Staff, service and food were excellent. Exactly when you'd come to expect from a Holiday Inn. Sadly however the room looked tired and in need of some much needed TLC with a distinct lack of beside plugs and although the room was at far end of the building and away from general foot traffic it was right above the air handling units and plant so was noisey at night.
The pool and locker rooms werent much better. The locker room was dirty (however, it was late in the day) and there was a nasty smell and the pool generally needed a refresh.
All in all.though if you just need a base for a few days close to the motorway and Meadowhall with good food then this is worth a look.

Nice clean spacious room plenty of tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits to have even dressing gowns if you forget yours we all slept amazing only down side was it was really cold in the night we turned heating up but it was still chilly so would advise to ask for extra blanket or take youre own.

I was very disappointed with the stay. The room was badly in need of decorating, cleaning and repairing. The window was wide open when I arrived; maybe to ‘air’ and disguise the musty smell? The ancient and dirty looking air con unit provided a source of heat but there was a constant draught from the windows. When I contacted Reception, they came to check that the ‘heater’ was working but didn’t show any concern about the wind which was blowing through the windows which would not close properly. They brought me a small fan heater and I was told it was the only one left!! It was useless as it was incredibly noisy and just stirred up the dust in the room. The hotel is extremely overpriced for the standard of the rooms.
The only positive I took from the Holiday Inn, was the friendliness of the reception staff. I would not return to the hotel and would definitely not recommend it.

The room was very clean, fresh and tidy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not have breakfast. Air conditioning worked wells, turned it up high because it was December with a little snow and freezing. Had to turn it down as it got to warm. The only thing I found missing was no biscuits in the room. First hotel we have been to that do not have biscuits. In addition to this, there was no information in the room that told us what times were for example, nothing telling us what time the leisure facility’s were open/closed. What time was check out.

Stayed here a few times, room was better quality than previous family room we stayed in, beds comfortable and lots of space, but cleaning could have been a little better. hairs in shower area and child’s toy found just under edge of bed. Breakfast provided a good range, but eggs were overdone when cooked to order. Pool, sauna and steam room is a bonus and staff friendly and helpful. Ate in restaurant one night for convenience, but was a long wait despite not being busy. Staff were proactive in apologising for the wait and offering a round of free drinks.

There was a tooth flossing brush on the floor in my room. There was some sort of event happening and I was in a room very close to reception and the noise was very loud and late up to at least 11 pm. When I booked I would have expected to be notified of this at least and preferably been booked in a room away from the noise. Not a great stay.

We booked a last minute stay (ie from the traffic jam on the motorway), which we'd thought would be a double room. The receptionist was welcoming and helpful, but had to tell us there was only a twin room available. The room was clean and comfortable - a window had been left open so it was also fresh. We had a late dinner, which we both enjoyed very much. We overslept so can't say what breakfast was like!

The room was spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed using the swimming pool and gym. Overall, we had a nice stay. We did not have breakfast, so we can't comment on it. In our room, the heating was a big unit blowing warm air. It makes a lot of noise, so we had to switch it off to be able to sleep although it was a cold night. We could also hear the road.

Uncomfortable Stay – Poor Cleanliness and Heater I

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, but the experience was disappointing. The room was not clean, and there was a constant dusty smell. The heater wasn’t working properly, and the room was too cold, making it difficult to sleep. When we turned the heater on, it released a muddy smell, which showed it hadn’t been serviced in a while. Overall, the room cleanliness and maintenance need a lot of improvement.

The room we were given was completely inadequate. The noise of the road was so loud and the room was cold. The window had broken and the heating unit did not work. We stayed there for the first night but had no sleep so reception moved us to another room for our second night.
The breakfast was ok but the food run out very quickly and they were not great at topping up. I was very disappointed with the breakfast.

Staff are amazing as is the food and service.
The stay was ruined by our room which was old and tired. The air conditioning unit would rattle and hum during the night (it was switched off) and the road noise is very loud. We reported the issues on the first night and they said they would look at the air conditioning unit but it was not fixed. We were due t stay 3 nights but left after 2.

Awful awful room. Curtains hanging off the wall, stained lampshades, cracked sink. Bathroom door was wet at the bottom where the shower had overflown with previous guests. This meant we couldn't shut the door and there was wood splinters all over the floor the whole time. Room smelt mouldy and all our clothes and other items that we took now smell bad. For the money we paid, we are disgusted that we were expected to stay in this room. We did ask to move but no alternatives available.

The hotel staff were warm and welcoming, the facilities on offer were extensive pool, gym etc but didn’t have time to use them on this occasion.
Drinks/food can be ordered 24 hours but at times there doesn’t appear to be enough staff available so there can be a wait and I was overcharged for drinks, I realised after checking the prices.
The hotel itself would benefit from a refurb, lots of the doors need replacing

Overall the stay was good. Would have made it excellent if the property was in top condition. Property needs some work done to bring it up to standard. Many areas including within room, you can see it's starting to become run down with flaking paint, broken radiators, ripped furniture. Also bathrooms could do with a proper clean as mold could be seen around the bathtub seals.

However, for me, this all wasn't a big concern and the service received from the staff, more than made up for it. Have to give 10/10 to the staff for their service and professionalism especially as I required milk for my daughter and with no microwave/fridge in the room, had to keep going down to the bar/coffee area to get warm/hot milk at different times of the day which was provided without any issues and without charge even though I was more than willing to pay for it.

Free parking, swimming pool, breakfast etc was all more of a bonus for me.

Family stay - pros & cons

Friendly and welcoming staff, spacious room and lovely big breakfast!
However, the shower was difficult to use and the drain was slow to empty so the bath half filled during the shower.
The pool was a nice bonus for the kids with towels included making it easy to access during our short stay. But it was far too busy in the morning leaving only a small area available for children to swim (one lane and a shallow area). My partner was at the edge of the lane divider of the family area to watch the kids but he was hit in the head by another guest swimming on the other side, who didn't apologise! We had only been in a few minutes and this caused him to exit the pool early. More adult guests arriving & then swimming in the \"family area\" made me feel uneasy about the kids safety so we didn't stay long. This wasn't the hotels fault and if we had gone at a different time, it might have felt better. The kids still had fun and enjoyed a large breakfast afterwards and the staff were friendly and helpful making them pancakes. There was also a small play area in the lobby so we could relax while the kids played for a bit.

The hotel itself & our room were good. The bed was very comfy & the parking was great. But we had a few frustrations that tainted our experience.

We arrived slightly before check in & were told that a member of staff would let us know once our room was ready. After nearly an hour, we approached the desk to see how much longer this would take & it appeared that our room had been ready for some time but no one had told us. This wait made us late for our evening plans.

The next morning we were woken about 7am by people talking in the corridor & lots of doors opening / closing. Then at 7.50am there was a fire alarm test which we weren’t forewarned about. This meant we didn’t know if it was a drill or if we needed to evacuate. We were wide awake after this & ended up checking out earlier than planned as a result.

We were only in the hotel to sleep but left feeling quite disappointed by our stay.

Ben Kim and the receptionist and breakfast manager were lovely. Very helpful and informative, they all took the time to talk to us. Big thankyou to Ben, who couldn't do enought for me, as I'm disabled, he was offering to bring all my food and drink to the table, so attentive and kind, even though I made him spill his coffee. For such a young man, showed so much care, he will go far in this industry, please make sure he gets recognised for his kindness.

A great overnight short stay hotel

A value for money hotel overall. Some parts need attention e.g furnishings in the bar area, trims in bathroom suffering wear and tear. Beds comfortable pillows ok. Clean. Breakfast ok but they do need to keep an eye on replenishing the gluten free bread etc. not a great selection if you do not like a cooked breakfast. Decent bar food that arrives hot and freshly cooked.However this hotel caters for the hit and run customer and is good value for money overall. A mention to the young evening staff who were very pleasant and worked their socks off.

Hotel is always lovely, altho not all our beds were made up on arrival and we had to wait to get it made up, then after being out all day the next day we came back to the room had not been serviced no clean towels nothing ( we overheard the covering ladies complaining that they shouldn’t be doing this sh**”) clearly the were covering for the actual cleaner because that lady was awesome (She actually cleaned our room and restocked what was needed and removed the bin that was stocked with toddler nappies! )

Booked for one night while attending a concert at the Arena. Clean comfortable room which could do with a little TLC, but a very comfortable bed.
Had food in the bar which was good if not a little expensive, breakfast was good and well organised.
We will stay here again on any subsequent visits to the Arena.
A little note, the postcode took us about a mile in the wrong direction but we soon found our way.

We travelled as a family with a 7 year old and a 2 year old. The room was very spacious. There were a sofa, a coffee table, a table and four chairs too. It was ideal for down time. The room was very clean but a bit outdated.
The team at the hotel was superb. Every team members were friendly, smiley and nothing was too much trouble. The dining room has a kid corner which is really handy. The food was really nice.

What can I say nothing but a disappointment first room
Stains all over the widow was broken no safe no fridge
Second room looked to be nice but no fan working in the bathroom so every time you showerd it’s steamed up so I could not get ready for like a hour after as it was full of steam and black mold as you can you see
No hot water the first two days as there was a gass leak also partial breakfast because no gas no steam or hot tub we went to order fish and chips after 50 minutes the waiter cones and said they were sold out we had no choice but to stay in that room as they were completely sold out of rooms for most of our stay
Elevator was broken the first day as well yes I got a credit for the first nights stay we were there for suppose to be 8 nights we finally had enough of the stink of mold and checked out a day early they did credit me that back but do they should as we never stayed there that last night I do not recommend this hotel the only good thing was the house keepers they were very sweet and helpful also for 4 days they ran out of Yogurt only option was soybean yougurt but other then that the buffet was good for breakfast I’m not happy as we usually always stay in holiday inns not any more very disappointed they need to upgrade that hotel it is not a 4 star at all it’s dirty and moldy

The big negative was the noise from the main road, which was nearly as bad as if the windows were open. Wouldn't rule out returning but perhaps request a room facing the rear of the property.

Fantastic staff service from the moment we arrived which was consistent amongst every member of staff in the building.
Great as a family of 5 to have a room that we can all stay in together.
Favourite part for us was the gluten free options at breakfast and dinner for our coeliac daughter. Made her feel completely included in everything we did.
