If you can look past the area that the 'George Hotel' is in then you have a beautiful old building with a very interesting history behind it. Yes the property could do with some investment and renovation, but the building inside was clean and the rooms were clean. The staff were all very friendly.
In its hayday this would have been a wonderful building

The hotel is in a serious state of disrepair. Wall paper is hanging off the walls and there was unsavoury characters in the lobby area. A terrible place to stay for the amount they charge. On a plus side the sheets were clean but the mattress felt like it was made 42 million years ago. The reception staff were very friendly and pointed us in the right direction for local pubs and restaurants. I could not fault the reception staff at all

The hotel was obviously really smart in its past but has clearly been neglected for a while and is in desperate need of care and attention
The owners have recently taken over and have a challenge to restore it to its former glory but it could be an amazing hotel again
The room itself was clean and tidy, light and airy and the bed linen smelled of fresh laundry detergent which was nice and a pleasant surprise as we weren’t sure what to expect once we got inside the hotel
A few negatives though.. getting into the hotel was a bit tricky as the doors were locked and there weren’t any signs to indicate how to get in (which was to press a doorbell on the doorframe which was difficult to notice)
It was difficult to have a shower as the water pressure in the shower head was very low
It would be nice to have bedside tables and a remote control for the tv, and possibly an upgrade on the mattress as it was a bit “worn out”

The bath taps fell of the bath the shower didn't come hot as the bath tap was constantly falling off there was no remote to switch TV on so had no TV to watch it was an unpleasant experience paid 46 pound would not have paiid that as it wasn't comfortable heating only came on a certain time wasn't worth 46 pound

This building outside was dated,but it had high celings and decor from an age of beauty,if brought back to its days of splendor could be amazing. We had room 106 anormous room with a great big 8ft for poster bed we were totally happy with dated decor. And found the two ladies we saw on going and leaving kind helpful..

The staff are lovely. The room is clean. The location is great. The hotel is quiet. If you just need a place to sleep for a night then this place ticks a box. However, the building is really tired and there are no facilities. It doesn’t get anymore basic than this.

This hotel was the worst hotel I’ve ever seen. On arrival there were homeless people hanging around the reception I’ve nothing against homeless people but the hotel needs to make a decision whether they are a hotel or a homeless shelter you cannot be both. On arrival in the room the room has not been cleaned there was smelly leftover takeaway cartons in the wardrobe, build ups of dirt and mould around the room. The lights beside the bed had been smashed and the live wires were left hanging and exposed basically touching them could have been fatal.The hotel had no bar or restaurant facilities and outside the hotel was particularly seedy. We encountered 2 receptionists one when we checked in who was very helpful when we showed her the state of the room changed us immediately the second room was not much better with bulbs missing in the bathroom again leaving live wires exposed. The receptionists we encountered on departure was nothing short of rude and lazy we explained about the room and the wires she said it was nothing to do with her. This hotel should be shut down immediately until the safety measures have been resolved Expedia shoukd remove this hotel from there listings immediately

Hotel is very convenient for pubs and restaurants and parking is available. Some convenience stores close by and an ALDI within walking distance.

It is an old style hotel which needs to be redecorated. Quite a few things not right in my room but only there overnight so didn't ask for them to be fixed. Room cleaners should have checked.

Possibly used for temporary residence by council for those in need.

This is not a hotel and expedia need to think about hosting this on their website! We initially chose this hotel because of the cheap prices, but would not pay someone or accept any money to stay here for even one night.

Checking in, they need photo ID of everyone staying. The car park has to be bolted and locked along with the front door to the hotel.

Walking up to the room on threadbare carpets and very narrow staircases, you are greeted with a strong smell of cigarette smoke and other ordours, as well as clear signs of damp and peeling wallpaper in the entrance hall. Right outside one of the rooms another piece of wallpaper is hanging off the wall.

In the room, the bed is unclean and the surrounding room hadn't been cleaned for days. The window and doors didnt shut properly in the bathroom. The sink had a crack the bath/shower hadn't been cleaned in some time.

Walking to the other room, past a padlocked fire escape, that had crack and missing panes of glass and a flight of stairs that were \"out of order\".

The second room, at least looked like it had somewhat been cleaned, but largely outdated in decor.

After travelling for most of the day, we made the decision to leave as didn't want to spend another minute in the hotel, let alone the 2 nights that we had paid for.

After taking evidence, we went down to check out and ask for a refund. Staff told us that we were wrong as the rooms had been cleaned, no apology given or suggestion made to try and resolve the situation.

Stayed here for one night while visiting my son.hotel is very out dated and could do with alot of updateing.room was clean and tidy on arrival.although there was a smell of weed on my first arrival, but by the time i arrived back in the evening it had gone. Uncomfortable and unable to sleep first night - Mattress Smells of wee and thin bedding just a sheet and the mattress springs noticeable. Mattress replaced the second night.
No TV remote control. No tea spoon and saucer. The only electric charging point fitted at the entrance to the room and far from the beds. . Wall papers pilling off.

Worst place I’ve ever stayed

Arrived at this hotel.. couldn’t get in the car park. Walked round to the front door and couldn’t get in.. rang the bell, someone finally answered the door and opened the car park which was very small. The hotel was very dated.. the carpets were ruined. All the facilities were out of order.. the bar, lounge and toilets. Got to the room and the bedsheets weren’t clean. There was damp on the ceiling with water dripping through leaving a puddle in our room. Only one plug socket which is an inconvenience. The hotel doesn’t feel safe. Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Avoid

I did not stay here as OYO, the company who runs the hotel, called me only 4 hours before check-in to say that they had overbooked and unfortunately there were no other hotels available!! This is appalling customer service!! Surely they knew before that the hotel was overbooked?! We were traveling from Manchester also for a concert that evening. It's not good enough! They told me that Expedia would arrange a refund but I haven't received anything yet! My booking reference was 72313565200457. Please help. I will never book with OYO again!

A triple room was booked. On arrival was shown where to park car and assured it fine to leave little space for another car to get out. Check in was fine was then escorted a our room … this was a double bed base with no wheels or legs on the headboard not secured to the bed . The room was filthy. I requested to be moved and was told this was not possible as it was what I had booked. After showing them my booking was still told no.. eventually I was moved to another double room . This was slightly better … well the bedding was clean but nothing else in the room was. Aftercoming back to our room we were knocked up a 1 am in the morning to move our car.. this could have been avoided

This place would have been impressive a hundred years ago - grand design and could be a stunning building.
But it’s not been maintained.
Dreadful front door with a tiny call bell - it’s not obvious how to actually get in.
Wallpaper hanging from the walls on the main staircase tells you everything.
Room was clean and the wifi worked but there was a macerator on the toilet which made a huge amount of noise. The photo shows the window in the bathroom - that’s indicative of the whole maintenance level of the place.
Worst thing though was that in the morning the lock on my door (room 112) was broken so I was locked in. If there’d been a fire I’d be dead. Had to call reception (by finding a number via hotels.com) to come and open the door from the other side.
If you need to stay near here, just stay in Stoke - it’s a very cheap taxi (cost me £6.50 in an Uber to get to Stoke on Trent station).

I came in at a weird time, which I could tell stressed out the staff, but after that everyone was helpful and pleasant. The hotel is not in a great area, but it's a good price and a the amenities were great. The staff were quite accommodating. I would stay there again.

This place is not fit to be offering accommodation

Booked 3 rooms for 1 night 2 weeks before trip. Hotel emailed 24hrs before we were due to arrive cancelling 1 room and offering no alternative solution. Upon arrival the 2 rooms allocated had not been cleaned since last occupied, used towels, bins unemptied. Condition of hotel was terrible, wallpaper peeling off walls, threadbare carpets not vaccumed, damaged doors, beds, showers. Manager came to front desk next morning with a cold but wearing no mask, was apologetic after hearing complaints but ultimately didn't help the situation. Still had to find alternative accommodation for 3rd person at short notice and still have to go through the process of seeking refund for cancelled room. Terrible service from start to finish, won't ever go back there. Avoid this place, should be closed down.

Booked a twin room and received a double. Had no toilet paper in the room and it wasn’t clean. Dust and dirt everywhere. Stains on the bedding and walls. One double plug socket in room and only one of those was working. Was not a comfortable stay in the slightest.

On my first time staying here i was disappointed with the room. I only stayed one night, so wasn't too fussed about complaining, even tho it was cold and drafty, and radiator didn't work. Bed was comfortable enough, but noisy. Ran a bath using just hot water tap and it was cold.

This second stay was for 2 nights and I'm again very disappointed. Only a shower cubicle in this one, but still water wasn't very warm and wasn't much more than a trickle. The lightbulb in the bathroom was more like a strobe light and would have cause a seizure if I'd left it on for more and a few seconds. Room was far too hot this time and the radiators wouldn't switch off, even after turning them down to zero. Bed was quiet, but i could feel every spring in the mattress, which left me with two nights of barely any sleep. There was a kettle and little milk pods, but no mug, spoon, sugar, tea or coffee. The safety catch on the window pulled straight out when I opened it, which i was greatful for due to the heat issue, but this allowed access to the ledge along the side of the building incase I'd had enough and decided to end it all by jumping into the road below...

There was a hairdryer on the wall that had failed safety checks in October 2020 that hadn't be rectified either (it's March 2022!).

I shall not be using this hotel again and certainly do not recommend it. The entire place needs a refit, from paint to carpets (which are theard bare on the stairs and quite slippery)!!

Seems to be a homeless shelter as well as a hotel. Hotel very dated and not the freshest of smelling. Reception staff friendly bedding clean. But a private party seemed to have been booked and was very loud. Add to that a rather loud motorbike coming and going from the staff carpark underneath us. Not much sleep was had. Add to that the trip hazard that were the stairs leading to the DELUXE room, their wording not mine

Okay where do you begin some of the staff that was working there were fine, other than that it’s a youth hostel with homeless people live in there outside smoking drugs ect rooms with very very dated dirty
And people playing music 1 o’clock in the morning fighting the corridors at 3 o’clock in the morning will not be staying here again in fact we still have one more night that we are not going back and then having the night porter shoulder barge in the room door trying to get in in the middle of the night not good

The staff were very good, kind and very friendly, always willing to help. The property however has suffered over the years for lack of attention by previous owners. The new owners are putting in the effort to improve the hotel and many rooms are in the process of refurbishment. The breakfasts are excellent and filling.

When we arrived we had a few issues that we were not happy with. We spoke to Diane the receptionist and she helped to resolve these issues.
Diane kept apologising but it wasn’t her fault. If it was not for Diane we would of left the property earlier than expected.
Diane bent over backwards to help us have a more pleasant stay! She is an asset to the George Hotel.

The first and last time in this hotel

This hotel is memorable for having the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in. The mattress must be at least 30 years old and goes nicely with the rest of the place, which is run down and generally badly maintained. The wi-fi in the room is non-existent.

The hotel was a step back in time or retro maybe not in a good way. Position good but rooms smelt of smoking. If they want to attract familys etc could do with an upgrade.
Wifi worked great so kids could post lots of pictures of ripped and stained carpet, cracked sink etc.

Wow. Such lovely architecture, in such a sorry state, very sad. Filthy. Pigeon faeces in my room, rodent droppings and fluff the size a generous hairball rolling like a tumbleweed across my bed head, I opted for sleeping longways at the end of the bed to avoid inhaling an indisposition or helping to mutate another plague. No hot water, no coffee spoon, no remote, no bar, no adequate bedding, no fair nothing, no worries, I'm back South.

I told the receptionist that we can't sleep in a room without window curtains and I said the must have been checked noticed the curtains was on top of the radiator. she said there is nothing she can do about that and the hotel is full. instead she offered to give us 1 twin room and a single room for 4 people. I said to her we can't accept those rooms and we cannot be separated. And I said can we have our money back but she we did not to them we paid expedia so they are one to give us back our refund. we did not sleep for the whole night as the light pole was right in front our bed.

Ok hotel, quite dated

The hotel itself was ok and I imagine in its heyday would have been stunning and classed as luxuary. The beds were clean and comfortable enough, the room could do with a good dusting (lights were quite bad and the top of the TV and wardrobe with fairly thick with dust. The room is really in need of some TLC with regards to decor and a coat of paint would be a huge difference.

We were only in it for one night as we were heading to Alton Towers the next day so no major issue.

It has its own private car park which is locked at night which is good and the rooms are really spacious with a huge en suite bathroom. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Absolutely gross

Please do not book this hotel even if you are desperate. The smell and the room condition was worse then sleeping in sewers.
There was fur growing in the room on the floor and the bathroom. The toilet had poo stains. I doubt very much the covers and towels are ever washed. My biggest mistake booking this hotel, would have left for another despite payoling if my arrival hadn't been soo late. Didn't sleep all night, Dare't touch anything!!!

Needs Refurb

This hotel desperately needs a refurb, very tatty. Our room was cold and worn ..the bathroom door wouldn't close and the bed very uncomfortable...and threadbare ripped carpet everywhere. ..wouldn't stay there again ..tattiest hotel we've ever stayed in.

Worst hotel that I have stayed

Stayed there 2 nights. Room was not cleaned by the domestic staff after the first night. Phoned the manager who just apologised but said could not do anything. Two towels were provided for the whole stay. Coffee cups were not cleaned and had permanent stain in them. Could just go on. Avoid like the plague.

Very tired hotel and in desperate need of a good clean. The carpets were filthy including the bathroom. There was even the remains of a curry left on the bedroom wall. The breakfast however was surprisingly nice. Fresh coffee in the morning would have been nice instead of the individual sachets often found in hotel bedrooms.

No breakfast 1st morning only had 1 draught beer then that ran out on Thursday greeted by drunks or druggies in all states of undress sitting on the main entrance steps we would have moved out but didn’t have the money to pay for anything else were

Old hotel and very disappointing

Dirty room
Broken shower
Broken wardrobe(door broken leaning on the side.)
Dusty carpet
No toilet paper
Loo dirty
Walls with moulds and web combs.
Dirty tea cup and dirty tray where tea facilities were on top.

Bed linen and towels were clean and bed was OK. Last minute booking and not much option. It was a late night bookings I didn't change hotel.
This hotel has parking and is well located,but need REFURBISHMENT URGENT.
I would not go back!

unsatisfactory considering the price.
I found out that the hotel is used by the local authoriities to temppararily families who have no where to live for one reason or another
Burslem, the town has become a ghost town and has no life in it- hotel the same
