The only thing preventing a 5-star review is that towels were removed from my room, and also from a friend’s room in a totally different floor. We arrived tired from the day and couldn’t take a shower for almost an hour and after 5 calls to the front desk. Other than that l, everything was great. Breakfast, amenities, response to requests… will definitely stay there again if I return to Panama!

The hotel was marketed as a 5-star property, but it didn’t quite live up to that standard. The restaurants and buffet were pretty underwhelming, and the hotel overall felt a bit dated. The pool area was decent, but the staff there were noticeably rude, which hurt the experience.

That said, there were some positives. The front desk staff were friendly, the housekeeping team did a great job, and everything throughout the hotel was very clean. The room itself was well laid out and comfortable, and the bed was great for our 8-night stay.

Overall, it’s a clean and comfortable hotel, but it doesn’t feel like a true 5-star experience.

We could not have been happier with our stay. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The staff were all exceptionally friendly. The included breakfast rivaled anything I’ve ever seen on a cruise ship with an absolutely amazing variety, and all delicious. We spent a lot of very pleasant hours relaxing poolside. I would definitely stay here again!

Nice stay. water in the shower would all of the sudden get extremely hot and then back to the original temperature again, many time throughout a normal shower.
Called to ask where the microwave was located and they advised that they do not offer this service which we found very strange as one might need to e.g. warm up baby milk

During our 8-day stay, the room had a strong moldy smell, as if it had been unoccupied for a long time. While the odor did lessen over time, it remained unpleasant throughout the entire stay.

Additionally, the pool area is quite small relative to the number of guests. It was often difficult to find available lounge chairs, and the area tended to be crowded and noisy. The elevator is also small and often crowded, which added to the inconvenience. The staff was not particularly helpful during our stay. I also had a haircut at the hotel salon, and the result was very disappointing.

Given these issues, I am unsure how this property qualifies as a five-star hotel.

This hotel was superb. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of choices and a fantastic buffet selection.

The entire staff, from check-in and reception to the servers and housekeeping, was extremely helpful and attentive. Many staff members spoke English and truly went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable.

The only suggestion I would make is adding an additional pool to the property.

The hotel is conveniently located, with many restaurants nearby, and a short Uber ride will take you just about anywhere. The area felt very safe, and overall, Panama is a wonderful and welcoming country.

Great hotel and a great country, I would definitely recommend it.

The hotel’s location was perfect and very convenient. The pool was a nice size and enjoyable. However, the seating area near the pool felt quite small considering the hotel’s capacity.

The breakfast buffet was amazing with a great variety of options, and the room service was excellent.

On the downside, the lobby area on the floor where I stayed had a mild but noticeable odor, similar to damp or unclean carpet. The smell lingered in the air and was unpleasant. It seems the central air system may need a thorough cleaning, as this could be contributing to the issue.

Overall, I would rate this hotel between a 3 and 4. With some improvements to ventilation and common area maintenance, it could easily be a solid 4-star stay.

Hotel was in a good area, close to places we needed to go. We got the penthouse and it smelled like mildew. They switch us over to the other penthouse next door and it was much better, furniture could be updated. We did notice that on the floor by the windows, there were cracks on the bottom. Looked like a horrible quick fix. Staff was friendly.

We had a twin double bed. The room was basically nice but the beds were somewhere between a twin and a full size. Fine for one person, but pretty small. Also, there was no blanket, just a sheet and only 2 small pillows. I was disappointed in the bedding. The breakfast buffet was excellent and had a huge variety and everything was fresh and delicious.

We enjoyed the pool area but had a rough time getting service. We finally flagged down a waiter and asked for a menu and waited over an hour and gave up and went to a table to eat. We felt like we were invisible as other people were getting lots of attention from the waitstaff.

Also, there was a very large and boisterous group who took over the whole pool area. They had many children who were throwing balls and basically making it impossible for anyone else to enjoy the pool. They were there all day and finally one of the guests made a comment, after which one of the men started screaming and cursing and made a big scene. He was asked the leave the area by one of the staff members. This really ruined the day and I wish that the staff at the pool had been more proactive about this. All of the hotel guests should be able to enjoy a peaceful pool experience.

Overall, for the price, it was a good hotel and I would stay there again.

We had a great stay at the Riu Plaza Panama, we had the suite which was very large, very clean and had all the smenities needed. The hotel has a great pool that has a pool bar with good drinks and a great burger. The location is central to a lot of things, we are already looking forward to our next trip

Room was ok, bit tired. Bed and pillow comfortable.
Breakfast was good and staff were efficient.
Pool area was smelly. People allowed to leave towels on beds for ages whilst they left the area.
Service at pool very poor. Waiters rarely came round and the two times we ordered drinks, they got the order wrong. It took over 30 minutes and two reminders to the waiter to bring the correct drink. He was then upset that he didn’t get a tip.
Music was very loud at the pool. No issue with the music itself, just unnecessarily loud.

My room has issues. I had a major leak from the toilet. I reported it to the hotel and even after the maintenance guy said I needed a new room it took 2 days for me to escalate the issue before a new room was provided.

The new room the toilet took a long time to refill and was noisy. Much of the convenience didnt work in the room and the day i was leaving i say bug that resembled a bed bug crawl under the fridge.

Visitor Policy should have been explained upfront. It was $80 US for any visitors. Online i was told it was only overnight which was incorrect. If someone entered the room and left I would have to pay twice. I booked the room for 2 but it still was a cost to me. This should be more clear from Expedia when offering hotels with a strict policy.

The bathroom was quite filthy. The shower drain was plugged and there was long black hairs on the floor. The toilet had poop remains that were cleaned out. We ordered a dirty martini and espresso martini. The dirty martini was undrinkable and the espresso martini was very bad although I drank it. The restaurant foot was just ok. Great breakfast buffet including service.

The hotel is large and bustling. The view from the rooms are great, the pool area fantastic, and the breakfast was excellent! The rooms are dated, and getting run down, but are clean. The neighbourhood was okay, but busy with traffic out front. The air conditioning in the rooms at night could be better, I woke up hot! Overall, I’d give it 3.5 if I could.
