It is a little outdated but overall its a cute Hawaiian feeling. Pool is nice and located next to the reef restaurant and bar. A plus is the pool closed at midnight. I would stay again.

Great pool. We were with a child. He delighted in the large hearted pool. Sitting by the pool was great too with gorgeous views. Rooms were clean and comfortable. This hotel was a great buy especially silly for this time of year in Palm Springs. The outside look is charming. Location is convenient and central. There's a great bar where we met friends as well. I highly recommend

Edna at check-in on Saturday was very rude. I let her know that I had read some poor reviews and wanted to check out the room and then if I wasn’t happy with it for them to switch us to a different room. I asked if she knew if there had been any maintenance done or improvements to the rooms in the last months or so. She explained we had the last room of our type, which is fine. But then she went on to say that I should ignore other people‘s opinions and make my own evaluation. Seriously when you go to yelp and 40% of your ratings are a 1 with a huge number of negative complaints from unsafe door locks to stains in comforter and drapes to bugs to rude staff, and that is her response. Her response should have been that they in fact, have replaced the locks throughout the property with swipe locks. They have replaced comforters and drapes. They have worked to improve cleanliness. She was a rude little 20 year-old. In terms of the room, those improvements have been made, which is great. The staff should tell people about it when they have questions. The Jacuzzi is great. The pool is very nice. It looks like they have replaced about 25% of the beach chairs, but the rest are still very old. In the gym, there are no dumbbells under 50 pounds. There is electrical tape wrapped around handles on chest press. There was a good variety of barbells. There was a water fountain and ice machine. The treadmill was cheap home one. Overall, it worked ok but I would never come back

The pool area was great. There is quite a bit of deferred maintenance when we entered the restroom the light fixture was out had to get maintenance to replace it. The shower fixture you had to pull really hard to get it to work and unfortunately someone forgot to turn the water off in the bathtub in the room above us and it leaked good part of the night Staff addressed these issues so that part was good.

The desk staff were friendly and helpful. The property has an older feel, but think Disney Tiki Room, and this is fine, compared to some of the spotless newer places that have no soul. We enjoyed our stay and our room seemed extra large.

There was nothing special here- and while we paid for a 'deluxe' king room there was nothing deluxe about it- very basic and a bit rough around the edges. There were a bunch of kids playing in the pool so we passed on that amenity, though it was nice that there was a bar/restaurant with a covered patio area adjacent to have some drinks and snacks poolside.

We had no hot water for 3 days, as our shower was broken and was never repaired after numerous calls to the Front Desk. Two different staff members of the hotel came to the room but neither were able to repair what seemed to require only the show on/off/heat/cold mechanism be replaced which should have been an easy fix. Take out the pin and replace with a new one. From experience should have taken a little over an hour. After 2 days of cold shower we asked for a vacant room to shower but never heard back from the front desk. A large motel complex so they should have had replacement parts on hand. Very disappointing stay and cannot recommend.

Really nice staff at the front desk..bar and restaurant. Rooms are basically one step up from a motel. Enjoyed location and tiki theme. Bar..pool and mexican restaurant on premises were great. Rooms however are run down and very outdated. Still had a good time though.

We have stayed here a few times and found it to be acceptable. This time was disappointing. I asked for an extra towel two days (3 times on the second day) in a row and never received any. The hair conditioner dispenser didn’t work. There’s an iron but no ironing board. There was no hair dryer.

The vibe was nice and chill - no one being loud by the pool, which could really be tough since there's not much soundproofing. The location is good, too - close to downtown, but the area is quiet.

Our room was good. Definitely lived in - some of the lamps were a little fussy, but nothing huge. For us, the main issue was the pillows were too big and hard - felt like my neck was at an angle. But to be fair, I like my pillows small.

The pool and the hot tub were the highlights for sure - not crowded, and the pool is big enough to do a decent lap. The hot tub has carve-outs for each sitting spot, which makes it less awkward to be in there with other people I think.

The shower in our room was completely nonfunctional. Additionally, they charged us twice for the room. The property needs serious updating.

Starting with a positive, we were able to get an early check in without a problem. The staff at the desk were all very nice. But I've never been so deceived by expedia hotel photos. The room photos are light, bright and colorful, clearly renovated and the flooring in the photos appeared to be laminate. The room I got had red carpet, popcorn ceilings and everything in sight was old. I will say it was clean though. The bed did not have a blanket nor was there one in the closet. The shower went in and out of hot/cold. There was no heater. Thankfully we were not in the room much. It was just a place to sleep while in the area.

The room was clean and adequate. The closet was just a coat rack but there was a double sink so plenty of room to wash up and get ready. Beds were clean and comfortable. There are not enough good things to say about The Reef. The tropical tiki drink menu is extensive and has a very inviting atmosphere. The bar staff is very friendly. I’m very picky of Mai tais and there’s was perfection. I also had chips and salsa (salsa was spicy but not overly so). The blue cheese burger was phenomenal and the accompanying fries were perfectly done. Will definitely make this a stop every time I go to Palm Springs. I would also stay at the hotel again as it is centrally located.

Rooms were clean and we appreciated the 60-70's island tropics vibe. Only issue was the hot water. Sometimes hot water in the shower would go away. Some friends in another room had to relocate because the handle wouldn't turn properly for hot water. Ours was also kinda wonky and old where it seemed like you were going to yank it out of the wall just to turn it on.

I love staying here - it is very old school Tiki Palm Springs! The rooms are comfortable and clean, although could use some updating. The restaurants and bars have great selections and the staff is helpful. Small but practical fitness center. It would be nice if the breakfast restaurant would open at 8 every day instead of just on weekends.

Dated, and only getting older. Shower handle was falling off and hard to operate. Beds were unstable and very very noisy. Only 2 towels in the room… pool towels are located where? The office was closed most of my stay. Furniture generally in horrible shape, stains and bad smells. Wasted space everywhere, room 103 is an example of a horrible layout. Could use a FULL overhaul of each room. The pool and hot tub are great, as are the grounds and character in general… but the rooms are becoming unusable and should not be rented.

Staff was wonderful! Pool, spa and outdoor area were very nice. The room looked and felt like it hadn’t been updated since 1970. The room description and pictures had the same layout but no updates. I reserved a double queen suite and the hotel staff said none of those rooms have been updated and the hotel was no responsible for images posted by third party booking sites. I would NEVER have paid what I did for the room. The tv didn’t work, bathroom fixtures falling off, grossly stained carpet. Mildew smell. Wish I could get a credit from Hotels.com if the are responsible since for the false advertising. There is also no “spa” on site as advertised.

The room was in terrible condition. The carpet was so grimy that I had to wear shoes inside to keep my feet from getting dirty. The sink barely functioned and the water temperature in the shower was impossible to control. My friend was in the room next door, and his room was recently renovated. It had the same issue with the water in the shower, but otherwise was fine. I asked the desk clerk if they were in the process of renovating the hotel and he told me that there were renovating one room at a time very slowly and he didn't know which rooms were renovated.

The worst part was the very disagreeable young woman in the office. When I tried to extend my stay, she was unhelpful and uncooperative. When I became impatient at 3:00 in the afternoon when she told me that there were no rooms ready, despite the fact that it was mid-week and there were only about 5 cars in the entire parking lot, she became extremely defensive and threatened to call the police if I didn't leave. I went next door to the Motel 6 where I got a cleaner, more functional room for less than half what they were asking at Caliente Tropics.

We have stayed at Caliente Tropics several times, and I was here this time with 4 other couples, so you would expect better customer service. I have dealt with others at the front desk who were very professional, but this young woman, who refused to tell me her first name, has no business in any job that requires customer service skills. None of us will be back.

Have stayed here many times and have to say the place is in need of some TLC. The rooms getting a bit worn out and could use some attention. A biker convention took over the property for the weekend… 😩. Noise level was unacceptable and it seemed no one wanted to address it. Really want to rate higher, but afraid this place is headed in the wrong direction.

The room was ok the tv didn’t work they transferred us to a suite that was not clean so they had to transfer us to another room. That was OK. We have stayed there several times and this time was just OK. We will probably choose a different hotel next time.
