This aparthotel exceeded our expectations. It was spotless, spacious, and offered a very safe and comfortable environment. The location was unbeatable—only a short walk to the Christmas Markets, which made our trip even more special. We would absolutely stay here again.

The place was great! Clean, new bathroom, elevator, one of a kind. The only little difficulty was dropping off the luggage with very limited space to park in front. Once parked at the garage on the street parallel, all was ok. When we arrived the place was very warm which was great since it’s winter and we reduced the heat and it was all good. The rooms are super spacious with very high ceilings and vintage furniture, talking to the owner, we heard there are only four family hotels left. I hope this place is able to stay in business!

We will miss Vienna and Rothensteiner apartments :

I was nervous about the other reviews . Bed comfortable and plenty of quilt options . Noise on last night from moving about in room above did disturb me unfortunately. That was our last night so we were lucky. I think if it had been like that all our trip I would have been annoyed. So maybe request no one above you if poss. I would not let that put you off though. The authentic character property a 10 minute walk from volkstheatre and museum quarter was perfect. We didn’t want for anything in our room. It would have been nice to see staff about the property more but then they were there if we needed them. Bathroom was gorgeous water consistently hot different times during the day. Supermarket and plenty of cafes and restaurants on surrounding streets. We will stay again.

Lovely apartment which worked well for 3 adults and 1 child. 2 separate rooms and 3 beds. Nice walk to museum quarter and easily walkable into main city but plenty of transport options. Different as not modern really feel like you are staying somewhere historic.

This hotel was a gem!!! The hotel owners live on site and were able to help us quickly when needed. The room was outstanding and quiet!!! No sounds from neighboring rooms or from outside, despite being in the center of a bustling city. Would highly recommend!!

The property was beautiful, authentic, and the area was very nice. The one thing I took issue with was check-in. I booked the reservation for myself and 4 friends and we were getting there at varied times. They got there first, gave my name (my nickname as my first name and not my full government name I used for booking) and were given the room without asking to show any identification whatsoever. I would think that giving the \"wrong name\" and not providing ID would be a red flag, and the fact that they were given the room is a huge security safety issue. It should only be given to the person whose name it is under with valid identification. Other than that we had a lovely stay, but I could see how this could turn into a huge issue.

Beautiful property, BUT one pretty major flaw...

Really beautiful property and conveniently located. Very clean and nice amenities including all the kitchen untensils, coffee machine etc...

However there was one (unfortunately pretty fundamental) problem in that the walls are paper thin. You hear everything in this building and I mean EVERYTHING... If you have the misfortune to be next to noisy neighbours like I was, expect to be kept awake til 3am, and not in any kind of fun way...

A real shame as it's lovely otherwise, but if something like that is a dealbreaker for you, best look elsewhere or invest in earplugs.

What a beautiful place, we felt like staying in a Sissi-Museum! The entire building breaths Austrian-Hungarian Empire history. The rooms were excellent, with high ceilings and very spacious. The only downside was that a visiting German shepherd dog was a bit frightening and barked at us on two occasions.

Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel. Very convenient location since we were arriving and leaving from the west train station and we were able to walk from the hotel to all of the museums and main attractions. It was a lot of walking though so some may want to look more into public transportation options depending on fitness level/where all you are interested in going. Vienna does seem well equipped with public transportation options. The staff there were very friendly and we loved the traditional feel of the hotel. The only real complaint I had was how thin the walls were. I was experiencing some jet lag on the second night there and could hear pretty much everything going on in the rooms around us which made it even harder to sleep. I am normally a heavy sleeper and did not notice anything on the other nights so it just depends on whether or not you are a light sleep and/or have noisy hotel neighbors. Just something to keep in mind! Also be prepared that since it is an older building, it is not as nice/clean as a newer or recently renovated place would be. For us that was a plus though because it added to the experience.

A bit different, highly recommended

Great, characterful hotel. Not your usual soulless hotel, this old-school apartment block is preserved in a traditional Viennese style. There are the usual creature comforts (Aircon, TV, coffee maker etc), but it's not fancy or fussy. I like the fact that you get a full apartment - rooms are more like a small flat. Limited reception hours not a problem - just enter your code number and your key appears. I like the location in the 7th District - it's not fancy, but there are loads of (non-touristy) amenities nearby, especially on Neubaugasse.

As we walked through the hotel entrance we felt an unique atmosphere. There was wonderful music all around us, magically.
The location is good and convenient. In the rooms there were everything we need, including kitchen staff. The cleanliness and staff are on very high level. Our entire stay was extremely enjoyable and unique. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, only the wi-fi was weak time to time, but it doesn't matter. Thanks to the owners and staff for helping us and making our stay in Vienna a memorable one.

The property was lovely, very spacious! And had everything we needed.
There are only two things that wasn’t to our satisfaction,
Firstly we had booked a property with three bedrooms, but on arrival there were only two and secondly, I think there wasn’t any soundproofing between the rooms of other guests! For the first three nights out of four we were woken by the people in the next room.

The hallways are full of art and plants. Our apartment was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. We had good control of the heat. The kitchen and bathroom were very well appointed. It’s in a “real” neighborhood—not in the middle of tourism—but a pleasant 10 minute walk to the center of everything. Plenty of neighborhood restaurants.

The building is quite old but I was on one of the newer floors, with floors 4 and 5 being additions to the original building. It has a very small lift that just fit me and my two suitcases. My room was very big - it was essentially an apartment with a kitchenette, walk in wardrobe, lounge and desk. There was a hairdryer, safe and ironing board with iron. The tv really only worked on 3 channels and the reception was bad. Location wasn't bad. About a 5 min walk to the supermarket and there's restaurants in the area. About a 20 min walk into town - around the Opera House. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean. No real toiletries so bring your own shampoo and conditioner.

Comfortable, luxurious, affordable!

Aparthotel Rothensteiner was a treat for our last night in Vienna! The hotel graciously let us check in early so we could spend our day exploring. Every amenity was thought of. The rooftop deck is beautiful! Aparthotel Rothensteiner is easily accessible by bus and tram, with U-bahn just a few minutes walk. It's walkable to the city center and main sights of Vienna.

We almost didn't get breakfast included because it was a little pricey. However I must say that it was expansive and delicious. A very traditional Viennese breakfast, carefully prepared, and MORE than enough choices to satisfy any palate. We hope to be back soon!

-Our room was non smoking and still smelled a lot like smoke. People were smoking in reception area and despite our room being on a non smoking floor a few flights above the reception, we were still able to smell the smoke in our floor and room.
-Walls are extremely thin, one night we were not able to sleep due to the tv in the room next to us being on. The sound from the TV could be heard clearly through the wall.
- After checkout and us returning our keys, we left our bags to pick up a couple hours later before our train. When we arrived back at the hotel there was a couple that had been waiting outside the hotel for over 15 minutes to check into the hotel. There was no response from the reception to buzz us into the building and no response to their listed phone number. We were stuck outside of the hotel and waited several minutes to be let back into the lobby, we almost missed our train.
-The hotel was prompt about sending emails with details on checking in after hours and we had no problem. However be warned that they have very limited reception hours.

A real taste of Vienna

Lovely old-style apartment hotel - just like staying in a well-to-do friend's flat - large rooms, antique furniture everywhere and great neighbourhood. Ten minutes walk west of the inner ring where there are connections to tram and underground services, and bus stops just a few metres away. Lots of bars, restaurants and shops in neighbourhood. Interesting and eclectic spread of buffet breakfast items, and really helpful staff. We had a two bedroom apartment which was actually a lounge with two single beds, a very large double bedroom with sofas and lovely furniture, and a small kitchenette and bathroom. Only downside of that arrangement was that the bathroom was accessed from the bedroom via the lounge, which is fine for family occupancy but might be more awkward for couples sharing. Apartment was well equipped with cooking stuff, kettle, wifi, etc, and toasty warm even in February. I'd definitely stay there again. Fantastic value too.

Old Charm, Fully Equiped, Spacious Property

A great vintage hotel. Fully equipped and resourceful staff (Akki). We went during Christmas and it had a very festive and cozy feel to it. The hotel is very well kept has a interesting story behind it. Our apartment was spacious and well placed. They dont have many actual photos floating on internet, but they should upload them as the property is worth staying even at a slightly higher cost. We were sad to leave as it had become our home for 5 days.

Viennese Apartment-Style Room with Kitchenette

Small apartment in a traditional Vienna building, with amble space and a small kitchen. The apartment-hotel has the sweeping stairs traditional in older Viennese multi-story residences, has a good elevator, and is nicely decorated. The reception was swift and informative. The location is within two-to-three blocks of street car and bus connections. It is near Neubaugasse, which has plenty of interesting stores, including those selling antiques and art. In all, I was pleased with the stay and it compares well with places I have stayed in Vienna during the past couple of decades.

Lots of character, clean and convenient hotel

I was able to save money with home-made breakfasts from a nearby grocery store most days. Plenty of restaurants within about 15 min. on foot. Not too old-fashioned, but not too modern. Large rooms with high ceilings. Roof top terrace was under construction. The two breakfasts I did eat in the hotel were offered complementary.

A pleasant stay

Our family stayed 4 nights and it was such a pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and services are great. Also they clean the rooms everyday. When I mentioned to the owner about my son's shorts got ripped by a hard object on the couch, he insisted to pay for the ripped shorts, even though I politely refused. To my surprise at checkout, the owner erased all charges for my two laundries and one breakfast. That's really the way to do business!

We had a two bed apartment in the most amazing old building. It was such a treat to stay here. We were arriving later than 6pm but were sent the directions how to enter the building with no problem. The apartment was huge and well equipped. We wished we could have stayed longer but will definitely recommend it to our friends.

If you are looking for Austria Experience staying in the apartment, this is the right hotel to stay. To me this is more like apartment, we have kitchen inside the room and the room itself is big. My only concern is the bathroom need a curtain for shower. I don't like my bathroom to be wet. Other than that, everything was perfect, the lady is very friendly, location itself is nice and perfect.

If you'd like to have the experience of staying in a traditional Viennese apartment, with high ceilings, old parquet floors, etc. then this is a great option. Very unique. The staff was truly amazing, they went out of their way to make you feel part of a temporary family.

The hotel is a charming building full of period art and furniture. Cozy and slightly cluttered but clean and tasteful. It feels comfortable and lived in, unlike the modern hotels with their spartan furnishings. Some thoughtful upgrading would put it in the five star category. Our standard room had a comfortable bed, a desk, some sitting furniture, a kitchenette, a bathroom and a guest controlled A.C. The kitchenette could use an upgrade and the bathroom needs a shower door. We enjoyed the communal roof deck every evening. Overall, quite comfortable and good value for money.

Great Stay in a Great City

Myself and my family stayed here for 4 nights in a very hot July. The hotel was a good distance from the city centre, around a mile, but we had a car so it wasn't too much of an issue. It is easy to find the centre by foot however so the location is good enough. The hotel had more of an apartment feel about it, hence the name, and it seemed some families stayed there full time, or at least for long periods of time. The rooms however were very clean and had all the amenities you could ask for. The staff were what tipped my rating from a 4 to a 5 however, as they were all very helpful and very willing to go out of their way to make you feel at home. Would definitely recommend to a friend and will definitely stay here if I travel to Vienna again.

Wonderful stay.

This is a family run hotel and they are wonderful, extremely helpful and the room lovely and in a good location. When we could not get a good wi-fi connection the owner explained what we needed to do. We came in after midnight and we could not call as our phones would not work. We stopped at McDonald's and the manager kindly called ahead and asked for directions so we were able to find the hotel and get buzzed in. Thanks ApartHotel Rothensteiner for a great stay.

A charming and old-fashioned Viennese Hotel!

This is a very charming hotel full with charater, which is a nice change from modern hotels. It is an apartment, which means you have the flexibility to cook some meals for yourselves, but we ate outside all the time. The location is a little way from the center, so it takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the closest tram/underground stations. There are buses on the street as well, but we don't think that they are running during the Easter Holiday. The hotel staff are very friendly, and fulfilled our requests.

Old fashioned and full of character. Lots of old photos and personal decorations / touches. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We had plenty of space for 3 adults in our 'apartment' with a good sized double bedroom and a living room with settee and chairs, a dining table and chairs, a desk and a good sized cupboard with a safe. There was a single bed in the living room. All the beds were comfortable. There was plenty of hot water for baths and a small kitchen area, which meant that we had a kettle and a fridge. We didn't use the hot plates, but shopped locally one evening for a picnic-type meal. Good internet connection in room. No problems with noise. We were on the 4th floor and our rooms looked out onto a central area, surrounded by other apartment blocks.
We liked the area, a 15 mins walk to the Museum Quarter and some restaurants/ cafes near at hand. Had breakfast one morning with a good choice. Enjoyed our stay, slightly out of centre, but only a short walk / bus to the metro. Would happily go back as we really enjoyed our visit to Vienna.

Everything about the hotel , the character of the hotel , the location , the staff was amazing , so helpful , our room was huge and comfortable, luxury , 3 days was not enough in vienna and the hotel . I would definately go back to this lovely hotel , great value .

Great hotel for overnight stay near airport.

This was an overnight stay before leaving from the Munich Airport. 10min to airport. The room was clean, comfortable. Bathroom small but very nicely upgraded. The staff was helpful. There are several restaurants very near the hotel. Neighborhood nice and felt safe walking to restaurant. Would stay again.

First time visit to Vienna

Not bad.. Close to all activities... located on a quiet street with ready access to everything.Only complaint was no hotel parking available so had to drive around till we found street parking and then scrambled to find a tobacco store to buy hourly parking permits.

Very quaint and close to the city center

This is a beautiful old hotel that makes you feel welcome the moment you come in. It is full of old Vienna charm many old photos on the walls give a glimpse of the past. A 15 minute walk from the Ring (city center) and there is also a bus just a minute away that can take you there. Very quaint roof terrace, nice breakfast with a good variety. We'll definitely come back.

A charming apartment in Vienna

This is a charming apartment hotel in Vienna. It offers an amazing family style breakfast. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that offers traditional Wien food. It may seem far from main attractions on the map but it's actually within 15 - 20 min walking to the center. We loved to stroll through the streets to see Vienna outside of the main tourist attractions. There is no shower curtain in the bathroom so it's a little challenging to take a shower. It's not a typical modern hotel and the bed and bedding are little dated. but we enjoyed our staying at immensely.

Excellent Location with Friendly Staff

The location was very closed to the parliament and cityhall, and the room was very spacious and quiet. Although it is old building by looking from outside, the inside of the building was very clean and well-decorated - plus very fast wireless internet!

The staff was very friendly when asking for the help, and definitely looking forward to choosing again if visiting Vienna next time.

Within walking distance of the ring

Wonderful little apartment just outside of the ring. We easily walked (downhill) to all of the sights and public transit, and then bussed back to the hotel. Hotel has been in the family for many generations and the pride shows in everything from the friendly welcome to the wonderful room. We would definitely stay there again.

Great value for money

The room was simple, but nice. Furniture/appliances were old, but the place was clean, and the staff was great. Breakfast selection was pretty good too. This is a great choice if you need to spend a night, and dont want to spend too much. Not luxurious, but good in all other respects. About 15 minutes walk from centre.

the two bedroom apartment was massive, and well equipped; this is a family hotel, not a chain, located in a old town house and the furnishing of the apartment reflects this; breakfast was good; we would not hesitate staying here again

Wonderful stay!

We arrived before check-in...Bahi checked to make sure our room was ready (it was), and it was immaculately clean and tidy. The small hotel is located in easy walking distance of the Museum Quarter U stop and tram ring (8 minute walk). Every staff member was friendly and helpful...from the front room staff to the assistant at the daily morning buffet (which had plenty of options for me as a vegetarian). I had misplaced my toothbrush and one of the gentlemen brought a replacement to my room straight away. Our room was on the 4th floor and faced the street. We were not bothered by the traffic or noise. The rooms also have wifi, a safe, and a tv. We loved Bahi, as every morning she helped us map out our transportation needs to explore the city (which is beyond easy!). It is much more affordable than staying in the inner quarter, and we didn't felt like we missed a thing. We will definitely stay here again, and our friends are booking a long weekend here for the spring.

Wonderful experience.

Centrally located between Westbanhoff RR station and City Center. Walked to all the sights. Rooms modern but hotel maintains that old world charm. Highly recommend it.

don't stay here

i thought i was in a fawlty towers sketch. it was a joke. 4 stars on expedia? who does these ratings? walked in had a shower and left, and the shower was rubbish. i have better tea towels than their bath towels. the place was dark and dingy. i have being using expedia for years and have been very happy with the service but feel very let down by this offering. poor information.

somewhat disappointing

Fair location,but this hotel lacks of air condition in the rooms, shower device cannot be hanged so makes shower experience very complicated. The hotel looks fine in the common areas and has a good breakfast except coffee which was dreadful (no espresso available).
Disappointing for the price.

not a choice hotel

It is in a questionable neighborhood, and not convenient to any of the highlights of Vienna. Rooms do not have air conditioning, and single rooms are on the top floor making them extra hot especially when Vienna was hitting 32 degrees! Rooms are impeccably clean however, but I would not stay at this hotel again.

When in Wien

Rothensteiner Hotel is a beautiful retro Building located not so far from the city center (it is close indeed if you like to walk). From the very first step in, I loved it. I love the atmosphere, the interiors, the hallway, the stoned stairs and the little elevator. It feels like a movie set. My room was just fine. Intimate, independent, fully functioning services, a warm (and sweet) welcome with all the information I needed and as a cherry on top of the cake.. a coffee machine plenty of capsules (you got me for life there!). The view from the windows, on the inner courtyard and the inviting rooftop terrace (unfortunately, the weather did not give the occasion to experience that too). Above all, a very nice staff. Renate, was just the kindest person and a very thoughtful host. Next time in Vienna I definitely know where I'll spend my time.
