Like all Britannia hotel I have stayed in this is tiered dirty, restaurant was also closed with no food in the bar. Room was tiered dated mattress very basic for a hotel bathroom dirty and hot tap didn’t work properly. It’s a really shame as the staff are lovely and helpful. Hotel just needs serious investment.

The two people behaved very badly. The first time I asked if they had any rooms available and they said no, but when I looked, they had rooms and I took a room for 2 people, but when I got the key, they said that only one person can stay. Racist behavior.

Checking in staff member was not particularly friendly - which didn't set the tone well for the trip. Having not stayed in a hotel for a few years, I wasn't aware that we now needed photo ID to check in. I don't drive, and I didn't have my passport on me. Luckily I found a picture I'd taken of my passport in my storage. But the staff member was not particularly sympathetic or gracious, and had I not had such a picture on me I'm presuming I wouldn't have been allowed to stay?

Key selling proposition of the hotel is amazing location, around the high street next to Coventry bus stop which makes it very convenient to explore around the city centre. Hassle free commute to in and around the city makes the hotel’s location quite lucrative. Hotel is dated but has well maintained clean rooms. However, far end rooms can be quite noisy until late night hours. Hotel staff is friendly and check in’s are always quick and hassle free. Overall a great value for money specifically for business trips.

It is in the middle of town but seems more like a nightclub, has bouncers on the door and if you haven’t got a passport or driving licence not allowed on the premises not even to drop off luggage. Very intimidating especially when already paid for.
Room- underwhelming but as expected for the price. Lift didn’t work but can’t fault the staff on that. Sheets clean but a double room I expect a double bed not two singles put together.

Room and corridor stank of weed
Staff were so rude on check in, refused to give me a room key because for some reason expedia put down 2 adults for a family room and not 1 adult and two kids. Took ages to get some sense out of them. Made me feel like an inconvenience and a pain.
Was freezing and no hot water for a shower in the morning, turns out the boiler had broken, all we got was a sorry and tough luck basically.

The reception staff were completly unhelpful. Had a double room booked and ended up in a twin room on the 7th floor. No heating, no hot water. Dirty room drawer tops had glass/cup stains. Discarded deo spray top on the floor. Mentioned the water/heating to reception staff and was told it was on a timer? I have pics that can be sent. Very disappointed and angry.

Hotel itself was fine, receptionist was not. Refused to let me check in because I didn’t have ID, no-where in my booking confirmation does it say ID is required, she would not accept my booking confirmation and was extremely dismissive and verging on rude. I ended up having to get my son to send a photo of my driving licence, thankfully he was home or I would have been stranded with no accommodation and a room I had paid for sat empty. The hotel needs to sort its booking conditions on Expedia out and the staff need training in customer service.

Room clean and bed comfortable. Good sleep. Housekeeping staff were very helpful.
Broadband signal was very weak and useless. No excuse in 2025 free or not. Not very happy in having to show ID when checking in as a British Citizen. Hotel stated it was enforced by West Midland Police. Only found out when carrying out on line checking. No info on Expedia wgen booked..

I didnt know what to expect, cos of the mixed nature of previous review. However, I was surprised. The hotel is old, obviously but they have done their best to keep it clean and tidy.
The hallway to my floor was a bit dank, but it could be due to anything. The room however was very clean, comfortable I dare say.
The rug could be changed but it was not an irritation. Everything you need for a basic room was there, including an Iron. So yes, I was surprised.

Staff were extremely rude and very unhelpful, just saying that there was plenty of 9ther hotels we could try. Wouldn't give us any details to help with a refund and became aggressive trying to force us. Avoid this place at all costs.

Just a miserable experience from the moment I arrived. No parking, tired old hotel, staff seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Barriers everywhere as if it was about to be burgled, terrible shower, terrifying lift, and most of all £120 for the night!! I’d have been disappointed if I paid half that price.

Good price but poor cleanliness service & sleep

On arrival the car park on the hotel website was wrong, I had to pop into the hotel and ask. The lady on the desk handed me a sheet of paper with a different, much, much more expensive car park. I asked for directions but she didn't know how to get there by car.

I manager to find the road, but top tip, drive 50 metres down the road from the big car park and there is another small 24 hour csr park that is half the price.

The room was okay, pretty much as you'd expect for the price but it was unpleasant to see what was behind the bedside cabinet when I was looking for a plug socket.

In the evening I was woken around 4.30-5 by the fire alarm going off, then back on again three times and then the red flashing light staying on for a further few minutes. I struggled to fall back to sleep.

On the whole I'd not book here again unless I had no alternative.

Would give this a miss.

I was hopeful when I saw the lobby but the hotel is getting quite run down. It was hot when we were there, there is no air conditioning and the windows (I am assuming for safety) only opened a few inches so it was nearly impossible to get any air into the room unless I also opened the door (with limited effect).

Worst service in Coventry

The worst service I’ve seen ever. It was too cold. Night around 2 AM I contacted the reception to turn on the heater. But they said they can’t do it. The way they responded was too harsh as if I’m staying without paying. This is really the worst experience I’ve ever faced.

The building is ok if you appreciate brutalist architecture. The huge rush mats at the entrance were filthy and dotted liberally with old chewing gum. Check-in was very slow with only one poor girl running the desk on her own. The shower wasn't working in my room (the mechanism that you would lift in order to have the water coming out of the shower as opposed to the taps was not working). In the end I went back down to reception and asked for a different room. I was kept waiting for 20 minutes before I had a new room to go to. On reaching my new room I first went into the bathroom to make sure that the shower was working. Alas the knob that would be lifted to have the shower working had been broken off. I took a photo (attached). Going back down to reception I was disappointed with the manager's (Robert) reaction to my issues. He said he'd go up to the room and check the shower himself even though I'd shown him the photo of the broken knob. It was now well over an hour since I'd checked in and my patience was wearing thin as I had appointments to meet later that afternoon. The manager returned saying his pass key/card wasn't working and was about to start looking for a different one. At this point, I was beyond caring about his pass key and told him and the girl on reception that I would not be staying and would be asking for a refund. I then had to book two more hotels to fulfil my 4 night stay in Coventry... all at the last minute.

No ground floor rooms. I requested a ground floor room, we were put on the 6th floor! Staff totally uninterested in us. Kept us waiting. The parking was almost a mile away. I had to drop my disabled husband off and was given a postcode for the parking which I then had to walk back from alone, at night in the fading light. The side of the hotel building had drunks and homeless person begging. This added to my anxiety. The lifts were dirty and smelt stale. We were there to visit the Catherdral, when i asked for directions, the receptionist didn't have a clue where it was. It turns out the hotel backs onto the Cathedral, I would have thought a basic knowledge of the local area a must. Really disappointing.

Three nights. Spacious twin room. Comfortable beds, enough towels. Really clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is obviously tired but so what. Great location near lots of food and drink options and only a 15 min walk to the station.
Only complaint which is the same with all Britannias is no plug sockets by the beds.

In need of an overhaul.
Very pleasant staff throughout.
Room had stains on the carpets, and cigarette burns . Bathroom clean but tired. Shower gel dispenser just seemed to have water in it.
Room very warm, window only opened slightly. Fan supplied but extremely loud. The area is beside the university, while my car lasted the night parked nearby, I wasn’t confident it was going to still be there in the morning.
I was only passing through so it was ok, but very hard to recommend.

Didn't like having to park in a public carpark so far from the Hotel especially when you have to put a pay and disply sticker in the window, telling anybody that looked, how long you were parking for. Otherwise very convenient location to see tlhe city attractions. The room was very basic, but clean and more than met our needs.

Never got to stay there. Still need a refund. I came fro. Surrey. They rused me entry for no good reason. The place was filthy in reception
. I had ID. However a man turned up signed in without any ID but they let him stop. Someone complained about lighting and hot water while i was in reception. The staff were rude and awful.

We was asked for photo id when checking in even though they hadn't stated that when i booked the stay the receptionist wasn't helpful telling us we couldn't stay there until i got them to speak to the manager eventually they gave us the keys but the rooms were not very nice there was nails hanging out the wall the wardrobe had a door missing and the flooring in the bathroom was peeling away. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here

A good bet if you're not too fussy, and convenient

It's in central Coventry, with the cathedral and shops a few minutes walk away, and the Transport Museum over the road. It's also right next to the main bus station (which connects to the trains, which connect to the planes...). Condition-wise, I've always thought that this Britannia betters its Birmingham counterpart, and this still seems to be the case. Everything in my room worked, it was reasonably clean, but things like wallcoverings, bathroom grout and carpet had all seen better days. Sleep comfort was quite good, though in this warm spell the room was a little stuffy and being quite central there is always going to be some traffic noise. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel if you're not too fussy about the decor - it's public transport friendly, and fair value.

Arrived early but early check in was £15 so we just left the bags with them and went out.
Request for a room with a bath was met, which was wonderful.
Toilet was seperste to bathroom which was strange but both were clean and the bed comfortable.

Dated but clean hotel. In need of a refurbishment. Radiator in room didn't work, plugged heater in but room was still cold. Otherwise quiet, and staff helpful. Parking was off site, not as described, and payable. OK for price paid (Hotels.com kindly refunded our parking cost too)

Hotels.com advertised free onsite parking but this is not available.
Had trouble with the wifi but this seems to be the norm with Btittania hotels. It happened in Blackpool and the receptionist admitted its a problem in a lot of their hotels in rooms on high floors.
Room was clean with a nice bath as I'd requested. The bed was a little uncomfortable for us but we both have back problems so it would probably be OK for other people.

The was little bugs walking on the unit I wouldn't recommend this hotel for any and we didnt get any customer service.

The staff members were so pleasant and accommodating. I love the whole feel of an old hotel, love how they still have the mail shelf, the chesterfield sofa in the lobby. The room was clean and bright, the bathroom was spacious and clean. Location is perfect and very central.

On booking page says WiFi in room and they decided to put it in the small print that it is £7 per a day for WiFi.

The mattress had a large rip in it.

There was still animal hair on the floor.

The staff were not polite at all when I checked in.

This is the worst hotel I have stayed at and I have stayed at over 50 hotels this year between Spain, France and the uk.

I would not recommend this hotel and I was looking at booking a few extra nights but with no free WiFi and rude staff we have booked a different hotel.

I was really surprised at how spacious the room was - there was lots of room to move and to spread out. Bed was comfy and the extra cushions were good.
I liked the room in the bathroom and having a bath in a hotel room for the price i paid was a luxury.
Desk staff were helpful, security on the door, housekeepers who were friendly.

Only downside was the not having the plug socket by the bed but walking across the room not a hassle.

No plug near the bed is frustrating

There’s no sockets near the bed in this hotel which is frustrating when you want to plug in and use your phone at the end of the day.
They have USB ports but that’s a few times I’ve stayed and none of them work.
No shower Gel in the shower gel holder and the hotel could be doing with a lick of paint.

That being said; the hotel staff were friendly and allowed me early check in without charging me which was a nice touch. The cleaners only come round during your stay if you request them.
