Great location, 24 hours attendance. Parking is a bit tricky, but once you understand, it's fine. There aren't many cars in front of the hotel anyways.

The room was VERY small, more like a single room than a double. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, 1 tiny pillow,more the size of a cushion than a pillow. The bathroom needed a deep clean, the shower kept going cold and for the 5 days that we were there, our room didn't get cleaned once, even when we had left the sign on the door asking for our room to be serviced, so much so that one morning the hoover was left outside another room, so we borrowed it for 5 minutes whilst we hoovered our own room.
The lady on reception that initially checked us in did not look up from what she was doing when we first entered reception and after standing there for a minute or so, she then, again without looking at us, raised her finger to indicate that she would be a moment, she was helpful when she gave us her attention but I felt that her initial greeting was a little unprofessional.
The breakfast was chaotic and woefully understaffed, we only ate in the actual restaurant once in 5 days, the rest of the days we had to go upstairs into their overflow breakfast room. This entailed carrying your breakfast plate of food, cup of coffee, glass of juice, cuttlery etc up a flight of stairs,,,would maybe be an idea to have a stash of cuttlery etc in the room upstairs to save the 2 journeys up and down the stairs.
The area of Riga is stunning, the hotel however, not so much, unless we were just unlucky with our room and experience?

Great 3 star hotel for the all inclusive price we paid for hotel and flights. Rooms were clean, smart, with ensuite bathroom and included breakfast. Staff were nice and pleasant. Rooms refreshed if you leave the 'please refresh my room' sign on your door. In fact, it was a brilliant hotel for the price and dead central (a few mins walk to main bus station where the number 22 -airport bus- is every 10 minutes.
Will definitely stay at this hotel again for its value and location.

Hotel is in a quiet area about 20 mins walk from the old town. The outside and reception areas look nice. The room was ok but in need of some decoration. Comfy bed and I slept well. The shower head didn’t fit the holder which wasn’t convenient and there was no plug for the sink. Breakfast choice was limited although what food was there was ok. For the price it suited my needs for a couple of nights.

I really liked my stay here. I was on the top floor and it was always quiet. My room overlooked a street but there was never any traffic noise because the \"traffic circle\" was blocked so the road basically ended. The only vehicles you would see were taxis. The windows were nice and opened wide. Front desk staff were wonderful. I couldn't open my room safe and an employee came up in 10 minutes as promised.

Breakfast was the same everyday but that was ok...the only thing was the egg custard--though good--was barely warm to downright cold all of the time.

The room was pretty roomy and the bathroom was super nice.

I have read other reviews saying the neighborhood was sketchy. To me it wasn't that way at all--it only looked that way because it was old in the area. I walked the area at all hours and never had one problem. The trams and busses were only a block or two away.

Receptionists were very friendly and helpful at the hotel. But breakfast was terrible. The members of staff at breakfast were tired, unhappy and unhelpful. The male member of staff said in Russian’ I can’t wait for everyone to be out of here”. They were moving slowly, not filling food, cups and plates on time. I had to ask for cups, plates, food and wait for everything for a while. But that’s their work. Staff should make sure that breakfast is available for everyone. Staff don’t care.

The hotel is located right beside one of the biggest buildings in Riga so it's easy to get your bearings if you're walking. It's VERY close to Old town and all the markets. And there is a nice restaurant right in the hotel.

Hotel in a perfect location,not far from old town and many attractions.Nice and clean,great room.
However-had to keep asking for a cup in my room for a coffee,as it doesn’t get replaced and if you want more than one drink-you’ve had it as 1 sachet of coffee per day!!
Also not a big enough dining area-if you ask where to go when it’s full-staff in restaurant just shrug their shoulders-I heard that the banquet room upstairs can be used-but it was locked.
Would be 5 stars but for the things I’ve mentioned.

Billed as a spa hotel I would have expected to be able to use the facilities free of charge as I was a paying guest but there was an additional charge. Apparently there was only a sauna and a steam room of which I used neither. The room was OK but the quilt didn't cover the whole bed so we had to get the spare out of the wardrobe and it didn't have a cover on it. When I asked at reception for a cover they did immediately send one to the room for me to put on myself. The breakfast was adequate and top marks to the hotel for opening the restaurant early on the Sunday for those taking part in the marathon weekend.

Great location, walkable to old town and the market. Breakfast was great. My only concern is that the bedroom re add on dusty, the window closing so dusty. My ring fell on the floor so I have to look for it, when I moved the side table, discovered that the room needs vacuuming thick dust under the bed and side table.

If bed is being move and vacuum it even on a weekly basis, it won’t accumulate such dust.

Stayed here before, and enjoyed my stay so came back again. Reception staff are so lovely and willing to help, as well as restaurant staff. Room had strange issue where reading light could not be switched on if main light was off. Also power sockets turned off when main light was switched off. This was a small issue, and did not happen last time. Overall a great stay

Pleasant hotel, tidy and clean bedroom and bathroom. Continental style breakfast with a cooked egg/sausage/bacon option was adequate. Ten minutes walk from the centre. An English channel on the TV would have been nice, similarly milk to go with the coffee and kettle.

The morning's breakfast is a disaster due to the lack of seating , people had to stand a wait during so made getting your breakfast more difficult due to lack of room to move . The room is far to small to hold for breakfast .

We arrived, late on Sunday night and checked into the room.
I turned on the heating in the room. And went to bed.
The following morning. I itched a little,but went down for the good breakfast and out for the day.
When I got up the following morning. The room has warmed up and I was covered with about 12 bits and on closer inspection I found bed bugs.
I took a picture and went to reception and they moved me to another room. After that, everything was fine.

The room looked better in the pictures than in real life. I had booked one double bed for two people, but they gave us two separate beds pushed together. That would have been fine, but they also provided two small, separate blankets instead of one large one.

This hotel is one for the books. It is conveniently located in a quiet portion of the city but still accessible to public transport and food stores. Employees were well-versed in English and had no difficulty communicating with them. The rooms are also clean and tidy and the most important thing is there is a water heater for tea and coffee which I really appreciate. Breakfast is also a delight as it promotes Baltic specialities like the herring which I love.

Hotel is very tired and in need of refurbishment. Furniture is old and worn out. Beds very uncomfortable. The 20 min walk to and from the Old Town doesn't feel very safe.

I did ask the staff if there was a bar or restaurant in the area and was told no, I then did not understand why the hotel closed there own bar/restaurant. Went for breakfast twice and still couldn't get seated so I gave breakfast a miss. Won't be going back.

Spacious room, good water pressure in the room, varied breakfast buffet. But i didn't sleep well, the mattress was so soft i needed to put a pillow underneath the small of my back for support. I was woken suddenly at 04:30 by extremely loud squeaky floorboards in the room above. I've never heard floorboards squeak so loud.

Very thin walls. Slept next to somebodies bathroom, literally getting woken up at midnight by someone next door using the bathroom. Apart from that you hear everyone in the corridor etc. Apart from that, it was a stress free stay

Perfect base for exploring Riga

A nice place to use as a base for exploring Riga. 12 minutes from the #22 bus stop (airport bus) and 10 minutes from the coach station if you fancy going further afield. Reception area was well presented with a warm welcome from the staff. Room was clean although could have done with a larger sized duvet.
Buffet breakfast is served 7-10 during the week (8-11 weekends) with plenty to eat although some pastries would have been a welcome addition.

Hanza is a great budget hotel near the central station in Riga. Rooms are clean and the staff and breakfast are fine. Only really two negative issues -

The wifi isn't very reliable and keeps dipping in and out making it awkward if your in town on business.

Also the television seemed to not be able to pick up channels correctly and was unwatchable.

Maybe they were having issues with the signal because of the bad weather?

The staff are friendly and courteous at all times. A really big shout out goes to the girl in the breakfast room. Really busy woman who goes above and beyond to make your visit to the restaurant a pleasur.

Good for solo-travellers

The staff was friendly and helpful.
I can recommend this hotel mainly to solo-travellers or young couples and people who have no important meeting next morning since the sound-isolation and comfort were not the things this hotel can provide you at their best.

Restaurant size is small but very cosy. They may considering fixing this little issue in the future.

In the room, fridge was very noisy together with the air ventilation at the bathroom. You basically can not hear anything else than the noise these 2 devices create :).

Also, we unfortunately had a very noisy next room who started to listen to music around 03.00 in the morning. Then someone smoked and fire alarm went on!
Since the wall has no sound-insulation, we were woken up by any conversation the next door room could have. You can clearly hear what other people talk about.

Otherwise, price, friendliness of staff and hotel condition were good. I can say that for family, this is not the best option, however all the rest of the people who do not mind a little noise, they can enjoy staying at this cosy and nice hotel.

great value stay

I got a very good price for my room with breakfast included so I have nothing to complain, really great value!
The location of the hotel was very good for me as it's not far from the central station where I arrived from the airport, it's also nearby the bus station which I was taking the next day to go to Tallinn, so location wise very good for me. It's also a short walk to the old town (10-15 minutes). Many shops around (near the train station), there is also a central market place just next to the bus station which I highly recommend as you can find many local products such as food, also some souvenirs and the prices are good.
The breakfast was good, with enough of food choice for me, especially for this price.
Also the hotel is in a quiet area, not directly by the busy streets etc. so not noisy.
There was a kettle in the room and even a fridge which is nice as well.

Hotel not too far from Riga Central market and a 15 minute walk from the centre of Riga. The service was friendly, the room spacious and warm and the breakfast was catered for. A charming hotel not too far from the centre with “Stalin’s gift” - the Academy of Sciences being a great focal point to naihati yourself to the hotel. Around the hotel is a lot of local history which you can book a free walking tour to view.

The staff is lovely and friendly. They had everything ready for us when we checked-in at midnight. Unfortunately the room itself was dirty. The floor hadn't been cleaned at all. However, we let front desk know the next morning and they had it handled. The beds were fine for two nights. We really enjoyed the breakfast and free water. That was a huge plus to our stay.

The best thing about this hotel is the price and location. For less than £50 a night but only just outside the centre it was perfect for us. Only a 5 mins walk to the central market too which allowed us to stock up on goodies everyday. The room itself was spacious but strangely there were no curtains and only wooden blinds which weren’t great at shutting out the sun. The breakfast had some ok options but it could’ve been more varied.

Room fair — but wouldn’t stay again

Surprised housekeeping did not change the towels — despite two visits and only appeared to empty the bin and replace coffee cups. Room was basic, to be expected for the price, but not replacing the towels was a bit odd! Location-wise the hotel is close to the main train station, but the surrounding streets are very depressing, not a nice area to have to walk through. The hotel also included breakfast, but don’t consider this a perk, it’s best avoiding this and eating in the city.

Good location, very inexpensive for the night

Location is within walking distance to train and bus stations. Bathroom was a little dirty and had a smell. There was a strong sewer smell in the hallway. The breakfast was good, especially the porridge. This isn’t a five star experience, but for the cost I guess I can’t really complain. For the money it definitely works. The staff was nice and I would stay here again. Don’t expect perfection and you’ll be pleased. I just wish things were a little cleaner. If you just need a place to stay overnight, this will do the job.

Good hotel. Very clean, decent size rooms. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was a little limited, especially for options for younger people but otherwise good. Good location, quiet and easy to get around.
