MUST READ. Book at your own peril!!!

This was a couples trip and each couple booked a separate room.

Pros: front desk staff was friendly and attempted to address concerns up to their limitation, location is good with easy access to downtown Lugano (we previously thought it would be further)

Cons:
- Hotel is VERY outdated with very few modern amenities
- Management refused to allow the front desk to give us the controller for A/C unit. They claimed the weather was not warm enough and we could leave the window open. The problem with this is the excessive noise from outside all night long which leads to the next con:
- The hotel has a strip club in the lobby and indecent pictures in the basement where the public bathrooms are. The nightclub attracts people at odd hours and there is loud noises and conversations keeping your from sleeping. We literally couldn’t get more than 3-4 hours of sleep per night. The solution would have been to close the windows and turn on the A/C, but…
- There was a hose in the middle of the shower connecting the faucet to the shower head. You basically shower touching the hose and work your movements around it.
- Even during the time of the year that managements allows A/C, there is a $30 charge per day for the usage.

Overall we wanted to like the place for its location, views, and front desk customer service but at every moment, it disappointed us more.

While the building was showing its age with its creaky, carpeted floors, dim lighting, and faded furniture, it was great in the places that mattered most to us. The beds were clean and comfortable, the bathroom was very, very spacious, the air conditioner worked consistently well throughout our stay, and it was very quiet throughout the night.

Breakfast options were limited to cold options (other than the option to boil your eggs and toast your bread) but the coffee was freshly made to order and you could sit outside on their balcony to enjoy your meal if you wanted.

While this property is older it is lovely and functions without problem. The staff is friendly and inviting. Breakfast is delicious and the views of the lake are gorgeous. It is farther from the town center but is worth the 10 minute walk along the lake or the 1 minute bus trip.
The AC was an added bonus!
My only negative is that it smells heavily of cigarette smoke.

Location is really great. 5 mins walk to Paradiso Train Station and Migros. Bus stop is next to hotel and 2 mins walk to Paradiso boat pier. Old hotel with bigger room. Beautiful lake view but not good facilities. The breakfast is good though. Overall, you got what you pay for.

Good for night life, bad for sleep

One of worst hotel experiences in my life. First impression negative due to the night club downstairs. Room in poor conditions (see pictures), a lot of noise from outside, air conditioner difficult to use, and even when off it makes a disturbing noise.
On the positive side the common areas have interesting decorations, breakfast is ok (in a nice balcony with a beautiful view over the lake), the location is relatively convenient, the personell is friendly.

Didn’t feel too secure as there are two entrance to the hotel one of which totally bypasses the hotel reception so anyone could enter and go up to the rooms without being seen. Seedy nightclub attached to the hotel doesn’t do the ambience any favours.

Romantic lakeside hotel

We made a last minute booking for a hotel on Lake Lugano. We paid an extra few £ for a lake view. We were not disappointed. The room was on the 3rd floor and had a balcony large enough for a small table and two chairs. We had beautiful weather so it added to the romance of the location. The room was beautifully decorated (it was nice to have a carpeted floor). We happened upon the vernicular railway to the top of San Salvatore - brilliant. It was all fantastic. Would highly recommend staying here.

Good location (but thats about it)

We booked the hotel understanding it was a 3 star, it's far from it! I have stayed in many 3 star hotels over the last 20 years and this isnt one.
It may have been in the 50s or 60s but 50 years later is well.. dated, and old fasioned. The air condidtioning was incredibly noisy, the french doors didn't open and the light (fluorescent!) in the bathrom didnt work.

Lovely vintage hotel with terrific views. Friendly staff. Problem is that the tub was not clean. The bed linen was extremely dingy. Broken fixtures also looked bad. The negative things are a pretty easy fix so I wonder why the neglect. Breakfast foods were tasty and adequate. Coffee great.

Great area, great hotel

I loved this place! It was my first time in the Lugano area, but hopefully won’t be the last. The hotel was great. Actually, I barely even remember the room because we spent most of our time on the balcony enjoying the incredible room. But I can say the staff was very kind and helpful, and everything was in good condition. I also loved that we could easily walk to all the restaurants, stores, etc. even though it’s not a Lugano address.

The hotel was built in the 1880s so it is old but very charming and clean. I look for hotels like this with character. I stayed 5 days and did not want to leave why the amazing fantastic view from your private balcony overlooking Lake Lugano. And great price breakfast very nice

In need of investment!

The hotel has a late check-in (until midnight), which was perfect as my flight was delayed! The breakfast was standard with nice croissants and bread but could have done with more healthy options and the room was clean but extremely dated and memory foam pillows. The location was good, right by the lake and train station and restaurant views are amazing. The slightly strange thing is the nightclub on the ground floor which gave the wrong impression!

Great location and even better desk clerks! Wonderful old building that was clean, quiet and had a beautiful view of the lake. Staff were very accomodating to hold our luggage for the day as our departing bus did not leave until 5pm. Hot eggs and sausage at breakfast was a nice treat

Charming building, fairly good location, close to the lake Lugano's waterfront and about a mile from Lugano's main square.Decent rooms and elegant, charming appearance of this old building are overshadowed by the front desk stuff that just does not care, nor provides answers to even important question such as parking for hotel guests. They just couldn't care less that we are from another country (or from another continent in our case :) ) and are not familiar with the city or with stiff Swiss regulations. Thanks to their ignorance we got gauged 52CHF ( roughly 50 Euro) for 24 hour parking.

Wonderful stay at Victoria Au Lake, Lugano

It was a wonderful stay at the Victoria! Never had we imagined that we would have such a beautiful, and uninterrupted view of the lake from the windows of my room. The staff was so friendly that we had no trouble in getting into the hotel late in the night after visiting the city. The breakfast was unimaginably good and varied. Even my wife, who has a gluten allergy, had many yummy things to eat.

Great. When people say squeaky floors - it's an understatement. The place is dated, but that is an experience in itself. The staff was awesome and very helpful, if I go back to Lugano, I will stay here again, mostly because I can't afford the nice the places. This would hold true for me, for most places though.

The hotel could definitely use an upgrade and feels a bit old. However, the room itself was clean and well furnished and had a killer view. The staff can be a bit stiff but helpful. Breakfast is nice and served in a dining room with view of the lake which is very nice. WiFi was very good when we were there. Note that there is almost NO street parking. They have a garage right in front of the hotel where they charge 20 CHF/night. It is quite convenient if you have a car but not cheap (is anything in Switzerland :)).

somewhat bizarre but good value..

The location is without doubt very good - and the lake view rooms have an expansive vista. But inside it's a tad bizarre and very dated - if you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke avoid this place. Having said this my room was comfortable, a good size and the bathroom, though dated, was spotless with copious amounts of hot water. And for Lugano, great value. Just avoid Monday when the club downstairs pounds the music until 6am!

We come back to Hotel Victoria again and again. Great location and free breakfast. Lake-view rooms are worth it (or maybe you will just get lucky like us and get a free upgrade). Rooms are simple and clean- they aren't the most modern you will find in Lugano, but that's the charm of the hotel.

do not believe anything you see on the website

The hotel is so out dated - elevator is too small to fit for two adults, the shower head is placed so that you could not take a shower without getting water all over, the phone was not working well until I asked the staff which were not warm at all, very bad taste painting all over the hotel. The roof of the hotel seems to be falling apart at any moment, the hallway was so hot and so dark because it was controlled by motion sensors.
One thing about this hotel is that it is in a great location - right near the lake.

They did not have the proper room available. I do not know if this was intentional. Our room that we eventually received was great other than being too hot. The hotel was charming. The restaurant staff was somewhat rude. The weather was bad and there is not much near the hotel to see in bad weather.

At first pass, this hotel is inexpensive and clean. If that's all you're looking for, this is probably a reasonable place to stay.

That being said, the beds were uncomfortable (hills and valleys), and the floor creaked with every step - my traveling companion had to sleep with ear plugs. The decor screams \"faded victorian beach resort\" (which, in Victoria's defense, is exactly what it is). Front desk staff is ok, but nothing to rave abut.

Unfortunately the lady at the front desk ruined our impression of the hotel. We asked her for suggestions of restaurants for dinner and she said she couldn't help because she has only been in Lugano for 1 month!! What?? This must be a very common question among guests and I can't understand why the hotel managment has not trained her to give her a few names to recommend! Then the internet did not work and I called downstairs and asked her what was going on. She said that I had to try the internet later on because sometimes it does not work. I asked her to call a technician to solve the problem and she said she couldn't because it was a sunday! Finally the next morning we needed to go somewhere in town and we asked how we could get to the address that I showed her. Once again she said that she didn't know because she has only been in lugano for one month!! I actually had to ask her to look it up in Google maps. Then she took 10 minutes to go on her computer and instead of printing out the map, she said that she needed to help other people at the desk before she can help me more... I have no respect for any hotel management that could hire someone so incompetent!

Very good location 10min walk from Lugano center. Right on the lakeside, the rooms have a beautiful view on lake Lugano. Old and with small / not so comfortable rooms but well maintained and clean. Friendly staff. Too expensive. Note: there is a cabaret at the ground floor of the hotel (not mentioned at the site).

Das Hotel ist an einer sehr schönen Lage direkt am See mit wunderbarem Ausblick. Lugano Center ist serh gut in eienm gemütlichen 10-15min Spaziergang an der Promenade erreichbar. Das Hotel ist leider ziemlich veraltet und wrde teilweise halbsaniert Das Bett ist bequem jedoch lässt das Zimmer ansonsten zu wünschen übrig. Auch die neue Duschakabine die gemacht wurde ist nicht in einem guten Zustand. Das Morgenbuffet war jedoch wieder recht gut und es hat mir an nichts gefehlt.

Das in die Jahre gekommene Hotel bietet für einen Kurzaufenthalt erst mal alles, was man benötigt. Es hat grundsätzlich viel Charme im viktorianischen Stil. Die Lage ist 1a. Das Frühstück ausreichend und die Angestellten sehr freundlich. Man könnte mit einer grundlegenden Sanierung des Gebäudes sicher einen tollen Ort am Luganer See daraus machen. Dann wird es natürlich auch wieder viel teuer. ; )

Tenía reservada la habitación panorámica, pero al llegar al hotel la chica que había en recepción, no encontraba nuestra reserva y quería ponernos en una habiacion inferior, hablando con ella al final nos puso en una buena habitación como la que habíamos reservado, la gente fue muy agradable el hotel bastante antiguo pero me gustó, la habiacion limpia y cómoda y con buenas vistas al lago, desayuno un poco simple pero bueno, posicion muy buena cerca del centro y el funicular para subir al monte san Salvatore, te dan un papel para poder subir a los autobuses y trenes gratis el tiempo de estancia, en general muy agradable.

Das Hotel ist perfekt gelegen. Fast direkt am see. Das ist das Highlight dieses Hotels. Das Personal ist freundlich und man fühlt sich wohl.

Der Zustand des Hotels jedoch lässt ein eher negativen Eindruck. Alles funktioniert, aber ist zum Teil sehr veraltet oder in einem schlechten Zustand.

Abbiamo apprezzato la gentilezza di Cristina alla hall e la posizione e la camera con vista sul lago. Purtroppo l' hotel avrebbe bisogno di parecchi seri interventi di manutenzione e non solo di occasionali rimedi.

Das Hotel ist in die Jahre gekommen und es wird nichts mehr Investiert. Badezimmer ein wildes durcheinander und nichts passt zusammen, Blatten mit risse, zu langer Duschvorhang, fast kein Wrmwasserdruck, defekter Föhn, Defekte spühlung. Das Wasser von der Klimaanlage wird in eine. Kleinen Eimer gesammelt und das Zimmermädchen leert diesen nicht muss mann selber machen. Safe steht lose im Schrank und wenn mann es an der Reception meldet Intressiert es sie nicht gross. Beim frühstück immer genau das gleiche und mir fehlte ein bisschen gemüse. Kann dieses Haus nicht weiter empfehlen.

Viihtyisä hotelli

Huone oli erittäin tilava ja ikkunasta oli mahtava näköala järvelle. Aamiainen oli monipuolinen ja ruokaillessa sai nauttia myös hienosta näköalasta järvelle. Kulkuyhteydet olivat myös hyvät Luganon keskustaan.
