Not a 5 star

The 5 star rating system really needs a review and this hotel is a perfect example of why. Bad management, poor communication, terrible resturant service and patchy information given from one guest to another. I could go into every detail but it would take hours. This hotel is a 3 star at best and has alot to do to improve.

This was truly a dream! I will definitely come back to Lugano and stay here. It was raining the entire time but it made the stay more romantic. Gabrielle and the entire staff at Swiss Diamond were/are extremely welcoming and accommodating. The spa was beautiful as well! Very relaxing! Thank you thank you Thank you

The location of this hotel is BEAUTIFUL, the views of the lake are stunning. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself can definitely use a few upgrades
For 1 the Air conditioner is pretty terrible. It’s pretty much a fan, the room gets pretty warm during the day. At night it’s not terrible but the AC can use an upgrade for sure. Also the furniture and carpets/rugs need to be changed or cleaned thoroughly. Plenty of stains on the carpet and couches. If you plan on being out majority of the day then i would say it’s fine but if you care about appearance and you plan on spending a lot of time in the room then maybe look at other options. Overall I had a good experience
The breakfast is pretty good as well. If you’re traveling from over seas I’d recommend renting a car

We had 2 rooms for one night, upon checkin we requested side by side rooms and were accommodated. Our rooms were not exceptionally hot and we adjusted the temperature before leaving for dinner. When we returned, rooms were not any lower in temperature and we were advised that the hotel is fully booked and there are. No rooms to change to. Along with this, maintenance advised us that we were the only ones complaining and

Staff is friendly but there is no AC. Spoke to front desk, but they mentioned the entire hotel has no AC because this time of year it is off. So the room was extremely uncomfortable. They brought us a fan, but it was loud and not helpful. We opened the window, only to have cigarette smoke enter our room. Gross. little disappointed considering what I paid. Find an alternative as there appears to be no solution for this problem. They gave us 2 other room options, both of which had no AC.

Lovely find between Morcote and Lugano. Shuttle bus collected us from Lugano train station for an our 2 night stay. We had a very large room overlooking the lake. Everything was clean and well looked after. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to Morcote or a bus/shuttle ride away from Lugano. The spa and restaurant were also of high quality.

this was an awful place to stay at. They played loud music from 10 in the morning till 2:30 AM Supposedly for a wedding event and refused to turn it down in spite of us and other guests advising them, none of us could sleep and as a result of a completely sleepless day and night adding exhaustion to our travels, we wound up getting sick and required antibiotics and medical treatment for the next seven days to cure the problem. on top of that they insisted on charging us for the room. Certainly I have stayed in many five star hotels and this is not one of them and none of them, would allow this to go on to the discomfort of all of the other guests and in addition charge for the accommodations. we will protest these charges and I don’t recommend anyone go to this hotel. Finally the lake has become very dirty and it’s questionable it’s any longer considered as swimmable s the water is cloudy with a lot of debris, including what looks like unburned fuel on top of it making that aspect of the waterfront enjoyment impossible. Consequently, almost none of the guests went into the lake for a swim. Finally the food has become mediocre and very very expensive. Much more than many 5 star hotels
This hotel at one time was fine but now it should not be considered a five star, but rather a two or three star and certainly not recommended

Hotel is in a bad location, not near anything. Facilities are old and dated. Pictures fail to sure a highway between top and bottom portion of hotel making any balcony views unattractive. Literally a parking lot is your view so not worth it. There was a wedding while we were there so we couldn’t use the pool. The service was standoffish and unpleasant staff.

Very disappointing stay. This hotel is so, so far from the 5 stars. Its an old, tired and in desperate need of refurbishing hotel. The service at the front desk is poor. Not rude, but just not friendly, not accommodating and uncaring. You will just get the cold polite indifference. The official hotel check-in is at 3PM and they will not give you the room a minute earlier. Must be the Swiss precision. Certainly not all rooms finish cleaning at the same time as the clock strikes 3 PM. Clean rooms become available as the people check out thru-out the morning and then get cleaned-up. BUT, no matter what, you will have to wait until 3 PM for your room. Even if you get there as the first guest at 10AM. The rules are the rules! They don't care! On the good side, the people at the 6th floor breakfast were very nice, helpful, service with a smile. Our room was large, but the furniture was old and quite beat-up. Curtains are dirty. We paid for the lake front view and our room on the 3rd floor was facing the lake. It was nice, but all lake facing rooms are also facing the main road, where the cars drive with hi speed all day and night and that creates noise in the room. Must say the shower in our room great strong water flow. Free Parking in the front of the hotel is nice, but in some cases they need to take the car keys from you. For us that turned into a very stressful situation,because they could't find our key for 20 mins, which cased us a lot of stress trying not to miss our flight

This hotel was very \"White Lotus\" in the best way. It is luxurious and immaculate. Our room had an amazing view of Lake Lugano that took my breath away. The staff was helpful and attentive; they arranged a shuttle to pick us up at the train station and also to bring us into town for a dinner reservation. We could have spent hours down by the lake and pool but also just watching the view from our balcony. The only downfall was the price of the food (40 chf for a club sandwich seemed a little much, even for swiss prices). We chose to eat at the hotel once and the food was decent. The breakfast buffet on the roof is perfect and delicious. Every detail of the hotel is thought out and it is a lovely property. I do wish that they had more eco friendly toiletries and would have liked a Nespresso machine or similar in the room rather than instant coffee. Overall we would stay here again without a doubt. An amazing property worth the drive from the main city.

Swiss Diamond Hotel located in Vico Morcote, provided exceptional services during my stay . I would give a rating of six stars because the staff goes above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction of their guests. The level of professionalism and kindness from all staff members goes beyond the average service seen at many top rated hotels. The staff genuinely cares for the guests and are not fixated on money. I was personally attended to by the hotel manager Adnan, who provided room service at no charge, after an episode of regurgitation the night before, which left me weak the following morning. Sabrina at the front desk and Armondo in food services, are two of the most amazing people I have ever met. In a world where good customer service has increasingly decreased, it is important to recognize, give credit and sustain good workers. Sabrina is very kind, patient and caring. Sabrina assisted in planning my excursions and went the extra Mile to ensure my safety and comfort while traveling.
Armondo in food services always greets you with a warm smile and provides exceptional service on every level. Even though all staff members are kind and caring, the hotel would not be the same without Sabrina and Armondo.
Service is prompt and the hotel is beautiful and very clean. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting again!!

I waited a few days to review this, but in the end when Expedia nor the hotel did anything it’s time to talk. I booked 4 rooms for a vacation with parents, 2 siblings, and kids, parents tested positive to Covid upon arrival and I proved the tests to hotel and Expedia from a verified lab , we occupied only 2 rooms and ended up with one! Due to no connected rooms available connected or on the safe floor. however no one cared and I was charged over 2400 euros for 2 rooms out of 4 due to no show! Tried my best and receptionist Antonella promised to try her best with no promises and Expedia still said apologies hotel refused any kind of refund! As a family we took safety in this fake 5 star hotel and kept parents away for public safety and hotel and Expedia could care less!!

First night I asked for insect repellent cause I had a bee and insects on every corner in the suite, plus room service after 10-11pm is only hand made dry meats and cheese! A 5 star should be 24/7 room service! Horrible experience, horrible hotel and management. Besides staff/employees being super nice and should work in a true 5 star hotel, this property shouldn’t even be a four star one!

I hope hotel updates room, property, and location before posting photos, and I hope Expedia review more and more situations. After this summer I’m done with this website. The staff were friendly and attentive, outdoor areas were very well managed and perfect for relaxing. Bed room was clean and the bed very comfortable. the only issue were the bathroom and this was the only area where the hotel let themselves down. We had a small baby so the bath tub was very important. The taps were not fixed in place and as such the water became tainted with the rust, dirt opened up by the silicon having been consumed. The maintenance came straight away to check and they arranged for it to be clean, but for the price we paid i would have expected this to have been checked before we checked in, also the sink on the right did not drain as it should, minor points but at 5* I expect these to be taken care of before we arrive,

The staff didn't get in touch and didn't explain that w have to book a table in advance in the restaurant (if I didnt call them myself because of some special request, we could stay without any food during pandemic while we've got the last table and were the last guests at the restaurant).
The same about spa - no one let us know that we had make a separate reservation (not before arrival, not during checkin) and as a result we could not do spa!

But to charge 40Fr for a tiny dog - this was not forgotten (even though we didn't get even a plate for water for the dog!)

The spa was nice but overall the property was well overrated and the pictures made it look far nicer than it was. I’m surprised by the hotel’s 5-star rating. I would give it a 4. The breakfast was also poor for a 5-star hotel with food running out and not being replaced for 30 minutes (some food wasn’t replaced at all even though breakfast was still open for 1.5 hours). Their was good on the floor in our room, exposed wires (a massive concern when travelling with a child) and the hotel was fairly dated. We had read that it had undergone renovation but did not see this. If the hotel had a lower rating, and wasn’t so expensive, I would’ve been much less disappointed but I was expecting so much more from this hotel. The pictures are very deceiving!

My husband and I stopped for one night in Lugano and spent it at the Swiss Diamond Hotel. We had a good room, very nice view with some cool spa related amenities. The breakfast was good.

almost everything was perfect from the arrival and check in, the Love the one bedroom through the free shuttle to downtown Laguano.
And fortunately the wi-Fi was intermittent and slow in the room
I would still highly recommend this hotel overlooking the lake with beautiful out door pool and patio restaurant
Definitely hope to return

Most amazing Hotel, staff and services

Free shuttle to take you to transport and main town, drivers are great and so obliging. Local town is beautiful with great restaurants. Hotel facilities are better than you could wish for, great gym, breakfasts amazing... staff helpful, friendly and obliging at all times. Got a hire car from budget (another great service and low cost) and went to Lucerne - great price and roads are easy to navigate on, even when we are used to the other side of the road.

Customer experience and hotel has been the best during our 2 months of European travel and we are hard to please! THANK YOU to all the staff at the Swiss Diamond Hotel.

The location is absolutely amazing and what makes this hotel the diamond that it is, gorgeous views and quieteness.

The room was ok, perfect bed and lovely linen, the bathroom was small and dark and in need of some refurbishment. You couldn't really open the shower door with out hitting the toilet and bidet at the same time.
Breakfast was perfect,good selection of fresh ingredients and all the staff in the restaurant were polite and very friendly, a great start of the day.

The pool and sun beds by the lake were great.
The front desk staff,housekeeping staff and porters need to be a bit more friendly , found them a bit unhelpful and stiff , no willing to go the extra mile.

A 5 star hotel should replenish your toiletries on a daily basis and that didn't happen which was disappointing.

Perfect getaway directly on the lake

Perfect location for relaxing, directly by the lake. It is 15 minutes away from Lugano by car. The neighborhood is so peaceful and we didn't regret booking outside of Lugano city. The room was very spacious and comfortable with a balcony overviewing the lake. The staff were helpful and the restaurant food was good. You can tan and chill at the pool at day or night (they had a singer every night during our stay).

I stayed with my wife and daughter in Swiss Diamond hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is at a very good location, right on the lake and close to Lugano city (15 mins by CAR) and 5 mins to Swiss miniature. We had a room with lake view which was perfect. The bed was very comfortable and room was very well kept, really a 5 start standard. The hotel staff is very courteous and have gone out of the way to help us. Only downside is the restaurant which is terribly expensive. The breakfast was average and exactly the same for all three days, including the warm food. They charge CHF 7 for room service even if you ask for a Coffee (there is no Coffee machine in the room).

Truly 5-star! :)

This hotel is by far one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. They offer amazing scenic views of the Lake. The lake is just in front of the hotel and a few minutes walk to little restaurants and stores. The room was beautiful and has all the amenities. Staff were all pleasant and nice. Buffet food was delicious. The staff even upgraded my room to a luxury suite for a small amount after I arrived at the hotel. There is a free private van shuttle to and from the airport. If you want to relax and enjoy your stay at Lugano, I highly recommend this hotel. )

This was our second time there and hopefullynot the last. The location is fantastic with magnificent views of the lake front. The hotel is very luxurious and well maintained. Breakfast with delicious opitions in the buffet. We were only dissapointed that the outdoor pool was not yet open, in spite of the hot and sunny weather. We asked at front desk when is the outdoor open, and the clerk said they had not dates but in the future sometime.

It was great. It was unfortunate that the best rooms lake front were not available through hotels.com
The indoors pool and spa were awesome. Service excellent in all places. Magnificent views and quiet place.

5 stars but for the restaurant

Great hotel and location, it would get a full five stars but for the Lago restaurant food. Not sure what style it was, but I have eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants and would expect more from their chef considering it is 5 star hotel. The sommelier was fabulous, and even help suggest some vineyards to stop at along our journey. Stay here, but consider eating elsewhere is my suggestion.

Great option, just not right in Lugano.

We stay at various hotels in the area regularly and this was one of the best staff and well equipped ones we know of. Excellent amenities, staff, and great breakfast. Our only complaint (which we knew going in) is that its a bit of a drive from center Lugano (about 15 mins without traffic or 30-40 with traffic in the AM. Also, the bar was a smoking bar with no non smoking area except for outside of the bar. They still let you order drinks there but would have been nice to sit in the bar without overwhelmed by smoke. Didnt get a chance to try the gym or spa but hear they are nice.

5 Star Hotel too far out of Lugano.

Great stay & very pleasant & helpful staff but transport to & from Lugano is essentially private vehicle or 2nd Hourly Hotel shuttle which sadly just is not that convenient. Pity it is not hourly but distance from Lugano makes this non economical for Hotel. Thus everything has to be coordinated around the nevertheless, appreciated free shuttle.Without this shuttle service the hotel would not be much use to the car - less traveler.
Hotel itself is excellent.

Best Breakfast Ever

I was there on a B+B rate and experienced the best quality breakfast ever with a stunning view at the lake. The rooms require some maintenance, e.g. tap not working properly and also the bathtub was way too complicated to be operated. Please check your dinner options first because at the hotel itself it is extremely expensive.

Great hotel, not too far from Lugano

We stayed in this hotel during off season, so it was very quiet with amazing views on the lake. We had a car, so it was easy and beautiful drive to and from Lugano, Ascona, etc. Hotel also has convenient shuttles to/from Lugano. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice, clean and quiet rooms. Nice bar and restaurant, but expect to pay a lot for all a la cart things. So, having breakfast included into the room price is a good idea. Also, I had to paid CHF 18 for a single drink of \"Aperol Spritz\" (first time I used their bar). A bit steep even by Swiss standards. Internet WiFi connection in the hotel was a bit slow, and 3G on my phone wasn't working in that area. Otherwise it was a very pleasant stay.
