The shared bathroom facilities were damaged and filthy, toilet bowls were clean.that was it. Beside the all night construction noise, some guests had no regard for others. The aircon poking through the window added to noise from outside because you couldnt close the window!! Not to mention the insects. The mattress is disgusting and needs at least a clean mattress protector if new clean mattresses can't be provided ... i was there for the impending death of a loved one and could not find a closer hotel..we just stayed out until we had to rest and then had limited respite from the kaos and filth

Absolutely outdated hostel. The elevator doesn't work, the room was on the fifth floor. The room itself was tiny, no air conditioning and extremely loud.

My experience of/at Nomads Brisbane Hostel began a month ago and two days ago today. Upon booking in, I intended to stay for a week. Due to two circumstances, both extreme yet both largely unrelated (the later, however, being the boarder closure), it has become my home and for (?)…
Thankfully, as my form of exercise, so far the unexpected beauty of the city has revealed itself to me thru my camera lens.
Boasting 'We Beat Any Price’, Nomads is self assuredly safe within its competition. Therefore, condition wise, expect what you pay for. But in this time of global uncertainty, more importantly humanity wise, expect more.
Over the month, I’ve observed it become the beaming example of a place of necessity. Considering this time last week it housed 17 guests to its 500+ beds, if management has demonstrated the odd level of anxiety, it's a relief knowing that they are human. As the staff have adjusted to changes in law that are rewriting the book of hospitality from how, only weeks ago, we knew it.
But by doing so with kind yet firm measure over didactic discipline, the guests accordingly oblige - dropping the odd question where necessary. This has created a house of unity in a time of dispersion which is a credit to all concerned.
I highly recommend Nomads Brisbane Hostel by the best example of the present into a readjusting future

Liked the location which suited me , close to central station. I used nomads for 3-4 months in between going back to Melbourne and Sunshine Coast to visit my terminally ill brother on Sunshine Coast . I regularly purchased single room or 4 bed dorm night by night so I must have spent thousands there . After first few weeks I asked staff if I could leave my big bag there as I will be back next day which was fine .
I regularly extended in the morning if I knew I was staying in Brisbane that day or I checked out if there was a chance of me being called up to Sunshine Coast . Often I would hang out in common rooms like many others who had checked out and awaiting transport etc etc . I would often rebook late in evening , either coming back from coast or if in brissy . The regular night shift guy was very pleasant to deal with and knew my booking would always come through if he seen me there . The last time I stayed there I checked out ad usual and was in and out of common room through out day . I didn’t end up making a booking that night as I was told about a 24 hour Internet cafe so I decided to work there for the night . I had to come back to my bag after midnight to get a SIM card , which took 2 mins then I left .
Seems a couple of the ani Australian staff members didn’t like this and felt need to get me banned by the manager . I was not told , back on sunny coast a couple days and rebooked and found out trying to check in . Spent 4 k at that place - lovely

It's a great place to stay in brisbane if you want to be close to everything. It's a little bit noisy and there is sometimes a lot of people in the common areas. The building is kinda old and they could use a revamp in the showers and toilets. The staff is super nice.

Room was very tiny & very hot. Bed was comfy & everywhere was clean. My main issue was the man trying very forcefully to make me book a trip to Fraser Island.. after making it clear I wouldn’t be booking today as I had other friends to meet up with & discuss the rest of our plans , he was extremely pushy & in the end rude.. not a good way to try get people to book activities through Nomads!!!

Dryer took 3 hours of drying to dry one load, bathrooms dirty, especially the sinks, WiFi is lacking and only free in the lobby which lacks sufficient comfortable seating. Laundry costs and arm and a leg. Self-proclaimed party hostel but doesn't allow Alcohol in rooms and visitors can't stay past 7pm. I expect this is due to their partnership with the down under bar that's on the basement level.

Staff were very friendly And tried to be helpful! But the rooms and bathrooms were not clean. The Aircon sucked and there are only about 3 outlets in an 8 person room. When i told the staff the aircon wasn't working and the other girls in my room had already claimed the 2 fans he said \"well thats unfortunate\". A very large hostel where everyone is looking for a job. So don't stay here as a solo backpacker trying to meet people. Saw cockroaches my first day and the staff told me this is normal for Australia. And there was some other type of small bug in the lockers. Hostel is very large, way too many people and it's def a party hostel. Had trouble with my keycard 4 different times so I had to run up and down the stairs about 20 times. Which isn't to fun at 11pm when I want to sleep and everyone in the room is asleep so I can't just knock on the door. Kitchen is large which was good since there was so many people , did see a bug in the dry storage area. If you are looking for a job the hostel will help you search! And there is also a travel agent desk in the lobby to book tours. Again the staff were great , especially the man from New Zealand. He was cool !

Buzzing noise
You can expect a youth hostel in the middle of the city to be noisy, but nothing prepared me for the loud buzzing noise in my (private) room, which came from the bathroom ventilator. Earplugs were useless for this kind of noise. Even though I paid in advance for 2 nights, I got out of this hostel at 6.30 AM to get away from the buzz. They don't refund and the staff was apologetic, I got the feeling she heard that complaint before. Anyway, it's probably fine if you're drunk or not so sensitive to this kind of thing. If you are sensitive, ask for a room as far away from the bathrooms as possible. Cheers.

perfect central location, very big hostel, sometimes long waiting time at reception as many people check-in/out. Noise level was a problem, very loud music and bass coming from the bar in the cellar. Despite my room being on the 4th floor, my walls were shaking and the music could still be heard, even at 3.00 am! Wifi only in reception area, not in the rooms.

My observations.
Did not have any issues with check in/out. To get to 4th floor via lift you must have some physical abilities to hold external and internal doors of the carriage. As one girl said-\"private room\", hardly can call it private. At the moment when I open my door, everyone will wake up from a double squeak, then floor board will repeat sound of the door, when you step on it. Above every door there decorative holes, which means, doors are not sound proof. Walls inside of the room are stained from different generations stickers. Window can not be properly opened or closed. In the shower you don't have where to put your dry or/and dirty clothes. When you are trying to adjust water temperature, tap heads are falling on your bare feet. Loud music is banging until 3am with screams and loughs, possibly tenants need ear plugs. Had experience to go toilet in the bar downstairs. Entire floor was sticky and door was not closing and locking. Otherwise beer was nice with discount as a hostel tenant. There are many people of different backgrounds live in. My main concern is- cheap does not mean neglected, it is too disrespectful in many aspects.

this place is appalling wouldve rather stayed in a homeless shelter than this pig stye by the end of my stay
ive worked in 2 but stayed in so many hostels over the last 2.5 yrs so have had my share of bad experiences with hostels & know sometimes youre just unlucky but this is a new low. I will give it its positives:
+ the wifi in the lobby works which can be rare
+ central station is opposite so good transport access
Negatives however are terrible:
- you can feel & hear the music from the bar which is underground from 2 stairs up in the hostel until 4am-ish
- the inside of the hostel is as humid & hot as outside = rooms stank of everyone sweating
- there was generally a loud argument/fight to be heard late every night from the room
- we had 1 powersocket with an extension lead on another to power a portable fan, a dehumidifier that was building up a smelly bowl of water plus 8 people's phones etc in rotation. its a major hazard, must be a H&S issue.
- the hostel got trashed every night, often found food & cutlery spilled over wet floors in the hallways in the morning.
Worst hostel ive been in the world. Never thought id be able to make such a drastic statement but i stand by it. this isnt even a get what you pay for situation its just terrible. Do yourself a favour, stay elsewhere

ive worked in 2 but stayed in so many hostels over the last 2.5 yrs so have had my share of bad experiences with hostels & know sometimes youre just unlucky but this is a new low. I will give it its positives:
+ the wifi in the lobby works which can be rare
+ central station is opposite so good transport access
Negatives however are terrible:
- you can feel & hear the music from the bar which is underground from 2 stairs up in the hostel until 4am-ish
- the inside of the hostel is as humid & hot as outside = rooms stank of everyone sweating
- there was generally a loud argument/fight to be heard late every night from the room
- we had 1 powersocket with an extension lead on another to power a portable fan, a dehumidifier that was building up a smelly bowl of water plus 8 people's phones etc in rotation. its a major hazard, must be a H&S issue.
- the hostel got trashed every night, often found food & cutlery spilled over wet floors in the hallways in the morning.
Worst hostel ive been in the world. Never thought id be able to make such a drastic statement but i stand by it. this isnt even a get what you pay for situation its just terrible. Do yourself a favour, stay elsewhere

Showed and toilets were ages away from the room - with no directions to get to them. The walls were paper thin - so enjoy waking up once an hour through the night. Not many power points and no individual lights. Old facilities. Have to pay for wifi and breakfast. Felt like they were trying to get extra money when ever they could add a fee. The location of this hostel was great, but the hostel itself needs some work. The building is old, but there are still things that could be done to improve the comfort and quality of the hostel. The rooms were pretty grim, and the grill above the doors meant that it was really noisy at night. It also made you feel quite unsafe if you woke up to noises outside your door, as it sounded like they were in your room. It seems unnecessary to charge $5 for cutlery. Overall not a very pleasant stay, but close to the station at least.

Superb Location and Fantastic Staff
The hostel was directly in front of us once we got out of the airtrain from the airport. How cool is that? If you've luggage and are merely staying for just one night, this place is a no brainer! The staff were cheery, helpful and eager to please. There was a locker (bring your own lock), the bed and mattress perfectly adequate and the room was clean and reasonably warm despite it being the start of winter. The downstairs bar was closing when we arrived but they directed us to The Guilty Rogue for our late lunch and we were given 20% off on producing our key.
Though the ladies' bathrooms and toilets were clean, 2 out of the 4 bathrooms were write offs. There were 2 more ladies toilets further down the corridor. Sadly all the lifts were out of order but one of the staff was assigned to help guests with luggage. You have to pay a refundable deposit AUD 5 for the use of a set of cup and cutlery. The whole place can do with a new coat of paint. The building was a beautiful restored historical building and you can have a great view of the surrounding area. I didn't expect a lot for the comparatively LOW price I paid and overall it exceeded my realistic expectations.

I stayed in a private room booked online and upon check-in the staff member advised I had not paid for my room despite me advising I had and tried to double charge me. After 20 minutes spent waiting at reception and showing my email confirmation he finally let me up to my room. There isn't much in the room other than a bed and lamp. After getting to sleep the fire alarm went off at 3am for a good 10-20 minutes. Not the best night and the floors creak whenever people walk down the halls. The vibe that the staff have going is good and the red headed lady at reception in the morning on checkout was very friendly and helpful. If it's location your after this place is great.

would have been a much more comfortable stay had the air con worked properly, couldn't sleep till midnight due to heat in building even though air con was apparently on constantly, and tv/lounge area felt heated rather than cool and was extremely under size for number of guests seating for 5 with 100+ guests, but generally nothing ud be overly dissappointed with, just needs a little tlc n some good ideas

Not what I expected
I booked a twin room with my friend 6 weeks before we were to stay for 2 nights, and chose this hostel as it was close to central. When we arrived we were put in a double bed room, which was very small and quite run down (not what it looked like on the website). I went back down and spoke to reception, who moved us to a twin room, but it was still very run down. The aircon didn't provide any help (or maybe didn't work at all) during the hot nights, and the only way to keep the heavy windows open to get some air in was to use the bin to hold the window up. Also, the grates above the door had no glass or plastic to cover the holes, so there was no privacy in the room and nothing to filter the noise of people walking up and down the halls all night (or having sex down the hallway). Wouldn't stay here again...

It's only the location...
Nothings beats the location of this hostel! However, the 8-bed dorm I stayed in had exactly one window that could be opened - right above the night club and a busy road. Noise level is constantly high. Shower facilities are old and not well maintained. Reception staff never looked up when I was waiting. Bed linen is clean. Mattresses are worn - you can feel the springs. Shame it doesn't seem to bother with comfort.

If you're looking for somewhere to meet people and have a great time for a few days this is the place! Although no actual social area, rooms are big enough to meet and socialise in, there is a pretty cheap bar attached and a club. Barely slept during my stay, but not too much of an issue for me. A lot of people were here long term with jobs in the city or looking for jobs. Whole place feels a bit run down but pretty clean. Amazing location, easy bus and train routes to get about.

Base is great in a big dorm where you stay to party but was far from ideal in a single room for a quieter trip. The room was on the roof top terrace and the window was next to a large chimney which was twice as load as an aircon unit. Impossible to sleep through. The bathroom is further along the roof top meaning you have to go outside again to get there, just to be aware of. Can get more for money if needing a single room and not there to party. Staff are mainly short term backpackers so don't have much experience on the desk.

Nice hotel in the CBD of Brisbane. Just stayed overnight for 6 hours as had early morning flight the next day. Central location however basic room (tallboy and a bed with nothing else). Probably would not stay here if was more than one night but if on a budget and after a basic room would recommend. Great for budget travelers,students and backpackers

First things first, you get what you pay for. It a great location, and has what you need if you are looking for somewhere to crash. If you are looking for anything but a room, a bed, and a questionable shared bathroom, look elsewhere - but thankfully, this is exactly what we were after.

The hostel was good but the lift has to be more modern and fixed. The overrall service and con dition was so good. It is central and accessible to all public transport and key brisbane location which made my stay and purpose of visit very easy.
