Our stay at the Best Western Aberavon Beach was a deeply disappointing experience. What was meant to be a relaxing break was marred by verbal abuse, noise, and a complete lack of professional conduct.
The most serious incident involved a 17-year-old guest shouting vile verbal abuse (“suck my dick”) at us from his window. We reported this to reception immediately, but the guest’s loud music continued throughout the night, and we never received an outcome. Alarmingly, the staff disclosed that the guest was “there on his own”—a significant breach of guest privacy and GDPR.
Noise was a persistent issue; on both Friday and Saturday mornings, young children were permitted to run and shout in the corridors right outside our room without any management intervention.
While reception offered a bottle of wine as a \"gesture of goodwill,\" the experience was further soured at the bar. A male staff member was incredibly rude to my partner, making a sarcastic and unprovoked remark that she had “obviously drank wine through a straw” before. This, combined with our room keys failing and needing to be reprogrammed multiple times, made for a stressful stay.
A bottle of wine does not compensate for verbal harassment and staff insults. We are currently seeking a full refund for this failed experience.

Rain water leaking through the window, off the windowsill and onto the radiatior and floor below. Staff must have known about the issue as there was a towel already set up on the windowsil soaking up rain water. I requested to move room which they did promptly. Had to wait 5+ minutes at the bar as no one around, the person in front of me waited 10 minutes. They served the person behind me first. The food arrived and a chef came over after my food had been served and asked to take a photo of my plate as they were a trainee chef - very odd. I tried to have a shower at 6.30am and the water was stone cold. I informed reception and they said i had to leave the shower running for 10 minutes before hot water comes through. All in all, a very unrelaxing stay.

You could have more Gluten Free options on the menu.

The breakfast was decent (eggs rubbery however), but a great selection.
The room was clean, with two bathrooms (one disabled access and one without). There was people running up and down corridors at one point at night and slamming doors and knocking, on the upstairs floor. but the reception didn’t answer when I called down (unless they were sorting the culprits out as it did stop eventually)
Bar area looked nice. We didn’t sit in it however but looked decent.
The person on reception was really nice.
The outside of the hotel doesn’t look appealing I’ll be honest, but it’s fine once you walk in.
Car parking free once you validate your registration.

From the outside this hotel looks a little sad and inside there was some nice elements. The public area furniture for example. Dont be fooled there is NO pool although advertised and hasnt been for a long time. Service was friendly and the breakfast plentiful and we recommend booking ahead for £7pp on Hotels.com as its double at the hotel. Bed was comfortable and room basic but clean. Overall, ok price for an ok hotel.

The hotel looks pretty tired from outside but rooms and reception area had been updated to an excellent standard. Breakfast was great with plenty of choices.
Only slightly negative comment is that the breakfast was served in a large ball room which lacked atmosphere. A few flower arrangements separating the tables from the large dance floor would have made the difference.

The property was so disgusting that we chose not to stay there and refused the room. The property was extremely outdated and misrepresented in your ad. It looked and appeared to be a slum in a major American city decrepit and in disrepair. The lobby was like lipstick on a pig. I will be disputing the charge.

We stayed at the Best Western Aberavon Beach for 3 nights.
It was a very pleasant Hotel The staff very friendly and helpful . Aidan especially on reception.
We used it as a central base to be able to travel around the area eg Porthcawl The Mumbles Swansea etc which worked very well.
There is a leisure centre with swimming pool next door and two very good restaurants just passed that.
The Hotel itself was undergoing some refurbishment which did not impact on our stay.
The breakfast is very good with a very extensive menu and the waitresses only too happy to help.
We were welcomed with complimentary biscuits and refreshments in our room which was clean and comfortable .Even had a bath to my excitement.
If I had to add a negative but not the hotel fault Expedia who we booked through were still advertising on their itinerary that the Hotel had pool and spa facilities for guests. It had been shut for some years now apparently.
We were told by the hotel though that we could use the next door leisure centre free of charge. Slightly disappointing as we went armed with our cosi to make use of the bubbles, and were not willing to go next door for the pool.
Lovely big carpark all free another bonus.

We booked this as Best Western have always been a great brand, what a disaster! On arrival it looked like we’d turned up in an abandoned war zone, derelict building next door and the grounds were untended, grass not cut. Every flower bed full of weeds and the plant pots by the door just full of soil, no plants, while in the window they proudly advertise their food hygiene rating of 1!!! For a ‘3 star hotel’ the reception was impressive and as it should be but no staff and we had to wait nearly 10 minutes before somebody arrived. Hopes still high then we noticed the sign saying the pool and spa was shut for renovation, although no workmen on site. We then went to our room, which must have been OK in the 1970s when it was last decorated, to see a TV hanging at a jaunty 10 degree angle with the mounting brackets sticking out 2” on one side and 3 on the other. Luckily I had spanner’s in the boot so fixed this, heaven knows how many years it’s been like that.
Our sea view did look over the sea, but also the derelict and vandalised huge old pub next door and our entertainment consisted of watching gangs of feral teens throwing glass into the flat roof on the floor below us and tearing off roof panels from the pub. What an absolute mess of a hotel.

Room was very basic, shower leaked and trying to get the temperature right was a nightmare. Room was too hot and the small fan supplied didnt make any difference. Carpet was stained. The wifi was incredibly weak. There was no pre warning about a function happening so had to put up with incredibly loud music late at night. Was informed due to this function we would probably struggle to get in to the resturant after 5pm. The vending machines in the lobby toilets made us question the purpose of the place. The decor in some parts looked like something from the 70s. Breakfast was good except having to wait an extra 5 minutes for the eggs to be added to the buffet. The best thing about it was its proximity to the beach. Certainly dont think it was good value for money. Wouldnt recommend a stay longer than 1 night.

Stayed overnight to be close to the office. Reception is nice, clean, spacious. However there was a £10 extra charge for my pet which I only found out at check in. The room was very dated. It was extremely hot. As soon as I entered I turned the radiator to the lowest setting, opened the window as wide as possible and it was still far too warm hours later. There was an event on so the music was loud and worse from the open window. No ironing board or iron- had to request these. Brought my own water for my dog and because the room was so warm even it was roasting

Havnt been here for quite some time. Big revamp makes a big difference. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. One issue was the room was very warm. Even when the radiators were tyrned off. However they did provide a fan. Evening Food was good, breakfast was ok, with the exception of the poached egg, that was perfect.

As others have said the exterior of the hotel doesn’t look much, but it’s better inside. This hotel is far from high class, but is clean and tidy and my room had a comfortable bed and a perfectly good shower. We didn’t eat at the hotel but did have breakfast which was good. Overall good and value and I would stay there again if in the area.

The staff were friendly and the little welcome treats in the room were a nice touch. The facikities were basic and thr food hygine rating of 1 star was worrying so we ate out. Despite leaving the window open for the whole stay, the room remained exceptionally warm and stuffy- making it difficult to be comfortable. I dread to think what its like in the peak of summer! Despite numerohs signs saying no smoking at the main entrance, we were more often than not greeted my numerohs smokers entering/exiting through their smoke! Unfortunately I couldn't recommend it and wont be staying again.

Not great and not bad- I stayed here as it was the closest hotel available to Margam park which was hosting a local bike sportive this weekend.
The hotel isnt as run down or as depressing as the area it’s in but it’s close, I actually drove straight by hoping my sat nav was wrong. The inside and more so the room is really showing its age and given its location I’m not sure spending any money on it would be worthwhile.
The food whilst coming from a kitchen with a 1star cleanliness rating was actually quite nice and the staff quite attentive, I’m guessing the major brand “best western” is the only thing holding it all together.
As a place to sleep it’s functional and yes I would book again for next year but for a holiday here- no chance

This hotel clearly needs a full revamp, water damaged carpets everywhere, common areas that although were clean just look dirty and old. There was also small undisclosed renovations going on while we were there, luckily they were not intrusive but would have been nice to be prewarned.

The rooms are boiling, there is a hot pipe that runs through every room which can’t be turned off, the rooms have no AC and only a small window. It was very hot all night long. In peak summer it will be unbearable.

The staff are super-friendly and helpful. There is refurbishment going on in the hotel but it didn't affect our stay. However our room was presumably one which hasn't been done yet as the bathroom was disappointing with a cracked basin and ineffective shower. Had a very nice meal in the lounge area as the restaurant had been booked for a party.

Having stayed before and had excellent meals, was disappointed to find only very basic bar meals now srved. Breakfast was also very poor, staff unhelpful. Spa now closed, which was the main attraction of this hotel. Would not recommend this hotel t anyone now, has really gone downhill since our last visit

Not up to standard

Never stayed in such a poor building. Broken windows with filthy curtains blowing out on 3rd floor. Our room stank (damp or dirty carpets?). We wanted dog friendly and close to a beach. So we got that! Staff were friendly.

The building was very out dated. There was barely any water pressure in the showers. The whole premises had an old damp smell. Everything is very outdated. Our view was of a delapitated abandoned building through very dirty windows. The location was good, across the street from the beach. We would never stay there again. The staff was EXCELLENT!!

do not book!

The swimming pool wasn’t operational for quite a long time but they still claim in their website that they one. You get a voucher to use the leisure centre across bit only allowed 45 mins and there are sing lessons there whilst we just want to relax. It was really disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel. It was suppose to be a nice holiday for me & my husband but it was a real failure.
