We stayed in a double which was small and very stuffy. The location of the hostel is optimal with all central landmarks within walking distance and a metro connecting you to the rest of the city less than 5 minutes away. However, this hostel isn’t well maintained: leaking pipe in the room, dirty sheets, insects in the room! It might have been just our room but the overall conditions of the hostel are poor. There was 1 restroom and 1 shower (on the opposite side of the floor might I add) per entire floor. The employees were kind and accommodating letting us check in late and leave luggage until night time. Overall I would recommend this hostel if you’re staying for 1 night, no more than that.

I thought I was going to receive a room with a safe, microwave and fridge but it might be my mistake. Place was extremely clean, quiet. I got keys for the floor door, main door and my room. My room was just ok just for me in the small side. Nice balcony to seat outside. It was extremely hot in Madrid and just the fan didn't help, opening the balcony door brought some noise inside. It is a quiet street but once in a while someone talks loud. Bathroom was shared but it seems nobody ever uses it...it was always like I left it and it was white and clean. Elevator was great but just only space for me and a carry on-I'm petite. I went next door hostal and it was same price but bigger room and with A/C so next time I will go next door. It is just 1 min walk from Plaza del Sol and Plaza mayor...and there is a cheap stores with prepared food next door, too. Subway in plaza del sol and bus stop in benavente just 2 min walk so from atocha take bus to benavente or subway.My room had a desk fan,private sink,hair drier, toiletries, plenty of towels, very comfy twin bed,fan, table and chair, old closet with hangers.

Great location but the hotel itself was not great. Very difficult to check in (partially because they do not speak English) because we booked our room via Expedia and it took them awhile to figure out that we did in fact have a room. The hotel itself smelled awful and was not clean whatsoever. Our room was filthy and even had a dirty bandaid on the shower wall from a previous guest that was not once cleaned during our stay there.

Great stay in touristy area

This place is right in the heart of Sol, super close to the Metro station. Great customer service. Check in is on floor 3. A very sweet, English speaking reception lady originally from Phillippines was there to check us in. She was so nice and accommodating, i.e. at first our heat wasn't working, and she and a maintenance guy came to fix it. I couldn't turn on the microwave, and she came to assist. Unfortunately it didn't work during our stay there, however she let us bring the food upstairs to the check in area and heated it for us. Our room was really cute with a big picture of the Taj Mahal on the wall behind the bed, had a very comfortable bed and bathroom with toilet, towels, hot shower. Bathroom is TINY though, so if you're a bigger person, I don't think this is the place for you. My husband is 5'10\" and felt very cramped. Also, the toilet water had a weird smell..but we just closed the door when we were in the room and it was fine. There is daily room cleaning offered. The building elevator is also tiny but does the job. TV channels were often out but who cares, you won't be in the room that much! The room had a cute little balcony facing the street which I went out on and enjoyed. This place is a bit more expensive than some other properties in the area but I really enjoyed it and would still recommend. Tip: 2 seconds down the street is a very convenient 24 hour mini-mart where we often stopped to get drinks/snacks after late night partying.

Centrally Located and Excellent!

This is a hostel, so you go in with low expectations - and you're immediately blown away. The \"one-star\" accommodations are on par with some places I've seen rated three stars. The common area is wood panel. There's an aquarium and couches. Yes, the room is small, but it's well laid-out with all of the comforts you expect: ensuite bathroom with shower, desk, free Wi-Fi, good lighting, hangers for clothes, and even an in-room safe. It's also decorated, and there's even a small balcony. Everything is clean, and there's daily service on the rooms.

Then there's the location. This place is maybe 100 yards/meters from both the Plaza del Sol, where you'll find performance art at almost all hours and the Sol Metro station, and the Plaza Mayor, where you'll find free walking tours. Restaurants and shops are close. Madrid is a very walkable city, and this is the heart of where you want to be, for a very low price.

If you're coming to Madrid, unless you have difficulty climbing stairs - which would be a deal-breaker, because this place is two flights up from the street level - I recommend that you stay at Hostel Commercial. It's a great fit for friends traveling together or couples looking to get away.

Really nice staff, comfortable room which was exactly as described on the website, the only downsides were that there was a lot of street noise until well into the night, and there was no handrail, so getting in and out of the shower was difficult. Overall though, a lovely hotel, and we felt very safe and happy there.

Budget Hostal, Friendly Staff, Great Location!

This has to be one of the best keep secrets in Madrid. The Hostal Comercial is located on a street that connects the Plaza Mayor area with the Puerta del Sol. It's a hostal, so there is a shared bathroom. If that's not a problem, then this is a wonderful location to use as a base for exploring the city. The owners are friendly and accommodating, and are a great knowledge base for practical questions, like the location of a post office. I had a wonderful trip to Madrid, and much of it is because of staying at this great spot!

Great value for money in heart of Madrid

Room was small but the bed was good and the picture on the back wall made it feel bigger than it was. I had an interior room and it was nice and quiet. The shower is the kind with the hand held shower head and the thing to hang it on so it would stay overhead was broken. That's annoying but I was able to hang it using a hair tie. Whew! The man who owns it was a little stand off ish when I arrived but his wife who I met later was delightful and he warmed up too. It is a great value for the money. If you want luxury, pay for luxury. This was great.

Our stay in Hostal Comercial was decent. While the room was small, it was comfortable enough for the short stay we had there. There was a very small washroom across the hall. One downside is that only one of the two washrooms had a shower, and that was on the other side of the hostel. The location was great for shopping, dining, and walking to different sites around the area. When we were there, it was in the upper 80s (F), so it was very warm in the room at night. We wanted to keep the doors to the outside balcony open, but the room faced a street that was loud throughout the entire night. If I were to stay at this hostel again, I would ask for the air conditioning to be turned on (if the hostel has it) and to stay in a room that doesn't face the loud street.

Checking in was easy. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who explained where the washrooms were and how each of the keys worked. I felt safe, as there were two different keys to use to enter the hostel itself. Checking out was easy as well. I just had to let them know the room number.

Fabulous little authentic hostal.

Very comfortable and clean. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Ensuite was fine size and decent enough shower. Helpful having small fridge in the room and tea making facilities. No water provided but 24, hour minimarket 2mins away. Room was a little small with little clothes hanging facilities. Perfect for long weekend and extremely central.

cheap, good location

Good if you're on a tight budget and don't care about sharing bathrooms. I had a shower in my room, awkwardly placed next to the bed ... it took awhile to get hot water but it did come and because it was so small, the shower curtain kept sticking to me. The location couldn't be better, right off of Puerta del Sol. Very charming and welcoming older couple runs the place.

Beware!

Despite booking months ahead, and paying in advance, for a room with a queen bed and balcony, we were given a tiny room overlooking the lift shaft with two small beds and no balcony. My Spanish is not good enough to argue our case, so we were left very disappointed and very tired after two sleepless nights in our dark claustrophobic room.

A central place to stay

Very basic room, which we expected from previous reviews. However, the room had air-conditioning, a kettle with tea & coffee plus clean towels every day. So was good value for money. The room & bathroom were very clean. The couple running the hostel seemed very nice but didn't have much English. There was a map of Madrid in room & some information. The hostel was very central & you could walk to most places of interest. The metro was also close at hand & easy to use.

Really good hotel. The couple who own the place speak very little english but enough to check you in etc and are really helpful, as are the other staff. The hotel is easy to find, come out of the underground station on the Puerta del Sol square and find the mcdonalds. Turn left up the street and walk up on your right handside and the hotel is near the top of the street on the second floor.
I had a single room with a shared bathroom which wasnt an issue as i never had to wait for the shower or bathroom. The room was a good size for a single person and had a small balcony on to the street which was nice. There is a sink, tv, and fan( a huge plus in Madrid!) in the room. Its right next to plaza del mayor, easy walking distance for the Palace area and other attractions and has lots of places to eat on the doorstep. I really cant fault the hotel, clean rooms(cleaned every day if you want), helpful staff( they let me store my luggage on check out as I had a late flight) good area, all for a brilliant price. Would happily stay again.

It was hot in the room in the summer time. No air conditioning. Only fans. No 24 hours staffing and some staff doesn't spoke English. Hot water only last 20 minutes maximum. If you have family of four, it will run out of hot water before everyone is done. Owner was reasonable enough to refund our money after we complainted about the hot water issue. For that I gave him a thumb up.

Walking distance from Puerta Del Sol. Caught the Renfe train from the airport at 2.60 Euros each. Short walk to the hostal. Made to feel very welcome. Room was small, compared to conventional hotel but certainly big enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. Would have stayed longer but they were booked out.

Very clean and comfortable hotel in central Madrid

I was very happy with the hostal as it was in a very central location, easy to find, and my room was very nice. I found the room was very clean, bright, and the bed was very comfortable! I didn't spend too much time in the hostal as I was doing a lot of sightseeing, but it was a great base for me as I was so close to everything. I was worried that it might be noisy as the hostal it in the centre of the city, and I am a light sleeper, but I slept absolutely fine and did not find it noisy at all. Both the air con and the wi-fi was also very good. On my last day, the owners let me leave my suitcase with them after I had checked out, so that I could do some more sight-seeing before my flight later that evening, which I really appreciated.

Excellent value in a fun part of the city

We were very pleased with our stay here. We were looking for a relatively inexpensive place to stay in central Madrid where we could enjoy the food and atmosphere of the city for a night. The hotel is very conveniently located within a short walk of many fun and inexpensive restaurants, and the Plaza Mayor. It's in a safe neighborhood frequently patrolled by the police. The staff were helpful and wifi worked well. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location. We had a comfortable small, warm room with ensuite. Friendly, helpful staff. TV, small fridge, kettle and complimentary tea/coffee and croissants. There are a couple of traditional Spanish restaurant/cafeterias opposite offering real food at sensible prices. Ideal base just 50m walk to main shopping street and Plaza Mayor. I would use this small hotel again.

Best Hostel In Madrid

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to stay in Madrid. The rooms are a really good size for what you pay for, the area is perfect, ideally central for all main tourist hotspots and for the metro too. The landlady is lovely and extremely helpful and there is no curfew for this hostel which was fantastic for myself. The only two downsides were that you could hear everything going on outside your room, within the hostel itself as in the hallway not as in the city life outside, in that respect I heard nothing of the vibrance that is Madrid from within my room. However the hallway noise was only during the day as is to be expected and will also depend on the manners and respect of the other hostel goers. The second downside was that the shower/bath area was tiny. This still wasn't enough to dampen my stay though as I could easily get showered and clean just in a more confined space than expected. Overall I would definitely return here in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who asked. Without a doubt this is a really good hostel in every way. Very, very, very happy customer.

Best location in Madrid for the price

Bear in mind that this is a Spanish hostal (motel or family own b&b). For the price of just 30 Euros a night, it is the cheapest one can get that is so close to Plaza Mayor or Sol.

Even compare with the other Spanish hostal that are outside Madrid, it is a great value. The owners knows enough English to check you, etc (something you are not likely to get if you stay at a similar hostal elsewhere).

Best of all, this is one of the few hostal that allows you to book in advance and pay by Visa (most of them don't have this service). And yes, you need to book it in advance so they are always full.

I had a room with a typical small Spanish balcony with flower pots. An air-conditioner (for summer, another thing you usually don't find in a hostal in Spain).

The hostal is very central, easy to get to from the airport by the inexpensive metro (stop Puerta del Sol), then find the McDonalds and turn up that street, the hostal is on the right. The room was very clean, equipped with free wifi, tea/coffee, effective air con, tv, good pressure from the shower. They also leave a little pastry for breakfast (but there are so many amazing bakeries and fruit markets nearby, don't fill up at any hotel!) There's an info stand down the road with colour maps and sell tickets to some places. I didn't hear any street noise, but I heard other guests coming home late but that can happen anywhere and isn't a valid reason for not staying at this terrific gem! Easy walking distance of great places to eat and the palace and gardens.

The room was a bit hot as there was no air conditioner, but only a fan. The size of the room was small, but this was expected from the reviews I had read, and also the price I was paying. However, the attitude, warmth and excellent and helpful service are things you cannot put a price on - and these compensated for all the other shortcomings. Besides, the location, with its close proximity to the Sol square, and Plaza de Mayor and shops adds value to it as a super hostel.

Cosy Place in Madrid

Had a great stay at Hostal Comercial. Arrived late at night and check in was easy. We had a private room with toilet and bathroom. The room was very clean and had a nice big picture of the Taj Mahal on the wall. Hostal was in the 3rd floor the elevator was not working I had 3 big luggages and was a big incombenience with the problem with the elevator the room was so small my luggages did not fix In the room the bathroom was so small you could not even seat In the toilet without hitting the shower and the lavatory, I would not recommended and would not visit it again

good deal for the locatioin

This was a kitschy hostel that happens to be in a fantastic location, practically city-center. The rooms are very very small, but well-appointed and other than space, you won't lack anything. They all have their own unique decor, ours had the Taj Mahal on the wall. The people who run the hostel speak extremely limited English. The wifi is good. The hostel is actually on the second floor of a building, so the entrance looks totally sketch. A lot of construction and renovation was being done on the lower floor was I was there, so it looked pretty gross. Good for a short stay.

A good budget offering with a little bit of charm.

Bearing in mind that I was staying in a single room with a shared bathroom, I think this hostal provided everything one would expect: a very high standard of cleanliness, excellent service, good wifi, and comfortable amenities. It could get a little noisy outside at night, but you are right in the centre of the action which helps while sightseeing during the daytime. Recommended.

Excellent location close to Plaza Mayor. Metro line 8 from airport to Puerto del Sol & short walk to hotel. Very convenient, lots of food options inc. McDonalds, KFC & Burger King for Americans. Street mimes, live bands, shops in square. Our room had a mini balcony. No lift & up 3 flights of stairs if this is a concern for you. Streets can be noisy at night for sleeping. Mini refrig,TV, private bath, in room safe. Clean, good bed. Room small but budget priced & would stay here again.

An ok hostel in a good location

The location, 2 mins from Sol metro station makes it very convenient to the city centre. My room was very small, with a shower bath and wash hand basin but an outside toilet. The bed and towels were changed everyday which was a bonus, there is a free internet in the sitting area although guests are in theory restricted to 30 mins at a time.

The rooms are small, but didn't feel too cramped and had everything I needed. Didn't mind too much as, for the price, it was excellent value. The street was a bit noisy first thing in the morning but, again, didn't mind too much as it was slap bang in the middle of the city, so didn't expect total silence. I would certainly stay there again.

Great location and on a quiet street

Kind and helpful staff, GREAT location off of Plaza del Sol. Room was a little small and lacked a safe, but no complaints about service or cleanliness. I would be happy to stay here each time I get to come to Madrd. Air-conditioning, local chocolate or coffee con churros place across the street. When you get on the street, look UP for the sign to the hotel. It's on the second storey.

Great budget hotel in a good location

This is a charming hotel in a perfect location. It was pretty amusing that my bathtub was in my bedroom, literally next to my bed, but it was really nice to have my own sink and bathtub - more than I expected given I knew the room was a single with a shared bathroom. Only had to share the toilet, which was fine. With the bathtub in the bedroom it was a little cramped but still fit a desk. The owners/ managers (think they live in an apartment in the back) don't speak a ton of English but are very friendly and helpful - could NOT deal with them over the phone but once I was in person everything was fine. There's a common space which looked comfortable and has some hilarious furnishings. Wifi was not fast but was working the whole time. Was very thankful for the AC in Madrid in July. I'd go back.

We were most delighted with our stay in such proximity to the centre of Madrid. We were also most pleased with the cleanliness and with the offer of a fresh makeup of the room available every day. Internet was available. All at a most reasonable tariff. We were lucky in that the inhabitants of the neighbouring rooms kept voices and TV volumes at a considerate level. The only extra amenity we longed for was a small electric jug to make our own early morning cup of tea. We would definitely recommend this hostal.

次は利用しない

受付がどこにあるかわからなくて困りました。
受付は3Fでした。
悪い点がいくつかありました。
チェックインの際、事前にカードで
支払いしてたにもかかわらず、足りないので
差額分出してくれと言われました。
鍵を渡されて開ける際には癖のあるタイプで
苦労しました。早く修理してほしい。
しまいには、寒いにもかかわらず、
部屋の暖房は故障していて大変寒い
思いはするし、渡された毛布は黒ずんで
汚い跡が付いていて、使う気にもなりませんでした。
共同トイレ、共同シャワーです。
15室に対してトイレ2 室
シャワー1個でした。
2日目シャワーは水しか出ないで使うのをやめました。
SOI駅から近くて便利ですが深夜まで人声がうるさいので
眠れませんでした。
ここは二度と予約しません。
今まで止まった中で最悪なホテルでした。

Posizione ottima ma la stanza doppia con bagno in comune e’ piccolissima! In piu’ la struttura e’ molto vecchia. Consiglio solo per la posizione, a due passi da Sol, per il resto non una grande esperienza.

Son habitaciones humildes, pero cómodas. El ruido de la calle puede llegar a molestar, pero con la doble ventana se lleva mejor. La ubicación es muy buena.

L'hostal est propre, le ménage est fait tous les jours. Sanitaires impeccables même si un peu vieillots. Les serviettes de bain sont rêches, il manque un assouplissant!
Accueil efficace et agréable même tardif. Il y beaucoup de chambres les unes à côté des autres, mais on ne se gêne pas malgré la petite épaisseur des cloisons. Super emplacement entre Plaza Mayor et Puerta Del sol, une rue animée mais pas bruyante.

Por error en la reserva nos tocó habitación con baño compartido y la habitación era bastante chica, nos costó manejarnos dos adultos y dos valijas.

Questa struttura è il peggio che potete ottenere da tutti i punti di vista.
In seguito recensiro la stanza ma prima vi racconto di come mi hanno truffato. Siamo arrivati a tarda sera e già per fare check in ci ha accolto una persona sporca e disorganizzata. Sembra che la nostra stanza sia stata data a qualcun altro e vogliono proporci una stanza con bagno comune. Gli dico che mi sembrava che la mia prenotazione avesse il bagno privato e allora, senza dirmi niente, mi rifilano una stanza con bagno privato.
La mattina seguente, durante il check out, un'altra persona arriva e mi dice che devo pagare 10 euro supplementari per la stanza. Non pago in quanto non comunicato e senza niente di scritto si inventano la storia a expedia che dalle telecamere io ho accettato di pagare e expedia, senza consenso, mi ruba 10 euro.
L hotel è gestito in malomodo da due persone che cercheranno in tutti i modi di truffarvi.
Inoltre, le stanze sono sporche con un forte odore di fogna, senza finestre e senza aria.

È stata una delle peggiori esperienze in anni di hotel. Non pernottare qui

El personal del hostal es amable y la limpieza es bastante buena. Sin embargo, las habitaciones individuales (estuve en dos de ellas, en dos días de estancia) no tienen baño privado, son de un tamaño minúsculo, con armarios decrépitos, enchufes en muy mal estado de conservación, una iluminación artificial extremadamente pobre, y un sistema de ventilador eléctrico inadecuado para las temperaturas estivales. Probablemente, la calidad de las habitaciones dobles es algo mejor.

Muy sucio en general. La habitación y el baño compartido estaban sucios. Incluso debajo del armario había una botella de agua vacía. El secador de la habitación no funcionaba. Mucho ruido en la calle porque las ventanas no quitaban nada de ruido. Los visillos no corrían y nos veían desde el edificio de enfrente. No me quejé porque solo me quedé una noche.

Nos permitieron dejar las valijas antes del horario del check in y luego del check out. Solo estuve alojada una noche pero si dudas volvería a hospedarme allí
