This hotel bears no resemblance to the images. The restaurant is closed and the bar poorly stocked I was recommended to go out. The only food offering was Mini Cheddars.
The room's TV did not work, and it was not clean. Part used complimentary shower gel was available however.
The door handle to the room came off in my hand.
Parking was complimentary but there were no signs to indicate this so I parted with £12 before finding out.
Yes, this hotel is cheap, but unless you are desperate, I would avoid.
Not clean, noisy in poor condition and no amenities. I will not be back

The room we had paid for was not available at check in. We had to split the family over two floors. The rooms were very poorly maintained with broken exposed plaster and cracked windows. There was a TV but no remote and only one towel for two people.

Unfortunately a terrible stay... There was no hot water at all during our trip and staff claimed it was about to be fixed when raised with them on the first day. The hot water was never fixed.

Additionally the room and bathroom did not appear to have been properly cleaned, and the building overall seemed to be in a state of disrepair.

Sad to see what could be a lovely old hotel run in this way.

No large towels in the room just 2 hand towels. The shower head was sitting in the bath as the bracket was broken. back to reception to notify them. Towels would be brought to our room, nothing can be done about the shower as no maintenance available at the weekend & unable to move us to another room - really? I was given £25 to spend in the bar.
The barman didn’t have a clue.
Sunday morning, no hot water. Back to reception to complain and ask for a move to a room with hot water. Still nothing available but an engineer was coming to look at the boiler. In the cold light of day, the state of the bathroom was revealed. Mould and limescale buildup on the tiles surrounding the bath, bath taps and hand basin - along with drips of paint and something unidentifiable in the hand basin together with grime around the inside of the bath where it didn’t look like it had been cleaned for a while. Sunday evening no-one on reception,no answer to pinging the bell so no move to a different room. Monday morning, still no hot water. My husband went to reception armed with a towel and toiletries & had to wait until 9am when the shift started to be offered a bathroom in the annex across the car park. We’ve been regular visitors to the Crown for many years but never again. It’s a fabulous building and an icon on the high street and deserves to be restored to it’s former glory with staff that know what they are doing and care about customer service.

We paid extra for a “superior room” the bed was rock hard, curtains in a large room were falling down and looked pinned up. No heating and again in a room so large with tall ceilings it didn’t heat up well and room and bathroom was so cold all stay.

Not the best experience

My room was clean and comfortable but terrifically hot. There was no air conditioning or even a fan when the temperature was 32°C

The room number was missing on the door so we spent ages looking for where we needed to be. The shower took forever to get warm the shower tap was broken and kept falling off. There was no plug hole and the inside of the hole was filthy. The toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall and the roll fell off every time you needed it. The bed was uncomfortable and every time you moved it was unnecessarily loud. People smoking right outside the door so all you could smell was smoke the entrance had a cracked window and down the hall way the far end window had been smashed.

Said free parking on Hotel.com but I got charged £6 plus took £20 hold fee which was not explained at all. Booked for two people only one sets of towels and no toilet paper.

Hotel with potential

The hotel overall was ok, parts look luxurious but some is very basic. Our room was on the main road which was very noisy and being warm we wanted the window open but it wasn’t possible due to the outside noise, although we appreciate the hotel can’t do anything about the road. The restaurant was also closed for refurbishment during our stay.
I would say the staff were amazing, very helpful, friendly and welcoming.
Hotels.com advertise free parking at the hotel, which changed a while back, so the staff waived the cost for us.
I would say the hotel is possibly going through a gradual refurbishment and has potential to be a very lovely hotel.

Our stay.

The room was fine. Money has obviously been spent on updating the hotel, maybe a bit more needs to be spent to improve things. For example, the bathroom had been upgraded, new bath, hand basin, shower; but the tiling and grouting had not been finished. Also the bath was very slippery so maybe provide a bath mat. Also, we were only provided with two bath towels, no hand towels or bath mat. As we only stayed one night, it wasn’t a problem but for longer stays, the additional towels would have been needed. That said, it’s always a pleasure to stay in such an historic building.

Comedy of errors, the room we were allocated had not been cleaned so were then given another room, when we tried to unlock the door with a key card it wouldn’t work, so back down to reception, the batteries needed changing. Eventually got the room sorted, so decided to make a drink and this being a deluxe room we thought maybe a biscuit ,at least expected a teaspoon, nevermind. Put the tv on and it was a waste of space kept loosing signal , so sadly I wouldn’t give this more than an average rating.

A sole cyclist, good check in. Secure parking for my bike. An upgrade on a room. Good facilities, lots of hot water. Clean fluffy towels, comfortable bed. Smart TV, tea coffee, bathroom soap etc. quiet night. Full breakfast, juice, coffee toast, croissant, jam butter and a fried English. Very good.
Would return, the building is old, a bit run down, but lots of character.

Would never stay again.

Lights and hair dryer didnt work. Reported to staff, wss told they would look into it and they never did. Bed was uncomfortable, the sofa bed was comfier. The shower tray was dirty, hair in the bath. If you have a young child and use a pram avoid as there is no lift to get upstairs.

Ok, here's what was a beautiful Georgian hotel with the front registered as a listed building. No one has done any maintenance work on the front. There are cracks in mortar and one cracked window. There is still what looks like bin liners holding the roof on. And that has been like that for years. Now under another management, they ate least have some beers on tap and lemons behind the bar. which they didn't have a few years ago. I actually went out and bought them some lemons one year.
The website says the rooms have been refurbished. Hmmm. I had a broken light switch. A toilet that I had to take apart to fix the flush system. Shower taps I could hardly turn one off or regulate the temperature. In one corridor, a door marked \"PRIVATE\" had been kicked in and was hanging off its hinges. Some one could at least have shut it and hidden the line store.
\"Each room is meticulously designed to provide a neat and inviting ambiance.\" My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a long and interesting menu but none of it available at lunchtime.
It's in a great position, right on the High Street but it is slowly falling to bits. It needs a ton of money spending on and I doubt anyone ever will spend that money. It's one thing tidying up the rooms a bit the reputation is becoming a bit of a joke.

You had to provide your own login details for the TV (Netflix, ITVX etc) if you wanted to watch. There was no Internet connectivity to access the TV or social media, email etc. A £20.00 damage depisit was taken & will not be returned until after 5-10 working days & im actually surprised if they will be able to distinguish if i or previous guests have caused any damage. The decorations & bed were brand new - in the 1970s. No hot water for a shower. Needi continue?

on check in they took £20 pre-authorisation off my credit card, everywhere else i stay no money is taken, await to see if it is refunded,
Car park authorisation is in place which was an issue for some in previous reviews.
Food in restaurant was good.
Room was tidy, shower was pretty useless.

We booked the hotel for attending a wedding nearby.
The hotel restaurant was an Indian, which would have been perfect for me, but unfortunately did not suit my wife. However, Stone is a really nice town, with plenty of alternative choices to dine.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and setting up for our un-booked breakfast was nice of them.
It was a perfect location for us, right in the centre of town, with ample (free) parking.

A unique hotel with historic features in the lovely canal town of Stone. Hotel central to activities and sights in town. Has a great Indian restaurant on ground floor and other good restaurants close by. No elevator but staff helpful with luggage. I would stay here again.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing

Unfortunately we booked a Deluxe Double Room with City View…
Deluxe?
Room was in a chalet place in car park, thin walls and no hot water… even after running tap for over 10 minutes… receptionist said it takes a long time for boiler to work…?
City View.. was a brick wall outside window.
Beware… make sure you check all details prior to booking before confirmation and payment.
Appeared to be no interest in resolving any of the issues?

It was a fairly rainy ,cold day and we put the heating on in the room to warm it up. We went out to my mothers 80th birthday (so not a late one and when we came back the heating was none existent we shivered under the bed linen and froze? we could not take a shower in the morning as it was so cold. A shame really as we had seen some bad reviews on cleanliness but htis was not our problem.

We stayed three weekdays here in a separate building from the old, charming looking place they picture. Basically it was terrible. The door to the room had a key pad with exposed batteries and wiring, although we had an actual key to open the door. The rooms did not have actual number plates on the doors, just hand-written numbers on stickers. The bed was hard, the traffic outside was noisy. The bathroom was a joke. No towel bars, no place to put your clothes or toiletries while taking a shower, not even a hook on the back of the door. Shower was so small that if you dropped anything you had trouble picking it up, plus there was nowhere within the shower to place your soap, shampoo, etc. took forever to get slightly warm water. The room was hot but they were able to provide a fan, though it was completely dust covered.
Out in the hall, under the stairs to the second floor, was a pile of scrap wood.
Ok, so then outside the building they had dug up a pipe and there were piles of lumber, bags of sand or something, the “ballroom” was filled with paint cans. As you enter the back of the main hotel building to go to the front desk there was a strong odor of some kind of solvent, who knows why? We were there for three weekdays and no one was doing any “refurbishing”. The two good qualities were that is was a convenient location to the heart of town, and the receptionist, Florence, was exceedingly gracious and personable.

Arrived check in fine but asked for £20 deposit on my credit card in case of damage was not happy with this
One guest who had checked in was complaining about substandard showers
View from bedroom was a brick wall with a alley which was not secured so not happy to leave the window open because I was on the ground floor
Could not get television working
The room was clean but I booked a executive deluxe room which by the photos was in the main hotel
But I was put in the annex in a delux room
The main hotel looks like it is being refurbished with a lot of building materials about

Had to move rooms as the carpet was filthy. The ‘refurbished’ room had such a noisy fan that we couldn’t use the bathroom light, had no TV channels, we had to log into our own players, locks were broken but worst of all the shower was hardly usable. So overpriced for a truly awful stay. Management just didn’t get it and offered a maintenance man to fix the problems. Surely it shouldn’t be like this in the first place. Absolutely flabbergasted at the management response. A terrible double room for £95. I wouldn’t use ever again

パーキング付きなのでこのホテルに決めましたが、地元の人に「なぜこのホテルに？」と言われました。それでも改装になり部屋自体は綺麗でしたが、接着剤の匂いが気になりました。また備え付けのオイルヒーターが全く効かず、小さなオイルヒーターがベッドの脇にひとつ。バスルームも寒くて…。夜パブで飲んで帰ると正面玄関の鍵がかけられ、危うく閉め出されるところでした。
