I've stayed here mutiple times and nothing has changed, though that's mostly good - it's a very good value for money - simple, a little worn down, clean hotel with great and helpful staff. Close to the center of the city, free parking outside on the street, though they have a secured parking a couple of minutes walk away. The wallks are thin but fortunately it didn't matter this time.

Staff excellent, very clean room, in my room very bad Wi-Fi, at night little bit noisy.
Excellent commuting to the centre and very easy with Tram 7 & 14 always available and the tram stop is just at front of the hotel, very convenient.
Also at the front of the hotel there is Maxima shop everything is available food, drinks etc..

Great Management.

This hotel is kind of away from the main tourist area, but it’s quiet and clean; and, the tram is so easy and fast. The market is 2-3 stops. It’s basic accommodation, but comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. There was an issue with some other guests, and management was quick to respond.

Dodo Hotel - affordable, clean hotel

Upon arrival, the male receptionist who checked us in was very friendly and helpful.
Our room was very clean and cosy; the shower room and toilet were clean too.
Our buffet breakfast each day was good - choices: cereal, yogurt, croissants, cheese/cooked meats/toast/ assorted jams/orange juice/tea/coffees. The breakfast room staff were very friendly and helpful and would make you an omelette if you asked them.
We stayed at The Dodo Hotel as the reviews were good. The nearest tram stop to the hotel is about 10/15 yards away from the hotel entrance. It was so easy to get a tram into/back from the city centre.
We did walk to the city centre a few times but it takes about 20 minutes. It only costs just over 1 Euro for a single tram ticket which you can buy from any of the Harveson shops.
The Maxima supermarket (about 25 yards from the hotel entrance) was great for any snacks/sweets/beer we wanted.
We would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.

It was a short distance from the tram stop, a few stops from the bus station. A bit of a confusing check in experience, I was on the ground floor but was told the room was on the first floor. After that everything was good, comfortable room, not too hot, even though I closed the window as it was next to the road.

You get here by getting the no. 22 bus from the airport to the city centre then get tram no. 7. Hotel looks modern but the surrounding area is the opposite. Desk is 24 hrs which helps if you arrive near to midnight like I did. Staff were very friendly, I did not get any hint of any frustration from the staff when requiring any help. Close to city centre. Only complaint was that the bathroom and especially the shower were tiny.

We changed hotel after 5min stay.

After slow checking we entered the room, it was like hot Sauna, no air conditioner. So, we asked our money back, what was impossible, due low qualified receptionist, manager will arrive just next day. Only way was walk a way and take other hotel.

The check in staff were very polite and helpful. The rooms were fine and seemed clean enough. The walls did seem very thin; you could hear everything that went on in the surrounding rooms including steps, voices and toilet flush etc. The location is bad; over half an hours walk into the centre of Riga and nothing to do or see in the nearby neighbourhood. All in all good value for money and decent dor a low cost hotel.

The Dodo is a Nice comfortable up-to-date hotel, the beds are comfortable and seem to be new, the rooms are very clean quiet and comfortable. Staff are very helpful and it’s a good idea to take advantage of their budget taxi service ask at the desk. Breakfast are very good. This was my second stay at the dodo and I would certainly book again.

Worth the money

Stayed there with a group of students and another teacher. Our booking had to be changed a little by the hotel but the people in the reception were helpful in all ways. The location is rather good, about 25 minutes from old town Riga. All of us slept quite good and the breakfast was ok...not a lot to choose from but fine. The price was the best thing...more than well worth the money

Breakfast experience was awful with us needing to ask a security staff to get us a cup to be able to get some coffee, is never food as all plates empty with mould bread served or no bread. Staff unhelpful and ingnoring your issue. Never again at this hotel.

Dodo hotel was a great base to explore Riga on a budget. It's cheap, the rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. The area is a little run down and there's not much to see in the immediate area, but the Old Town is only a few minutes away and there is a tram stop directly outside the hotel. Fantastic breakfast!

Mixed impressions from stay in a budget hotel

staying there for lat 5 years. Felt pretty good before, however, the property is stagnating, not much development taking place.
Good things: very fast check-in and check-out, good WiFi, low price, coffee machine in the lobby.
Things not so amazing: breakfast is definitely not worth 6 euros extra payment- got worse over recent years; a TV of a size of 15-inch monitor in a year of 2018 is a bad joke; holder screws of shelves and other holders (shower head) getting loose.
Summary: a stay for few days is OK, but don't expect much.

Large, clean room. Soundproofing was not the best though even with me using ear plugs. They don’t have an elevator, but they do have someone that will help you with your bags.
The surrounding area is not the best looking, but I had no problem walking around in the evenings.

Good value for the price. My room was clean and had everything I needed. The only drawback was the area. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to Old Town, but you can take the tram into the city center if you buy a ticket beforehand (no ticket booth at the stop near the hotel).

The bathrooms were poorly maintained, unclean and no paper towels or toilet paper. Communal kitchen was very dirty. Three showers available but only the large women's shower was open for everyone to use. While it is modern design with clean lines, I thought it was pretty slummy.

Modern Hotel in old neighbourhood

Hotel is clean and attractively decorated. My room but compact, but spacious enough. Ample power points, fast wifi and a large desk were great assets. The bathroom was small but clean with modern fittings.
Some reviewers were put off by the hotel's neighbourhood. With its acres of cobbles over the roads, tram lines and old buildings in various stages of dilapidation and restoration, it does look like old pictures of Manchester circa 1910. But I had no problems.
The cobbles certainly magnify noise from any passing vehicle, even a small car going down the road outside my window. I left my window open due to the lack of air conditioning, so the rubber-on-cobbles thrumming was added to the distant background hum of the city.
Best asset is the No 7 tram route; the stop to city centre is less than 50 metres from the front door. The tram service is frequent for most of the day and evening. It takes you straight to the bus station, rail station and heart of the tourist areas on each side of Bastion Hill park; the line runs up the west side of this lovely park and stops outside the Opera House and National Theatre. 5 day ticket costs 15 euros for unlimited travel on Riga buses, trolleybuses and trams.

Good budget hotel in a very run down area

Hotel is located about one mile from the Old Town, area is run down and each walk into town me and my partner were approached by homeless. Was advised by locals to get a taxi back at night, this was only 5 euros so not an issue. Hotel has very thin walls, could hear everything my neighbors were doing so be warned. Overall the hotel is clean, smart an staff are excellent.

Needed a hotel for one night before a flight that was conveniently located and offered free parking and wifi. This hotel was decent, clean and did the job at a very good price. The rooms are smallish but decent and have coffee and tea making machine. Was perfect for what I required for a night.

The neighborhood is run down, not bad

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The neighborhood looks rough around the edges, but that is just Riga in general. The city is in transition. It is actually a very vibrant city. I felt safe here. The hotel is very convenient to public transportation. This place will save you money on a more expensive hotel near Old Town, yet will provide the same type of service and value.

Spoilt by Stag Do of 20 guys from Middlesborough

The hotel was good value at this price. Unfortunately the stay was spoilt by a stag do of 20 guys from Middlesborough. They drank 24 hours a days and all smoked at the entrance to the hotel. They were generally loud, lewd and abusive causing damage to the hotel and general atmosphere. I would avoid staying at this hotel again just because of the stag group.

25 mins walk to old town through an area you would not want to walk alone. Rooms are not sound proof at all. Beds were very uncomfortable, felt like sleeping on an old sofa. Breakfast was far from being worth 6 euros.... I would have still been disappointed if it was included. If you're looking for a cheap hotel, the hotel itself is secure and OK for one night.

Peace and quiet.....off the beaten track

I've Stayed here a number of times....the rooms are clean,warm and comfortable, and include free hi-speed WIFI. They include a free 5 minute phone call to anywhere in the world. Breakfast, if not ordered in advance can be purchased separately for 6 euros....not bad for an all you can eat affair. They also have a mini bar at reception where one can purchase beer & wine (although not after 10pm) The No 7 tram stop 'DAUGAVPILS' is 100 yards from the front door, with the intervening space well lit, and even though the area is fairly rough you don't feel too unsafe. Best of all are the staff, most of whom speak very English, and will usually go out of their way to be helpful. All in all a great little find.

Yes the distance on the map looks close enough to the city, however you can tell that this is not a place to walk on your own, so you need a taxi. There is no refrigerator in the room to keep a bottle of water or a soda in proper temperature, the TV is smaller than an Ipad and there is no phone in the room.
On the other hand the hotel staff are all exceptional and well done for that

Great hotel. Nice helpful staff. Smallish rooms but lots of little nice touches. Great value for money. The neighbourhood might concern some timid people but I was happy enough walking back at night. Its a 25 minute walk to the Old Town, a bit less to the markets, but there is a tram outside the hotel which takes you right there. We'll go back next time we are in Riga!

Clean and quiet hotel....less than 100 yrds from main tram route into Riga, also links with local taxi firm....English speaking reception staff who are very courteous, and in the event of any difficulties (even non-hotel related) will go out of their way to help.....Secure Broadband that actually works...Breakfast is very good quality.....All in all a very good hotel - comfort on a budget

Very nice hotel, but far from city center

Our room was very nice and the staff was quite accomodating. The only drawback is the location. It's not in a bad neighborhood, but you would need to take public transportation or drive to get downtown. It is within walking distance of a mall, which was very convenient for dinner when we didn't feel like driving into the city.

- Reasonably well located, central. Unfortunately, internet access was not possible on the night of my stay. Hotel staff were kind enough to investigate this - and it was resolved in the morning. Other than that, good value for money - was clean, secure and that's all I was looking for. Can hear stuff from the corridor and next room - so build quality could have been better - but it's a modern Hotel otherwise.

Nice and modern hotel, with clean and new rooms.
It's not in the city centre, but only 5 minutes tu the city centre by tram, you can take it in the door of the hotel. Also there are some advantages like phone-free & free wi-fi.
On the other hand the main disadvantage is that there is no lift despite the hotel is new and the room is no big. The surrounding neighborhood is quite despite the buildings are a little bit old, no restaurants and, but there are some places you can take something for dinner. Famous Lido is only 5 minutes by tram.
It's cheap and very good relationship relation quality-price.

Dodo Hotel in Riga, Latvia

It's not a bad place, I've stayed there twice. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast, it's not really worth the money. There isn't anything extra, nothing outstandingly nice about the hotel itself. The surrounding neighborhood is pretty sketchy, but it's pretty easy to get to with public transportation and it is pretty close to Lido, a decent restaurant with good Latvian food. Overall, I can't complain about anything because it is one of the cheapest one can find in Riga.

Why pay more?

It is immaculately clean and comfortable with very helpful staff. The location isn't too far a walk from the city attractions or is easily accessible by tram, though if you do want a taxi, make sure you use the hotel approved ones otherwise you could be stung. At these excellent rates, I would definitely return.

Bargain modern hotel

Lovely modern hotel a short tram ride away from central Riga. Almost looks out of place surrounded by old wooden buidlings. Rooms included flat screen TV and trendy marble sink. Hotel prides iteself on being the cheapest hotel close to Old Town but not actually located in Old Town. Took about 25 minutes to walk to central Riga/Old Town (just followed the tram tracks) but much easier just to ride the tram as the journey takes about 8 minutes. Would recommend this hotel - excellent price as well. I have paid more for hostels and I paid for this place.

Dodo Hotel in Riga - Good for budget travelers

The hotel was new and clean, but it's been hotter than usual here in Latvia and there was no air conditioning which led to a long, very hot night. The neighborhood is a bit out of the way, but it's right across the street from a tram stop that takes you into Old Riga in one direction, and two stops away from the famous Lido Restaurant in the opposite direction. Although the neighborhood has a less-than-stellar reputation, I never felt unsafe. The breakfast was pretty good, and the staff were all friendly. I would recommend the hotel to anyone looking to spend the least amount of money possible but still be comfortable outside of the hottest time of the year.

Cheap, Convenient, but would avoid again

This place has a great location and a great price. Draw-backs are the neighbourhood, which is pretty sketch and the noise in the hotel. Sound got into our room from the rest of the hotel far too well and it dramatically affected my sleep.

You get what you pay for and it's excellent value for money, but I would pick somewhere a little less convenient next time to avoid the draw-backs above.

Good, clean quality hotel..... not as dead as the name suggests!!!

Brilliant hotel 4 tram stops from the main area. staff v v friendly, rooms clean and very new. bed strangley low down and tv small and fixed high on wall. We have had better breakfasts but this was certainly not the worst. would definately reccommend this hotel for budget travel thats not a hostel.

Best deal for your money

It's hard to beat the Dodo Hotel as far as deals go. We could have stayed at a hostel for about the same price, but why share a bathroom or forgo a window if you can have a nice, private room for such a great price?

I read reviews before I went and people commented on the surrounding neighborhood. It is run down, but I never felt unsafe. It's an easy walk to Old Town and I didn't feel unsafe making the walk at night. The tram stop is right next to the hotel if you decide not to walk and transportation is cheap.

My only problem was the breakfast. It was overpriced for what it was. Skip the breakfast, but definitely check out this hotel.

New Hotel on Tram Route to Old Riga

Apparently, DODO means GOOD SLEEP in French and I slept well every night from day one!

DODO Hotel provides good accommodation at a very affordable price. The accommodation is fairly basic but there is a full en-suite (albeit very small). There is a lack of wardrobe space and coat hangers and there are no net curtains even though my window opened onto a courtyard where hotel staff regularly walked.

Hotel desk staff speak at least three languages (Latvian, Russian, English). There is always a TAXI waiting outside the hotel entrance even though the hotel is quite small. For daily travel into Riga there is a frequent tram service at a cost of 0.60 Lats (75 pence).

The hotel, although new and modern, is situated in a rather run-down area of Riga with cobbled streets and many unoccupied buildings. However, I did not feel it was an unsafe area of the city and happily walked out at night.

The hotel has FREE WI-FI which was a real boon to staying in touch with friends and relatives but it was not always reliable. On two days there was also problems with no water supply to my room for short periods but I do not know if this was hotel problem or a more general problem.

The rooms do not have a safe either but there is a locked storage room for bags (free of course) and also a safe haven with staff for smaller items (such as a passport).

I was very happy with my stay at the DODO Hotel and definitely recommend it!

For the price absolutely acceptable hotel

It is a simple hotel, rather new, clean, English speaking personal at the desk. Price and hotel/rooms fit. Area of the hotel is bad. The are is badly recommendate. Taxi price agreement with hotel and smileTaxi company is quite ok.

basic hotel

The facilities at the Dodo hotel are modern but basic,it does however present excellent value for money as compared to other hotels in Riga.It is a 15 minute walk to the Old town but the tram stops outside every 10 minutes so that is only an issue after midnight,a taxi costs about 6lats.

Cheap and clean

A totally non smoking hotel, no bar.
A little too far from city certre but would reccomend for a budget traveller. eg stay out all day and have a comfortable CLEAN room to come back to.

Good v.f.m. but read the traveller's tip

Clean rooms, friendly staff, value for money. Very quiet too, until a horde of rampaging Finnish schoolchildren arrived that is. Breakfast is Ok if you like pancakes, it's worth having at least once to see the automatic pancake machine in action! The hotel is situated in the rundown area of town, it looks worse than it actually is, but it is about 30 mins walk to the old town.

Good hotel for the price and qualty

However, the 20 minute walk from the old city (where most of the bars, shops, and historical sitse are) is creepy at night. If that bothers you, don't stay here!
