This hotel had positives and negatives. WiFi was weak. Staff was very friendly. We didn’t like elevator noise. Breakfast was OK but nothing to write home about. BUT: it was clean. Beds were comfy. Staff were friendly. And you could not ask for a better location. We added an additional night so obviously could not have been bad. Taxi can’t get you all the way to the hotel. The location was worth all the negatives for us. If we return we will either stay here again or one of the others really close to here. Loved Istanbul very much.

From one point of view, location is excellent - it is in the very center, you can walk to all historic places. From another, it is not reachable by car, so a cab driver left us far from the place as the streets are closed for cars. The same when we were leaving for the airport, the transfer was organized by the hotel but still we had to walk to another street when the car could come. The rooms are tiny and the bathroom stinks, as the building is very old. They tried to renovate it but they could have done less rooms but make them larger and with real windows and not the thing they made. When the hotel staff organized the transfer to airport for us, they charged is $50 which is more or less a normal price there and we agreed, but they joined us and another family in the same, without even asking us, and when we complained they gave us back only $10. In general, be very careful with money there, as people try to cheat you.

The hotel in the middle of the attractions.

Great location and clean hotel. It is just a few minutes from Sultanahmet tram station and a couple stops away from both the Grand Bazaar and Eminonu ferry boats. I'll definitely reserve it again when visiting Istanbul.

Location is perfect, close to the tramway station and to all the touristic sites.
Breakfast buffet at the rooftop is good and have a good view.
Everything else was average. (clean small room, tight elevator, pour acoustic isolation between rooms)
Comparing to the price per night i do recommend this hotel.

Absolutely love the location of this hotel as it located right in front of Sultan Ahmet tramway station and nearby to many places of attraction. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Staffs are very friendly. However, during my second trip to Istanbul recently, I was transferred to another hotel because the receptionist has sold my room to a couple who did not turn up on the day for check in but demand for a room on the next day they came and the hotel sold my room to the couple. In my opinion, they should have transferred the couple to the next hotel because my booking has already been paid and confirmed. Even thought they have upgraded my room but still I felt unsatisfied because of the distant to the next hotel. The main reason I choose Star Holiday Hotel is because of the location and convenience to walk around. I would come back to the same hotel again but I hope the same situation will not happen again.

The hotel has good and bad points. The location is excellent it is so close to the tourist attractions and close to the tram for transport. Inside the hotel it’s refurbished, clean and nice decor. The room has good facilities like kettle and teabags, fridge, heating and air-conditioning, slippers and a hairdryer.
The bad point is the room is very small with hardly any space where you can put your luggage or clothes. The other bad point is the noise from some of the hotel guests and similarly the cleaners in the morning they start talking to each other and the soundproofing is not good. This is a problem for someone who is light sleeper.

Stay was alright. When I got there, my room wasn’t ready. I had to wait outside for 15 minutes. While I was waiting outside, I noticed she didn’t change the bedsheet . I had to cover my pillow with my t-shirt. Stuff was friendly and helpful.

room is a little small but star holiday's strong point is its location. there is no complimentary water. bottled water is available at a cost of 3tl per big bottle. reception very helpful on arranging our airport shuttle at 25tl private transfer 1 way. very near hagia sophia basilica cistern blue mosque topkapi palace german fountain and grand bazaar. easy to go back to hotel if you feel tired then go out again after recharging. only negative is room a little small only about 12sqm. cleaning done every other day.

This was our second time in this hotel but we only booked due to its perfect location. If one doesn’t mind an extremely basic hotel rating 2 star according to European standards with a basic, uncomfortable bed for the night and minimal breakfast then it’s fine. The hotel is reasonably clean.
You really would only pay for it’s perfect location. It’s literally opposite blue mosque and tram station. Restaurants and other facilities are a few yards away. We were in Istanbul for only a day and location was important for us therefore booked it again.

This hotel is in a very convenient location in the heart of Sulatanhamet, at leisure walking distance to the, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Museums, etc, and a Tram stop for other more distant ones, like Taxim or the Grand Bazaar. Is surrounded by restaurants and cafes, for inexpensive delicious dishes. We are in our 70s with mild mobility problems and only book hotels with level access or a lift. We booked our double room months in advance and emailed the day before announcing our late arrival. We took a taxi from the airport (80 TL) and the driver had difficulty finding the hotel because it is on a street where car circulation is restricted due to the trams, but our room (#104) was ready for us. The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and pillow, but very small and dark, with barely enough room for our suitcases on the floor and space for only one bedside table which was disappointing. The bathroom was also very small, with a sliding door, and although everything worked, didn’t have a shelf for toiletry and the shower was very small. Next day we negotiated a larger triple room (#211) for extra 20 euros per night that solved all our problems. It had more space and the bathroom was of a decent size, not luxury but with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable but mattresses are shorter (1.8m), do not have top sheets, just the bottom one and a thin quilt, not a problem since the aircon was good. The single elevator is small for 2 people.

2nd night paid more money to get a better room a little better but occasionally bad odor from washroom.

Love the Star Holiday

Istanbul is my favorite city on the planet and the Star Holiday's location cannot be beat. Literally in the heart of old Constantinople. There is a metro stop right across the street and more restaurants than you can count. The staff is excellent, breakfast is traditional and light and the view from the breakfast room is exceptional. It is an older hotel, so don't expect a lot of amenities, but then for my money it's not what's in the hotel that is the most important, it's what's right outside the front door.

Strategic Location to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofiya

I book this hotel only for these reasons:
1.Walking distance to tram station.
2.Beautiful view of Blue Mosque from the Hotel breakfast cafeteria.

Room is just enough for you to sleep. We booked a room with twin bed for €50. Both the room and bathroom are small, but clean though.

Kettle to boil hot water is provided. The guy at the reception was helpful and courteous. There is a luggage room to store your luggage if you wish to roam around the city before you leave for the airport.

Overall experience was good. The close distance to the Blue Mosque enabled us to go to the mosque to perform the daily prayer.

Not recommended for a big family.

Perfect location for all Istanbul visitors

Breakfast terrace alone is a sufficient reason to book this hotel! How many terraces can provide the unobstructed view of the Blue Mosque and Marmara Sea like this? One of my highlights of my trip was the delicious breakfast buffet as the sun rises from Asia!

Anyway, the breakfast terrace is not the only thing that is great! If you are seeking for an optimal location for sightseeing, this may be the best you can find. The Hippodrome is in front of the hotel, the Blue Mosque is a few minute walk away, and Ayasofya and Basilica Cistern are around the corner. Additionally, the tram stop is next door so you can easily go anywhere in Istanbul including the airport.

Star Holiday does have few flaws though. The obvious one was the much smaller room than advertised; although I booked an economy room with two doubles, I was shocked to see an extremely tiny room that is sufficient only to rest. The floor insulation is poor, so every step upstairs sounds like a stomp. The Wi-Fi is slow, so you probably cannot upload your photos online.

Nonetheless, these flaws are only glaring if you intend to stay in the hotel most of the time, which you should not do when you are in the city that is full of wonders! I still enjoy staying here, because the room is comfortable and has all basic amenities and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Unless you need a luxury hotel experience, I highly recommend Star Holiday especially for first-time visitors to Istanbul.

room not ready 10 am was given rm 206..returned to check into room but was given other ..Rm 307 ..immediately found aircon not cooling at all reported but nothing done ....we ( seniors ) stayed 1 nite ..this may be reason given this room ...only window cannot be opened as air con units outside it noisy & hot air .Room is small to tiny ....like Jap standard >our 2 large bags meanth hardly walk space ..Also hse keep can be cleaner .only lift was a real squeeze .No check in lounge with its space was a shoe box sizing ...receptionist spoke acceptable englishWe stayed early June 2015..many places around for ??better deal .

Initial reaction when I saw the room was 'it's small'. But once everything was put away, it was not an issue. Very clean, pleasant n bright room. We stayed in the double economy room. Ideal location. Right opposite the blue mosque. Restaurants, cafes just outside the hotel. Bus tours, trams at yr doorstep. Can't wait to go back.

star holiday hotel is right in the Sultanhamet area, one minute walk from door to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Cistern Basilica. Their shuttle service was great, the staff was helpful and the breakfast room has the best view in town!

The Star Hotel is a good hotel for a traveler to Istanbul; it is right in the heart of the area that tourists want to see. You are right on the doorstep of the Blue Mosque, Cistern, Aya Sophia, Topkopi palace, Sultanamet district, Grand Bazaar, Süleymaniye Mosque, etc. Really, you couldn't find a better location. The staff was friendly as well. The rooms are simple, but clean. A great place to stay, especially if you want to be close to the major attractions.

Great Location - Nice Hotel

It was less than 200 yards from the Blue Mosque (view South from the breakfast nook on the top floor at the Mosque, the Sea of Marmara and the mountains of Turkey was stupendous) and Hagia Sophia. The Hotel was still being remodeled; but most of the work was done. It was a very pleasant evening, with lots to do during the day. The price was quite reasonable.

The hotel is in a convenient location, right along the main strip and directly opposite the blue mosque. The rooms and bathrooms are really nothing special just consisting of two single beds and then bathroom is separate, although you do shower over the toilet
The major problem we found was that wifi was broken for 2 days, and the receptionist just kept saying she would check on it, we'd go back down and she would just say she didn't know. The manager did offer us his computer for use, just annoying as this was a main factor us, having wifi.

Close to sights in old town.

Hotel not at all what was expected. As far as I can remember, there is no mention that taxis cannot pick up or deliver you right there as the street is for trams only. It isn't that far to walk depending on where the taxi driver lets you out and that can be a great distance as we found out. The staff are very nice and helpful. They need to be as there is no elevator so if you are unable to climb stairs this is not a place to go. The rooms are tiny but clean. The breakfast is adequate. Unfortunately, some of the rooms are very, very noisy in to the early hours. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the sights.

Definitely budget accommodation

The room was small and very basic. Both the room and the hallways sorely need a lick of paint. The furnishings in the room are at the end of their lifespan - although the bed was very comfortable.

My room was on the top floor where the breakfast room was and every night late (after 11 and sometimes until about 12.30) there was noise from the preparation of the room. In the morning the preparations began about 7.30 again. On top of that there was what appeared to be metal work being carried out in the surrounding neighbourhood during the night from midnight onwards .... I should definitely have brought ear plugs to avoid some sleepness nights!

The staff weren't as friendly as I have encountered in the main tourist resorts. However, given the location and the price I shouldn't complain.

Great value close to all the sights

The location of this hotel is very good. All the main sights of old Istanbul - the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace are all a short walk away. The tram station is also a couple of minutes away and you should be able to catch the tram to most of Istanbul's other attractions as well. Great location and a friendly staff are the strengths of this hotel. That being said, the hotel rooms themselves are quite cramped with just enough room to put your luggage (and if you have a lot of luggage - you may be out of luck). My room did not have an AC and I had to do with a fan in the hot Istanbul summer. I also chose the shared shower option - Not a good idea. All in all, the hotel's location and staff are offset by the somewhat poor facilities of the hotel. I would suggest this hotel to a single or a couple just passing by for a day or two. If you are travelling with children or are in town for any length of time, you would be better off at a hotel with better facilities.

Shared common bathroom- very dirty! No AC!!!

Let me start by saying that the hotel was in an excellent location for sightseeing and the staff was very friendly. However, the room was horrific. There was no AC, was only provided with one loud noisey fan. I had requested a full bed, instead I was given two twin beds. There was not enough room to walk. It was basically a 4x4 room with two beds slap down in the room with a fan. The bathroom was across the hall. The toilet and so called \"shower\" was in the small 2x2 box. The shower was a spout from the wall that was in place near the toilet at seat level. You would have to remove the handle and shower yourself in place next to the toilet. The toilet and bathroom was extremely dirty. I should have reviewed what I had ordered in the first place so I take some blame. I didn't realize that hotels \"share\" bathrooms. I thought all standard hotels come with a bathroom of their own. I believe there are rooms available for an extra charge with a bathroom!!!!

It was very bad experiance. Toilet and shower were together in a very small place. When you take shower toilet seat was getting wet. Broken sink. Very small shower area. We werent given towel 4 second nd third day and had you use same towels for 2 days. No aircondition. Cupbards broken, window handels broken. While having breakfast about 9.45am staff start clearing table,even though time was between 8.30 to 10pm. Staff dont speak English very well.
Im really sorry to say that but there is nothing to good say about this hotel.

Great location and value for the blue mosque.

This hotel is in a great location for the main sights in Sultanmet. The hotel is not fancy but staff are friendly, and it's quiet enough.

Perfect location, friendly staff

I had stayed at this hotel previously. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. The location could not be better. Will definitely stay at this hotel again the next time I visit Istanbul.

good location, very tiny room

There is no lift, and it was difficult carrying our luggage up a spiral staircase to the top floor. When we got there and opened the door, we could have fallen right onto the bed. The room was basically big enough for a queen-sized bed and about 2 feet of free space to the side. The breakfast room had about 5 tables, and guests were lined up waiting for them to become vacant. The breakfast served was a typical Turkish breakfast, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was absolutely perfect, but the price wasn't worth it. A little further down the street were better options.

Great Location

It has best location (just 2 min. walk to Blue mosque and Aya sofia), staff is friendly. We had 3 Beder, it was of reasonable size but shower room was too small. Good breakfast, had a sitting room and no lift in 4 storey hotel. Restaurants very near (less than 5min. walk) but are bit expensive because of Sultanahmet town. Sultanahmet station is just 1 min. walk.

It's all up to your requirements and expectations.

I normally stay in hostels, and Star Holiday was great for me. The room was clean, including the all-important linen. The location was great (although I like to walk anyway, and Istanbul is a great town to walk in). The breakfast was very good, and the room where it's served has an amazing view, though there were not always enough tables during the weekend. But if you're used to fancy hotels, you might have a problem with the tiny room, squeaky bed, and occasional sewer odors that drift out of the drain, but that's part of travel, no? I would stay there again.

A great place to stay

While the hotel is a little outdated, its location, staff and cleanliness make up the difference. This hotel is just steps away from the Blue Mosque and everything else you want to see in Istanbul. The manager and staff are helpful and many of them speak English. This is my second stay in this hotel and I will stay there again if ever in Istanbul. Super easy connection from the airport.

Fabulous location.

The location is absolutely fabulous. The room was a bit scruffy around the edges and quite small. However, a great place if you don't intend to stay in your room much. There is a pleasant sitting area with view, local TV and drinks available. Terrific breakfast and uncomparable view. Friendly, helpful staff.

Stayed here on a weekend layover in between flights with the wife. First occurrence set the tone of my opinion to this place sour. They offer pick up and shuttle to and from the airport for a fee, it was nice to see my name held up by the young man as if I was famous.He even helped with the bags from baggage claim to the shuttle.....but we had to walk from domestic to international simply because the shuttle driver was picking up a couple in international...it was a long walk through a parking structure with a huge bag and no wheels...I wished I had just took a cab.

The hotel is really in the heart of Istanbul and the middle of all the action,no need for a cab or car to get most places.Room was clean and they had moth balls in the sink, very neat idea to keep a consistent neutral smell in the restroom. The window is more of a vent so that's great in summer but bad in winter, had to heat the restroom by running the hot shower which was very relaxing by the way.Staff was helpful enough I guess nothing special.

The breakfast was nice standard hotel breakfast selection but the draw is the rooftop view of all the life of the heart of Istanbul, it was very classy and romantic.

Billed as a 3* hotel, the hotel has many shortcomings that prove otherwise.This should be rated as a 1* pension If that’s your expectation, you may like it.

The hotel has many positives – it has a fantastic location The sitting room on the second floor is nice with big windows overlooking the mosque and square below. The staff is friendly and helpful. Wi-fi was strong.

On the downside…the room was stuffy and hot (in December!) even with the heat turned off. Sheets were clean but beds were soggy – and don’t take those sheets off to see the mattress!

There were two sconces for light – nothing more. A small wardrobe, beaten up table/desk (not even a chair), and a beaten up nightstand, paint peeling from the ceiling. The view was directly into the next room, maybe 2m away, making opening the faded, greying drapes inadvisable and adding to the dismal feel in the room.

Now that shared “bath” was but one ill-lit bath per floor, each consisting of a cracked sink with mothballs in the drain and a toilet area big enough for the toilet only – and that toilet “room” was the shower! Gross!

There was a tiny roach (just one) in there and the thought of showering inches from a communal toilet was abhorrent. I never felt clean.

There is no lift in the hotel,

In sum, 3 stars this is not. I suppose the price for the location might warrant staying here if you know what you’re getting. I sure was disappointed.

A very friendly, helpful and convenient hotel.

Helpful staff: Besides normal requests for conveniences hotel staff helped me to resolve my luggage issue with the airline. Honest staff: My half torn suite case sat in the lobby corner un-touched. Abundance of food: Breakfast buffet was always clean, plenty of food and friendly hosts. Hotel is centrally located near all major attractions. What else a guest can ask for. A very cozy and pleasant place to stay.

James Bond wouldnt care too much!

This is the third time I've stayed here; it is a plaesant little guest house with Standard Turkish Breakfast No 1 every day - it has not changed one iota over at least a decade.! The big Pro is the location of the Hotel; right on the main dtrett; fifty yards from the Tram stop Sultanahmemt, and close to tghe Blue Mosque. fabulous views from the rooftop breakfast room. the big con is the lack of a lift ; when one is on the third floor it is pretty tough hiking the stairs; particlularly for a septuagenerian! Staff are a bit distant at times. Twin bed room pretty cramped.

Unhelpful staff. En-suite with no ventilation.

Unhelpful staff and an en-suite with no ventilation were somewhat compensated for by the great location. No computers to use their free internet existed. Public sitting room could have been made a much nicer spot for people to stop and relax. Free tea/coffee and computers would have been very helpful. At least the en-suite had separate toilet and shower. Very expensive for the quality of our stay. We did not return to this hotel when we came back to Istanbul - we used Ayasofya Apart Hotel which was significantly cheaper.

Mixed experience

Location is great, right on the plaza near the blue mosque. The rooms on the fourth floor are terrible during warm months as they do not have air conditioning and they never cool down. Also there is one shared bathroom for the floor. Other rooms/floors are probably ok. Also no elevator.

Good service, location and value.

Staff was friendly and helpful, they even made us a breakfast for our 03:20 departure! Room was quiet, shower was hot and everything was clean. Location was excellent with a good and cheap restaurant right next door and best of all, the price was right.

I guess Istanbul is kind of an expensive city. With this hotel I must've been paying for location. Though now that I've been to Istanbul I'm guessing I could find something pretty well located that'd be a lo cheaper. The hotel staff seemed nice enough. Th breakfast was fine, as have all the breakfasts I've had in turkey so far. It started a little earlir than posted, too The room was the smallest I've stayed in here so far. And it had no a/c, which i thought it would. Didnt need it this time. The courtyard it opens onto isnt a courtyard at all but a shaft in between rooms. The call to prayer and bird noises reverberates quite well in that shaft. They give you soap and shampoo, which is nice. Some of th others I've been to don't give you one or th other. and th hotels here give you a bottom sheet but not a top sheet, which seems strange to me. But when in Rome... And v though it's supposed to be a non smoking hotel, good luck getting away from cigarette smoke in Turkey.

Decent, got the basics but definitely not luxury

Overall a good experience, a good place to stay if you're doing the big sights. My room was well cleaned daily, but it was next to the office and often the staff would speak loudly or play the radio or television quite late at night. There was a cockroach in my room the night before I left, but this was not typical and I only saw it the one time. For the most part, the staff were very friendly and helpful. But when we checked out, the fellow at the front desk (who was not the usual one there) would not let us use the phone to contact our shuttle to the airport.

close to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Palace, and Underground Cistern. Next door to hotel is good coffee shop/cafe and hotel is near The Pudding Shop which is a 55 year old restaurant with very good Turkish food. There is also a money exchange 1 block from hotel. Many cafes and shops are close to hotel. Be prepared to hear loud Call to Prayer 5 times daily near hotel. Akin, the reservations manager, was very helpful during my stay. Free Turkish breakfast each morning for guests.

Star Holiday Hotel in Sultanahmet Istanbul

Small room, small bathroom, small shower, horrible lighting. Great terrace view, great location, great front desk staff. Hard to find as the taxi could not drop you off right in front because of the tram. It is a small entrance/lobby from the street so it is easy to miss.

Star Holiday Hotel - the most central location

Star Holiday Hotel is located in 1 min walk from Sultanahmed tram station, between blue mosque and Hagia Sophia. Rooms facing main street offer spacious view to blue mosque and square in front of it.

Breakfast is served on the last floor terrace, there is a nice common area with a bar and TV on 2nd floor. Rooms are cleaned on a daily basis.
