Hotel is lovely, service overall is great, breakfast selection was very good. Location wise the hotel is around 20mins by taxi from popular tourist attractions.

The only thing I would perhaps suggest is if the hotel had more for kids to do, like activities it would have been good. There are two swimming pools outside, but both are shallow at 1.2m. There were no organised games for kids.

Housekeeping members were all great, particularly Kriti and Rabiul. At the front of the hotel, the staff were courteous, particularly Sher, who was always smiling and helping us with our taxis.

This was my first stay at this hotel and I was happy with the choice. I arrived slightly earlier than check in time and they arranged for my room to be ready earlier. The rooms and bathroom are a good size.
Housekeeping and all staff are very polite friendly. There is a good sized pool with a large number of sun beds and then opposite there is the option of the beach as well. With other hotels you sometimes have to walk a bit of a distance but with this hotel they are right next to each other so you can easily hop onto whichever you prefer.
If you are going to be doing lots of sightseeing it is not very close to the main attractions which was fine with me however you will need to factor in journey time and costs as well if that's what you are intend to do a lot of.
I did eat a lunch and supper at the restaurant on one occasion and though it is a good choice from the buffet I think it was a bit on the expensive side for what it was. If you took a taxi and went to one of the closer malls both the return taxi ride journey and your plethora of choices of restaurants at the mall would most likely end up being cheaper than paying for either lunch or dinner at the restaurant.
Decent choice for the breakfast buffet as well with friendly hospitality staff.
I used the spa once and I would recommend it. They also have a jacuzzi and sauna. It is in a separate building however they do provide a golf cart service to and from the hotel if you prefer not to walk.

From the welcoming at the door, to the facilities, the food, the warmth , I cannot give enough praise to ALL the staff at the hotel ! The chefs were exception and catered to my wife's dietary requests. Unfortunately I cannot remember everyones name but I whole heartly thank ALL the staff who made my Birthday stay memorable , some of the names I have are Diane,Yubraj,Hu,the gentleman who did the Gondola rides,the breakfast hostess, the doorman and welcome men and everyone working in Shangri-La from 06/01 to 08/01 = everyone is exceptional!

This was my first trip to Abu Dhabi and it was fabulous. My suite was beautiful. Great view of the pool and beach area. It was quiet and the staff was very accommodating. The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful. I took a few tours and people on the tour bus were impressed by the beauty of the property. The Chi Spa was a splendid experience. I tried the room service and dined at the bar and grill, the food was very tasty.

So superb I had to return. Please check out my previous review from December 2024. It was so good I went back for more in November 2025, and will definitely return again! When you find excellence it can be a risk to try and repeat it, not so with the Shangri La Abu Dhabi. The workforce are so amazing it is hard to find words to compliment and congratulate high enough. They were ready and waiting for me, they remembered what special and personal touches made the difference for me. My biggest smile had to be when they surprised me with having a particular preference that they do not normally offer. They had remembered and had pre planned for my stay, that is excellence at its very best. Their Horizon Club Premier rooms are beyond superb, made so perfect by the most thoughtful and expert housekeeping team you could hope for. Abu Dhabi has been by go to chill out hero for more than 20 years and the Shangri La is the outstanding winner amongst all the other hotels I have stayed with. I applaud and send my thanks to every single member of the SL AD team, concierge, front desk, housekeeping, recreation , food and beverage, all 400+ of you. You are all special and important. The Shangri la lived up to its standards… we stayed with our three and one year old for 7 nights and were made to feel at home, the staff were excellent, they were so friendly and helpful, we stayed in an executive suite which was very spacious and had a typical Shangri la decor which we love, the lobby area is always stand out, a bonus was we had the horizon club lounge access which offers certain drinks and nibbles at dedicated times which was a nice, the infinity pool was great with a lovely view of the grand central mosque, the private beach was nice a clean, the restaurants on site were very good with the buffet offering theme nights as well as a Michelin star Chinese restaurant, the location is good with nothing being out of reach of 20 minutes, there is a souk next door which caters to shopping needs, they offer a abra (boat) ride around the hotel which is relaxing… they also offer water sports on the beach and the concierge is very helpful, we had a fantastic stay to say the least

Not enough poolside seating, especially when the hotel decides to host a dragon boat event ent for over 1500 people on the private beach, close the beach and also operate a brunch the same day. Not enough staff and attention to detail was poor. Staff are run ragged! Felt sorry for them, but hotel guests were neglected over the events happening. This was not ok.

This hotel was by far the most cleanest, beautiful hotel I’ve stood at. They allow me to do an early check-in. The staff treated you like royalty. It was so clean they were fresh flowers everywhere. The buffet was the best buffet I’ve ever experience with the most pleasant chefs walking around. There is also a Michelin star restaurant on site which was a plus. The room I stood in at the perfect view. The amenities in the room were absolutely amazing. The room felt like it was my own personal villa. I have to also mention what it was very quiet.

Fungus in the bathrooms , please clean properly!!!

I noticed that the toilet in my room was very dirty. There was fungus all over the bathroom. So it was impossible to shower without flippers. Quite disgusting. I would expect this in a public toilet in the street. Not a five stars restaurant. When I notified the reception, they said that they couldn't change my room, and that they were going to clean my bathroom, but they didn't, or not well enough. I might need to buy some medicine after using that bathroom for 4 days. Shame the Abu Dhabi branch doesn't keep up with good hygiene standards.
Picture below is just one example, fungus is all over the bathroom. I'm not sure why they just ignored my complaint

After booking a vacation that started at Heathrow T5 through Expedia. I was somewhat surprised that a charge was imposed on drop offs. Which may well be fare enough but not being made aware of this and the pre payment expectation, shows it is not we published and being a wheelchairs user who booked special assistance. No one made me aware. Which I find disingenuous. By Heathrow and Expedia. The PCN has been paid. But I will ensure l don’t fly through Heathrow again.

The property was nice. HOWEVER, EXPEDIA advertises theme park tickets with the stay of a deluxe room. The property didn’t know anything about it so we were never provided those tickets. Advertised 4 pools however one was closed for maintenance so only 1 more was open. The other pools were in other hotels.
Other than that the hotel was nice, very quiet and clean. Buffet was good until I seen people coughing around the food and not covering their mouths.

Hotel was generally good however, I feel that the staff need extra training. It was always difficult to get staff to come to our table, we were asking more than once for drinks, cutlery (that should have been there), plates to be collected.
Beach was good, pool was good, room was good. Everything was clean and the buffet was excellent. Would have enjoyed my trip more if the staff were more attentive and we didn't feel like we were disturbing their daydreaming, anytime we asked for something.

First room was great but after contacting the hotel manager he moved us to one which was better and what we was expecting. The staff here round the pool are exceptional, the lifeguard Hun is so kind to our little girl both times we have stayed here. The staff here Really go above and beyond making the hotel experience 5 star, especially when you have children. Cold flannels bought round, your sunglasses cleaned and bottles of cold water bought to your subbed are some of the nice touches at this hotel.

Great hotel with small but clean beach . Don't go during Ramadan as hotel is invaded as soon as sun goes down with locals ready to feast . Residence take second place to the hundreds that arrive . It's a nice atmosphere with family meeting to eat but everything runs out on the buffet and staff do their best to cope . Chinese restaurant was a disaster . We waited an hour to be told the waiter had delivered our food to another table by mistake !! Not much around the hotel .Taxi ride to go anywhere

What an amazing hotel! We absolutely loved the Grand Mosque view from our room. Spacious and beautiful rooms. The main pool has breathtaking views. We absolutely loved the gondola rides in the evening. These are free for in-house guests. There is a souk nearby however you can walk 10 minutes to the outdoor Al Qana shopping mall with dozens of great restaurants and amazing views over the canal. I fully recommend this place. Unfortunately the hotel no longer has a playground for kids.

Fantastic hotel, lovely beach although the view of the mosque across the water isn’t as impressive as the photos due to some property development on the other side of the water. Always a taxi waiting outside and there’s a souk next door. The service was good in the lobby and the beach and pool bars but could have been a little better and faster in the restaurant and lobby bar. The gym and fitness centre were lovely and clean too and very well equipped. Would recommend.

My sister and I had a wonderful break here at this hotel! The hotel is spectacularly designed and has a very luxury finish to even the smallest details. The grounds are beautiful, private beach and pools are pristine and the staff are ever so polite and accommodating.
I would specially like to thank Usman, who welcomes you warmly at the door. He was very helpful in guiding us to local attractions and always asked how our day went upon our return.
I would also like to thank Surjeet, Redolph and Harni from Sofra restaurant who looked after us very well every time we went for breakfast! They paid particular attention to remembering our requests from the day before and having everything in place for us before we asked the next day! They kindly served us a delicious goodbye cake on our last day too!
The housekeeping were very attentive and did a great job twice a day of making your room feel like home. They were quick to meet any requests too.
The reception team in general were kind and helpful.

Overall, we will definitely be returning in the future and look forward to rhis very much!

Almost perfect

Excellent stylish hotel with wonderful and attentive staff. Views from the rooms were exceptional. The only thing that wasn’t up to expectations was the quality of food and cocktails - the tacos and fries were dry and the cocktails were cheap tasting.

SL Style

A short 3 night stay led us as a working couple to choose this hotel. It sings the Shangri-La theme in style, decor and hospitality. This hotel has a huge physical footprint with reception at the centre. Our room was on the edge of a wing so it always seemed a bit of trek to get anywhere (pool - one large infinity, and one smaller wing pool, and gym - located in separate building nearby) but if you are holidaying then this might not matter. Service impeccable and friendly. Footman always v helpful and friendly. Some interiors feeling a little tired but always clean and not a leaf in sight. Location pretty good - we wanted closer to Yas Island. Would stay again. Thanks SL Abu Dhabi

We arrived three hours early for check-in after an overnight flight into Dubai so we were especially grateful to be able to access one of our rooms straight away. The reception team (Chen and Heeler) made a big effort to accommodate our request for adjoining rooms. The rooms are nice and spacious and the balcony is a lovely space overlooking the Sea and Grand Mosque, main pool and restaurant area.

Although we had booked Horizon Club, to get the adjoining rooms we were in rooms 322 and 323 which was not a problem as housekeeping team gave us all the extras that come with Horizon Club such as L’Occitane toiletries.

The pool and beach areas felt really relaxing and just what we needed on our first foreign holiday after COVID restrictions.

We only experienced two problems during our stay; the first was long trousers are required (for men) in the Horizon Club during cocktail hour.

Secondly we booked half board & were made to feel uncomfortable on the first night for wanting dinner at 630pm during Iftar. It appeared they wanted western guests to wait until 845pm for dinner yet I’ve worked in the MENA region for 10 years & have often been asked to break fast with my muslim colleagues. This was resolved by the hotel manager who ensured we could eat when we wanted.

The team in the Horizon Club were lovely & worked so hard to serve us great cocktails each evening. Thank you to Jem, Bianca, Nikki and Madhuri and all who made our stay so nice.

Outstanding service, breakfast buffet was amazing, so many choices, fresh and delicious. Room was big, very comfortable and great view. Loved our stay and we will be back. Thanks for making our stay a fantastic one!
