Best hotel and superb location in Florence. From Florence airport we caught the tram to Florence and got off at the main train station. From there is was a 15 minute walk to the Hotel Torre Guelfa. It is easy to find as it is one street away from the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge. This hotel is beautiful inside and the staff were very friendly. The location is close to all the main attractions and perfect for your stay in the city. In addition to this they have their own tower with excellent views of the sunset, Duomo, and city. During good weather they run a bar on the roof. This tower is accessible from the 3rd floor via a door in breakfast room and up some wooden stairs. Arrive early for the sunsets as it gets busy, once the bar closed (in February at 8pm) we could still enjoy sitting up there and taking in the city view at night. Our room 305 (classic room) was lovely and a good size, with hair dryer, shower/bath, coffee & tea facilities, fridge, free water, and window shutters that gave us a good sleep any time. The breakfast was amazing with a fabulous hot and cold selection, arrive early and you will wonder how all this food will be eaten, arrive late and you will see that it is. Some of it is replenished and the breakfast lady made us fresh coffee. Florence is a city of walking, so when considering a hotel the Hotel Torre Guelfa is in prime position. We loved Florence and 5 days ensured we saw everything, I'd imagine it is worth booking the lavish rooms here if you can.

They tell you when you head to Italy, bring your walking shoes and be ready to climb a lot of stairs. Well, staying at the Torre Guelfa we were in for a treat as the hotel has its own private bell tower that once you make your way up the top gives the best panoramic view of Florence.

The charming hotel was comfortable and offered a wonderful buffet breakfast. Be sure to verify what the view is for your room because it is a historic building - but that might add to the charm of your visit.

It is in walking distance to many of the major attractions while on a quieter street.

We visited over the winter holidays and our trip was all the more wonderful because we stayed here in Florence.

Loved the location, the rooftop views and the breakfast. 10/10 for those for sure. The breakfast attendant was so amazing- she remembered what we ordered and was a very bright light each morning.
Our room, 309, was a bit dark and had no mirror. There was a mirror in the bathroom of course. Ironically there were so many mirrors everywhere but none in our room.
We were able to even walk to the train station which was very easy and doable. Beautiful location. Would recommend.

This hotel was beautiful, hands down one of our favourites of the trip! The highlight if this hotel has to be the bell tower! With a terrace and bell tower serving drinks in the evening with panoramic views of Florence you can’t go wrong! The staff were polite and welcoming ensuring we had directions for our time in Florence. The hotel had period features which added to its character. The room we stayed in had high ceilings and four post bed and had a separate room with a sofa lounge area and a bathroom. The room was spotless and quiet in the evenings. Breakfast was lovely the pastry options were different everyday and were fresh. They also had a continental option. We will definitely be returning.

Perfect location steps from Ponte Vecchio so very easy to walk to all the sights (uber/taxis take longer to go places in Florence). It’s an old palazzo that has been converted so lots of stone steps and very quirky dining hall for breakfast and viewing tower. Our room had everything you need and great aircon. Very pleasant staff everywhere.

The Torre Guelph has an interesting building and a very good location. Breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed the hot food and cappuccinos. Unfortunately it's very noisy in that neighbourhood and the windows don't have screens in them to keep out mosquitos. A welcoming front desk would have added a human element to our stay. We had very little contact with any staff other than at breakfast.

Staff were lovely, roof terrace was amazing and the rooms have stunning high ceilings and tiled floors. Its right by the Ponte Vecchio on a quiet street. Such a charming hotel, would definitely stay again.
Just to flag that if you're going for the room with the private terrace, note that there are narrow stairs inside the door leadjng up to the bedroom so you will need to get your luggage up stairs.

To start , excellent position of hotel. Family run , good communication. I was recommended by a friend. I think they must have had a lovely room. We were in 102. On arrival the heater was on, it had been a hot day and I couldn’t breathe. Tried to open a window but they were sealed shut, you couldn’t see through them due to shutters which were also screwed down. At 11pm we had the bedroom door open for an hour to try to get some air through. Had good nights sleep. The hotel looks nothing like the photos. It’s tired. Breakfast was fine, be careful of the passive aggressive waitress. If she doesn’t think you need something, everyone knows about it. The hotel isn’t 4 star. 3 star at best. I wouldn’t stay again in case I was put into room 102! I would have loved one of the rooms advertised. I could have asked for a swap but my husband is very passive and hates any sort of complaint. Read the trip advisor reviews. Dig deep. If you don’t care about where you lay your head , this is a fantastic hotel for position.

Perfect Stay in Florence

We absolutely loved every moment of our stay at Hotel Torre Guelfa. We arrived after midnight and the night manager was welcoming and very helpful.

Our room was perfect: we had booked via Hotels.com and picked 2 single beds and after a misunderstanding by Hotels.com the hotel made sure that this is what we had.
The room was quirky but it had everything we needed and was very comfy and warm which was much appreciated as it is November and very cold outside.

For all those expecting a hotel where every room is identical and modern please book somewhere else! This hotel has lots of history and is a perfect reflection of Florence.

The views from the tower are outstanding, as good as the Duomo and completely free for guests.

The breakfast was delicious and the staff are friendly and very attentive, especially Vivianne.

I couldn't fault or suggest any improvements, our experience here was nothing short of heaven!

Myself and my wife stayed 3 nights end of October. Hotel staff are really excellent. Room and general hotel area very clean. Our room was 1st floor overlooking the small cobble street. Clean but very dark and smell of damp in the room. The hotel is really old and natural....so if you want a bright modern hotel this is not for you. Roof tower is very nice....view is excelleenr. Location is amazing just 2 mins walk from Ponte Vechio bridge. I would stay again but would recomend a room higher up and brighter.

What a property, what a hotel. We fell in love, beautiful, historic castle, with a tower bar offering outstanding views of Florence and providing unforgettable sunsets. The lighting is horrible, we need a flashlight to chart our map of the city. The refrigerator does not work at all and the receptionist wanted me to bring my self purchased food and beverages to a locked room with a small refrigerator on the main floor rather than switching the working one with the malfunctioning one in our room. The bathroom door is absolutely filthy with dirt all over it. The toilet doesn't flush until you've used all your strength on the third push of the flushing mechanism. The shower walls are covered in tiny hairs. The wifi barely works.

We were in room 204. This is important because that room should not be rented to anyone until they fix the electrical system and air conditioner. The hotel needs MUCH better management. When we reported the day that we checked in that he outlets were not working( that means no ability to charge one’s phone or watch, no bedside table lights) and no air conditioning with the temperature in August in the mid 90 degree range, the staff was non responsive. We were stuck. The next morning we spoke to the front desk person who said someone would come to fix it. We were out for a full day sightseeing. Upon return, some outlets working but an A/C still not working. The man at the desk had no idea that there was a problem and did not care. I reported to expedia, and finally the man at the front desk took a break from the video game he was playing to read a message on the computer to give us another room. So, we changed our room at 10 pm after hours of arguing for our second and final night. That room was fine. The hotel is in a great location, has a lovely breakfast and would be good if properly managed. That the staff was so unresponsive and uncaring was shocking. And no, they did not credit us back any money for the awful first night. We also wasted many hours trying to remedy the awful situation- time lost on our vacation. So, bottom line, if you have a room in good condition, it would be great. Looking back at other reviews, others have had the same problem.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2024. Firstly, the rooms were spacious, extremely clean and had a beautiful traditional vibe which is perfectly fitting for a city with rich history like Florence. The air conditioning was great along with the delicious breakfast (courtesy of Vivian!). A stones throw from every major attraction and literally 1 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. The front desk staff were amazing and helped us for stuff such as booking taxis, calling restaurants for reservations and recommendations for authentic places to eat! Cannot recommend this place enough (just wait till you see the view from the tower you will be speechless…)

Room Needs a Refresh

Let's start with the pros and cons:

Pro:
Location, close to everything we wanted to see and do but away from the hustle, bustle, and noice of the city.
Staff, everyone we interacted with was very helpful, professional, and went out of their way to ensure we had what we needed. Special call out to Vivian in the
Breakfast Room; she is truly proud of the experience she has creates, it is outstanding, and was the highlight of our stay.
It is Clean.
The Tower Room; great to visit a different times of the day; Early Morning, Sunset, and night to see the city in different light. Great photo op and a relaxing space.

Con:
Our \"Superior\" room did not live up to it's name.
Pealing Paint in the bathroom.
Worn Linen, thread bare and even some holes.
Weak Wi-fi - Yes I understand this is a stone building and signal can be spotty, strength was always strong but it went out at the same time each night we were there.
Mattress was lumpy and the creaky, time to replace.

So given the good and the bad this is a Solid 3 star hotel that wants to be a 4 and could with some effort.

I wouldn't rule out a stay here again, given the pro list. However, the con list should be noted.

We stayed in the apartment and there were no clean services. I don’t remember seeing that option when I made the reservations and even if it was, that’s too relevant to be but in (very) small letters. The streets nearby were too dirty with lots of garbage.
Internet is awful, terrible. Simply a service that does not work.
The apartment doesn’t have noise cancellation and you can hear everything on the streets (and believe me, there is noise to be heard) specially after 5AM - and you definitively does not want to wake up at 5AM on a vacation trip.
Breakfest is very good as well as the service from the people that were serving both in the cafeteria and in the front desk.
Putting all together - the experience didn’t worth the spent money. I would choose another hotel.

We had a lovely stay at this charming hotel in Florence. The location is perfect, walking distance to all major sights and a block away from the river. The roof deck cannot be beat! We ended each day with a drink on the private terrace with the most amazing views of the city. There was an elevator to the 3 rd floor but then our room was down a large set of stairs with no elevator options. So if you have a lot of luggage o would be aware of that. Lovely hotel in a great location. Easily walkable to main sights and train. Good room size and comfortable beds. Could use a shelf or 2 to unpack clothes. Hotel itself is lovely with sitting areas on every floor. Great breakfast selection. Loved the rooftop bar. Some occasional street noise if we left the window open at night. Staff was very helpful and gave us some great restaurant suggestions. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Thank you Torre Guelfa!

Being an old building, it was well appointed, the , room and bathroom were big. Breakfast was in a lovely room and it was very generous and really good. The hotel has a tower with a fantastic view of the city.
My only complain, however, the bed was hard and the pillows were extremely uncomfortable and hard. Definitely a deterrent to come back in spite of all the other positives.

Charming building with a rooftop terrace offering stunning views of the city. It is perfectly located to walk to the many great sites. And, very good breakfast served in a beautiful room.

Perfect location

I like the charm of the hotel , but it wasn’t a very cozy place to stay. The hall ways and breakfast room was cold .The mattress was hard. The breakfast was good , but not great. The concierge could not help us with tourists sites and tickets. He referred me to a street vendor who was difficult to find. However, the location was perfect for the center.

This hotel was an amazing place!!! We found out that this hotel was a palace of a noble family in Florence. it was in a great location and was very walkable to the all the main points of interests in Florence. The person in charge of breakfast, Vivienne was so so so sweet. we were visiting from California during December. The hotel had an amazing breakfast service which featured all types of breads, jams, sweets, and savory snacks. Everyday when we walked in we were greeted in buy Vivienne, she always had a smile on her face and was happy. The tower of the hotel also had spectacular views of the beautiful cathedral and the city plaza. Loved everything about it!!!

This was such a lovely hotel in a great location. Very clean and enjoyed breakfast. Take earplugs though as street noise could disturb you in the early morning.
