Clean and ideally located for first time in Madrid

Mola is ideally located for a first visit to Madrid. It isn’t in a hip neighborhood but it is smack in the middle of the center, less than 5 minutes away from Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, etc. Most tourist sights are a stone throw away which make the hostel a perfect home base for a first visit to the city. The room and en-suite bathroom were very clean (above average for a hostel). There are some visible signs of humidity around the hostel but it doesn’t smell of mold or anything like that- I think they might have had an isolated flooding incident that they haven’t fully fixed from a cosmetic standpoint. The friendly staff was available 24/7. While I wouldn’t stay in this area of Madrid again (I’d probably go to Chueca or Malasaña for a second trip to Madrid) I would definitely recommend the hostel for first timers in the city!

Champions League weekend

Clean and comfortable with friendly staff. Window blinds broken so early sun a problem. Champions league final weekend so I'm embarrassed to say what I paid to share a room with 7 others but all accommodation in the city had inflated rates. Thankfully the bars and restaurants kept their prices normal. Hostel convenient to city centre. First time doing the hostel thing and that box is ticked for me.

The hostel is well located, easy access to public transit. However, the hostel is a lot larger than expected and accommodates a significant amount of people, that I don't think the staff can necessarily attend to. The climate is not well controlled in the rooms, especially on the top bunk, it's way too hot (mentioned in several other reviews). Each bed should have a curtain (also mentioned in several other reviews), there is a lack of privacy, taking into account it's a shared room. The lights randomly came on in the room in the middle of the night and could not be shut off, at the very least a curtain would have helped. I would recommend the hostel, but only if you get a private room.

Location was perfect. Our room was a private apartment, and for the $$ was just OK. Bed good. Bathroom modernized but not ‘water proof’ and after a shower the water was everywhere (and we were careful). Overall, just lacking a little in terms of paint, etc. Needed some TLC👌

This hostel was good value. The staff was ok but was reluctant to help when you had qs. I was also placed in an all male suite when I actually requested an all female suite. I didn’t mind it too much but it was definitely unprofessional that rather than communicating this to me during check in, they spoke among themselves in spanish to just put me in the suite and see if I cared. Additionally, the locker I was assigned to was not useable. You couldn’t open it due to the wall layout of the room. They provided me with another locker but the staff attitude couldn’t have been bothered. Overall, it was good value but don’t expect that you’ll get what you booked! Poor communication on the staff part.

Nice location, some things to improve

Pros: - The location is perfect! It’s only 4 minutes walking from Sol Metro Station. - There is an en-suite in the bedroom. - Despite of the fact that you have to pay for the breakfast, it’s very very good for 5 euros. - The bed and mattress were very comfy. Cons: There was only one shower for 8 people in the room so sometimes I had to wait. - They don’t provide toiletries, if you want you can rent a towel. The shower had a lot of mold in the ceiling and sometimes was dirty.

I had stayed at this hostel for 3 different nights. The staff was more than helpful and friendly. If you arrive early before check-in they have lockers to rent out, which was very convenient. For the most part, restrooms and linens were clean - some restrooms were not as cleaned as others, but I wasn't overly grossed out. The location is very convenient to the center of Madrid and public transportation. The only downside is the night-time crowd that hangs around the hostel - I had no issues but just something to be aware of.

Great location, with some improvements to room

Location was very good. But the accommodation could do with a few improvements such as easier access to the top bunk & more hooks/ shelves in the toilet/ shower etc. Also a proper seating area with a small table in the room as my bed was top bunk so I couldn't even find a place to sit to wear my shoes!!

The place is perfect ! The dorm doors need to be lubricate too noisy when people open and close it disturbing the peace of others while sleeping , also need to make guest aware of respecting the sleep or other and put their phones on silent , and not to hang at balconies after midnight , pretty much educate the guest to respect the dorms , beside that, the place and bed are super comfortable , the staff very kind and helpful , the place is beyond clean, and the breakfast buffet perfect !! Love this place !! Thank you

Great location and great value

This is such a nice hostel for a very competitive price. The beds are semi-private and comfortable. One thing backpackers all have in common is that we’re all on a budget - food and alcohol at the bar was super cheap! Absolutely ideal. Only recommendation is that their pub crawl needs more value. Only one shot per bar for the price is not worth it.

Room design is very good - bathroom, toilet, and tap are separated so more people could get ready at the same time.
Location is super convenient; with bus station right in front of it, various convenient stores within the neighborhood opened till midnight, and just one block away from two metro stations. Walkable distance to many key tourist attractions.

Be ready to pay 40% more if you need to store bags

Staff completely oblivious and unhelpful. If you need to store bags on your day of departure, be prepared to pay a hefty fee that no one warns you about when booking. They have no luggage storage room, only expensive lockers that your bag will barely fit in. And you may need to lift it several feet off the ground, so if it’s a 50 pound checked piece, have your muscles ready. To store a checked bag and a carryon, the cost was 7 euros (for 6 hours!) and the carryon had to be jammed in as it’s not designed to accommodate the wheels. Depending on where your bed is, the light from the bathroom will shine directly in your eyes. Shower in bathroom was falling apart. The hot water coming out of the machine to make tea with is already yellow! And if you complain about anything, staff just shrugs their shoulders at you. By the time I paid the luggage storage fee, I increased the cost 40% and could have just stayed in a single room somewhere else. Location is good, but there are plenty of other options close by.

Good location

This is in a good location. Close to everything. It’s a big place and it seems like the staff can just barely keep up with it. Everyone seems a little overwhelmed. They aren’t rude but they are right on the border of it. Their were a lot of little kids there. At one point during my stay the eating area was essentially closed down at dinner time because there was what seemed to be a party for 30-40 nine yr olds. If I knew that was gonna happen I wouldn’t have booked. The room was hot. They’re 5 euro breakfast is very good!

Do not book! My room was robbed!

It was alright at check in when I arrived at 9pm. The room lockers do not have locks however. As the room seemed secure (you need your keycard to get into the corridor and your room), I felt safe. Went on a pubcrawl that they organised that night. At the last club I was harrassed by the bouncer and held back when I tried looking for my jacket (I came here in winter) as he accused me of stealing. I tried explaining (English speaker here) and asked him to watch me look for it if he was worried I'd take what wasn't mine. But no, he proceeded to push me away from the pile of jackets I was looking through. I couldn't find the tour guide anywhere and had to rely on a stranger walking me back to Mola because I had no idea where I was. I reported this to the front desk staff when I got back, and I'm yet to hear back about what was/is being done. The next day I was out all day, and it was only when checking my accounts online I noticed fraudulent activity. I realized my cards and cash had been stolen during the day from my locker. Again, staff were not helpful, all I got was \"sorry, this is unusual\" and pointing me to a police station. I'm yet to hear back from management about this incident either. Basically it was the worst 2days. 10/10 would NOT recommend.

Great hostel in the perfect location. My only request for improvement would be to provide a sink in the communal areas to wash fresh food or to refill the kettle... not all travellers live on microwave food. Otherwise a fantastic stay and highly recommended. Thank you Mola hostel.

Stinky bathroom and rude staff

First experience at a hostel and it wasnt quite the greatest. Beds were nice. The only thing I wasn’t so pleased was how dirty the girls in my room were. The bathroom was smelling like rotting fish because the garbage hasnt been cleaned and nobody bothered to even ask until I asked but they never came. I had to use the bathroom outside the room. Staff were nice except for this one girl working at the cafeteria. She was straight up rude and had an attitude problem, she looked unhappy working there. Is this what I get for booking into a hostel and not a hotel?

Great location, terrible conditions.

The exact location of the hostel is prime for seeing everything around the city easily by foot and the common rooms/accommodation rooms are hygienic and modern.
HUGE problem with the heating. I was sweating and couldn’t sleep the entire first night along with anyone on that series of rooms in a top bunks. They moved me the next day to a lower bunk which was a little better but not great.
Storage for bags is generous but tricky to get to.

As far as European or Spain hostel are concerned it was one of my better stays. Comfy beds in new design, no crackling 1-inch mattresses but a nice size one. Very good bathrooms and excellent common area. Well priced even though can be pricey around holidays ($128 per night for a 8 room hostel bed on Dec 8th). Recommended!

Highly recommended

My overall stay was excellent. I never felt estranged in Mola hostel for the following reasons:
1. Beatrice, one of the receptionists, was very welcoming. I hope I remembered her name right. She's Italian, but she speaks Spanish and English well. She's friendly and approachable.
2. The room is well spaced and will lit. The beds are equally distanced. My room has its own toilet, which is, together with the room, getting cleaned daily.
3. The hotel is highly accessible to all major tourist spots in Madrid, by foot. Name all you can.
4. The hotel serves eat all you can breakfast daily for a very affordable price.
5. Hotel staff, apart from Beatrice, are approachable.
6. Hotel is flexible in check in and check-out. They didn't have to make me wait for the check-in time to get in to my room.
7. The check out as well was very swift. Just don't lose your deposit receipt and you're perfectly fine.

There you go. All those seven points should encourage you to stay in Mola hostel.

great stay

the room got a smell due to poor ventilation but I like the size of the bed, it's big and spacious. would be nice if they add a curtain so everyone gets more privacy. the steps to the upper bunk is dangerous, it's merely inches where you put your feet to climb up the bed, I really hope they fix this..... I almost fall on my way down, as I missed the narrow step! 5euros for buffet breakfast is quite good value!

Hostel close to everything Not place for Sleep!

I checked in with friendly staff. Got to room to find my bed was not available. Got to check in to another room, however, the side of building my room was on, was NOT sound proof, and for the short amount of my stay, I had to hear loud conversations until 4:30a.m., outside of the building. Really? Where is the respect for the traveler in need of rest on a Thursday night? just my luck to make it less restful, were sirens, loud sounds from vehicles and to top it off, female snorer, too!!! Price is good, but downside is too much NOISE!

Best hostel I've stayed in during my eurotrip. It's right in the city center and close to great food. It's not far from many clubs. Icon club right next door is a good time for sure. The rooms themselves are super nice and well maintained. There are so many activities going on through the hostel as well. And for that price you can't beat it.

I had to book this hostel for 2 nights and it was quiet pleasing, though we were 8 people in the same room, we had a bathroom in the same floor if our room's bathroom was already occupied.

Overall cleanliness was excellent!

I had my own pass card so I didn't have to put the card at the reception when I went out, like most of 2 stars hostels do!

My first hostel experience ever . And it's certainly the first of many . Pay little more attention to details (not speaking cleanliness - the place was spotless) I mean ensure the facilities work , more regular checks. But really enjoyed my stay . Friendly staff , clean hostel , even my room mates were cool :) . I spend a lot of money on five star hotels (mandarin oriental, Shangri-la etc) this is good hostel !

Mola! = Awesome

Mola was close to the Puerta del Sol and the Tirso De Molina metro stop. It was close to many of Madrid's attractions. The room was clean, fresh and comfortable. The lounge makes great sangria. For a hostel, it's a great deal!
My only complaints would be that sound carries in the hallways and the entrance is often crowded with people checking in.

Perfect location right in the centre of the city.

The hostel is less then 5 mins walk to three metro stations and to the mains squares of plaza mayor and Puerto del sol. A perfect location. The free walking tour was a good opportunity to see some of the city that is hard to find from the guide book.

If you like the smell of stinky feet

Room with 7 other dudes I did not know. Smelly feet, booze and cigarette smoke filled the room. Don't get me wrong, all nice guys who made attempts at being quite when they came in at all hours of the night, but they all seemed to be afraid of taking a shower. The room smelled like a gym.

Best Hostel in Madrid, Best hostel in Europe!

This Hostel is SO amazing. It is by far the best one I've stayed in. This place is hotel quality. The beds are clean and comfortable, the blankets are soft and warm, the area to sleep in is HUGE, the bathroom area is impeccable. Basically, this place has it all. The sorrounding area is in the heart of madrid, laundry facility charges are reasonable, staff is kind and welcoming, best hostel experience ever. I recommend this place, and if I ever go back to Madrid, this is where I'm staying.

Best hostel experience I ever had... very clean and the guys at the reception were nice and supportive when I showed up with no cash to leave a deposit, cause I had my wallet stolen on the way from the airport.

Would do it again

My first time in a hostal. Very clean, modern rooms compared to others I searched. My suite had 8 bunk-style beds with a separate very clean bath and shower area for these 8 people. I think each suite is similar. Not a fan of having to be so quiet or sleeping with strangers. But a hostels main purpose is for sleeping so I get it. Pleased overall.

Large scale hostel, centrally located, ideal.

This hostel is ideally located (near Sol metro station), clean, purpose designed, it is just the job. I would recommend like me that if you book a room, try and get a 6 person dorm or less as it is very popular and extra people means more inconvenience, i.e. shower, toilet, talking etc. Each bunk has a massive locker underneath with ample room for luggage, don't forget your padlock (I recommend a combination padlock). The room had a hairdryer and toilet and shower was just for our room of 6 people, which was good. No eating or drinking in the room (except water), but there is a common area on level -2. Wifi was good signal strength and available all over the building. I recommend a bottom bunk if possible. Each bunk is private enough with a light and a 240v socket. Toilet and shower were cleaned everyday and sparkled, well done to the cleaner of room 203. Staff were helpful although after checkin I didn't really deal with them.

I'm from the USA traveling alone and I was a little apprehensive at first since I never share rooms before, I went to the front desk several times asking questions and trying to understand the place and their system. The youngsters at the front desk were super kind and fun to talk to, answered all my questions always with a smile. Then I met the girls at the share room and the show me were everything was, my bed was clean and fresh an super spacious!!! I realized that there are lots of girls from many nacionalities traveling alone like myself and sharing is big part of traveling!! They were amazing! I thought the drawers were we kept our luggage needed some oil so they stopped making those squeaking noises. Left a message at the front desk for maintenance to come fix them.. Maintenance did no show up during my stated and i hope they did soon after. I recommend this sharing room system 100% now in Madrid, especially if you are in a tight budget and want to do more with your money;D

Perfect location

Stayed here for 4 nights. Hostel was perfectly located in the centre of madrid. Easy walking access to major tourist attractions. Cleaner would come everyday and clean the room and washroom area. The bed was also very comfortable. Common room downstairs has a fridge and microwaves which makes it easy to prepare food. Only negative thing I have to say is that the draws under the beds were very squeaky which would wake you up everytime they were opened. Very happy with my stay here!

Both good and not so good!

Location is very central but also means noisy at night due to people staying late (or very early morning). Sometimes can hear people screaming probably due to drunkenness! Good shower and in general quite clean as it depends the people. Some are quite messy! Some came back like 3am and woke people up! No kettle to boil water & need to use microwave!

Clean and quiet

This is a beautiful hostel. It's very clean and located within 5 minutes walking distance to Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol. I never once felt unsafe. The lounge is in the basement which keeps the noise low. I would stay here again.

Modern, Clean, No noise from street

The rooms were same as the photos. We were a family for 4 and had our own bathroom which worked well. Although the area is busy with traffic, we couldn't hear any street noise. On a couple occasions, we were woken up by noise in the hallways. It didn't last long.

Best hostel I've ever stayed at

Mola was great. Probably the best hostel I have ever stayed at, and I've stayed at a lot. The rooms had very fun, modern decorations, the beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was very nice, and the whole place was very clean. The lounge/kitchen area was what was the best, though. Great kitchen, free laundry facilities, great lounge to just relax in and meet people from all over the world. Mola is also located in the perfect location. I never took the Metro even once in the 6 days I was there because everything you could want is right there. I really hope I will have a chance to stay at Mola again.
