The interior is the work of French and Italian designers, and the name, which literary means “Knight's Inn”, brings us back to the mysterious medieval France. Our hotel is located in one of the most famous buildings of Old Riga at 20 Kalku Street.

Here in the middle of the 17th century a German physician and biologist Benjamin Fischer founded a pharmacy, which, thanks to the patronage of Fischer's older brother, who held a high position at court, attained a Royal status. The image of a lion on the facade relief of the building is a symbol of special support from King Charles XI.

They dobbelt booked our room so we got waken up in the middle of the night by strangers. The room had been used we noticed that but thought okay never mind as we thought okay they forgot to empty the trash can and some water and glad. Not be using them again

Relais Le Chevalier made our stay truly memorable. Transportation arrangements at arrival and check-out were handled promptly and efficiently, and the driver was very kind and pleasant, which made the transfers even more comfortable. The reception staff, especially Valerie and Camilla, who were exceptional: warm, respectful, attentive, and a pleasure to deal with. Their thoughtful surprise of a bottle of prosecco on my birthday was an over-the-top gesture that we truly appreciated.
Housekeeping was impeccable, and the room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and elegantly designed. Breakfast was excellent, with a great selection and super friendly, kind staff who made mornings a pleasure. The hotel’s location is ideal, right in the heart of the Old Town, close to the Christmas market, restaurants, and shops.
Just a small note for guests: due to the central Old Town location, taxis stop nearby rather than directly at the hotel. Overall, the staff, service, ambiance, and our entire experience at Relais Le Chevalier were outstanding, and we would gladly return.

The room felt like it was from another, fancier era. The beds were plush and comfortable. I enjoyed little details, like having both a teakettle and a Nescafe coffeemachine. My favorite part was your 6th floor breakfast, with both a buffet of meats, cheeses, and pastries, and a la carte-created menus. I enjoyed the omelet and sausage as well as the potato pancakes. Everyone from your staff was attentive, kind, and helpful.

Ideally situated just a short walk from the airport bus stop (Grēcinieku iela) past the House of the Blackheads and within sight of the Freedom Monument. Outside is a large square with plenty of restaurants though they did seem to have similar menus and charge similar prices. Everything went quiet at 11:00pm.
Receptionists were helpful and spoke very good English. The room was renovated fairly recently and overlooked the square. It was very comfortable and clean. The only reservation was that the large screen TV only had about 4 channels actually tuned in but I hadn't gone to watch TV and the wi-fi was good enough to catch up on my tablet anyway.
The buffet breakfast wasn't the most lavish I've seen but in common with many hotels they were trying to push you towards a plated meal from the à la carte menu to cut down on food waste.
I would have no hesitation to stay here again.

A wonderful location for exploring the old city. The bedrooms are beautifully designed and very clean. The hotel interior design has had a quirky refit which works well. Sadly next door is a bar with pounding music continuing until 06.00. Ear plugs are available and recommended. The staff were terrific and a good breakfast is provided. All most hospitable and helpful. We shall go again.

Whilst the property was clean and centrally located there were two issues I had with it which resulted in me docking a star.

The first was the fact that the rooms have no windows facing outside, but instead a window facing into the inner section of the hotel. I knew this before arriving so this wasn't the issue. The problem this created was the lights are always on inside and the curtain over the internal \"window\" wasn't a black-out curtain, so when trying to sleep there was quite a lot of light coming into the room even with the curtain drawn.

The second issue was the aircon. They provide extensive instructions next to the wall unit on how to change the temperature however it never seemed to \"stick\". Speaking to reception it turns out the temperature is controlled centrally for the whole building. When I was there when it was quite hot (and I prefer a cooler room to sleep) this meant it was always quite warm in the room.

Both these issues combined meant I didn't sleep particularly well. I'm aware that having the room dark and cool is a personal preference which is why I only knocked off 1 star but if you're the same as me, then be aware of this.

The hotel is absolutely lovely, very clean, great breakfast and a fantastic view of Līvu Square however if you are looking for a good sleep this is unfortunately not the best place to choose. The live singer in the restaurant opposite goes on until midnight but the karaoke bar next door but one goes on until 4am. Such a shame as otherwise the location is perfect.

The hotel is beautiful and the bed and room were very nice. The location is right in the middle of a very busy square so there’s lots to see and do. Not that it’s the hotel’s fault, but the restaurant right in front of them plays incredibly loud music until close to 11 pm so if you need to get to sleep early it’s difficult. They offered to arrange my airport transfer for 35 euros but I found you can order a Grab easily for 13 euros.

Pretty sure that next time we’ll choose the same hotel again.


Sound insulation was good enough so music and peoples noise from the street didn’t bother us at all.


Just minor minuses in our room, other aircon unit didn’t work, but room cooled just fine with one. Shower door’s lower seal was gone and water from door leaked to bathroom floor and finaly to room door

Be aware breakfast is on the floor above so you can sometimes hear that from the room but it didn't really trouble us. I would be happy to stay here again without question.

Absolutely fabulous hotel! Fantastic location, right in the centre of things - about a hundred yards from the Freedom Monument and within easy walking distance of all the central attractions. We received a very warm welcome from hotel staff and were allocated a beautifully decorated room. Plenty of space and facilities in the room and bathroom - very comfortable bed too. The breakfast room was bright and airy, with a nice buffet selection and a choice of cooked breakfasts from the menu - the staff were very friendly and efficient and spoke good English. The hotel is situated on a very lively square with bars and live music but once in our room, we couldn't hear a thing from outside. We will happily return to this gem of a hotel on our next visit to Riga!

A very good centrally located hotel

The location was excellent right on the square. The hotel and room were tastefully decorated, staff was good, plenty of sockets in room, with a superb breakfast, with a good choice of healthy food and a few sweet treats.
The little croissants and conserves were wonderful!
The water in the morning was not hot at all which I reported, the tap flow was a little slow, and the curtains did not stop morning light well,
nothing major. Otherwise it was a very good 5 night stay.

We enjoyed our stay very nice location. Hotel is well maintained very French. We asked for a wake up call for 6am on day of departure but never got one. No window. The toilet in our bathroom was about 8 inches from the wall very poor design. We had to sit sideways as thee was no room for legs. Think they should have a work with theur plumber. The worst we have encountered not amused!!

Of course, it's a very nice hotel. But, two gripes - one, the curtains give way too much light from the inner courtyard. And, two, our package included free drink. We (my husband and I) were told we could choose from a glass of beer, a glass of prosecco, or coffee. We went for prosecco. We were offered ONE glass - to share between us, I was told. Nope, we could not have a glass each. I guess it would have been one cup of coffee, too...

Annoying Sunday morning vacuum cleaning

Nice hotel. The pillows however were a bit un confortable and it was difficult to give them a good shape. Extra pillows would also be preferred if they were available.
The Sunday morning 8am vacuum cleaning of the atrium floors were not the brightest idea, specially since it's rather echoing in the atrium and the hard floors added to the annoying noise from the cleaning. 8am on a Sunday morning is pretty normal to still be asleep, specially if you're on vacation. When I mentioned this at the check out I wasn't given an excuse. Instead they said that they vacuum cleaned the floors because no one had checked out yet. It might be because people still were asleep, or at least had plans to still be asleep. But how would I know?
This aside, it was a nice hotel with a perfect location, above average brekkie and good value for money.

The parking fee was a complete scam. They charged 35 euros while the garage charges 24 euros. When asked about the difference, the staff simply stated we need to make money too although the garage is public and far from the property.

Also the location while central and easy access is very noisy and the music didn't stop till 6 am only to be resumed by a jackhammer.

Lastly the size of the room is much smaller than stated and the towels were in very bad shape.

Overall, far from being a 4 star property, this is 3 star at best and the staff make it a 1 star.

We needed parking and they arranged the booking in one of the underground public garages very close to the hotel. Hotel is beautiful and quiet. We stayed just one night and ordered breakfast, which is served on 6th floor on the roof terasse - one of the windows has view to the old town!

Beautiful hotel, good service

It is in a fantastic location - right in the old town and the hotel is beautiful, one downside is that you will have to pay for parking which can be quite expensive if you want to get the nearest parking lot. We used the one that was 30€ / day. The breakfast was nice, but it is quite basic. The hotel doesn't have a dental kit (toothbrush + toothpaste) so make sure to bring your own. In terms of the view from inside, the lobby is very elegant, but the room itself can be a little bit dark due to the only light being from the ceiling, it is only natural due to the location though.

A wonderful stay

Clean, convenient and comfortable. The Relais Le Chevalier is a great place to stay. Right on a lovely and popular square don’t worry about noise. The staff was welcoming and always available. The room was spacious and elegant but with all the modern conveniences. The bathroom was big and very practical.

Hotel was really nice. Was disappointed at the customer service as they double booked me and wanted me to stay in a single room occupancy room even though there was two adults staying. Thankfully they had a cancellation the night before my stay so I got the double room I paid for. However I was disappointed that they kept refusing a refund when they couldn't accommodate me in the double room. But thankfully it was fixed but only by luck. Hotel itself is really nice

Didn’t sleep the entire stay.

Room was like a sauna. The air con didn’t work, hotel called an engineer to fix it whose solution was to situate the air con unit in the middle of our room which didn’t fix the problem and left us living in a building site for the weekend. Such a shame, the building and room could have been beautiful but were spoilt by the temperature and lack of simple amenities like coffee, shower gel.

Spacious and clean. Great location in old town, right by the freedom statue. Many good restaurant options around the corner, easy access to buses and taxis. The tv didn't work (the staff on duty couldn't fix it and didn't seem to hand it over to someone who could). And unfortunately there were loud street musicians outside at night – the hotel has done all it can with good windows and thick curtains, but if you're sensitive to loud music it's don't pick a room facing the square. I would have expected that in the summertime given the location, but why would street musicians with loud speakers be out all on their own on a rainy night in late October?

It is a lovely hotel in the old town. Perfect location. I have really good hearing and I am very sensitive to noise. I thought I could hear the faint sound of music from a bar...sure enough, there is a bar next door. This wouldn't stop me from staying there but I did hear it, one morning to 5 a.m.

Well positioned but not very confortable

The location is good, but the room was claustrophobic, with no windows. The mattress was confortable but the bat was bad: unconfortable, shower and tab with little pressure. I was unlucky, got late to the hotel, and due to an issue with the reservation, I left with no possibility to have dinner anywhere but McDonalds. Be aware that taxis can not get tobthe hitel and you have to do a couple of hundred yards pushing your carry ons.
