I suggested on our last nite that breakfast plates should be pre-heated especially that mornings are pretty chilly. On the morning we left, I got a nice surprise with an omelette, fried beans and sautéed zucchini with corn on a hot plate! Just the best!

Why you should stay here.

You appreciate interior design and architecture. You would like to be in the Centro historico district. Azul historico restaurant is downstairs. You would like a romantic stay. You like a perfect Mexican breakfast on a beautiful terrace. You like a property where the staff treat you well. You need a chance to relax at a rooftop pool with bar service.

Why you shouldn’t stay here . You value peace and quiet. It’s in the epicenter of activity. Even though it’s an oasis, the speakers blare music from the street all day. If I were the owners of this hotel, I would pay the store on the street to turn it down. I was laughing to myself how this beautiful and charming property is a victim to a small business in the street that thinks loud music lures customers. But, It was quiet at night, so no big deal to me.

Would stay here again! The people that work there are great!

Downtown Hotel Mexico, was fantastic. Great location in the hub of the city, a short walk to the main square & cathedral. The hotel is in a historic building, which has a lively vibe with 2 restaurants in its coutyard. For more of a relaxing atmosphere, head to the rooftop bar & pool, which have great views of the rooftops. Staff were extremely friendly & helpful, with the hotel in great condition, clean, given the age of the historic building. If you are after a quiet retreat, it may not be your cup of tea, but we loved it!!

The hotel is very nice and well located, and the breakfasts are tasty. The rooms are a little on the dark side…an extra light would be handy.
Most annoyingly, we booked the hotel for its pool, only to be unable to use it one night as the hotel had leased the area to a DJ, and it was not available to use for guests. Poor form. Then for the other nights, they undertook their annual maintenance, so it was also off limits. Why they chose to do this during summer is a mystery.

This place was so beautiful—a real gem in the heart of the historic area of M. City. Our suite was so sexy—very much exceeded our expectations.
My only criticism was the AC was loud (fan needs to be calibrated—sounded like it was rubbing something) and it didn’t seem to do much cooling. But, we kept the windows open to the outside and luckily it wasn’t too hot.

The property is located close to a few historical sights and looks very nice. The breakfast was also great. Sadly, there were a few issues - the swimming pool area was closed one of the days, the sink in my room didn't drain properly, there was noisy construction on site one night that went on past midnight and the AC didn't work well.

Nice location. Very chic. Excellent breakfast in a beautiful old palacio, with friendly staff.

The room was very chic, but it was very dimly lit. This is very challenging for a traveler--making it harder to find things in a room. It was even dimly lit in the bathroom--not friendly for a woman. This trend also extended to the check-in desk and even the restaurant within the building (which was beautiful, but unaffiliated with the hotel).

Good location. Modern, well appointed rooms with high ceilings but no window except the door - it is like sleeping in a tomb. Nice rooftop bar and pool, but pool not exclusive to hotel patrons and on the weekend, it was full of young people standing in pool and drinking (with glassware). Open public access to hotel floor - someone banged on our door late at night, Nice restaurant with beautiful candles in trees in courtyard entrance.

I opted to pay at the hotel but got charged a hold and then got charged again at the hotel...so the double amount went on my credit card...unacceptable...and very inconvenient.

Also, the roof was closed all of Saturday for a private party but only informed of this after booking...and party went until 12:30am...not fun when your room is right under the roof.

Everything was ok, small boutique hotel, clean and good location. I cant give 5 stars because the AC in my room didn't work. They put a really noisy fan instead, that it was so loud I couldn't sleep well. My windowless room was really warm and I couldn't open the door for safety reasons. I had to drink quite a lot of overpriced water from the minibar and they still charged me.

It’s such a gorgeous space and the rooms are amazing if you’re into design but they really need to update their AC and ventilation system. It was constantly hot and humid and muggy in the room as the AC wasn’t strong enough to cool the whole room and the fan they gave us was obnoxiously loud. We had to sleep with the front door open most nights which is t great when you room opens out to a communal space.

It is a gorgeous hotel and a great location if you want to be in the heart of the Historic District. The property, rooms and restuarent are all stunning. I had a small issue with the AC in my room and the hotel responded promptly. I travel allot and understand that sometimes things go wrong or break. Its the way the hotel responds that matters to me. I would 100% stay here again and highly recommend it

The Downtown Hotel in Mexico City is a beautiful design hotel located in the heart of Centro. Wonderful hotel surrounded by retail, restaurants and bars with fabulous garden courts as part of the design. Service was excellent. Only downside was the pool was closed for an event for 2 nights but we were able to access the sister hotel rooftop pool Circulo Hotel. Also CDMX had a few very hot days and the a/c unit couldn't keep up. That aside a wonderful hotel!

What a gem of a hotel. It really did take me by surprise. Extremely characterful, classy and stylish. Honestly such a lovely boutique hotel - and so affordable for what you get. Breakfast of a morning was really impressive and well worth it (don't just expect the standard buffet style - you get devilled eggs, local pastires, fresh fruit etc). Check-in was enjoyable and I was able to get my VIP room upgrade. The pool area on the rooftop was excellent. Only slight downside is the area felt a bit crazy (compared to some other neighbourhoods) but I guess that's Mexico City for you. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

I felt the per night charge was reasonable for being in historic city zone. Appreciated the historic background of the facility. Convenience to historic zone was primary. Minimalist furnishings, but sufficient. staff friendly, helpful… but PAULA at lobby desk was the best, partly i think bec she is fluent in English … I think a little miscommunication with her colleagues not as proficient in English. Restaurant azul is fabulous. The tabernera can make it a little noisy on nights w company parties tho. Would book this property again in CDMX.

The hotel is located in a beautiful ancient house in the centre of historic Mexico city. The courtyard with its restaurant is the real gem of the property. Staff was attentive and helpful. Our room was very spacious with a balcony over the street and a super comfy bed with the softest bed sheets. It was truly a luxurious stay!

I travel to Mexico often and this cdmx visit was my 4th time there but first time at Downtown hotel.

Great cheaper spot if you want to stay in the center. Rooftop pool was fabulous as was the rooms. Everything clean and well kept.

Free breakfast was fantastic! Special thanks to Luis my daily breakfast server…kind, professional, and helpful person!

We loved our room - we were upgraded to a suite. Loved the location - a 2 minute walk to Zocala. The staff was very helpful.
My only complaint was before we arrived. I emailed several requests and they were slow in responding. They did what asked but didn’t report back which was annoying. While we were there, the were very accommodating.

I was so excited to stay at this hotel and it really is a beautiful building. The rains I wouldn’t stay again was the ac wasn’t working, even after we asked for maintenance to take a look, it is very dark - very limited options for increasing light in room and very limited outlets ( none in bathroom - I had to blow dry hair by bed). And we were very frustrated with the checkout process - the gentleman told us we had to pay for our stay and we showed a receipt of being paid already and then he presented us with a bill for tops for the free breakfast included with stay. We told him that we gave our server a tip in cash each morning and he reluctantly took it off our bill. Also the beds are very hard. The location is great and the shower was wonderful but not enough pros for us to stay there again.

I had to spend much time reflecting on this. The most salient complaint was the lack of room lighting. When traveling, people live out of suitcases and the access to light is essential. I realize the room portray a minimalist approach, but practicality and need should exceed the \"artistic elements\".
The bed was fantastic. I meant to inquire but we could hit that thing and be \"out\". Memory foam?
The room size was more than camodious, it was disgusting! Nothing like being able to install a bowling alley and still have room to walk.
The inner rooms, 1 - 3 did not have windows facing the street but the interior. If you wish a view of the street, room 4, 5, 6 and 7 all have views and large windows.The architecture is unique with the room plans. They are indeed most honest in the rooms.
The breakfast was always good with a variety of wonderful jams and honey as well as pastraimi, cheese and omelettes.
The room staff were delightful. No a word of English but delightful, helpful and most accomodating. They also do laundry.
One thing you must realize is that colonial element is somewhat evident. Staff does not like to get into the elevator with visitors, they feel it is important and respectful not to do so. I had to grab one fellow by his armand say \"Te estoy invitando. Sube conmigo\". \"I am inviting you, ride up with me\".

Now, for a few hints. DO go to Teotihucan, it is so majestic. Most are charing $40. Not bad for 6 hours. I hope to write more

We had a good 5 day stay at the hotel. Very friendly staff and the hotel is at a great location to the historic center. The hotel is quaint and a beautiful mix of really old and modern. However, the lighting was a real problem. The room was very dark and the stairs so dark, that we had to use flashlights to walk on them. The high ceilings were screaming for a large chandelier.

The only black spot was that the AC in the room wasn't cooling off, only way to get fresh air was basically opening the door (windows were in the doors) AC was really noise same as fan.

Our stay at the Downtown Mexico City hotel was overall really fantastic! The hotel is beautiful, historic, and within the building there are multiple good restaurants and bars. It is within walking distance of a lot of things in downtown Mexico City which made it very convenient. The hotel was clean and felt very safe. The only weird thing was that when we tried to go to the pool area twice, we were told by staff we couldn't go there but we weren't really given a reason. For that reason, we didn't use the pool or hot tub at any point throughout the stay. It would have been helpful if on check-in we were told what the policies for using the pool are. Finally, the included breakfast was really great!

The property is unique in the sense that it has historic charm. This property is mostly a restaurant so the hustle bustle and noise of the restaurant starts 6am and goes on until midnight. I was not bothered much by it as we were out most of the time.

The history and architecture of the building is exceptional.
The atmosphere in the centre court yard, wonderful. Hotel staff are one of the best we have experienced.
The cons of the hotel, very very poor lighting in public areas.
Rooms are sparse but the bed is very comfortable.
Sadly for anyone staying at this hotel, there is a facility across the street that can hold hundreds of people for a party.
There was one on our night and the music went till 3am.
It was as if you were at a concert. Except, we were in bed. No sleep!!!

The staff here is top notch. The room was well appointed, but not really comfortable in that there were not really windows to open. It's a bit claustrophobic because the \"windows\" open into a very public courtyard. However, once you close them off at night it is very quiet. Also, the bathroom only works for couples who are very comfortable with just curtains separating the space. It was fine for one night as the location is very convenient to everything around the Zocalo. The breakfast was quite nice and Azul Historico downstairs is a wonderful restaurant.

The hotel is in a great location and has a lot to see within walking distance. The 2 restaurants are fantasy. We did a girls trip so we rented 5 rooms. The rooms were very clean and looked cool. The only thing ones 2 of the rooms had no windows (the door had a window) but no exterior window. Those rooms were very dark. The 2 rooms on the street had a lot of noise. The final room had windows and was pretty quiet. I would stay there again but navigate the room situation. The breakfast was amazing and the staff was lovely. Both restaurants were fantastic and so reasonably priced.

The Downtown is an incredible hotel - truly an experience. The staff really look after you (Paula went above and beyond to look after me). If you love desig, architecture and history, you will adore the eye candy that is Downtown Mexico - I couldn’t stop staring at the incredible architecture and interior design.

The restaurants and shops are also top notch and the roof top bar and pool are and perfect escape.

This is an excellent hotel in every way!

Downtown Hotel is architecturally bèautifùĺ with 1700's culture and heritage in every part of the building and with all modern comfort. Staff all spoke English and were immediatly responsive to any need. You stepped out of the hotel into the life of people and the festival of life that is Mexico.

We stumbled upon this property a couple of years ago, we had a number of hours to kill in cdmx and visited the restaurant downstairs. We returned to stay in the hotel at the recommendation of friends. The property is quite breathtakingly beautiful with exquisite design features. The rooms are spacious and decadent with open plan elements and clean finishes. Rooms are sparsely decorated and dim lighting is quite beautiful….until you need to find anything in your luggage or get ready in front of the bathroom mirror _ which is impossible in such dark surroundings! Which leads me to the only other negatives - The room lacked tea or coffee making facilities and if you need ice in your room, you’ll need to call reception. Good luck in trying to call reception as there is no direction on what to dial on the phone, luckily it didn’t take much time to figure that one out. There’s no room service menu in the room either. Only one comfortable chair in the room, and the noise… there are the most amazing acoustic blocking doors installed to block out the street noise and the music from the rooftop bar, but the noise of the a/c in the room is really loud - even on low.
The rooftop pool is beautiful and the facilities up there are lovely but the pool is freezing cold and totally unusable!
Nevertheless, I’ll give this hotel a 4.5 out of 5

Impressive old building. Helpful staff. But the rooms are dark, impractical and depressing. The air conditioning does not work well. The only windows open into the common passage so there is no privacy. Lighting in the rooms is too little. The toilets are made later into the room with no doors. Only a curtain. They did however permit a switch to their sister hotel after a day which was much nicer. Overall very disappointing.

This property did not feel secure from the hustle and bustle of the outside streets. There was a general entrance that the public used to go to the shopping inside the common quart yard. The rooms are INCREDIBLY DARK. Like…. Invest in more lighting- yes the lighting is a vibe, but it makes staying in your room depressing and scary. There are no rugs, or things to warm up your room, so it echos and just has a sterile vibe. Breakfast… was meh. Coffee is verrrry non bueno. Not worth the price, I would not stay downtown again. You are Better off in Roma, Polanco, or Condesa.

A truly special and unique property! An amazing location, an amazing room, and such a beautiful building. The staff was extremely friendly, we loved getting drinks and Happy Hour on the roof, and the included breakfast on the terrace was simply divine.

All the staff was accommodating and friendly; we loved Jesus the concierge!!

Our flight got in CDMX very early, and we were able to drop off our luggage around 9am and even got an early check in at noon!

Would absolutely and gladly stay here again.

Fantastic location in downtown Mexico City. Restaurant downstairs, private mezzanine on the hotel floor and a great bar with food on the rooftop. Service is fantastic, great room service and PHENOMENAL soundproofing.

It’s a heritage boutique hotel in the middle of the old town we’re some of the historical buildings and churches are walking distance plus shopping shops I will list now the positive and negatives things
Negative things
1-AC in the room is awful, I have changed my room and still the other room AC was worser. I had to open the windows to get some cold breezes
2-the room is dark, light are dim, you barely can see anything. As per the hotel it’s there theme
3-breakfast was included with the room however just few items are within the free dishes.

Positive things:
1-rooms are super clean
2-very nice rooms with good sizes
3-Breakfast & dine area were good
4-they have a Mexican cuisine serving fine dinning local authentic Mexican food. One of the best in Mexico City
5-nice designed hotel
6-Good location

This hotel was cool, eclectic and quaint. We loved the proximity to the arts district and its level of safety The food was good with great flavor and arrived in a timely fashion. The price of the hotel was very reasonable. There were times we walked into the room and it smelled like sewage. Luckily they provide candles in the room which helped with the dank smell as well.

Overall I give the hotel a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars (5 being the best). We will definitely stay again.

Spectacular!!! Blown away by this beautiful hotel. The rooms were just beyond as was the breakfast, the rooftop pool. One of my favorites ever for sure!

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Cool old building.

Service of front desk staff was poor. Organized a covid test for travel then person to perform the test never showed at the agreed upon time. They didn't help solve the issue, booked own covid test at a lab down the road.

Also didn't clean the room. No TP, towels, etc.

The service was excellent! We needed a Covid test to return to the US within 3 days of our return, and they scheduled someone to come to our room to make it happen. It was super sanitary, safe, fast, and dependable! The pool/bar area is so so lovely! The staff is wonderful and accommodating. Loved it!

Great location, very cool building and design.
The restaurants are top notch especially the Nana Sushi. Rooms are very modern in style. If you prefer traditional American hotel rooms this may not be for you. Lightning throughout the hotel and rooms is extremely dim. Bathrooms have curtains and are not walled off. Be sure to request a room with exterior windows-some rooms are interior with no windows and very stuffy. Staff was super nice.

This hotel is beautifully designed, the staff is very helpful and friendly. The lighting in the room was not very adequate though, it was dim. Our room was facing a very busy street, so it was impossible to keep the windows open. Closing the windows would block the noise, but air conditioner was very loud (that's why ear plugs were provided, I guess). As a plus there is very good restaurant downstair, hotel restaurant is good as well.

Absolutely amazing historic building in the perfect geographic section of the city for exploring. If you are into architecture and aesthetics, this is the place for you. Perfect boutique hotel. Rooms were stunning. Rooftop bar is not just great for the vibe, but also the food and drinks.

Keep in mind it is an older building, so lighting in some of the larger suites is slightly compromised. But that is a small price to pay for the overall experience. We will definitely stay here again when returning to Mexico City.
