the hotel is beautiful and keeps their history instead of looking like modern hotels and why i liked grand hotel . i stayed here back in 2003 and it was a great stay but the staff were nice but did not go out of their way to help . now , the staff has really stepped up . took care of our every need . 1 of our jackets fell into a puddle and was soaked . they dried it and had it to us before we needed it to go to dinner . amazing service . cant wait to stay here again

The hotel was not worth the money. It was billed as a 5-star hotel but was extremely dated. The hotel was musty and had strange smells throughout, money notably in our room. The TV didn’t work, the wifi did not work in our room (but did in other parts of the hotel so we were in a dead spot). Cell service was not available in the hotel either (old thick walls) so I was in the internet dark. The staff was friendly but interaction was very limited. Not worth it - needs a major facelift and modern upgrade.

Our stay was okay. The hotel is really beautiful but service is lacking. The hotel terrace is gorgeous but after ordering a Negroni, there was no waiter in sight and waited 45 minutes for someone to come back up. In addition, we had to call down 4 times to ask for robes, and were told our bags would be sent up to our room but they weren’t and had to call multiple times, in addition to the fact that there was a screaming woman on our floor who was drunk and yelling for 30 minutes and we had to call down 6 times before security came up to escort her. I understand that unruly guests happen, but we shouldn’t have had to call so many times or waited so long for security to come.

Magnificent, beautiful historic hotel!

I have stayed in this beautiful historic hotel several times over the years. This was my first stay since here since 2016. I was upgraded to a very large suite. The suite was very large, quiet, private and clean. I slept great! The mini bar refrigerator was not cooling (I did not report it until departure) and it was impossible to use the shower without water going onto the bathroom floor. Those are my only complaints. The hotel, overall, was very quiet. I do not know the current occupancy, but the grand salon was generally empty.

How did it get a 4-5star rating? This is a 1 star.

This hotel was the worst I’ve ever stayed in in terms of comfort and service. We arrived with lots of bags and no greeting or baggage assistance outside. The inside is extremely tired and old and dark and smells of mold. Our room was at the end of a long corridor which smelled so bad that I had to hold my breath. The room was very large and had two terraces. The room was photographed in a way that it appeared quite lovely. However, the terraces were dirty with dust and dirt and bird droppings. The cushions were dirty. Perhaps the worst thing about the room was the bed. It was extremely large, but was simply a thin mattress on top of what seem to be an army cot. Absolutely no support. Everytime someone moved in the bed. it squeaked so loudly the other person would wake up. I began to sleep with my head where the feet were supposed to be because it seemed to squeak less The sheets were polyester and so scratchy I had to wear socks in the bed. The pillows were not unlike pieces of wood with a pillowcase. They were so hard it was nearly impossible to sleep. The shower was so complicated with yesterday‘s technology that it took two of us to figure out how to make it work. The technology included a radio in the shower, which gives some idea of how old it was. The breakfast room was equally terrible. It was obviously at one time very elegant but that was at least 100 years ago. It was dark and it smelled bad and seemed to be dirty. The breakfast offerings were not appetizing.

It is a beautiful and elegant hotel. Salvatore, the concierge, makes you feel as though you are the only guest in the hotel. He chose wonderful restaurants for us and was attentive to our every need. All the staff went out of their way to make our stay perfect.

My wife and I just spent our honeymoon here.

The property was absolutely gorgeous, the staff were very kind, courteous, and extremely helpful. The concierge even checked his own wallet when I asked if they could break a €50 and the till didn’t have the right change.

The lobby is beautiful, the stunning wide staircase with a lion statue and columns all the way up is breathtaking. Further inside there are painted ceilings, historic artwork, and tasteful furniture.

We had drinks brought up to the lemon terrace, filled with lemon trees and strawberry plants, we even saw adorable lizards. The views from the terrace of the Spanish steps and the San Carlo al Corso were fantastic.

Our room had two terraces facing Via Del Corso and sitting outside every night with a view of Saint Peter’s Basilica was one of the highlights of every day. The canvas awning over our terrace had a rip in so we didn’t use it, one of the rungs on our curtains was also broken off. Other than that there was nothing wrong with the room at all.

It was very hot while we were there in July with temperatures regularly approaching 40 degrees, the ac struggled a bit to cool the room, but we found if we left the doors closed to the sleeping area itself it wasn’t too bad.

Just two blocks away you can find dozens of restaurants, a convenience store, pharmacy, and a grocery store not far away either. Close to most main tourist spots.

We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a central luxury stay.

Deluxe rooms are spacious but I recommend an executive suite. 2 large rooms with amazing balcony views and a spacious livingroom to relax in.

First room the gave us had no shower, 2nd room no coffee maker or snacks in mini bar and the shower was broken it would wet the entire bathroom. They tried fixing it but, did not. Roof top bar closed and in disrepair. Repair personnel working throughout the property. The hotel is beautiful but, needs major upgrades throughout.

This hotel has an excellent location. Most all attractions are in walking distance. The hotel itself is very old 19th century edifice. First room we got was supposed to be an upgrade but bathroom flooded after shower. We were moved to a smaller room. Most electrical outlets did not work. At $700+ a night I expect better accommodations. No working restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast was routine continental stuff. Asked for omelette and was told it would cost extra. Staff was very friendly and eager to help. Room service only till noon. We had early flight on checking out day and couldn’t get breakfast, asked for credit but declined stating since we didn’t book directly no credit. The hotel has beautiful interior areas but not worth the price.

First, the hotel is beautiful, the staff were very helpful, and the bed was wonderful. That’s the end of the good stuff.
The room needed MUCH more light. Electric outlets were all near floor, and we had to get on hands and knees with flashlight to charge phones and plug in electric kettle. Huge room but no comfortable seating at all.
Breakfast very disappointing. Set up to look great, but it was a mirage. Bacon was distinctly old and bad-tasting.
I submit this with regret.

It was good , clean room, great location.Wonderful drivers for pick at airport and dropofff.
The cleaning staff had no slippers( usually they do) no hard soap only liquid.
We are regulars of this hotel for years. No early check in was available. We arrived at 11:00am and waited till almost 4:00pm after 10hr flight. Again no early check in when we stayed 2nights before returning home.

The Grand Plaza Hotel been around for many years. Its dark but lots of arts and marble. We reserve a Delx room. The bathroom was remodeled but didn't have a shower only bath tub. The cabinets & furniture are very old. The beds are very cheap and extremely uncomfortable. Its like sleeping on springs. The mattress was very cheap, and the springs was very hard. The front desk service are extremely helpful and willing to assist.

While this hotel definitely needs a major facelift, it’s full of charm. The staff is very attentive and they breakfast is lavish set in a sumptuous environment. The best part is undoubtedly the terraces overlooking Roman rooftops. The rooftop bar is opening on June 15!

The hotel itself was beautiful, given its history and interior design. The location was central and perfect when traveling with teens.
We had booked two rooms and upon checking in were upgraded to spectacular family suites.

Room was not what paid for Or as listed. Very small. Not as described at all. Headboards not attached bed frames are very cheap steal frame with springs. Bathroom was not as described. Far away from 6 stars hotel , very old rooms even i asked for renovated room , no parking even they mentioned, parking private parking 30 min away from the hotel 65€ per day !! And very poor bedding and very poor breakfast , one of my bad choices , and hotel Management just said sorry no response bad hospitality poor service I highly recommend to remove it from Expedia or downgraded to hotel without stars !!

Read this! There’s a trick to making this hotel experience good! Ask to see your room and another. Some are old but clean yet a bit dark and rough. Some are updated and bright. The reception was very kind in giving us a choice. We took the bright one. Huge room for a hotel in Rome. The hotel is old and quirky! It is clean, just has character! The staff could not have been more kind during our 10 day stay. Room service lightening fast or very very slow. Hey, it’s Italy. The location is the best part of the hotel.

We loved the location of the property and staff was outstanding! We felt the rooms needed upkeep, as they were tired or run down. The plugs did not work , we had to unplug the lamps in order to use the outlets, there was no shower and the bathroom door would get stuck. When using the bathroom water would overflow out and had to put several towels to keep it controlled. The mattress of the bed was hard and worn down as well. Definitely not a 5 star hotel due to the room. The common areas of the property are beautiful. The rooms definitely need to be remodeled.

MY WIFE AND I STAYED AT THE PLAZA FOR ONE WEEK. ONE WORD DESCRIBES THIS 5 STAR PROPERTY WITH TREMENDOUS CHARACTER AND LUSHNESS: FABULOUS! THE LOCATION ON VIA DEL CORSO IS THE BEST AND ALL MAJOR SIGHTS ARE EASILY WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. THE INTERIOR OF THE PROPERTY IS LIKE THE SISTINE CHAPEL! THE ROOM WAS NEARLY 800 SQUARE FEET. this place is a complete trap

i saw the website and really loved the vibe and was super excited to stay here.

but i was super disappointed and horrified - i don't know how this place is supposed to be 5 stars.

first of all, the room was really dirty, it's quite dusty and there's many signs of poorly maintained areas (is that even a thing? poorly maintained?)

and they didn't give us water the first day and there's no tea kettle? (it's 5€ to rent and 20€ if you want tea/coffee set)

oh, the toilet is dysfunctional and the water goes down the sink incredibly slow.

the bed mattress is the kind that has springs and they are so worn in that if you sit/lie on the edge you WILL fall off.

when we asked for more towels, they said they don't have anymore at the moment so we were given robes.

the wifi also doesn't work from our room (#355)

aside from the decor and the location, i have nothing good to say about this place. i would never stay here again.

The place has a good location on everything and the hotel has a history, staff's are nice and friendly. But overall its outdated like the TV is old, shower, toilets are not properly maintained this service is not well thought about because during breakfast you have to wait for a while, and the food are all the same and not enough staff's, I've seen guests leave during breakfast because of the waiting time throughout our 4 days stay every. And the housekeeping are well not organized due to lack of items missing and you have to request for it, and if you are take a gym their are not enough equipment only two trendmills 1 exercise bike and for weight lifting exercises lots are missing we have to only use what we can and there is no WATER and towels for you to drink and use while doing your exercises. Overall it's alright but for the amount of money you pay on a 5 star hotel I don't think it's worth it. In my own honest opinion.

Great location. Beautiful and historic property with beautiful lobby area. The room was interesting but didn’t really meet our needs. On several occasions I asked for a room with 2 separate beds (traveling with my teenage daughter) and what they gave me were two twin beds pushed together as one larger bed, so we had to pull them apart and when we did the bed frames practically fell apart. Beds not too comfortable. The bathroom had no standing shower but all the pictures showed showers so that was disappointing - it had a tub and a shower attachment to the tub, with no shower curtain for privacy, so the best you could do was sit on edge of tub and give yourself a partial shower which was weird. I showed this to our bellman when we checked in he just shrugged. Pointed to attachment and said yes I have a shower. Beds not too comfortable. Rooftop terrace and bar area very nice, but service was very slow. Same for lobby restaurant and breakfast buffet - 35 eu for buffet and food was not good and service very slow (and somewhat indifferent). All in all a nice hotel but I expected more for the price.

Great Location!

Grand Hotel Plaza is located in a great part of the city. Older lobby and classic italian great room.
Service was fantastic.Room was typical older italian. If you are looking for modern, don't look here. But older Grand style Hotel, with decent rooms, and a fantastic location? Go here. Get a room that looks toward the garden for a quiet night.

The five star Grand Hotel Plaza is like staying with a rich dowager aunt in Rome’s busy shopping district. The Maitre staff felt like family who were intent on showcasing the best Rome has to offer. The ebullient Alla K organised our tours with the attentiveness of a favourite cousin. She helped to navigate the Via del Corso which is the main connection between the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Colonia. The surrounding roads are lined with all the top designer shops and local artisans. There are also a number of discount designer outlets with a minimum of 70% off.
The Piazza di Spagna (Spanish steps) are a five to ten minute walk (depending on your pace) from the hotel. The roads between the Via del Corso and the Piazza di Spagna are lined with excellent shops and eateries. I would recommend Venchi (25/26 Via della Croce) for Gelato (Ice cream) and luxury chocolates. For mouth watering Dulce (sweet treats) try Pompi Tiramisu (82 Via della Croce). The Dami cafe (52 Via della Croce) offers excellent coffee and light bites. Grano Frutta e Farina bakery (49 Via della Croce) has delicious Pizza and sandwiches including vegetarian and vegan options. If you wish to repose in the hotel the Maitre breakfast Loredana will ensure you are well prepared for the day ahead. She insisted I have a fresh espresso because it had cooled down before I had a chance to drink it. The little details are what make staying at the Grand Hotel Plaza a delight.

I loved the building itself. The history and my favourite rooms were the reception and main lounge. Very opulent and lavish. Room 333 does not reflect this unfortunately and is very small and tired. The shelf in the wardrobe was not fixed and flipped up! We were moved to room 440 which was better but the shower had seen better days and needs to be replaced. We fed this back at reception so I’m hoping this is rectified soon as it’s such a shame for such an amazing hotel and staff.

This hotel has huge potential if they just work on the rooms furniture, being sort of an old castle in the center of the city is not enough to overwhelm customers and claim 5 star, yes the staff are welcoming but with the worn out furniture and squeaky bed Has left me with mixed feelings.
Here are few things I didn’t like:
Very limited mini bar
Limited TV stations (only CNN in English, rest are Italian!)
No cattle coffee or tea
No water bottles
No bath robes/slippers u have to order them
Bed and bedding is not so comfortable as 5 stars hotels
No lights central lock/switch as you have to walk around the room to turn on/off all lights
Yet I liked the fancy reception and dinners halls and big plus for the location.

Location was fantastic and their customer service was outstanding. I complained about our beds in our room onnthe first night and we were moved immediately to an upgraded room. Rooms were big and very spacious, and the lobby bar area is beautiful.

The location is excellent, staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was not as they were in the pictures although I have booked for a superior room. There were small aunt's in the wardrobe, something that you should not expect in a 5 star hotel.

It Can’t Get Any Better

Amazing facility. Staff were wonderful, helpful, happy and very professional. We especially enjoyed the “Happy Birthday” treats, the gracious accommodations and visiting with Superman each morning. A very spectacular space and staff.
