This is a terrible hotel to stay in during the summer heat. The hotel rooms have no AC and opening the windows at night is necessary to let in the cool air. However, the noise from the bars, restaurants, cars and motorcycle traffic is absolutely terrible even if you sleep with ear plugs. This noise can last until 4:00 am if you are unlucky to have young drunk revelers on the street below as I experienced. The first night I probably slept only 4 hours - all this for $1118 for two nights! One of the worst hotel experiences in the last 38 years of travel. On a better note, the breakfast was excellent.

Great location in St. Malo, easy access to everything. Steps to ramparts just outside the front door. Room was really nice and comfortable, the breakfast was super and the lobby is a really good place to relax. We have stayed here before and will hopefully be back.

The only negative was to pay €48 for 2 electric bikes to be kept in a secure store room for 2 nights, only to find that there was no power point in that room! So recharging them was unnecessarily tiresome.

Did not expect to have to make our own sofa bed for the children, did not expect to have 10cm between the master bed and the sofa bed. You couldn't swing a cat in the room if you wanted to. Shower didn't work very well and bathtub sink was leaking. Breakfast buffet was very poor also.
Very overpriced for what it was.

We ended up with a last minute night in St Malo and the Ibis Styles was a great option, knowing that we could get a good standard hotel for a reasonable rate. It was perfect for what we needed at the time and the front desk staff were exceptional :)

Consistent Ibis quality inside Intra Muros. No parking but there is a public car park just outside the walls, a couple of minutes walk away. Very conveniently located near to restaurants bars and shops. The lift is absolutely miniscule but that is to be expected as they have renovated a very old building. Some of the Intra Muros hotels are a bit hit and miss so I was really pleased to find this one. The actual rooms are a few metres walk from reception in a separate entrance. Rooms clean and adequate. We had a port view room which was lovely to wake up to. Breakfast (included) was adequate.

Comfortable stay in Saint Malo

The hotel is in an excellent location just inside the wall of the old city. The hotel was sparkling clean and staff friendly and helpful. The rooms seem quite new and clean. Although a bit small, the rooms are comfortable and well thought out to maximize the space. There is a small, but efficient elevator. Future guests may want to request rooms facing the outside city wall which is a walkway around the inner old city with water views. We were street side and enjoyed the people watching from the big window in our room. Highly recommend this property. For the price it is a deal. I suggest doing breakfast on your own. The hotel is surrounded by pattiseries and great restaurants.

The best of Normandy

Excellent hotel location inside the historic walled city. Plenty to see and do in the city (restaurants, shops, etc.) plus round trip bus to Mont-Saint-Micheil and daily ferries to the channel islands and the UK. Very helpful tourist information facility located at the entrance to the city. The large tidal changes makes for an ever changing coast line and pedestrian access to several offshore forts.

Non French speakers should avoid this place

We had three rooms, they put 2 of us in an annex down the street even though we had reserved almost 2 months in advance. I had made a reservation for the wrong week and called them just a few hours the same day to correct. They were not wiling to help and finally let us do it for an extra 50 euros per room (even though it was like I said 2 months ahead of time). Reservation stated no refund for cancellation but this was not the case, it was a change in reservation well before the dates and pretty much immediately. The also told us not to let Hotels.com know about it and made us pay the day we arrived which made it look even shadier. Management trying to make a few exra $ and ruin their reputation.Well done! If I did not speak French fluently we would have lost 3 nights of hotels. American tourists should not stay there. Glad it was just for one night.

We stayed in room 2 which was allocated as a family room but it was very small and cramped, I would much rather had room 3 which was much bigger. There was no air conditioning in the room which was very much needed as we stayed mid August. On the plus side the location was great in the centre of the old town in St Malo. The breakfast each morning was excellent, fresh juices, cereals, and much more. There was a lovely beach within a 200m of the hotel. The staff were friendly and always on hand for information.

The hotel is well located and the room was fairly clean and spacious. Free tee and coffee in reception was a nice touch. WIFI signal was great throughout the building.

Not having a bath with 2 young children was a definite negative however. The shower was very good though. Also our room got very hot, so on the weekend evening we were faced with a choice of boiling in the room or opening the window and listening to musicians and buskers until after midnight.

The breakfast was extremely basic and the breakfast room tiny - definitely would recommend getting breakfast elsewhere as you can literally walk 20 meters and get better and cheaper from any number of places.

Staff were courteous on the whole, however I was disappointed on checkout to be asked to stop my three year old daughter crying as people were trying to sleep - as if she was crying at my instruction!

Great choice for St Malo

Another great stay here. We stay every time we visit St Malo as the location inside the walls is very good. Price is always good, the room is comfortable, clean and has a nice shower. There are lots of very good restaurants nearby and the breakfast is superb for what you get and the price.

Great Hotel

I've stayed here several times and it is brilliant, simply but excellent. Room is clean, large enough for a short break, shower is good and the bed is comfortable. The hotel has a brilliant location right inside the walls and 2 mins from the ferry terminal (10mins walk from the train station). Many shops, bars, restaurants etc within a minutes walk. Breakfast is superb given its one of few hotels in the area that includes breakfast as standard. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in St Malo.

Central hotel easy access to local areas

Stayed in St marlo for a short break over new year
Hotel small and basic but comfortable, very clean and pleasant.
The hotel in right in the centre of the historical town, and Ideally located for local buses, train station and boat ferries. We managed easily to go to Rennes for the day and local costal towns.
It would be easy also to get the train to paris.

Ideal for short break in St Malo

I needed a convenient hotel for a quick exploration of the walled town during my short visit to take part in the Cancale-St Malo Half Marathon. This hotel was perfect for me as a tourist on foot and only a few hundred yards from the location of the race finish (and coach transfers to the race start).

Staff were friendly and helpful and fluent in English (useful because my French is limited).

Very clean and comfortable room and what I saw of the rest of the hotel was also very clean.

No bath in my room (fine by me), just a proper shower cubicle with a good controllable shower instead.

Check in / check out was quick and simple.

Great location just inside the town wall. Quite a long walk from the train station, and about 15 minutes walk to the ferry terminal. The entrance to the hotel rooms is just around the corner, further down the side of the building from the reception desk and breakfast room, and a pin code is needed to pull open the door to this part of the building. In the breakfast room there's a machine to squeeze your own orange juice, or there is juice already available plus bread, cheese, pastries, cereals, yogurt. It's a short walk to the lovely beach area, and overall the town is stunning with plenty of restaurants, interesting shops and a small Carrefour supermarket open late.

Great location during the day but very noisy at night. Bathroom extremely cramped (having to sit sideways on toilet). No air conditioning which means uncomfortable temperature at night if the window is closed -as it had to be to exclude noise. Very small lift, only for two persons without luggage.

Close to ferry terminal about 20 minutes walk from train station. Excellent location within the walled city. Close to bars and restaurants, and the casino. Has a bar and breakfast service (buffet style in foyer/bar area). Also has small seating area outside the front. Room was good size, comfy bed. Not a bad sized bathroom, with okay sized shower. Provides towels and body/hand/hair soap. Free wifi. No coffi/tea service, but bar is open til late. Breakfast starts at 6. Very helpful staff. Couldn't see a lift though, as we were told to use stairs.

This is my second stay here and is till think its a wonderful hotel. Its room rate (given what others charge in the city) is very good and for what you get it is excellent. The rooms are small but fine in terms of comfort and facilities. The hotel is very well located in the walls of the old city which is wonderful and is no more than a few minutes walk from anything in the old city. Both times we have stayed here we have come from the ferry port which is no more than an easy 5 minute walk. The staff are very welcoming and there are some nice touches including free tea and coffee in the reception area. The free breakfast is brilliant - a typically french offering and all very tasty. A great hotel i would highly recommend and will certainly be staying in again.

Great value

Friendly staff and a very good location within the walls but in a quiet part of town. We had a family room with a double bed and sofa bed, which was decent quality and comfortable. The room isn't huge but we have been in smaller (and for a higher price). The decor is modern and the room was clean. Great value for a short stay, especially if you need to walk to the ferry terminal.

This small hotel was perfect for our short stay in St. Malo, the staff were polite, friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was clean and well presented and there was a good choice for breakfast. The hotel is convenient for a number of restaurants with easy access to the city walls. We had our son with us ( year 7 ) who was made very welcome and encouraged and helped to try his French language. A really lovely hotel.

This hotel is only suitable for young people,

The reason I say that this hotel is only suitable for young people, is the fact that as a old building there is no lift,and the stairs are very very steep, with only a handrail near the end of each set of stairs, if you have a family there are a couple of family rooms on the ground floor overall the hotel was pleasant , but another problem there is NO parking near the hotel as the city is always full, so you have to park outside the walls.

No lift!

The good point about the hotel is its location, in the lovely old city and close to the ferry terminal. However, there's no lift in the main hotel and we had to schlep our bags up three flights. The room was tiny. There wasn't even space to sit on the loo properly. The walls were thin so you could hear conversations in adjacent rooms. Parking amounts to hunting a space in the street then buying a pass from the hotel. It's not particularly cheap to compensate either.

Good value in St Malo

We stayed for two nights, one on the way to a driving trip in Brittany, and one on the way back. The location is superb, within the town walls, but not too busy outside. The room on our first night had a peculiar situation, being the only one on the ground floor. It was reached by going through the breakfast room so wasn't ideal. You could also hear a few passersby at night, so try to avoid this room. The second night was on the first floor. The room had a window looking into the town with a small terrace to sit on. This was much better. We couldn't really fault our stay in this budget hotel. Staff were friendly and spoke English. Rooms were spotless, and breakfast adequate. Parking was only a few metres away outside the walls, and not too expensive.

Spacious room with good facilities and an ample breakfast. Had to park miles away as parking is at a premium in St Malo intra-muros area. There was no air con in the room, which made it a little uncomfortable, as being on the ground floor, directly beside a pavement and road, we weren't able to open windows at night. This apart, we were very satisfied with the hotel - best IBIS we've been to.

Spent 5 days here and had a great time. Very nice and friendly staff. Lovely (continental) breakfast, and plenty of it. The room was small but spotlessly clean and serviced every day with clean towels. Would go back in a flash and have no hesitation in recommending it !! Excellent value for money and easy to find. Turn left at the ferry, walk straight ahead until you reach the second \"porte' (arched 'door' in the walls of the city) turn left and it is in front of you.

our second stay in same hotel. generally very pleased with it although this time we were given a street level room which had no air con and the window couldn't be safely left open at night so the nights were hot and stuffy which was disappointing. The ground floor rooms need aircon or windows that can be safely locked partially open. Our previous room on an upper floor had three windows and was very comfortable.

The hotel is in the old town, a fantastic location but it means that room sizes are quite small. The initial room we had really was tiny, but on speaking to the manageress we were changed the next day when a room became available. A lovely bright room with amazing views. They also arranged for us to park our motorbikes right outside the front door! It is seconds walk away from the old town walls, restaurants, bars, shops. It was a great find and we will most certainly go back and stay there again.

My room was situation in the annex of the hotel. The lift is very small, could only accommodate 1 person with a suit case and that was a very tight squeeze. Staff very friendly, breakfast was good. Would use the hotel again for transit but not a long stay.

Good Points

- Location is excellent - in the walled city so 2 minutes to everything. 5 minutes easy walk (and easy to find) from the Ferry Port.
- Room was clean and comfortable.
- Breakfast was very good. Warm croissants, fruit, bread, jams, youghurts, cheese, ham and lots of tea/coffee and juice options. Very good for a basic type breakfast.
- Wifi is free which is rare in hotels these days! It was also a good strong signal which again is also rare!

Bad Points

- Check in wasn't great. We arrived very ealry in the morning so lef tour bags with reception who told us to come back at 12pm which we did to then be told to come back at 1pm which we did and again were asked to come back at 2pm. Not great and left a bad first impression.
- Room is located close to bars and a nightclub. As we were on the lower floor then we could hear it quite loudly which may affect sleeping
- No tea/coffee facility which is something you would expect for the price they are charging!
- You have to pay a city tax which whilst not being much, wasn't explained either in booking or on check in so is something they really should explain so its not a suprise.

Also to note is that the rooms and the receptions are entered via different doors so you have to go outside and walk along the street to get to the other. Not a poblem unless you maybe have an issue during the night or like having breakfast in your pyjamas!

nice hotel. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Only thing I think would be better would be curtains in the bathroom as frosted glass and lights on don't give a sense of privacy after dark in a room facing the street. Otherwise we loved it.

don't expect a gourmet breakfast it' s a very continental style help yourself job but i thought perfectly ok.The guys in the hotel all speak good english . i had heard it can be hard getting transport up to the airport at dinard but the hotel booked a taxi for me , so no problem there. the hotel is right in the old district , so it's as good as anywhere . Teh railway station is about 20 min walk and very easy to get out to Dinan , Rennes etc so it's worth exploring further afield.

Great hotel in St Malo for business and pleasure!

Very good. Perfect position for visiting the walled city of St Malo. Close to ferry terminal. Walking distance to all parts of old city. Was pleasantly surprised at great size of rooms, we had a sitting area as well as bedroom.

Very happy, good value, a tight squeeze in places!

Great - we stayed for 5 nights, enjoying the view of the town from the window, an efficiently tidied room each day, sufficient breakfast and great location right next to the restaurants, town and bus stop (couldn't be better). Lift a little tight but can't be helped and mattress quite hard! Staff helpful and friendly. Only English language on TV was CNN - great at first, a little repetative later on in the week! We would use the hotel again.

The husband and wife owners were extremely rude and unhelpful. Not even so much as a smile on arrival. Also there is no luggage store. The statement that there is parking available is misleading. The hotel does not have any parking and you have to use public parking outside the town walls which is hard to get and very inconvenient. I would not recommend this hotel and feel it gives the Ibis group a bad name.

Awesome!

I loved the hotel, the room, and St. Malo. A great visit and great service. When I missed my very early in the morning they were so nice to store my suitcase for the day so i could go sightseeing and not waste the day. I'd definitely stay again. The front desk was great and could speak English and French. It gets my recommendation for sure.

Nice base to explore the old town

Probably the second most comfortable hotel on our European tour. The lift was a tad small when we brought our cases in, but we managed! Very clean, comfortable and neat, with good and helpful service.

Great location in St Malo!!

Perfect location , able to tour all of medieval St Malo right from our hotel.Breakfast very good value, coffee machine very nice with all the choices. Wonderful reception staff, very helpful and welcoming.

Would we reccomend it? Yes we would!

Most importantly the hotel was easy to find. We walked from the train station directly to the hotel in about 20 mins. We had no problem booking in, the pleasant staff spoke English, but recognised our attempts to speak in French. The room was a short walk (1 min) from the reception and breakfast area. It was very clean, light and pleasant with enough hanging and shelf space for us. Shower/shampoo and hand wash was provided. Shower room very clean. Shower cubicle a bit cramped but ok.
Breakfast included was a good bonus. Breakfast buffet had a good choice of items with an eat as much as you like policy. Tea, coffee and water were available in the pleasant reception area all day, a really nice touch.
We felt able to come and go as we pleased and re-visited our room 2 or 3 times during the day.
An excellent budget hotel that we would heartily reccomend and will re-use ourselves.
