Excellent hotel this, and close to train station/bus stops and a short walk to ferry port. Felt really fresh and new. The whole hotel was clean and the decor was superb. My room was a single but plenty of space for me and bed comfortable. Bathroom was very good as was shower. Staff were excellent throughout the stay and breakfast was very good. I will go back to Tallinn as its a wonderful city and i will definitely be staying in this hotel again

Small but clean room with everything you need for a short stay. The hotel is within easy walking distance to Old Town attractions, the Christmas markets and plenty of restaurants, which made exploring very convenient. There’s also a great kids’ playground just a few minutes away — very handy if you’re travelling with kids. Breakfast is on the smaller side but still offers enough variety to start the day well. Overall, a comfortable and well-located hotel.

This is a basic hotel, close to the beautiful towers, near the shouth entrance of old town and walkable to the park and lake. The breakfast was great, staff amazing. I didn’t like that coffee at the front desk is €2.50. Should be free for guests since there is not a coffee machine in the bedrooms. I would stay again only if I’m in a tight budget.

For our first time in Estonia, this was a good stay. Priced well and overall a good stay. The rooms are very small, bathroom is impossible for 2 people to be in at the same time. There are other options nearby we will choose for next time. We got what we paid for. Staff was reasonably polite but it’s also the culture, something you have to get used to.

This hotel has a great location for travelers who want to explore the old town. The area is very walkable and quiet.
My room was not big, but as a solo traveller it was sufficient. Please note, there is no air conditioning, so it may get warm in summer. it would have been helpful if there was a fan. My room had a small old fan that can generate regular and warm air, but it was not helpful for me to cool down.
One of the highlights was the breakfast which I enjoyed very much. It had pickled herring, cheese, eggs, olives, croissants, grilled veggies, meatballs and more. They had a nice espresso machine as well.

The room was big enough and clean. The breakfast, although buffet, you could have as much or little as you wanted.

If you want a fantastic hotel within easy walking distance of all the attractions (all within 10 minutes) and 2 minutes from the bus/tram stop then this is the hotel for you. Woukd highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Stayed in a Comfort Double room. The first room where the TV didn't work was on the mezzanine floor with a window facing the street. Unfortunately it was very easy to see from the outside, so the curtains had to be used permanently. As a result, the room was very dark. After one night we moved to another room that was more spacious and even had a balcony. It really depends on which room you have in the hotel, even in the most expensive category. Annoying: you can't shower without flooding the bathroom.

I really liked the location of the hotel it was ideally located for easy access to the old town. The hotel looks like it is built into the old city wall which is clearly visible in the breakfast room. Service on the front desk was good. Breakfast was adequate.

I found the room adequate but a little small. The single bed was uncomfortable and there was a lot of noise from outside the hotel like refuse vehicles and leaf blowers which started operating early in the morning. I would stay again but would upgrade to a better room. Pricing was fair.

Behind my bed huge piece of the wall was missing, but when I complained the girl at reception said it was designers idea.... The toilet has a urine smell even though it looked clean. +Surprisingly breakfast was lovely, a lot to choose from and for any taste. Loved it!!

Hotel is at the very northern tip of the old town. Easy to get around the old town on foot though watch out for the cobbles. Hotel ok but room was quite small and the furniture could have been laid out better for more room and comfort. 'Plastic' curtains did not close properly and there was a lot of street lighting outside. Room felt a little unkempt - a hoover round the edges and under the bed would have helped.
On our last evening the fire alarm was activiated but guests were not evacuated. The alarm sounded twice and both times the staff switched it off, which in all my training is a NO NO! On going downstairs to ask if we were evacuating, we were told to return to our rooms as the engineer and fire brigade were there. We were told it was activated by a guest have a shower. We loved the Rixwell Gertrude in Riga but this one was not up to that standard.

This hotel is pretty poor, rooms a horrible, don't stay in basement a Dungeon. Changed to level 4 much better but still bad . Breakfast area looks nice. The breakfast was ok ham , cheese . Bread , eggs, scrambled eggs, fish , bit of saled and cereals , no orange juice. The restaurant was good the waiter Roman was brilliant would give him 5stars. And it had a small bar. Location was great 5mins to the oldtown square .

Booked Economy double room, previously advised hotel of late check in. On arrival, after midnight room allocated was a twin room with 2 beds and virtually nothing else or any other space in the room. The reception had no other room available so we suffered the first night. Next morning we again requested a change of room and we were offered a larger room with a supplement of 10 euros per night extra. We accepted the change because it was totally impossible to continue in the original room (Room 105). The other negative feedback relates to the total inflexibility of the staff in the breakfast room and their dreadful attitude. The Reception staff were fine and helpful so clearly the problem with this hotel is lack and invisibility of management. Overall, very poor value and we won’t be staying here again.

Mixed feeling. We stayed here for four nights at the end of July. Temperature during our stay was 85 degree (F). No airconditioning, nor fan was provided. No bug/mosquitoes protection screen was installed at the window. For the first night, we stayed in the first floor. There is only one small window. It was so hot in the room during night. We could not sleep at all. It was like sleeping in the hell. They upgraded our room next day to the second floor with two windows. Air circulation was better. We opened the windows during night. Better. We will not stay here again. Hotel should install the bug screen to the window. At least, they should provide a fan to customers.

Hotel is in a great location. Rooms are small which is typical of Europe but the bathroom was extremely small. Would feel obligated to warn people about how small it is. Breakfast was average. Would be nice if they changed it up a little especially for guests that stay more than one day. Room is not air-conditioned but we didn’t need it for the time we stayed there.

Location, location!!!

The Rixwell Old Town Hotel was absolutely terrific. We walked there from the ferry dock, were able to keep our luggage safely locked in their storage area before check-in and loved that it was so affordable yet inside the old city walls. Their breakfast buffet was wonderful, our room, while small, was more than adequate and just a perfect location.

Hotel is at top end of old town, in a nice quiet area but walkable to all of old town. . I requested a room with a double bed but was given a twin, as i was travelling solo this was not a major problem. The room was nice and tidy but for me it was very hot.The breakfast was buffet style with plenty of things available to suit all. Free WiFi worked fine.

Pleasant Hotel in the Old Town

Had a nice stay in this hotel. Room was clean, but not air conditioned, though. Is about a 20 minute walk from the (Viking) ferry (from Helsinki). Was as pleasant as it was when I stayed there nine years earlier. Hotel staff was very helpful. Indeed, when I could not have breakfast due to my leaving so early, they made a lunch box for me to take on the ferry with me. I recommend this hotel for price, location, and service.

Nice hotel within the old town of Tallinn

The hotel was offered a great value for the booking price.
It is located within the old town's walls, so every major sight is within walking distance.
The staff was helpful all in all.
Breakfast was okay, although the assortment of cold cuts and cheeses could have been bigger.
When viewed as a whole, staying there was a nice experience.

Rooms are very small and the decor is tired, dated and musty. Towels and linen are old, thin and grey. Beds are uncomfortable and pillows are lumpy and thin. Curtains had moth holes and the net curtains were grey with age and dust. Windows didnt open (brackets broken) so it was very stuffy. Bathroom OK but no extraction fan so gets very steamy and takes ages to dry out. Only 3 hangars in wardrobe. Standard rooms are far from being classed as 'standard' - more like 2 star. After complaining we were reluctantly given a slightly better room but it was still very small (we had to turn sideways to walk around the bed and a few times we hit our heads on the walk bracketed Tv). Reception staff were unwelcoming. However it is in a great location - close to bars and restaurants in the old town - but far enough away to be quiet.

You Could Probably Do Better

Check-in was fairly easy. Given the room at the front, which was noisy both from the elevator next door but also from it backing up to a busy street. The room was very small and dated.
The bed was not comfortable, and it kept sliding around. Wifi worked well, but the television selection was not good. Maybe more geared toward Russians, but some of the channels also didn't work. Did not eat the breakfast, but ate lunch one day at the restaurant, and it was awful. Very overpriced, bad coffee, and one of the worst pizzas I can recall eating anywhere in the world (horribly greasy, not all mozzarella as indicated, burned).
The location wasn't that great. It is just inside the city wall, but you're at the far end of the old city. While that keeps it a bit more quiet, that also means you're pretty far from most of the attractions, restaurants and bars.
Staff were professional and pleasant through the stay, and most spoke English well.

Hotel located in the Old Tallinn on a quit small street at the end of the street. We liked our stay. I would advise management to talk with designers and think about better and more modern design for the breakfast room. Art works exhibited, artificial flowers and red curtains looks cheap. Lovely stay in Tallinn's old city

We enjoyed a quiet double room in a charming (if small) space, even sharing the room with a 16th century stone wall. The breakfast buffet that was included was full and delicious, allowing us to sample some Estonian tastes (like pickled herring, small pancakes, and meatballs) along with other breakfast favorites. The location was perfect for strolling around the old city of Tallinn.

Great last minute stay!

i booked a single room last minute, and got such a great room! The view outside was of the cathedral spire, and it's right in Old Town.. Perfect!
The only criticism I had of the room, was that it was very stuffy.. I had to open the window to sleep comfortably, and then was woken early by the st noise. But, all in all a great place to stay. I'd go back.

This was a family vacation and we needed a family room for two adults and a 18 year old. There were three of us. The bathroom was shared, across the hallway as was the shower. It was clean, functional and within our budget. The location was excellent. The hotel is an old seaman's hotel, and therefore the budget rooms reflect this. Stockholm hotels are expensive, so this was a budget choice and as of such, it was adequate. Bare minimum. Had the feel of a hostel but comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent as was the service.

Had a relatively pleasant stay here. The hotel is in a great location at the top of the old town, but we needed to change rooms due to road noise at the back of the building. The rooms were rather basic, but it is a budget hotel so you can't really expect too much and once we had changed rooms our stay was more more comfortable.

The staff on reception were always very pleasant and helpful when needed. The breakfast each morning was also well received with a good choice of hot and cold food, various cereals, fruit and drinks.

Overall we had an enjoyable stay and although the rooms and facilities would benefit from an overhaul, the location with it's pretty streets and numerous bars and restaurants nearby more than made up for any shortcomings. Worth a visit, but don't expect anything too fancy.
