It was ok, but not more. Feels more run down than it is. The House has Lots of charm, the rooms- not so. No duvet, just a thin blanket (with holes)it’s reasonable in Price and I liked the central Location. My verdict: it needs much more love and engagement. Staff at the reception was excellent. I will not go back.

Staff! Due to a landslide caused by heavy rains, our party of 4 was stuck in Milan with no way to get back to Lugano. Hotel staff arrange a taxi to pick us up and bring us back to the hotel when all transpiration options were overtaxed and expensive. The staff literally saved us from a very difficult circumstance.

While the property was incredibly convenient in terms of its location, we had issues finding parking nearby and our room was very hot. When we tried to use the A/C, the machine started to leak and did not stop for 12 hours. I woke up with a sore throat likely from moisture. When we checked out the next morning and let them know about this issue, they said that it’s been happening in our unit. Why rent out a room that you know is having water issues?? The hotel was definitely not fully booked. It’s a beautiful property with great staff, but not worth the price considering what we had to go through with water issues. I woke up sick and my husband barely slept from the constant drip of the A/C unit. It was the most expensive place we stayed on our entire road trip through Switzerland and Italy and we were pretty disappointed.

Hotel Petalozzi was clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The rooms were large, modern and well appointed. It was very hot and humid when we arrived so we were very thankful for the air conditioning! Stayed on 2nd floor with front and side windows. Lots of noise in the park across the road but the windows and a/c block it. Staff is excellent, cold breakfast had lots of options and for an extra 8F you could have scrambled eggs. Great location to walk to everything.

Easy walk from train station to funicular and then hotel! Many dining options near or at the hotel restaurant. Staff was great! One evening we had leftovers which they refrigerated for us . We played cards and ate leftovers the next night in the tv salon. Room is small but well organized.

We had a nice room with a great bathroom. The room seemed newly renovated. The hotel was being renovated during our stay but was not a problem at all. The staff was friendly and breakfast was really good. It is a short walk to the water and to shopping/ dining. The bus stops right out front making it convienidnt to get to locations such as Mount Bre and Mount San Salvador.

This was 2nd time to stay at this hotel and it was still as good as the 1st. It is nicely located to be able to get to any part of the city in 10-15 mins tops. Rooms are simple and nice. Clean private bathroom and the staff was eager to help, if needed. Nice large breakfast option if you like that to start your day.

No free parking for our car

Hotel advertised free parking, but they only have 6 spaces for over 50 rooms. We had to pay 25 swiss francs to park in an offsite public parking lot. Room was dingy and no air condition. We had to leave the window open and on the second night we had 2 bees in our room.

The owners and staff of this special gem are the ones who tip the scale in terms of service. Outstanding in every way, lost keys, laundry, superb breakfast room and multilingual engagement. My partner and I had a great stay at this hotel. The breakfast was good and location was very convenient. Our room as exactly as pictured and the air conditioning was nice because the weather was hot when we were in Lugano! We also ate lunch in the restaurant one day and it was a decent portion at a reasonable price. I’d definitely recommend Hotel Pestalozzi.

The hotel is at a perfect location for the Palazzo dei Congresi and the centre of Lugano. The bus to and from the train/bus station stops right outside the hotel.

The room was very basic but it was clean and comfortable. The staff were very polite and friendly and extremely helpful.

Overall very good value (by Swiss standards)!

Nice, cozy hotel close to downtown and the lake

This is a fairly nice hotel in downtown Lugano, a few blocks away from the lake shore. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are clean and cozy, but not particularly luxurious. They come with very simple beds, table and chairs, a sink, a table fan, a wardrobe, and a tv. The showers and toilets are in the hallway. This is a bit unusual for people used to international hotels, but common in Europe, and did not cause an inconvenience during my week long stay.

A breakfast buffet is provided, and consists of a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yogurts, juices, cereals, and fruit. Cooked breakfast is available for purchase, as is room service and other meals.

This was one of the cheaper options available when I was looking for hotels, and with that in mind it's very satisfying. It does a good job of giving you easy access to central Lugano, but the hotel itself is not an attraction.

Very bad experience. For $140 you get ancient room without bathroom nor air conditioning. It was very hot and I couldn't sleep much because of that. Bathroom is somewhere outside and (for $140) I even had to clean it. Can you imagine that's?? Also hotel doesn't have enough parking lots. I had to park on the street and pay for it.
Lodging in this hotel doesn't worth it more then $30-$40. Shame for such a nice city.

Save money if you accept hostel-like conditions

Offered bare essentials in an absurdly expensive city. No a/c. Our shared bathroom and shower were down the hall. Beds were marginal. But everything was clean. The front desk was very, very helpful. The free breakfast was fine, and the hotel's restaurant was the only reasonably priced meal within a mile. If you want to save, consider it. Think of it as a hostel for grown-ups.

It is fine to have something very basic when you don't pay much for a hotel but this one looked somehow unclean, the shower was half blocked, and there was an annoying old lady smell perfume in the room that just feels like its covering up something wrong.

A reasonably priced hotel

Stayed here for 4 days while visiting Lugano. Our room was large, #32, especially by European standards. Location was within walking distance of the lake and shopping or just hop on the buses frequently going by. We arrived by train, walking to hotel is way to far and a bus is a bit of a hassle so we took a cab. I definitely recommend this as fare was 22 CH. The hotel staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. Breakfast was average, didn't notice any eggs. Would stay here again

this is a tired hotel

This hotel is in a good location but it needs a complete overhaul. The rooms are on the small side as compared to other hotels that we stayed in. Everything in the room was old and worn out. Not one of the help in the restaurant spoke english and the menu was in Italian. On top of that the food was just adequate.
I could not recommend this hotel to a friend, if I did I would no longer have that friend.

Nice hotel with good location

We stayed in this hotel during a very hot period so not having air conditioning was a problem. The ceiling fans would have been fine for other times. Our spacious room was on a busy corner so with windows opened, there was lots of noise. Light sleepers should ask for a quiet spot. The room was very basic but exceptionally clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was also very basic, generally just OK. The staff were wonderful and helpful with directions and information.

Stayed for a long weekend. The hotel is very central and close to the lake. Staff is very friendly. Perfect for a stroll through the city as well for excursions to Mont Bre, Gandria etc. The price included a breakfast buffet that was very good. Some items had to be purchased extra (such as scrambled eggs) but we were very contended with the variety of the buffet.

5 of us shared 2 adjoining (but not connecting) rooms with shared bathrooms. We never had any problems accessing the bathroom and showers even though there were others on our floor (the sinks within the rooms themselves helped). The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The front desk was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant was pretty good although had a limited menu (a little bit hard with children). Breakfasts were pretty good. The hotel was located very conveniently to the lake and the piazzas/older areas.

Convenient to Univ of Lugano

This hotel was a major find, very helpful for access to the Univ. of Lugano, the lake and old city shopping. Free breakfast was just right, with fresh espresso drinks, fruit, rolls and several kinds of prepared muesli and yogurt, cheese and sliced ham. Room was very comfortable, and included extra side bed for luggage, round table and chairs for work or meals. Although no air conditioning included, ceiling fan made it very comfortable in late June.

Great way to visit Lugano on a budget

My wife and I stayed in a room with shared facilities for just over 100 SFR per night at the end of October. The room was a decent size, clean and reasonably well equipped. Sink in one corner, table and chairs in another. Plenty of storage space. Comfortable twin beds pushed together. Sharing the shower and toilet was a good way to keep the cost down. They were always clean and we rarely had to wait. WiFi was fast and reliable. Breakfast was OK. Good choice of food. Boiled eggs and fresh orange juice were available for a supplement. Located on the edge of the old town, an easy walk to the lake front and other attractions. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel is good but be careful when booking, some rooms have no bathroom.
Also if you have non-smoking room, the smoke most likely will seep through from other rooms.
The sound- proofness is non-existent.
The breakfast is modest but nice. The reception service is friendly and helpful.
