ZERO Stars: A week before this trip, I needed unexpected, serious, emergency surgery. Hotels are about making people feel welcome, cared for, safe & comfortable, but this hotel (Eurostars) curtly dismissed my circumstances & refused a refund or credit. Expedia refused, too, even though proof was provided.

As for the Eurostars brand (Eurostars, Aurea, Dorma, Exe, Ikonik, Crisol, & Tandem) they don't deserve your business. They revert to protocol & \"policy\" as an excuse to keep significant amounts of money to provide NO services, & despite very critical circumstances. Even if you provide them with legitimate medical paperwork, they don't care- they just tell you it isn't their \"policy\". Apparently, they don't have to care about your health or happiness if they already have your money. That's all they care about- costs, not clients. Patronize another establishment that has a human response, not a business one.

Any travel reservations NOT made on Expedia were easy to refund or receive credit for, & many of them even overlooked their protocols given the serious & sad circumstances. The provider's prices were also just as inexpensive to book directly, & skip Expedia altogether. So, since Expedia wasn't less expensive, & made a refund impossible as a 3rd party, I've no reason to ever use Expedia again. I will just book with the providers directly. ONLY the arrangements I made using Expedia weren't refunded, so why use Expedia anymore.

Skip the middle man, & save in the end.

Lovely little hotel in an extremely convenient location. It’s bustling only a short distance away, but peaceful inside the hotel. Walking distance from all the key sites. Rooms are a really good size and bathrooms are surprisingly large. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

Very disappointing. Lost money bc we cut our stay short by 2 days as the room was dilapidated. Nothing like the online pics. Baseboards falling off. Exposed nails. Light flickering all day. Wifi sporadic. AC barely worked. Hall carpet smelled. Ongoing construction in front so no car access. Had to wheel our luggage half a block to get a taxi. On the flip side, the front desk staff were very pleasant, understanding, and helpful. They get 5 stars. The property? Barely one star.

I would recumbent to go here during winter months. It was hot and humid.

All of the staff was great, patiently answering questions for us inexperienced American travelers. The room was nice. There is plenty of food nearby...as in right across the street or around the corner, so don't feel as if you need to pay for the breakfast buffet. The metro subway station is pretty close if you are confident enough to navigate something like that in a foreign country. The ONLY bad thing about this hotel was that there seemed to be a bottleneck getting out of the neighborhood in the taxi every time except early morning or late evening. That is not the hotel's fault. It just means the taxi fare is higher due to time spent sitting in traffic. Possibly that happens anywhere near Plaza Mayor.

Great hotel, the location is perfect for walking to the beautiful sights of Madrid.
The staff were lovely and they were able to let us check in early.
The room was well equipped with a lively big bed. The only downside was thw pillows weren't so comfortable, but the bed otself was great.
The bathroom was a very good size with all the required amenities.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Madrid.

Unacceptable Handling of burst pipe incident.

Dear Hotel Manager/ Hotels.com,

I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding the handling of the burst pipe incident in the early hours of 18/02/25 at Eurostars Plaza Mayor. At approximately 5 AM, a significant water leak occurred on our floor, resulting in an evacuation. While we understand that emergencies can happen, the lack of communication and guest support was entirely unacceptable. Only one person was working in the hotel at that time. When I called to explain the situation to the receptionist they said they would “make a note of it”. Only when I said that we may need to evacuate he came up. He evacuated the floor very well but he didn’t know where to cut the water as he was only in the job for two months and he didn’t know how to access the water valve through the parking. The only person with the access key for the other water valve was the maintenance worker who was at home sleeping and arrived at the hotel 30 minutes later. I had to man the reception as guests were calling asking about the situation and evacuation.

Despite waiting in the hotel lobby for over three hours, we received little to no updates regarding the situation or when we could return to our rooms. No refreshments were offered, not even a bottle of water, and there was no attempt to ensure guest comfort during this prolonged inconvenience.

I trust that Eurostars Plaza Mayor and hotels.com values its guests and will take appropriate action to compensate and resolve this matter.

Can’t beat the location! Walk straight and you’ll reach Puerta del Sol, turn left and you’ll reach Plaza Mayor, down the block and you’ll reach the Tirso de Molina stop on the Metro 1 (light blue) line which will take you to all the sights in Madrid. The only issue is every morning you have to walk through the corner church giving out food for the homeless and sidewalk can get extremely crowded.
