a safe, a fridge and a closet. The other had none of those things. We felt a little overcharged for one room. Daniel at the front desk was very helpful with maps and gave is a discount card for some train and bus rides. All very enjoyable.

The owner and staff were gracious and capable. We arrived under stressful circumstances, having to find a different place late in the day. Daniel, at the front desk, waited after his shift to check us in. The room was spotless and comfortable. Hermelina makes a wonderful cafe latte. The only negative is that the breakfast is sparse—cereal, bread, croissants, yogurt, but no eggs.

Good, quiet and clean. It’s a utilitarian sort of hotel perfect for a short stay on a budget. It is a little confusing to find but once you know where you’re going it’s easy to locate and close to downtown on foot.

Loved the location of this hotel! So easy to jump off the train and make a short walk there, with very clear signs guiding the way. (If you cannot carry your luggage up stairs, don’t use it as there are a lot and no elevator.) Other than that, the manager was wonderful, the room great, And the convenience of getting to the train and the Funicular to the lovely downtown makes it a great stay!

Close the old town.

Initially I was not too excited about the location. After staying I have changed my view. There is the public transit pass the hotel provides. It is very short distance and easy to walk to the train station. The old town is very walkable and interesting. The lake front is a nice walk. The breakfast was fine and the outside area very nice.

Location is good but hotel is not for the elderly who can’t climb stairs. Reception is 1.5 flight of stairs up an already inclined road. Friendly owner manning the reception is helpful in going about to sight see Lugano

Clean, comfortable, and convenient

We had a very pleasant stay here while en route from France to Italy. The hotel was extremely convenient to the train station, and, even though we arrived after the front desk had closed, we easily arranged to have the keys left for us in a lock box. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we found Lugano utterly charming and scenic. The room is small by American standards, but spacious relative to what you would expect to find in larger European cities. I'd gladly recommend it to rail travels who are able to handle stairs.

A great place to stay in Lugano!

The owners/managers here are extremely attentive & helpful. Our room was basic but very clean & comfortable. We had a huge balcony as well to relax on. The breakfast was delicious! We only stayed one night as we were catching the Bernina Express Glacier Express the next day. It was a quick walk to the train station from here.

Close to the center, quiet and very nice staff.

Super nice staff, simple but nice and comfortable hotel, in a quiet area with 5min walk to the old Lugano.
Downside for people with disabilities: stairs to reach reception and again stairs for the rooms. No parking but next to the train station (not noisy).

Not What We Expected

Whilst there is a bus stop right at the front of the hotel. It is isolated if you do not have a car. The shop referred to is a hike up hill and not open all the time. The linen was worn out the towels so thin and small you could not dry yourself.
The blanket had holes in it. The breakfast was ok but evening meals warmed up in microwave not freshly cooked.

Well located hotel with Helpful Owners

The owner was incredibly helpful in terms of giving us great touristic advice and giving us a discount card for excursions in the area and for free train rides within the region. The hotel is very near the train station and the historical area of Lugano. Rooms a bit small but AC works vey well. Breakfast is very expensive.

Absolutely loved it!

My stay here was excellent. The lady at reception was incredibly nice and helpful. We forgot some things on the hotel and she was kind enough to ship them back to us. The room was clean and comfortable. I really have no complaints here. Also with quick access to the city. I will definitely come back!

Absolutely not worth the price for a family of 3

It is not a hotel, rather a small and old apartment. The rooms are so small that, a family of three can hardly move within. The bathroom is so small that you are reminded of toilet is an aeroplane. We paid over $250 for one night, which is absolutely not worth it. In the US, I would pay $60-$80 for such a room.

However, the staff was courteous, and the hotel is extremely close to the train station.

The hotel is reachable within a 5-minute walk from the train station. However, there is not much around it: there's really just a pub and small convenient store nearby, and most stores close really early (~7pm). The room was very small, but very clean. The bathroom is very similar to the kind you'd see on a cruise - but even smaller. We expected them to clean our room after the first night (we stayed for two nights), but they didn't. The stay was quite expensive, but compared to other hotels in Lugano, it's not too bad. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Charming Hotel in Lugano

Loved the style of this hotel. Great owners. We were offered lots of helpful information at checking. The breakfast dining area was charming, with great artistic flair. We did not have the Buffett but Daniel offered us cappuccinos, which were excellent. The location was great . . . Close to the train station and the old town of Lugano. Even though we were close to the train station, the room was quiet. Our room also had a nice sized balcony/lanai.
I purchased some Venetian coffee from Venice to take home with me.

My only issue was the size of the rooms. Bathroom was particularly tiny. WI-FI was a bit spotty.

Perfect for the price

Wonderful place to stay. The staff is above and beyond helpful. I had questions with returning my rental car in the town and could not call since the car place was closed for the day. They called the car company, gave me directions, and had it all done before I got up the next morning. Nice clean rooms, a/c kept up on a 92 degree day, also had a mini fridge in the room. Short walk to the lake and good central location for car rental and train usage. I would go back again tomorrow if I could.

Hotel owner was very helpful and friendly. So close to the train and bus stations that we did not need a taxi. Room was small but had a large television with many English stations, extremely clean, and a wonderful sitting terrace attached. Walk to town is steep when returning, a few blocks, but can catch a bus if necessary. I would definitely recommend this room.

Charming small hotel, nice owners

This charming little hotel was perfect for our stay in Lugano, it is not fancy but it is clean and well cared for, almost like a bed and breakfast. Our goal was to be close to the train station (we could easily walk with all our luggage) and also on the uphill side (anything on the downhill side of the train station requires quite a hike to get back up), as we needed to easily get to Franklin University in Sorengo. The owners of Albergo Stella were so welcoming and helpful with everything. The breakfast was lovely. We were very pleased overall and highly recommend Albergo Stella.

The hotel is conpletely renovated, very modern interieur. The short walk from the trainstation (5 min) was very conveniant for us arriving with the train with lugguage. The city centre was easy to reach taking the funicular from the train station. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful. The free water (also sparling) was absolutely great. Great customer service, we would always go there again when going to Lugano!

OK, aber trotzdem enttäuscht

Aufgrund der Lage zum Bahnhof und dem Preisangebot habe ich dieses Hotel gebucht. Bei der Ankunft war alles sehr freundlich und der Empfang war sehr angenehm. Das Zimmer ist kleiner als erwartet und auch schon älter. Jedoch mehrheitlich sauber und das grosse Bett aufwertend. Das Bad ebenfalls älter, aber bis auf geringen Wasserdruck auch ohne weitere Beanstandungen.
Was mich aber dann sehr störte, waren die Belagserneuerungen, welche bis um 03.30 Uhr dauerten und von meinem Zimmer aus in 50m Distanz stattfanden. Zuerst den alten Belag rausgefräst (ab 21.00 Uhr) und dann mit Maschinen ab Mitternacht eingebaut. Die Hotelleitung kann hier nichts dafür, aber einen Hinweis oder eine Preisreduktion wären sicher wünschenswert gewesen.
Das Frühstück war corona konform bereits auf einem Tablett pro Zimmer bereit und reichte aus.

Les personnes étaient très accueillantes et aidantes : arrivée avant le Check-in et nous avons eu directement accès à la chambre; et avant le départ, ils nous ont laissé une clef de la porte d’entrée pour aller rechercher nos bagages.

Enttäuschendes Zimmer in kleinem Hotel

Gleich hinter dem Bahnhof Lugano befindet sich das kleine Hotel Stella. Wir hatten das Pech ein Zimmer im Erdgeschoss zugewiesen zu bekommen, Fenster auf die Strasse, unattraktive Einrichtung. Die Lüftungen der Plastikmodulbäder vermutlich aus den 80er Jahren waren so laut, dass die Benutzung des Badzimmers durch unserer Zimmernachbarn uns am Abend und noch bis morgens um 2 Uhr so laut vorkamen wie Staubsauger. Service ansonsten nett, Frühstück ok, Kaffee gut, schönes Gärtchen.
