I have been staying at this hotel for every time I visited Riga.
Most helpful, friendly staff and very clean rooms. Location is within short walk from most of the central areas.
Very affordable, as well.

No elevator in 4 floor hotel

During booking process there was no clear sign of no elevator in hotel. \"Luckily\" we got room on 2nd floor. Could imagine how it was for guests on 4th floor. The overal condition of hotel is poor. Small dubble room, with some smell from bathroom. Somehow air-conditioner was always on at 7.12, so we had unique wake up call :( Breakfast could be more tasty and with more choices. Location of hotel is good with lot of public transport connections.

Good location, only 15 minutes walk from the centre. Great breakfast for a budget hotel. The only downsides were thin walls (and some visitors like to have their TV on at 100am), no storage space in the room apart from 4 hangers, and no elevator, even though on 4 floors.

Very basic hotel, no lift , starirs to reception,

The location was good,but room was on the small side just about to get arround the bed and furniture(drawers were falling apart, the lampshade has had missing some decor.elements. Very basic , I have booked a double room just fot myself, but used two pillows and two duvets- it was then just right. Bed haven't been made on two occasions out of three. Cheap stay.
Breakfast was very basic too.

Hotels.com did not disclose no elevator in hotel

At no point there was a disclosure that this hotel does not have an elevator, meaning this hotel is not equipped to host people with disabilities or just the ones who don't want to break their backs carrying their suitcase to the 4th floor. This is what I got with this non-refundable booking for 6 nights. I am not sure if this more of a fault of Hotels.com or A1 hotel itself, but the bottom line is that they should be very clear that this hotel is not for people with disabilities or otherwise unable to carry their luggage up the stairs breaking their backs. When I called Hotels.com I was told that that they cannot do anything at this point and that I should call them tomorrow. Than means that I cannot even make a reservation for a hotel with an elevator until I wait till Hotels.com resolves this matter with hotel management. What if not dear Hotels.com? Do you want to be liable for my back treatment fees?

The shower head was not working it leaked badly from the hose, and the water was not draining properly it leaked out of the actual shower onto the bathroom floor,I had to open the window because the a/c didn’t work ,other than that the breakfast was good

I didnt have a problem with noise (I was on the top floor - maybe fewer people up there?).
There werent any omelets at breakfast - not sure what the other reviews were talking about. Just watery scrambled eggs and some cereal.
I would stay there again - it's really good value for money and there was nothing that put me off. It's an older hotel but it was clean.

Not bad location but terrible hotel

I booked this hotel knowing that it was a cheap price and a fair location, if a bit far as the other reviews say. I don't mind walking and the location was easily the best part of the hotel.

If you value sleep or even somewhat quiet rooms, don't stay here. The walls are basically paper thin and you could easily have a conversation with your neighbors. That and the fact that the doors and bathroom doors do not close without slamming meant no sleep 2 of the 3 nights.

The rooms were fairly clean and the beds surprisingly comfortable, although the sheets do not fit and if you roll over will come off the bed completely. The bathroom and shower were not great, but good shower pressure. All in all it was really not a comfortable place to stay.

The reception staff were quite nice but we really did not have much interaction with them besides for asking to move rooms (we were told the loud guests were checking out and it would be better - it only was marginally, the walls are so thin) and asking how to turn off the incredibly annoying blinking blue light on the air conditioner (they said nothing we could do so we had to take the card out of the reader at night to turn off all electricity).

I would definitely spend a little extra for a better hotel where I could actually rest or sleep or not be concerned about where I was stepping. Good price for a hotel but awful experience.

The hotel was in a decent part of Riga, 15 minutes by foot to old town. The hotel had a very good breakfast every morning with a nice selection of items. The room was on the top floor with no elevator, so walking up the stairs was necessary. (Not a big deal for me). The hotel seemed safe and I didn't have any issues during my stay. The room was high enough so that street noise was not an issue. The room was clean when I arrived and was cleaned every morning.

Single, female experienced traveller. Found area fine and safe, though some might prefer luxury and the best areas. Wish I had booked a third night at the price as I wanted to do more in Riga.

Hotel has no lift, but I managed to carry two bags up and down. I thought it had some local character, rather than a chain hotel, with a small pool hall and bar, good coffee. I left bags there most of a day in secure locked room and went back to add things twice, no trouble.

Local area mostly independent shops and residential. As I said, very good value and room fittings surprisingly good for the cost. Would definitely use again.

You get what you pay for.

For the money, it's hard to find a better deal. The room itself was fine, though a bit dated with paper thin walls. A nice breakfast is included, but on a couple of mornings there was a lack of food, dishes, cups and utensils. I ended up using a bowl instead of a plate, and drinking coffee from a glass since there was no clean cups left. The receptionist seemed disinterested in helping the overloaded kitchen staff with cleaning the tables or getting clean dishes for waiting customers. For whatever reason, the staff certainly doesn't seem motivated to provide good customer service. Having said that, it's probably still the cheapest and best deal for a private hotel room close to the city center.

Good location hotel with very thin walls

Hotel was a bit old looking, bathroom was smelly, room was clean otherwise, good location, good warm breakfast. But - hotel walls are so thin that you could even hear normal volume talking from the next room. Every time someone was walking, flushing, closing the door, you could hear it. Couldn't sleep at all. Otherwise I would recommend it but if you value quiet sleep, this is not for you.

Hotel staff is very rude and wan\"t even call to schedule a taxi to the airport ahead of time. There is no elevator in hotel and you will not get any room lower than 4th floor. I could hear snoring from other rooms...

Good hotel for the price

This is a very good hotel for the price. The main areas are slightly shabby- a new carpet wouldn't go amiss- but our room was lovely, with good quality bed linen and towels. The staff were pleasant and reasonably helpful but make sure you get a detailed street map from elsewhere as they don't seem to have them. Breakfast was plentiful with some strange offerings (coleslaw anyone?) but lots of fruit and delicious jams.
The area is okay, not too far from the central station but, apart from a few restaurants and clothes shops, there's very little in the area. The free Wi-Fi was good and reasonably reliable.

A1 Hotel Riga.

The A1 is 2nd / 3rd floor hotel over a billiard parlor and bar. The entrance is actually around the corner in Gertrudes Iela and my taxi driver had problems finding it initially.
I had some minor problems with breakfasts (due to lactose intolerance) and the fact that yogurt was either not available or had 'run out' for the day.
Staff were very friendly.

Got at the hotel extremely early and everyone tried to mitigate the problems associated with that as much as possible.

Room was clean, decently spacious and well insulated.

Shower was OK but the amenities somewhat lacking.
Good WiFi in the room.

Common areas are a bit rundown. The stairs look very old and there is no elevator so take this into consideration.

Breakfast was a very good surprise. Plenty of variety and quantity. Excellent given the price.

Location is close to the KGB building and some 20 minutes on foot to the old town, bus and rail station.

Would do again for the same rate.

If You got a deal...

I got there because of a special deal and I have to say if I'd have a chance to choose once again, I would go...but only if my other choices are fully booked either are unusually expensive or You got a great deal on this one!
Room was big. 2 windows, small one had no curtains, other one was only half covered and there was no chance to shut it properly. There was sofa chair to close view through small window though. No sockets near bed. No tea/coffee maker. Low quality (clean though) bed linens.
Shower just wasn't my cup of tea hence I'd rate it as 2/5, but because of a great deal I decide to rate it as 3/5.
And more than that...got problems with my access card, I couldn't get in and it couldn't be solved until the morning.
Good breakfast and friendly staff saved the day!

We booked 1 night at the hotel and found it to be very good. It was clean, comfortable and provided us with an excellent free breakfast buffet.
We returned a few days later for a further night and then again a few days later for 3 more nights.
There was a lot of traffic noise when we were in a room overlooking the road but it wasn't too bad with the window closed. There was air conditioning which helped keep the room cool. The hotel lobby and stairs looked a bit dated but when we left for the final time workmen were replacing the carpet with laminate flooring so it should bring it more up to date. The staff were excellent - very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located about 20 minutes walk from Old Town and 15/20 minutes from the train/bus station and 30 minutes from the airport by bus. It's close to most of the attractions and buses, trams and trolley buses are just a couple of minutes walk away. If you want home-made gluten-free bread and cakes etc try Tira Maize just a few yards away on Gertrudes Iela.

Great hotel although a little smelly

Nice hotel: only 10min walk from town, clean and well priced. There are shops nearby, a fast food place at the entrance and the hotel bar has many snooker tables and friendly staff. As other reviews have mentioned it does smell a bit funny, I think this is due to a cleaning product used as it was the same musty smell in some of the museums we visited. Nevertheless it was clean and I would return at the price we paid.

This hotel is OK for this price (€30-40). The room was clean and comfortable albeit the hall and stairway look a but worn out already. There are many options for local transportation nearby, so location is not a problem. I was on top floor, and the view was still a brick wall from a neighboring building. All in all, an OK stay. With regard to the price, an excellent stay!

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the price. Main negative points were the smell from the bathroom and the poor condition of the stairway area (it desperately needed new carpet). Minor issue with bedding not fitting bed very well and only had one pillow each. However, the bed was comfortable and it didn't seem to be too noisy when we stayed.

Room was spacious and clean with large Samsung TV. One lamp didn't work, even after swapping the bulb with another, and my suitcase got quite dusty after putting it under a bed at one point. Would have really appreciated tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but guess they want to maximise the bar revenue. Not a issue for us, but there didn't seem to be any elevator. Breakfast was very acceptable - not spectacular, but a good enough range.

Location is good - outside old town area, although walkable. A nearby bus stop on Aleksandra Caka iela will get you to the central station. There is Lido restaurant 100m from the hotel, or going in the other direction along Gertrudes iela, there is a Rimi supermarket in the Barona Centrs.

Good value hotel. 10 minutes walk from the centre

Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2015. Hotel approximately 2 miles from the centre of town (Central Railway Station). Very easy to find as straight down a main road from the station.
Hotel is just off the main road (Caka St) up a couple of flights of stairs. Reception area has snooker hall off, bar area and also area for breakfasts.
Room was small but comfy - double bed, tv (with BBC Entertainment channel in english), desk area, chairs and a window that opens. En suite had a roomy shower cubicle and hairdryer. Room was cleaned daily with fresh towels supplied.
Breakfasts served 7:00am to 10:00am - basic buffet but adequate (break for toasts, cheeses and ham, cereal, tea and coffee etc).
Overall the hotel was good for a short break in Riga. I would recommend.

Enjoyed my stay, 24 hour reception, staff were always helpful. Breakfast was standard and the short walk to riga old town was straight forward. Would happily stay again at €15 a night double for single occupancy. Hotel might be a bit tired in places but for a weekend away where you want a shower and a quite place to sleep this was ideal.

My mistake was booking a room that faces the street. Light from the street made it a little difficult to sleep. Perhaps the hotel should put darker curtains in the rooms. I was very impressed with how clean the room was. Breakfast was good too, I will definitely stay at this hotel again. For the price, it is good. The walls could use some sound-proofing though as I could hear every word from the room next to mine.

Well I never give anything a 5 rating as then it would mean it is flawless. But this hotel is a real good stay for the price in Riga. It is about 15 mins walk to city centre, but the walk is not a boring walk. Lots of shops and cafes to walk into on your way to centre. Nice clean rooms and good staff. I took the room facing the road and it does get some traffic noise but i guess you can opt for other rooms. I am not entirely sure about sound proffing in the rooms, all 3 nights were quiet, but last day before check out i could hear some russians from next door talking loudly. Either they had kept the door open or just checked in and exited ;-)

Hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from Old Riga. It's a nice stay for reasonable price. Room is comfortable and clean, breakfasts are good. Hotel is little loud though (especially by night, had to close the window to have some sleep. Even after closing window, sounds from the street were audible). There are also some problems with wifi. There were times when no commection was possible.

The hotel has no façade. One has to walk through a long alleyway to reach the reception on the 2nd floor. This said, the room is furnished to very high standard. TV, WiFi all worked well. Towels are changed everyday. Breakfast is good. My only qualm is: my room faces Gertrude street, traffic is heavy and my room is noisy till midnight even when window is shut. Also, there is no safe deposit box. Instead one deposits one's belongings in a self adhesive plastic bag at the reception.

Looks dodgy from the outside, but great inside!

This hotel looks run down and dodgy from the entrance way, all the way up the stairs to the rooms (lots of stairs, be warned). But the rooms are really nice - very clean, spacious and well equipped. The area is quiet and feels safe, and it's close to all the touristy sites. I've already booked my next stay here!

We didn't do our homework really well as when we arrived we had to walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor with our suitcases to reception and then after receiving our key we had to walk up the stairs together with suitcases to the 5th floor where our room was situated. We are in our 60's and it was a real effort. It was also a 30minute walk to old town.

Great value, great location, great staff!

I am completely satisfied with my stay at this inexpensive and perfectly located hotel. This hotel is literally two blocks from the historical town center, and was a great value. The staff was kind and attentive, answering all of my questions, as well as arranging for airport rides (to and from), wake-up calls (knocks, actually!) and overall made me feel at home. They have two computers in the lobby that are free to use. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again!

Hotellet var ok. Många trappor att gå om man bodde våning 3 eller 4. Ingen hiss. Inget för dom som har svårt att gå. Frukosten ok men ingen variation. Samma varje morgon men man fick frukost i a f. Chefen var mycket trevlig o hjälpsam. Rummen bra o frächa badrum. Läget bra. Ca 1 km till Centralstation. Bra bussförbindelser utanför hotellet.

The showerhead was moldy. The shower floor had tiles missing. The sound proofing was non existent, everything could be heard through the walls.

Hissittömyys iso miinus, olimme 4 kerroksessa.
Lähtöpäivää edeltävänä iltana kysyimme myöhäistä lähtöä, sopii, kun maksamme 10€
Meille se sopi, mutta maksakaa vasta aamulla.
Aamulla, kun menimme maksamaan sanottiin, että ei käy ja lähdettävä klo 12
Lentomme lähti vasta 23:30

Simples e bom

O hotel simples, porém bom. As recepcionistas foram sempre solicitas, o hotel é limpo e o café da manhã é ótimo. A localização também é muito boa. Alguns pontos: o hotel não tem elevador e nem funcionários para ajudar a subir com as malas. O banheiro não tinha prateleiras para shampoo e o chuveiro não fixava no lugar (precisei ficar segurando durante o banho).

Schön gelegen, nahe der Innenstadt. Gute Anbindung an den ÖPNV. Sehr ordentliches Hotel mit gutem Frühstück. Leider kein Aufzug, den wir aber auch nicht benutzt hätten.

Tienen buena actitud. Está limpia la propiedad, hay personal del hotel las 24 horas en recepción. Lo único malo es que está en segundo piso y no hay elevador; con maletas grandes y pesadas es muy difícil.

Perus hotelli, edullinen ja jos ei kaipaa luksusta niin ok. Me kävimme hotellissa nukkumassa ja aamupalalla joten ei kaivattu muuta. Perus siisti, kävelymatkan päässä vanhasta kaupungista.

Hinta laatusuhde paikallaan. Vastaanoton henkilö oli tosi auttavainen. Saimme huoneen 2 kerroksesta koska vaimollani on nivelrikko ja opastuksen paikoitusalueelle. En tarkistanut onko hissiä. Aamupalalta jäin kaipaamaan lihapullia muuten riittoisa. Huone oli siisti ja sänky tosi mukava vain jääkaapin puuttui. Hotellin sijainti on hyvä ja aivan lähellä oli monta ruokailupaikka. Ilmastointi toimi hyvin kun sitä oppi käyttämään.

Bra service.

Bokat rum för 2 vuxna och 2 barn. Skulle då enligt information vid incheckning få rum med 3 enkelsängar.?

Men det ordnades till utmärkt så vi kunde få ett rum med 4 sängplatser! Det var bra service!

Frukostutbudet var litet, trångt och passade inte vårt sällskap. Vattenmelonen var dock toppen!

Läget strax utanför city-center var bra med bussar och spårvagn i närheten.

The hotel 🏨 was ok 👍. Tv channels didn't work properly. The room heat was central heating & no way to turn down the heat! It was extremely hot 🔥. The AC was making noises 😒 even when off!! The breakfast & staff was good 👍. Close to city center.

Typowy hotel, aby zatrzymać sie w trakcie drogi. Koszt parkingu powinien byc podany od razu, bo jest obowiązkowy. Informacja o samodzielnym parkowaniu jest myląca, bo sugeruje, że parking jest bezpłatny.
