Disappointed.Our 3rd stay in 6 years-it’s a beautiful location to stay, but we probably won’t be back to this resort as it is no longer being maintained or managed & appears to be run by backpackers.The resort itself: had glass pool gate removed, shingles on pavilions broken or missing, holes in their ceilings, roof edges missing, exposed electrical wires on paths, broken or missing pavers & mouldy sun loungers around the pool, broken chairs discarded in the bushes & the tennis court was unusable &
covered with garden debris. Our beach bungalow: the internal privacy door was gone, sliding door badly needed oiling & the handle was filthy, the bathroom had cockroaches, the door was badly water damaged & window ledges had splinters with paint coming off. Shower screen had massive lime scale build up. The kitchenette no longer had any tea towels, detergent, cleaning cloths,had missing & mismatched crockery/ cutlery, but now you’re meant to use the restaurant exclusively for food.The hammock was unusable. It was wet when we arrived, so we waited for it to dry, but it was so musty, the smell clung to your skin. We asked for it to be swapped with one from an empty bungalow, the pleasant but under resourced staff member gave an automatic no- the go to answer when you have no manager. Beware that you are now expected to stay overnight at Airlie Beach, because the reception closes at 5.30pm, as the resort & the water taxi DON’T coordinate with the few daily flights into Proserpine.

It was such a relaxing place. The rooms certainly need refurbishing but it was clean. Bed was extremely comfortable and staff were friendly enough. We had a great 5 nights. If your looking for somewhere to do nothing but relax this is the spot.

Big shout out to the kitchen staff. Food was amazing. Really enjoyed a relaxing stay, even with a full night awake.
One bit of info. Fly into Proserpine airport. Much easier access than Hamilton Island.

We’ve made a full video of our entire experience here including video proof of the disgusting level of negligence they have towards all buildings and ammenities. We’ve shared our experience publicly they’ve clearly read it and twisted many aspects to suit themselves but no matter how many times you flip a pancake it always has two sides! With the way GM handles complaints (behind a screen with a keyboard!) she’ll find herself very quickly out of a job!
You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge my dear and people talk with their feet! I think we can just wait to see on YouTube what the truth is in this situation and it won’t be in favour of the resort! You can harp on all you like about “behaviour”… but the resort is still grossly not up to par!!! Definitely under staffed or you’d have clean rooms! It is debilitated, mouldy, unkept and neglected as are the paddle boards, and all snorkeling gear! We asked around 4 times to use the suits with nothing but excuses and were given those with holes!!! Really? Anyway we couldn’t leave fast enough and it wouldn’t have mattered how the staff behaved, the condition the resort has been allowed to get too we still would’ve left in a hurry!!! We did ask for certain dietary requirements to be met but were refused…GM wouldn’t know cause they were not contactable nor even on the island to be spoken too about any issue anyone had with anything!
Not to worry… grab the popcorn and wait for the incoming arrogant reply!

The location here is incredible, with cute wallabies jumping around and friendly cockatoos, plus a number of seabirds.
It reminded me of places I've stayed at in South East Asia, with the jungle feel, the palms and the beautiful greenery around clear (mostly) blue waters.
It was great to be greeted (very White Lotus) on arrival and would have been nice to have a goodbye on departure too.
The bar/restaurant staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough for you.
A special mention is needed for the food, which was amazing. Their chef put some very interesting flavours together - top class.
Unfortunately I didn't sleep well a couple of nights as I found myself catching and removing cockroaches from my bathroom. Maintenance were helpful, attempting to poison them, reception less so, providing me with a spray for flying insects, that did nothing to the roaches. I understand they turn up in tropical places and that they are hard to shift, but while I didn't mind no housekeeping for the 4 nts I think bins should be emptied every day, to avoid attracting them.
The other negative was the noise of tractors and outdoor power tools at different times of day.
Thus said, it's a beautiful place and I found it a wonderful place to chill.

NOTE: Palm Bay Resort would be ideal to stay at for limited stays. We did not know any better so booked an 8+ night stay so my review is based off this. The facilities were a little run down, tiles falling off the pool, areas missing off some of the roofs. Tv in main area slightly broken. Room was fairly clean, staff were lovely however a bit forgetful, not super proactive (apart from one amazing employee) view from room was incredible, spent hours upon hours reading with that view in the background. The beach itself was very rocky. Food was good, but menu limited. Again I need to stress, if this was all over a 3 or so night stay this would be 9/10. Also massively limited with supplies. Definitely need to do some supply shopping in Airlie or Hamilton before coming. So would definitely would go again but would definitely stay shorter.

This resort was everything I wanted in a holiday. From the moment we arrived, the relaxed island vibe set in—it never felt rushed or pretentious, just easygoing and welcoming. The cabins right on the beach were picture perfect, especially at high tide, and the free use of kayaks and paddleboards was such a bonus. We also loved the hiking tracks, a great way to balance out the lazy beach days. And the food—absolutely next level and very reasonably priced! Every meal at the restaurant was a highlight. A true holiday escape.

Palm Bay is a secluded resort nestled in Long Island,,,in fact it’s the only resort that is habitable. There is an abandoned resort property on the island as well. Palm Bay cottages are lovely and very roomy. Beds are comfortable. The restaurant is good…it’s the only place to eat on the island. We didn’t appreciate that it wasn’t feasible to take a water taxi anywhere else (say Airlie Beach) to dine because the last water taxi coming back to the resort is around 4:45 pm from Shute Harbour, and the cost for a return fare on the water taxi is about $115 per person—-very pricey. Staff is friendly, kind and courteous. You’ll run into locals such as wallabies, curlews and cockatiels as you hike on a couple of the trails. The trails are rather rough and rocky—bring a walking stick and good walking shoes.

The place is a little bit difficult to het to. Island was beautiful and surrounding areas. The resort itself is nice especially when you first arrive but the room we were in was in serious need of repairs and clean. I wouldn’t rate the resort as a 4 star, not in its current state. If you’re looking for a retreat type place to go for a walk and sit on the beach to get away, this place may be the place to go. The resort wasn’t really lively at night and there weren’t any activities run by the resort except for the spa. No free wifi. Other than kayaking in the Bay Area, going in the pool or snorkelling to see the mostly dead reef theres not much to do. Food options were limited and overpriced with reason but, $32 for an eggs benny is way over the top. The water jugs were dirty. There was mould on the lids which looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months, until I made a point of cleaning it and leaving the dirty napkin on the table. The staff were nice but didn’t really seem to care about customer satisfaction or even checking in. The room we were in had mould on the curtains. It looked like the place maybe flooded, door was damaged, cupboards and shower was mouldy. The fridge is located in the bathroom and so is the kettle, tea and coffee. I had moved one of the chairs and the floor was caked in dust underneath it.
We won’t be going back to the resort again unfortunately. The worst part was that the bed had bed bugs which indicated they don’t often clean or vacuum the bed.

While some things were excellent here; it's very quiet and private. Beautiful setting and helpful staff, the main reason for this being our holiday destination was so underwhelming, it's difficult not to be very disappointed in our holiday.
Firstly there aren't many options to get there (in fact we were only given the name of one boat company which was disappointing) and it is so expensive that it really adds hugely to the cost and if we'd known prior to booking, we probably would have chosen a different destination.
The main reason for disappointment however was the snorkeling. It is terrible! The water is very cloudy and we didn't actually see a single fish. You could see fish at times from the shore but very plain, no tropical species at all. What coral you see is very grey. We definitely would never have gone there if we had known this. We have so enjoyed our snorkeling experiences in Fiji, it was really our main focus.
The pool is lovely and located superbly by the restaurant. The food was good. The sunset bar has the most beautiful setting, evening cocktails weren't to be missed.
There's a few walks which are good and is something else to fill your day. Because the snorkeling was so bad it gave us something else to do other than lying by the pool.
The staff are helpful and friendly but they are almost all backpackers so it feels like there's no one in charge or with local knowledge to share.

I had a wonderful stay at Palm Beach resort. It is a beautiful location. I had a beach villa and it was clean and had a really comfy bed and a hammock on the deck.

The staff were really friendly, helpful and welcoming and the food in the restaurant for dinner was great - the steak was fabulous and I had a special fish risotto which was lovely.

The resort seemed slightly understaffed and so the beach sunset bar was not open in the evening but it was a mere 2 minutes walk to the main bar which was no hardship.

A truly lovely and relaxing stay with no tvs and no children. All my stress disappeared. Good for the soul! Breakfast, lunch and dinner had to be paid for but you rarely needed all three. There was sea kayacking and a lovely swing by the sea. You can walk on the island on the trails but you do need footwear (not thong/jandles/flipflops) for that. If you are after a relaxing trip, this is the place for you and the pool was nice.

A tip - You can get a transfer from Hamilton Island directly but it is much cheaper to get a boat to and from Shute Harbour as a different option if you fly into Proserpine.

If you are looking for tons of activities this is not for you, if you are looking for a beautiful and simple place to relax, this is it.

Long Island is uninhabited apart from this resort and another the other side of the island. It is tree covered with a number of bush walks and lots of wildlife. There are no cars/vehicles on the island except for resort service vehicles.
We loved our accommodation, a bungalow, right on the beach, Ours included a comfortable Queen size bed, a walk in dressing room, large shower room, a small kitchen area with a sink/draining board, microwave (no other cooking facilities), a small ish fridge, a kettle, a toaster, a crockery (enough for one each), a nice selection of teabags, a sachet of washing up liquid/jcloth, an ironing board, iron, safe, an en suite shower room. There is also a lovely wooden verandah with a small table and two chairs, plus a hammock…all just a metre from the beach shoreline. Fabulous views!
There are plenty of quiet places to sit around the resort, to sunbathe, read a book, whether it’s by the fabulous tree surrounded pool, or on one of the swinging chairs or sunbeds dotted around, or overlooking the beach.
There is no WiFi for guests on the resort and no TV. Mobile one coverage was good in the rooms but would advise ensuring data is topped up.
We advise taking some provisions, though this resort does discourage BYO. You can buy a few bear essentials at the resort but these amount to toothpaste and sun cream type of items. It is fully licensed and has a main bar/restaurant and a Sunset Bar on the beach, which opens 4.30-6.30pm.

Quiet, small, unique resort. Food excellent and quite reasonably priced. Staff really pleasant and attentive. Resort looking a little tired in places.
The cost of transport to and from the island can become quite expensive if you want to leave the island for a day trip. Beware also if you’re travelling in from the airport on a shuttle bus. Our flight was late and we nearly missed the last boat connection of the day, very stressful. My advice is stay at Airlie Beach first and do trips to the reef, scenic flights etc from there then travel and stay on the island without leaving for a few days.
Also if you’re looking for a party this place is definitely not for you. Everything closed at 9/9.15, this wasn’t an issue for us but for others it could be.
Pool area relaxing. Seeing the wallabies and yellow crested cockatoos roaming free was lovely.

My wife & I escaped the rat race to spend 4 nights at Palm Bay Resort, Long Island to celebrate our upcoming 50th birthdays.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the staff.
We were allocated a lovely Ocean View Bure overlooking the turquoise water in the bay.
The food in the restaurant was incredible and we were amazed to hear that the Chefs are both very young…… I hope they keep them as they are immensely talented.
Happy hour in the Sunset Bar every night was just wonderful with a good variety at very modest prices ($16 during happy hour).
The staff were delightful and always up for a chat (Jade & Lacey were so good to us).
Most importantly the Resort encouraged you to switch off from the outside world (no TV’s, no WiFi) & reconnect with loved ones…… so refreshing in this digital age!
Overall, we can’t recommend this experience highly enough. We loved our time at Palm Bay Resort & have both hit 2025 refreshed & recharged.

Palm Bay Resort, located in the stunning Whitsundays on Long Island, offers surreal views and a peaceful atmosphere. I recently spent 7 days there with my son and loved the convenient location, just a 15-minute water taxi ride from Airlie Beach.

While the serene setting is perfect for relaxation, the lack of activities on the island made it less engaging for my active teenager. The food was excellent, but I was disappointed that housekeeping wasn’t done daily.

This resort has great potential to become a top destination if the villas were refurbished and more activities were introduced to enhance the guest experience.

Was shocked to see the judgement and poor service from the staff at the resort. We were celebrating a friends birthday. The judgmental comments from staff, like “we close the bar at 9pm because we aren’t a ‘party’ resort” and learning that our group was being monitored/watched when off the island on a boating experience…..

Guests are frequently reminded that they do not permit BYO through their website FAQS and a pre check in message, but neglects to advertise that they shut their bar at 9pm.

Further, on any night, there were no more than 6 groups of breakfast or dinner guests. Be ready to wait 30 mins for beverage orders and another 30 mins for food. We had to regularly ask for plates to be cleared and top ups on water.

As a reference Their poolside music selection mostly features music from the 60’s and 70’s, and even when we were the only guests in the pool area, when asked if the music could be changed, we were told that “corporate requires this playlist so that no one feels offended”.

Heed warning with this property, spending thousands of dollars for my recent experience was not at all worth it in the least. I typically have a higher threshold for inconveniences, but it was just one thing after another with this property.

We loved our stay at Palm Bay Resort. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday that involves lazing by the pool or beach, sipping cocktails, this is the perfect spot. The resort only takes 60 guests at one time ( I am pretty sure there were only 20-30 during our stay) If you do happen to feel energetic and are looking for activities, there are a couple of walks you can do around the island. You’ll see butterflies the size of small birds, wallabies and bush turkeys. The resort also provide kayaks and stand up paddle boards for guests to use. The beach is very protected and safe to swim & snorkel & is a haven for sea turtles
There is also a small gym onsite. It is very basic. A little tired but usable.
This island resort is such a little gem in the Whitsundays. So if you are wanting peace and quiet and looking to avoid the crowds, it is definitely the spot to be
The only downfall we did notice, was that the resort is starting to look very tired and needs maintenance
The shingles missing off some of the roofing around the resort, Mould on the ceiling in the bathroom of the accomodation, ceiling fans not working etc
It would be a real shame to see this place slowly fall apart
There didn’t seem to be any one main person managing the resort. The staff consisted of young travellers from across the globe on working visas (that stay on for a few months, before moving onto their next destination)
They seemed to be running the show, ensuring the basic work was getting done.

We stayed at the property for 3 nights and it was absolutely beautiful. We spent a lot of time at the pool, we went for a lovely bush walk, drinking cocktails, kayaking and wandering around. The food and drinks are top tier, absolutely amazing! It was so nice to switch off from reality and just enjoy each others company. I would definitely recommend this place to others. We loved it and can’t wait to go back one day.

Beautiful, small, adults only. Ocean right at front door of you hut. Lots of wildlife and birds. Eat, drink, walk, swim, relax, repeat. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Left to do your own thing unless you required assistance. Will definitely be back.

The property itself was nice. The villa we stayed in (beachfront villa) was great but in the mornings we were woken by alot of noise from machinery unloading supplies etc. The food was terrible! We ended up only eating one meal a day as we couldnt stomach it anymore. We ordered the secluded picnic...it was not at all secluded, the staff members when finishing their shift were sitting with us and people were walking all around stopping to chat. This was not romantic. The following day the staff members not working were taking up all the chairs on the beach, were using all facilities and in the pool etc. They acted as though we were an inconvenience being there. Very unprofessional and quite unpleasant as this island has so much potential.

Such a special place living amongst nature. We saw whales, turtles out at front, curlews, humming birds and cockatoos in the gardens. So secluded you dont see more than 15 people anywhere. Quality of food is excellent and similarly priced compared to mainland.

We were so pleased that we chose Palm Bay for our recent Whitsunday Island Stay. Firstly the price was reasonable and comparable to accommodation prices on the mainland. Then it was very conveniently located, being a short boat ride from Shute Harbour. All our favourite activities were available including fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and hammocking! The small fridge and toaster in our bungalow meant we could prepare some snacks of our own as well as enjoy restaurant meals and poolside snacks. Overall, I would highly recommend Palm Island Resort, just don't tell too many people!
