Staff was friendly and prepared a breakfast to go because I had to check-out before breakfast starts. Hotel is at a great location within the old town.
There are a few bars around the area and we can hear loud music and talking which made it hard to sleep.

We stayed with our 14 year old and 11 year old for one night (a Tuesday). Location right in old town was excellent, check in straight forward. Great value, we actually got two separate rooms connected with a single door so there was a shared toilet. Breakfast included which was a bonus for the price, basic selection but perfectly fine for what we needed. Oddly earplugs were provided in the rooms so we were wary of noise in the evening as my husband is an extremely light sleeper but it was really quiet! No safe or fridge in room but perfect for a short stop if you are travelling through the Baltic area, we only booked through Expedia that morning and it was exactly what we required and I would say exceeded our expectations given two separate rooms and location.

Good basic hotel in very good location.

A good basic hotel. The rooms were rather tired and plain, but clean, and my twin room was large. Very good location on edge of Riga Old Town, and for walking around all Riga. Good location for 22 bus to/from from the airport...the bus stop was close. Quite noisy as was near some popular bars, which is why I presume the hotel left ear plugs in the room. Breakfast was good. I would recommend this hotel as a good budget option.

Overall a good experience.

It was stuffy in the room, but the windows only opened a tiny bit. It helped a little, but the bar across the street was very noisy past 1 am, so it was hard to sleep. The rooms were very basic, but they met our needs and were appropriate for the price we paid. Breakfast wasn't fancy, but it too met our needs. Plus except for the noise, the location is excellent. The registration desk person who checked us in was great - really friendly. And we so appreciate that everyone spoke English! Thank you! We would stay there again, even with the noisy bar.

The name of the hotel displayed outside is 'Viesnica Domus Hotel' instead of 'Rija Domus Hotel' as advertised. The hotel is in the middle of all the top attractions of the city and, as such, all types of shops and restaurants can be found in its close vicinity. The room was clean and adequately furnished but the shower area in the en-suite bathroom is too small with slow water flow and the soap dispenser can be a hazard at the time of taking shower. The buffet breakfast was awesome with many unconventional options. The staffs at the reception were polite and helpful. Overall the hotel is one of the best options to stay in Riga for an easily affordable price.

The hotel is advertised as a three star hotel, but it should be 1.5 star. The only advantage is its proximity to Riga’s rail and bus stations and the historic neighborhood. The rooms are very basic, the plumbing is old and smelly, and the pillow and blankets had odor. On Friday night and the weekend there is loud music coming from the square nearby. It is a budget option but I wish I spent more money to get something more comfortable.

The location of this hotel is very central and the staff that I encountered were very friendly.

One thing just to note is that whilst the bed and room were fine to sleep in they did remind me of student halls/ dorm rooms, very basic looking so if aesthetic is something that you are looking for and you want a room that looks more luxurious - you wont find it here. That is not a negative and I would happily stay here again esp as the soundproofing from the street was very good.

The location is excellent, the staff are friendly and efficient. The room is noisley both from the nearby pub but also creaks and plumbing noise. The curtains dont block the light at all. There seemed to be some issues with the plumbing. The cold water wasnt flowing in the evening despite working fine earlier in the day. The next day brown water gushed from the tap before cleaner water flowing.

I had a great stay here with my daughter. We were given a room on the 6th floor (converted loft area) and we hardly heard anyone else the whole stay. The receptionist was very friendly at check in and check out. There was plenty of choice for breakfast too. Centrally located too. Will be back with the rest of our family.

We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.
Inga from reception, was particularly knowledgeable about her country and local area. She was an absolute 'God send' in helping us, when due to a member of our family's serious illness, we had to return hope prematurely and immediately.
The location of the hotel is excellent, and we fully intend to return within the next six months.

The hotel was central and perfectly located for walking to most of the tourist attractions.
The rooms were very basic, and it is the first time we were left ear plugs in the room (there are no carpets on any of the floors and the walls are wafer-thin so all conversations and walking about everywhere can be heard). Breakfast choice was good and better than expected with hot scrambled eggs, meatballs, croissants, toast, jam, cheese, tomatoes, cucumber etc.
Room for luggage to be stored before check-in was useful.
Plenty of gastropubs and restaurants nearby. Worth getting on double dekker to get your bearings and see the whole of Riga which is very beautiful.

Great location but to many problems. The staff were very helpful and professional. The hotel is located next to many clubs and noise from the drinks continued until about 4:00am. There is no fan or air conditioning in the room sonit was necessary to keep the window open at night to get some air so the noise level made it difficult to sleep.

There were somebody in our room

We had late arrival after a long flight at 3 am.
We got a key from superior double room, but when we opened the door we found out, that there is some one in the room. there were somebody's sneakers on the floor. We closed the door and went down to the reception. The stuff said it couldn't happen that there is somebody in the room, but he can't go there and check it.
We asked for another room. But when we got a key and went up to it we found out, that the wc and bathroom are in a separate room and it was closed.
We went down again to the reception, She was confused, tried to find another room, but it took 30 minutes.
NO \"Sorry\" during all this time. Terrible service. Only \" i don't know how could it happen\"
That it founds out, they don't have any double rooms, which are clean. So she shows me the single with bigger than single bed. We slept there, but these room was in ban condition too.
The toilet worked very slow.
The walls were so thin, that we heard every voice.
In the morning nobody came to us and said sorry.
Breakfast was till 11. We came at 10.30. There were almost nothing on the plates. The porrige was cold.
We lmade a check-out and nobody said any word to us.
The worst experince i had in Riga and in the whole Europe with 4-5 star hotel.

Not like 'Kolonna' used to be

We had quite a good stay for over a week, though we thought that the high standards of the previous owner(s) when the hotel was called 'Kolonna' had slipped. One day when we returned at about 3 pm from sight-seeing, we found that our room had not been cleaned. When we asked why the room had not been done, the lady at reception told us that the rooms of staying guests are done between 3 and 5 pm; precedence is given to the rooms of incoming guests. In all our years of travelling all over the world, this explanation was a first!!!!

Hate people who complain expecting all Hotels to be 5*. Hotel is as advertised. A pleasant three stay hotel with no frills or thrills. Great central location. No reason to be put off this hotel, staff are lovely and helpful and everything was comfortable if basic.

The breakfast however is not recommended. We went down at 10:30 and there was nothing left, not even clean glasses to have any of the juice. Nearly all food was gone and what was left did not look too appetizing.

The hotel is located in the centre of Riga and consequently it is very noisy at night. The hotel supplied ear-plugs and the worst of the noise (live music outside) stopped at around midnight. The room (a superior double) was spacious, but despite requesting a double bed, we had two single beds pushed together. The room appeared slightly shabby although everything worked. There was no mini-bar/fridge or tea-making facilities which I understand are available in other Rixwell hotels in Riga.

Friendly staff, great location

The hotel is smack in the middle of the old town within easy walk to the main sights.

The receptionist was extremely friendly and gave us very useful tips for exploring Riga in two days.

The building looks old but it is all about the façade. The rest of the building is totally redone which is a bit disappointing if you expected old world charm. Rooms are large and adequate for a weekend stay. The American style modular bathrooms have shower heads that are bolted on the wall (yikes), but at least the hotel provides shower caps. The windows are of solid German quality and blocked the drunken singing down the street. On Friday and Saturday there was a band nearby but they stopped by 11 pm. All in all, the room (5th floor) was reasonably quiet considering the location.

Breakfast was a bit limited. Some of the items were already out by 9 am.

Bait and switch

This hotel has at least two sister properties in Riga. We were booked to this hotel, fully prepaid. Upon checking in, we were told that the property is over-booked and we will be moved to one of the sister properties. The thing is - those other hotels are not in the center of the Old Town. The other hotel that we were told to move to is on a very busy street (trolleys, 6 lanes of traffic, train and buses next door), next to two hostels with parties going late into the night. The hotel staff for the other hotel knows that it is too loud, because their amenity kit includes ear plugs!

Anyway, I was not happy with being moved to a sub-optimal location. Out of curiosity, I checked the Rixwell Domus availability on Expedia for the nights that we were told that they are \"over-booked\", and Expedia still showed rooms available at Rixwell. Therefore, my opinion is that this hotel is using \"bait and switch\" practices: they lure customers with their historic location and then move people to random other hotels that they own.

It was not a good experience for our family.

Great hotel in the heart of the old town

We were a little bit early for check in but needed to be somewhere in a hurry. Receptionist (Inga) couldn't have been more helpful and found us an available room. The room was small but more than adequate - exceeded expectations for the cost of the stay. Read previous comments about lack of pillows before our stay but we requested more and got them that same day. My only criticism... Being English I like a cup of tea :-) but there were no tea making facilities in the room ( I'd just take my own next time). Hotel excellently situated in the heart of the old town. There was a lot of noise from the club/pub on the Saturday night but earplugs were provided and it didn't affect our enjoyment of the stay. Breakfasts were basic but again for the price we can't complain (and tea provided!). Would definitely book again without hesitation - thank you.

Nice hotel in the middle of Old Town

We had a most pleasant stay, our room was modern and well furnished, only the TV could do with being upgraded, with a good buffet breakfast offering varied choices of food.
The hotel is well situated with easy access to tram and bus to and from airport, walking distance to train and coach stations too.
It is in a bustling area surrounded by lots of restaurants and bars, the one drawback is the loud music coming from restaurants open terraces in the adjacent square until late at night.
The staff was extremely helpful.

Hotel is in city centre so locations is great.
Everything is close, by walking distance, all seightseeings are near.
The staff in hotel very pleasant and helpful. Wide selection of breakfasts, pastries, juices, coffee, hot food, fruits,veg ect. We really enjoyed the breakfast.
Basically we just needed the place to sleep..For this price is excellent. If you are not posh and have limited budget it is great place to stay. U have everything what u need, Spacious and cosy room, tv,hot shower, and wide selection of breakfast.

Basic with a central location

Basic hotel. I was given a very basic room with a washroom that was accessible via the hallway using a key. Once I complained via Expedia I was upgraded on my last night to a half decent room that had a nice view of the street with an ensuite washroom.

We had to upgrade our room as the one we booked turned out to have a shared bathroom. Our new room was nice and big. The bed was comfortable. We had plenty of hot water. The staff was wonderful and would go the extra mile to be helpful. The location is extremely good.

Good Hotel in the heart of Old Town, Riga

Hotel is located in in Old Town. There is a pub and bakery right across the street and at least three coffee shops within a stone's throw. The staff are exceptionally friendly and courteous. The complimentary breakfast is sufficient although provides little variety from day to day. The dining room is in the lower level. It is clean but there are noticeable cob webs in some of the corners. The rooms are fine. Nothing fancy. They were plenty warm even when it was -5 degrees outside. The furnishings are simple. The bathrooms have no bathtub. The shower is one corner of the bathroom and the shower water simply goes to a drain in the middle of the floor....OUTSIDE the shower area. I don't get it. By the time we finished a shower, the whole bathroom floor is wet. We managed to reduce the water migration by the way we positioned the shower nozzle but it only had a minimal effect.
WiFi was spotty at best! It was very frustrating. We were on the floor above the lobby and couldn't keep a connection for more than a few minutes at a time. The staff were aware but were limited in what they could actually do to solve the problem
Finally, the noise. Every night around 1:30 to 2 am, the pub would close down and all its patrons would move into the street in front of the hotel and of course did what drunk people do... were very loud.
If you are looking for a place to lay your head, for a couple of nights, this will suit your needs but look for extravagance here.

Brilliant hotel in a fabulous place!

My husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel right in the old town of Riga. The staff on reception were really kind and helpful,the room was basic but clean and warm. Breakfast was continental and perfectly fine!
Riga is beautiful and the Christmas markets are on until mid January and well worth visiting!
We would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back!

Not a 3 star hotel but good location

Hotel of lower standard than expected. Decor is plain and unwelcoming. The \"superior\" room had a sofa but was otherwise pretty basic - a very old fashioned tv with extremely limited channels and a remote which needed a degree to know how to operate, no facilities to make hot drinks (which could be requested from reception but at a charge), no mini bar (just bottled water which was charged for as an extra) and no complimentary shampoos/shower gel etc other than the wall dispensers containing what was presumably soap in lurid colours. Curtains were coming off the rails and we took it upon ourselves to fix those. Unpleasant sewer smell in the corridors on some evenings.

Other than the breakfast room which was in the cellar there are no communal facilities such as a bar or guest lounge so on retreating indoors from the cold for a while the bedroom was the only place to go to relax.

The only member of staff who seemed remotely interested in us as guests was Laura who did her best to make us feel welcome. Other staff were disinterested at best. There seemed to be no obvious manager to ensure things were running smoothly.

Breakfast was poor and badly organised. If you arrived late there was nothing left and if you arrived early they had not restocked from the previous day. How a hotel can run out of bread for toast half way through breakfast is beyond me! Tables not cleared promptly.

Riga and hotel location great but hotel needs to pull its socks up.

Very mixed feelings

Breakfast was almost non existent and the breakfast staff were rude and non responsive to requests. Had the receptionist not tried to fix the problem, I would have rated even lower. Make sure to bring your own shampoo and toiletries.

Great hotel in the beautiful old town of Riga.

This is my second time staying at the Kolonna hotel. Once again, friendly staff, they couldn't be more helpful and it's right in the centre of the old town. Hopefully we will be back again one day.

Great location in the centre of the Old Town

The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are pretty basic but clean. The only thing that was annoying was that our bathroom was separate. Other than that I would recommend it for an affordable trip to Riga:)
