The room was clean and tidy. Also very quiet give the street location. We would have preferred a king bed instead of two beds pushed together as these didn’t have a sheet that covered both either so you could fall though. Location was great, near a metro and the Ventas Bullring. Would stay again

Upon arrival the hotel is clean and nice, welcomed with kind staff. Once in rooms, we noticed how dirty the walls are from previous guest make the rooms appear grungy. Our plane also was delayed causing us to miss two days of our already paid stay. We did not expect a full refund but were met with no empathy let alone any means of some compensation. Room was also very hot even with windows open.

The room looked clean at first, but once we settled, it was very dusty. The tables had not been wiped down and the pillows even had dust on them. The sink in the bathroom would not drain. The AC in the room did not work either. It would only blow really hot air.

The front desk staff is very helpful, including to those with limited Spanish. We had a very early morning arrival (around 6am) so I booked a room for the evening prior and emailed our arrival details. The room was ready when we arrived so we were able to catch a nap before exploring Madrid. The room was very clean and the location is excellent - there is a mini-mart across the street, the #5 Metro line is a block away, and there are a variety of eating options nearby. The buffet is a great value and everyone is incredibly friendly. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Madrid!!

Este hotel se ha convertido en nuestro punto de partida y cierre preferido para viajar por Europa, y ya con toda confianza puedo decir que es nuestra opción favorita. Como siempre, organizo mi reseña en tres aspectos clave:

A. Ubicación: A solo 15 minutos del aeropuerto de Madrid en Uber (unos €20), este hotel ofrece también excelentes conexiones en transporte público. La estación de metro El Carmen está a pasos, y Ventas queda a 5 minutos caminando. Desde ahí se llega fácilmente a cualquier punto turístico. Ideal si viajás con poco equipaje o querés ahorrar.

B. Servicio: Aquí se siente la diferencia. El trato es siempre amable, sin importar el turno. Nos encontramos con Silvia, una colaboradora excepcional, que nos orientó con calidez al inicio y final de nuestro viaje. Su atención fue tan especial que hasta otro empleado la reconoció solo con nuestra descripción: “Debe ser Silvia, ella es un amor”. Ese tipo de personas te hacen sentir como en casa.

C. Relación precio/calidad: Habitaciones amplias, silenciosas, con camas cómodas y todos los detalles que uno agradece: gym pequeño pero funcional, servicio de guarda de maletas (€3/día), restaurante/bar, buena ubicación y muchas cafeterías alrededor. Todo por un precio justo que no compromete el resto del viaje.

Hotel 1881 Madrid offers a convenient location with a metro station right next to the hotel, making city exploration easy. The staff, from the front desk to housekeeping, are friendly and helpful, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel boasts modern interior design and high-quality finishes. However, the complimentary bottled water is limited to a welcome drink, and the air conditioning is fixed at 21 degrees Celsius, which can make the rooms uncomfortably warm during hot summer days.

Additionally, street noise can be an issue, depending on the traffic and pedestrian activity outside.

great hotel! It’s in the outsides of the city but it’s right next to El Carmen metro station and it’ll take 5-6 stops to get to the center (20 min max). It’s super clean and modern; I’d definitely stay here again.

The staff at reception were very welcoming, friendly, helpful, patient, efficient, professional and accommodating. The room was very comfortable and clean and had a lot of space. The facilities in the bathroom were excellent. The breakfast was extremely good and the staff at breakfast very professional, helpful and efficient. The hotel was in an excellent location with great transport links.

It was pretty nice except for the last night we got a group of very noisy guest in the room next to ours which is 125 and the walls let all noise be heard. After talking to reception the told them to be quiet but it took them like 30 mitutes to start making noise again

All good, but missing better wifi connection

I sent few days un the hotel.
Staff were all great and made things easy for me when checking un & out.
The rooms feel old but they are big and comfortable.
As for the Wifi It was very bad, at least from my room, i didn't try from the lobby. Improving the wifi would definitely be a must.

On a 5 night overstay, one of the nights we were awoke around 8.15 am with construction work noises from what sounded like one of the next door rooms. When we reached the reception desk, a phone call was made, and the noise stopped completely, which leads us to believe that the situation was under the management's control, and therefore, could/should have been avoided.

Very disappointed with this one. The hotel is a very old and run down business hotel with zero charm and character. The room was spacious and clean but very unattractive. Furniture broken and old. Wallpaper scratched and visible marks all over the place. You can hear every noise from next door and the corridor. Feel relaxed or enjoying the hotel? Not a chance, you want to spend as little time as possible here. Very neglected and for the price too expensive.

Air con did not work, when asked in reception, kindly explain that because it is an old hotel their system can only be on hit or cold for the whole hotel and they Gad it on hot. Waking up because of the heat in the middle of the night and taking cold showers. I was told it was not safe to leave the windows open to get a bit of the evening breeze. During the day it was 17-18 degrees therefore the room heat up and it was last le an oven by evening time. Terribly soiled carpet, a couple of pieces of paper on the floor from day one were still ther on check out so they do not vacuum. Bedside table drawer did not closed risking banging on it accidentally when getting up from bed. Cracked basin, broken shampoo dispenser, heavenly marked desk/table.

General hotel experience

Hotel near the Metro and the buses . transport very efficient and very close to the places of interest . The hotel however; looks dull with no life in there . It's literally dead with deam lights as you walk in . The reception area is hidden on your right hand . The first thing you see as you enter is the lifts . The restaurant area is more lively than the front . They don't provide you with a kettle and cups for tea/coffee if you need some in your bedroom. There is no iron in case your clothes need ironing or at least information of where you can get one if you need to use it.
The carpets in the bedroom where I was had ugly marks as well as the bathtub. They don't provide you with shower caps so it would be nice for you to bring one for yourself if you don't want your hair wet . The Brown furniture around the hotel looks very tired and needs a complete revamp . The hotel needs a wow! Factor . The staff were nice and tried to speak in English even though it was so hard for some of them . The Expedia shared shuttle was on time for me as I had an early flight and the driver was helpful.

Nice Hotel Friendly Staff

Quiet, clean hotel. Friendly and welcoming staff who are happy to help guests with local advice. The El Carmen subway is very close to the hotel with quick, clean safe access to the airport ( 2 easy changes) and to the city centre. The free wifi is patchy and not very strong in the room but can be upgraded for a fee. Breakfast is self service with plenty of choice of fresh good quality food.

A very nice hotel, no outside noise. Well located, just a 1 min walk from El Carmen metro station & 15min metro ride to the centre of Madrid. It's only down side was the wifi, it did work but the signal was very weak. They do however have a computer in the lobby that is free to use.
Overall good value for money.

Dissapointing stay all round

The hotel staff were very unhelpful and cold. Although paying for room service we did not receive the iron we requested until 1.5hrs ands three requests. Considering this was a work trip and there was a sense of urgency in the morning we were very disappointed. When I came to reception to ask about something, the receptionist was on the phone for 10 minutes without even gesturing to me that he would be with me shortly. He did not even acknowledge my presence. Breakfast was very average, considering I had spent two days in a budget hotel much more affordable than rafaelhoteles ventas, which was much nicer, cleaner and the food and customer service was of a far greater standard. Very dissapointed would not recommend.

Had a great time in madrid for three nights/four days-We planned to go to the bullfights and the hotel is a five min. walk.
We discovered a great tradition resturant two minutes away called CAZORLA Resturant- calle castello- from tapas to main meal everything was great.( they have their own website) The more you drink the more free tapas are placed near you. The metro and bus are seconds away. You can take one bus( 146) all the way into the center SOL area etc.
Also went to the football march, Retrio Park etc.

Room was clean but had no basic facilities such as a kettle. The TV had only news channel option no upgrade or film purchase and wifi connection was laborious and poor. No restaurant no bar and staff had poor English and were not very helpful. Not 4* experience we hoped for. Basic B & B.

Location was ok, rooms are old and dirty. Rooms had air conditioning but the hotel wouldn't turn them on (it was 87 degrees the 2 days I stayed there), the hotel said that it was hotter than they anticipated for May and wouldn't turn the A/C on. The staff wasn't very helpful in giving good tour information or directions it was obvious they didn't care & weren't interested in helping. Upon leaving we requested they call us a cab so we could get to the airport, the staff said no, you can go outside and get one yourself.

How this hotel got 4 stars is beyond me.

We requested the hotel give us a discounted rate since they wouldn't turn on the A/C, since this was a feature they advertise as having. They basically told us to suck it up and get bent.

Ok for the price

The hotel is in a good area in terms of transportation, however, it's not the best looking one. The bed wasn't comfortable the carpeting was super dirty with stains and it needs to be replaced. The extra pillow in the closet had hair on it from previous travelers which was nasty. The room service is super expensive for the type of food you will get €14.90 a day per person is way too overpriced for breakfast. I've stayed at better hotels in Madrid and paid no more than €8 a day per person. If you don't care about the look out feel it's great for the price.
