Stayed one night for work. Decent room rate and a huge room. Staff are great. Food in the restaurant is reasonably priced and very tasty. Hotel is remote so nothing else in the vicinity

There were lots of staff who were all lovely and our dog was made very welcome.
The food in the restaurant was simple but excellent quality and very good portions.
Overall a very easy and pleasant stay with good value for money.
There are some spectacular dog walks along the beach only a mile or so away.
The only criticism could be that the heating was turned up very high

The room is to a decent standard. The bed is comfortable and there was a good choice of pillows. This is a really strong start as many hotels are let down in this area.

The bathroom was ok, nothing wrong and the shower water pressure was very good.

However, the room was way too warm making sleeping difficult. That’s a personal thing and would be fine in normal circumstances as the window could be opened to let fresh air in.

However, the rooms back on to where the bins are filled every evening by the staff, immediately waking you up if you managed to get to sleep.

And then, at 6.45am, every morning, a delivery arrives or the bin lorry turns up and wakes you up. Why this is considered acceptable is beyond me!

Fundamentally, this could be a decent hotel but it’s let down by things that, with a little care, would make things better.

I wouldn’t stop again

Lovely Hotel, we have 3 dogs and we have never been so impressed by the greeting for our dogs. The beds were confortable, the Staff were fantastic, couldent do enough for their guests and their dogs, the breakfast was very good, parking was very good. All in All a great one night stay,we will stay again.

I arrived on a motorcycle with the large carpark to choose from and found a little out of view corner to leave the bike over night and because the hotel appears isolated i wasn't bother about security too much. One enters the hotel through two automatic sliding doors which is a bonus when carrying bags and crash helmets. The first door opens in to a cosy vestibule with seating around a rather modern teardrop shaped lig burner that appears to drip from the ceiling, it would be a wonderful place to sit on cold evening. After signing in by friendly welcoming staff I found my room negotiating my way up the stairs and along the deep pile carpeted corridor to my room.

The property was clean, in a lovely location and the staff welcoming, If I had to comment it would be that there was no hand towels and only 1 drinking glass in the room and the rooms were not sound proof in any way. Saying that we did enjoy our stay, it provided a perfect base for us.

Terrible terrible nights stay.

2 night stay here near the Lake District with my pregnant wife as we drive back from Scotland offered us the following:
Bits on the floor at arrival, a very warm room I believe the radiators were on as they felt warm so turned to 0, an unforgiving and rock hard bed and the ability to hear everything the other guests were doing until 2 am including watching tv, talking, turning lights on and off and walking around and to top it off there was an obscenely bright light outside our window which made it so difficult to sleep, of course there was only one member of staff we found in the morning and he was busy with breakfast so we just left as we especially my pregnant wife were never going to attempt another dreadful night there. The staff we did encounter were very pleasant and helpful and we did have a great meal in the evening.
Awaiting to see if I get a response from the hotel before I contact hotels.com.

Great hotel, we had amazing time with our sausage dog , very friendly staff! Great food, good location, clean room and bathroom, fantastic breakfast, matteracce a bit hard and bed quite small, tv needs upgrade we are wearing glasses couldn’t see properly tv too small! Shaun and Brown hair receptionist working super hard and long hours they should get some bonus for great customer service! Good value for money! Highly recommended, definitely come back!

The room was cold, draughty and a summer duvet on the bed meant I needed more layers on than normal to sleep.
The shower heads were full of black mould and unusable. And when the neighbouring room shut the door to the room the wall lights flickered on and off repetitivly.

The food options were however very good, just a pity the restaurant mood music was battling with the kitchens rapnmusic which just made for an unpleasant dining experience.

All in all this has been a frustrating stay and has left a sour taste in my mouth and not what I expected from The Dunes hotel – a room in a poor state of repair , three times having to ask for shower gel , cleaning staff ignoring the \"Please clean my room \" sign on my door twice : meaning my room was only cleaned once in 3 days / 4 nights and not replacing tea / coffee supplies.

For £90+ a night I expect a basic level of maintenance , cleanliness and at least shower gel and tea and coffee – I did not receive this or a decent level of service from your housekeeping department.

Lovely room issue with window

Its a beautiful hotel and yhe staff were wonderful.

The only idsue wuth the room was the window. It was on the ceiling and if my partner wasent tall one of us would of had to stand on the chair to close it.

I would suggest a stick thing to help prople open and close it.

Sadly the rules do not allow the sharing of a direct experience, which is odd really as that's what you review.... nevertheless this hotel is very much lacking ~ trained competent polite respectful staff including management, any kind of atmosphere, and incredibly lacking in headspace in the 2nd floor rooms where half the ceiling slopes.

There is also no lift to the second floor so if you need one and choose to stay here despite the many similar experiences shared, make sure you ask at booking for an appropriate room. Seriously think twice before booking this hotel, it needs a lot of work to improve.

Unfortunately the breakfast were quite poor and the scrambled eggs grey and smelly. We also requested a room clean and had the sign out in the door but it want done. Good quiet location but I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

The Dunes is a beautiful hotel in a great location- easy access to beaches and gateway to The Lakes. It’s light, airy and spacious. The grounds are landscaped tropically with a lovely adventure playground for children. The hotel is pet friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us. We are at the restaurant, which accommodated us well as vegans. We loved our short but sweet stay there.

The location was great - quiet and out of the way but easily access to local attractions.

I did find the room a bit warm on arrival and had to immediately turn off the radiators and open the windows. Also, the bed was a bit too hard and uncomfortable for me but that’s personal taste.

The wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and I could have done with a hand rail to get in and out of the bath but that was my own fault for not requesting an accessible room.

The room did not have adequate lighting to do work, when I brought this to the attention of the staff as the light was not operational, they just took the bulb out and did not replace it, the clock was not working so one I pointed it out they just removed the clock and didn’t replace it, my room on first night of three could not be cleaned as I did not have a tag for the door handle - not enough door tags for the number of room

Very average stay

The hotel is situated in a peaceful and quiet area and the room was a good size and nicely furnished. However, there was quite a few things we noticed and made the stay overall just OK.
Firstly, on arrival and throughout the hotel there was an intense smell of cow manure from the surroundings, we understand that in the countryside this is normal however inside the hotel some air fresheners wouldn’t go a miss.The room was rough round the edges, it seemed dated even though it was one of the refurbished rooms and there was a lot of stains on the carpet. We were put in a ground floor room and the room was extremely hot at night but felt we was unable to open a window as it didn’t have a latch and opened very wide so was not safe. There wasn’t any air con system in the room but there was 2 fans provided that we found in the wardrobe, one of which didn’t work and the other was very loud disrupting our sleep.
We ate at the in-house restaurant which was also rather mediocre. The food came quickly but wasn’t great for the price we paid. The staff in the restaurant seemed untrained and unprofessional. A couple of things was that we ordered steaks and was not asked how we would like them cooked. Also, part of our drink order was forgotten about so had to ask multiple times despite being one of four occupied tables in the restaurant.
We were not asked how the stay was on check out, we did not have a very enjoyable experience and will not be returning to this hotel.

Couldnt fault the staff and friendliness, dissapointed in price of breakfast and in particular the continental which consisted of just cereal, yoghurt bits of fruit and juice and std bread for toast, no sign of cheese or meats which i thought was common. Very minimal shower and hair products in room, no glass in bathroom whether plastic or not, also didnt realise how isolated the hotel was and unable to walk into centre due to dual carriageways.

Overall staff very helpful and cheerful.

Although we asked for accessible room it was lacking certain facilities in the bathroom I.e. grab rails. The room was at the farest end of the corridor causing me to walk further than necessary.
I also suspect my electric wheelchair would barely have got through the fire doors. As I was away for a weekend I had not taken my chair but my scooter which certainly would not have got through the fire doors in the corridor.
The towel radiator needs more cleaning as it is next to the toilet and was covered in goodness knows what spatter.
We also needed to be informed on booking in that the rooms are cleaned on request, especially as the radiator was so yuk.
It was on the card given to us but as we were busy getting settled we never read it.
Generally the hotel is nicely presented and peaceful.

Loved the area and the decor of the hotel in the lobby and bar area was beautiful. The staff very friendly particularly Anya when we had our breakfast (which was an amazing breakfast!)

Only few Negatives (although wouldn’t stop us staying again) was the bathroom was slightly dated, I think a more neutral Lino rather than bright red would modernise it a bit. Could also do with some black out blinds on the window as the room was extremely bright as soon as the sun came up (meaning our toddler was up with the sun)

Other than that we had a perfect stay. Absolutely brilliant location for the zoo which was the purpose of our trip.

This led to an hour and half search for some food and the place we ended up with was disgusting. The receptionist wasn’t very helpful at all!! The room had quite a few minor faults too….

Average hotel wouldn't stay again

Stayed here for 1 night as we were taking my daughter on a Sloth encounter at South Lakes Zoo and it was close by. If i had realised it wasn't walking distance to shops/restaurants i wouldn't have booked it. The room was clean but basic, no soap or shower gel in bathroom. Decided to eat in restaurant as too tired to drive into town. Service was terrible, waited ages for what turned out to be very mediocre food at over inflated prices. My 9 yr old daughter was asking why it was taking so long, when i asked they said it was being plated up! 10 mins later still no food. The only saving grace was the breakfast, plenty of everything and the girls working were very helpful and polite.

We had a few issues. One room had an awaful lot of dog hair on the carpet on arrival. It was cleaned well next day on request though. Shower water was often cold...didnt warm up easily. Some things like bread and olive dips and olives at restaurant and drinks were considered overpriced. On the whole it is a very pleasant and quiet location with great potential. Room service/cleaning was only done on request.

Lovely property excellent breakfast and staff. Nice play area for kids the only negative is that the kitchens were closed for anything other than breakfast for the foreseeable future. As the property is away from everything, a bonus if they have a working kitchen, it means a drive to find somewhere which is a pain after travelling a long way to get there.

We arrived at the hotel which has ample free parking, we were greeted by the very friendly reception staff who checked us in with no issues. The room was very big and freshly decorated. The bathroom could do with updating but was sufficient and clean. The bed was 2 singles pushed together making it a super king size and very comfortable. We had our evening meal in the hotel which was very tasty and reasonably priced. We slept very well, the hotel was quiet and relaxing. The breakfast is buffet style which was fresh and tasty, only issue was the coffee was cold so we had tea. The hotel had an issue with the boiler which we were informed of which meant no hot water but they generously offered a discount on the room as compensation and told the boiler is being replaced next week. All staff are helpful and friendly and we enjoyed our stay. Will the ongoing improvements this will be a top rate hotel and looking forward to staying in the future.

We have stayed afew times and had no problems. This time they changed the room we booked and told us the day before . The room they give us was not what we paid for.the manager was very rude and walk off.wouldent recommend we should get a refund .

Slightly dissapointed in this hotel, for a executive room the curtains wern't wide enough to hide morning light, also the sockets didnt hold the plugs used the iron and my hairdryer and plugs just fell out.
Hangers were just dumped on the floor of the wardrobe, bubbles in the lino of the bathroom floor,
Plus the customer service welcome could be improved.

Weekend stay in Ulverston

On arrival, we were greeted by a welcoming receptionist (on Friday night) We were explained breakfast times and whether we wanted to book a table in the restaurant for that night. In our room, the TV had no power so we spoke to the receptionist (Saturday morning) who explained to us that she would organise somebody to have a look at it whilst we were out for the day, which we agreed was not a problem. However, when we got back from our day out, we soon discovered that the TV still did not have power and didn’t seem anyone had visited our room.
We spoke again to the receptionist (on Saturday evening) She apologised profusely and could not understand why we were told that somebody would have a look due to the fact there is no maintenance on site on a weekend.
It seemed like she had to take this decision into her own hands and come up with the solution to move us rooms.
All I can’t understand is why the morning receptionist did not explain this to us on our stay.
On the Saturday morning, we were due out of the hotel due to having pre booked arrangements.
Breakfast was meant to start at 8AM but didn’t effectively start until 8:20AM due to a staff member being late.
The “HOT” food including: Bacon, Sausages, Hash browns, Scrambled/Fried Eggs etc is only luke-warm even when it’s brought straight out of the kitchen.
Overall — nice stay, beautiful rooms and hotel but just there needs to be that level of honesty with guests which is unfortunately why I couldn’t rate this stay as exc

Lovely couple stay, great room, food & drinks!

Hotel looked nice enough from the outside but was even nicer when got inside.
Room was lovely & modern, bed was enormous & very comfortable.
Dinner was lovely & drinks were nice as well as reasonably priced.
Staff were friendly & attentive as they loved our dog!
Would definitely recommend!

A 3 star hotel very disappointing

A 3 star hotel very disappointing. Mattress was very old and uncomfortable. Hairs in the sink when got in the room first. Shower pressure very low. A lot of black mould in the bathroom. Room was very dusty on the bedside table was still a stains from a mug from a previous stay. Not recommended at all.
Food was not great waited for 2 hash browns 15 min people who ordered full English after us got their food first. Fire alarm went of nobody know whats happening the 2 people that were knocking on doors had no clue not preoccupied to evacuate the guests. They were knocking on doors to find if there is a fire or not. Felt quite unsafe.
