We were very happy during our 5 days at Smart Hotel. The location is excellent. Staff was very helpful, although their English was not great. The credenza in our room worked well for my laptop. The stationary bike in the workout room gave me a good workout, although one foot stirrup was broken and the power meter read much lower than my actual power output. The room had a dedicated AC unit. I loved the memory foam style pillows.

Refrigerator did not have a freezer compartment for my icepacks. So took it to the reception to place it in their freezer. On the day of checkout found out that the icepacks were left in the refrigerator compartment and told me that they didn't have a freezer. No food, snacks or drinks were allowed to be taken to your room for a person with diabetes to snack on when their sugar gets low

Hola,me he hospedado en este hotel muchas en muchas oportunidades por años.
En esta oportunidad el seńor Juan y Ayelen me recibieron ese día,Mi reserva como lo hago siempre fue un cuarto Deluxe,donde se pueden hospedar 3 personas claramente está en la descripción,mi reservación decía 1 viajero ya que fui yo la única en volar de Miami USA,mis familiares me esperaban justo afuera del hotel ese día,lo cual sumábamos 3 personas.
Juan y Atelen súper agresivos y mal hablados,una clara actitud despreciante hacia mí,me cobraron extra por cada uno de ellos,siendo que ya había pagado esa habitación por 3,dejó claro que es la más costoso de todas,después de la de balcón,aprovechando la oportunidad quisieron sacar dinero extra conmigo,les expliqué y mostré mi reserva del cuarto Deluxe,pero no funcionó y debí pagar ese dinero extra,
Imagino que ellos se lo quedaron para su uso personal.
Me sentí muy incómoda al ver como me despojaban de mi dinero sin razón,
Me exigieron pagar esa diferencia,que si no abonada esa cantidad perdía mi reserva,
es una habitación costosa más de USD100 x noche,así que aboné y me alojé,
Definitivamente no me quedaré más en esa hotel.
Les comenté lo que sucedió a todas las personas que he recomendado para alojarse que ya no regresen ahí.
Como supervisoras de operaciones de hoteles en USA,yo les recomiendo aprender de la profesión de hoteleria,
hospitalidad,compromiso y lealtad,
Plus-Costumer service- ojalá lleguen a ser buenos empleados/no malos despedidos.

Bad location, quite rough. The room is nice, but too many windows, making it cold and extremely noisy. On Fridays and Saturdays, there are drums until 3am, and drunk people screaming until 6am, making it impossible to sleep. The people at the reception couldn't even be bothered to talk. A Chinese guest was watching extremely loud \"funny\" videos during breakfast, I asked a member of staff to speak to the guest, and they refused it. Were were going to leave our luggage there and pick it up later, but we didn't feel like they were people of trust.

Superb hotel with terrific customer service

Smart Hotel offers some of the best amenities and services that I have experienced in my travels. The king-sized bed was quite comfortable. Rooms have a small refrigerator and sink, and there is plenty of closet space (plus a strong box so you can lock up your passport, laptop, etc.) The hotel is centrally located in Montevideo’s historical downtown, with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance to enjoy). Most importantly, Smart Hotel has a very professional and efficient staff, from the managers to the lobby attendants to the restaurant and cleaning staff. I highly recommend this hotel. In fact, I’m headed back there in early April.

Location in run down area but close to Independence Plaza where bus services stop.
The room we had was on the 10th floor and suffered from the noise the lifts make at all hours. We were offered a room change but couldn't face packing and unpacking again.
Staff were helpful and friendly.
I asked for a bill and it was emailed to me. I couldn't view one of the files and the one I could read was simply a sum total and no breakdown therefore not much use.
The bed was comfortable but not so the pillows. One very soft the other hard...

We traveled from California to Montevideo, Uruguay. It was a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend this hotel. The food service was excellent with lots of tasty meal options. The staff was friendly and accommodated our needs. This location is close to mercado del puerto which has many restaurants and souvenir shops.

The location is excellent for visiting the Ciudad Vieja, and accessing public transportation.

Good option for city stay

Fairly modern city centre hotel. We opted for a superior room which was spacious with kitchenette and sitting area. Bathroom had walk in shower. Bed was comfy.

Breakfast buffet was decent but you have to book a time when they are busy as the dining area is small. Ate dinner there too but only average.

Staff for most part are young and helpful, although was irritated to find our room had not been cleaned when we returned after a busy day at 17.30. Someone was sent up pretty quickly but then we had to vacate our room for another 30 mins and there was no apology.

Was pleased to find a small but well equipped gym.

One thing to note is that the hotel is on a fairly busy road. We were allocated a room on the first floor and it was quite noisy so may be best to request a room on a high floor.

We have been here before! It’s a great location to be near Ciudad Vieja and the port. The staff is able to communicate in many languages. The front desk was cordial but not so friendly. The restaurant staff were incredible! We REALLY enjoyed and appreciated them!! The rooms are comfortable & spacious for the basic decor. Walking distance to many restaurants & shops. The street noise is present, but with windows closed, not overwhelming. Breakfast is very nice but basic. Definately we will stay again!!

Pros:

- Excellent location, within walking distance to famous attractions and old town
- My room is big, bright and offered a partial view of the Palacio Salvo through one window panel, which was a lovely touch

Cons:

- Room cleanliness fell short of expectations
- Bathroom water had an unpleasant odor
- Kettle was dirty and badly stained
- Customer service could be improved
- Staff is friendly but unfortunately, it seemed that any request won't be handled reliably.

Simply the best!

A few days before, we could upgrade our room for a corner loft, which was very spatious, top clean and very confortable!
Also, the restaurant in this hotel serves excellent meals and we ended up eating all our breakfasts and dinner at ‘Americano’ because prices were competitive and the food was excellent.
We also appreciate the location; very near ‘Plaza de Independencia’ and all the markets in the streets nearby when a cruise ship was in Montevideo.
Moreover, the staff was very profesionnal, courteous and very kind!

I highly recommand Smart hôtel!

Great value for money, rooms are excellent, spacious and with modern furniture. In my room there were a few minor wear and tear issues needing attention, like minor paint retouches and the safe was locked. But everything else good, towels thick and clean smelling, same for linen, great pillows, the bed was fantastic, nice coffee area, and the bathroom was clean and spacious. Areas outside the room like access corridor and elevators, excellent. The hotel has a small restaurant downstairs.

Views from the room were very nice, and the property had everything we needed. Powerful AC. The staff were very helpful and kind. We arrived early by Buquebus from Buenos Aires, and they stowed our luggage.

A day before we arrived we requested a slightly early check-in, but they were unable to accommodate us. It was the one thing they might have been able to do better.

The area was not what we expected. We worried about safety in the area as many shut store fronts and graffiti.
We had a double room with a terrace. The mattress and pillows were terrible. I slept with the rough towel as my pillow.Bathroom was generally ok. The kitchenette not really helpful. Centrally located for Plaza Independencia, Mercado and the rambla.
Their saving grace and our escape is the American Bar.
The reception staff were helpful though not all spoke English. Surely a minimum requirement for hotel reception staff?
We hated having to book a time for breakfast. When on vacation one wants to have breakfast when one is ready.

Nice hotel just off the main avenue, but in a bit of a off the beaten path. There are a few sketchy people around but it's very convenient to independence square, Palacio Salvo and old Montevideo. The restaurant recommendations made by the hotel were excellent. I've stayed here before and one thing worth mentioning is the wide swing in pricing, as cheap as $60 per night and sometimes over $100...

Nice, basic hotel. Staff were professional, but didn’t make extra effort to be friendly or helpful. Absolutely no issues, to be clear but a little “sparkle” goes a long way in hospitality. The area was quite noisy, even with window shut and latched, but that can be expected in urban areas. In house restaurant and bar was sufficent, but hours and menu were limited and it was confusing on seating/service/ordering expectations.

Great Hotel but situated near very loud Night Club

The hotel is very pleasantly situated in the downtown area of Montevideo. It is clean, modern and very comfortable. The staff all provided a high level of customer service, although language barriers were sometimes an issue.- but in fairness their English was much better than my Spanish. I would have been very satisfied with the hotel and everything about it. However the stay was ruined by the nearby club whcih oipens from 11.00pm to 5.30am. Throughout the night, the noise of the excessively loud and relentless music, plus the noise of the customers who were partying thoughout the night made sleep impossible.

The hotel is perfectly situated nearby to historic and cultural attractions, but far enough away from the port to avoid the mass of cruise ship passengers. The staff were all very kind and helpful with questions, taxis, etc. the view from the rooftop is also quite nice.

Quaint boutique hotel in good location.

Quaint and coveniently located boutique hotel within walking distance of the main public areas and the Palacio Salvo. Breakfast was good as was the stir fry at the restaurant. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

My only complaint is that my top floor room had a very nice patio area but the chairs were of poor and flimsy quality. The deck could also use a table.

I'm guessing this is a good hotel for Montevideo

The first room was supposed to be a king size bed, but was two twins pushed together... which sucks... they gave me a room with a balcony without a couch and a queen size bed... it was an upgrade, but I would have preferred a king bed with a couch to sit on.... breakfast on the property is reasonably priced for Montevideo and pretty decent... walls are thin, and the elevator makes noise that you can hear in your room... the rooms are clean and modern with English language channels... I've mixed feelings about my stay but location and price make it a decent stay and the staff was nice despite not being able to get me my desired room

Very friendly and helpful desk staff! We had a nice room with a view and loved the convenience of the small well- designed kitchen for snacks. Restaurant was good for included breakfast and also for a meal or a drink. Good location for exploring the old town but also convenient to shopping district. Shower floor emphasizes non-skid over whiteness so it appears grubby even when clean. Very comfortable bed and heat pump keeps room nice temperature. Extremely quiet and pleasant.

We had a beautiful corner room with lots of windows. The bed and bathroom were great and we had a small fridge as well as a desk. There were some restaurants around the area, but it was downtown and very quiet on the weekend with lots of places closed Sunday. Fortunately the hotel restaurant was open Sunday night.
